LR2 - Auto Import develop settings won't stick.

As the subject says, in LR2 changes made to the develop settings preference in the auto import settings dialogue do not stick. I can select a different develop preset, but after closing the settings dialogue, new images import with the original preset. If I open the settings window again, the develop settings preference has been reset to their original state.
I've tried two computers and have the same result on both. Trashing prefs does nothing, but creating a new catalog seems to reset the auto import prefs dialogue, but whatever develop settings I select becomes fixed and unchangeable.
I use LR's auto import feature to work tethered with my MF digital setup on every project - it is crucial to my current workflow. This bug is small, but significant and will probably have me going back to V1 until I can find a fix so any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Andy
(oh yeah, both systems are intel macs -- an iMac and a macbook pro -- and are up to date running osX 10.5.4)

Yes, I get the same thing with the sliders being greyed out. Funny thing is that the sliders *are* set exactly as in my preset and when I click 'yes update' to 2010 standards, the settings don't change but only the sliders become accessible. The thing is that I really don't want to be doing that with every import, even if you can do the whole batch at once. What I don't understand is that when I import with the preset turned off and apply it in Lightroom's Develop Module, it accepts it without a problem but that when I use the same preset on import, it won't work properly.
Now what the poster in the other thread said was:
"When I saved a new preset and selected to also save the process version,  a line in the preset was created:  ProcessVersion = "5.7".  When I cut  and paste that into all my other presets then the sliders were all  active when I used them."
I have no idea what he is talking about or how one would do that. When I create a preset I simply click the + sign and in the pop up window select what I want, give it a name and that's it.
Edit: Sorry, I apparently overlooked the Process Version box in the preset panel! Must have been a case of not seeing the forest for the trees. Problem solved. Thanks.

My Settings won't stick; I don't know how to create a signature
How can I correct these two difficulties please?

Sorry, not clear. I meant "My Settings" (top right hand corner of FCE Discussions window), not in FCE itself. The time zone setting is accepted but the next time I look it has reverted to USA GMT-8 hours, and some other settings are similarly affected
and by "signature" I meant some text that always appears at the bottom of Discussions messages, saying somethink like "Mac Pro 2.0 GHz, FCE 3.5" etc. I can't see a place to specify that.
(But now I see something has appeared!)
    Thanks.

  • Import development settings from another computer

    Hey,
At home I still have the trial version (I wait for 4.2 to see if it will be much faster before buying it) and today I do some photo development at work (we also have 4.1 version).
What I'd like to know is it it's possible to import the processings settings of each photos to my own catalog ????
Here is how I did my work:
At home my raws are on an external USB drive and I import my pictures from this disk: path is I:\Mes photos\<subject + date of the photoshoot>
My Lightroom catalog is in it's default path (user profile, my pictures).
At work, I put my photos on a temp director c:\MyRawPictures and import them into lightroom.
Now how can I export the development settings from the lightroom at work and import them in my home setup ?
I saw a menu "import from another catalog". can I use this one ? If yes, do I need to copy the "Lightroom catalog" folder ?
    Thanks.

From the computer which has the images developed you invoke the command "export as catalog". You can optionally include both the previews and the images themselves ( called 'negatves'). Write this to a destination from where the other receiving comp can get it, e.g. a portable external drive or shared network.
From the receiving comp you invoke "import from another catalog" and you choose this exported folder.
You can limit this to small parts of your catalog, so no need to export and import a total catalog.

  • Mail settings won't stick, how to fix?

The column settings in Mail suddenly won't stick. Probably a corrupt preference? What's the best way to deal with the problem?
    Thanks,
    iHope

Well, in theory, if we backup the whole shmeer, we can at least go back to where we are now...
Quit Mail. First I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
Try dragging this file to the desktop in case we need to put it back later...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
(May or may not require you to setup your account(s) again.)
Then In your home folder, try moving this +folder & file+ to the Desktop then reboot...
First, Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these +folder & file+ to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    These too...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/<[email protected]>/.mboxCache.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/.mboxCache.plist
    Reboot.

  • Importing development settings from JPG

    Hello everyone,
I have a JPG file that I've created in Lightroom from a RAW file.
My computer has crashed at some point, and I lost everything, but I managed to save the original RAW file.
Is it possible to recover the development settings from the JPG file, in order to re-edit the orignal RAW file (so I could make changes right from where I left off)?
Thanks for all of your help in advance,
    Dan

Right. I since amended that on Phil Harvey's recommendation, but to be frank, I don't understand it all perfectly, so bear with me.
    Dannyboy103 wrote:
To your question, if I have the same settings tools - the Temp starts with 0 and can move between -100 to +100.
This is what's known as "incremental temperature" adjustment, not raw (kelvin), i.e. standard baked rgb file (e.g. tiff, jpeg).
    Dannyboy103 wrote:
The other profile calibrations are the same.
I assume you mean sliders. What's on the camera calibration profile drop-down menu?
    Dannyboy103 wrote:
I noticed that when working on a dng file, there is a slight change in the calibration profiles (no "white or "highlights" and there is a "fill light" option. Maybe other changes, but haven't really taken a real close look at it).
fill light is for photos utilizing process version 2010 (or 2003), i.e. legacy process versions. whites & highlights are for PV2012 photos (current process version).
    Dannyboy103 wrote:
Why do you think that having the lens correction option available is a bad thing?
Using profile-based lens corrections is a bad thing if baked rgb file (e.g. tiff, jpeg) already has lens corrections applied, or is cropped... Such is the reason Adobe does not support profile-based lens corrections for rgb files, only raw files.
I'm guessing you weren't actually using profile-based lens corrections on your tiff, right? e.g.
As I said, it is possible to finesse metadata such that raw (profile-based) lens corrections can be applied to rgb files, but one needs to be careful, since it could make things worse instead of better (e.g. applying lens corrections when already applied, or applying them wrongly due to crop). I thought at first this is what was happening to you, but I think now I was wrong - what do you think?

  • [SOLVED] NVIDIA X Settings won't "stick"

I've got kind of a weird problem that I've been looking for a solution to but I haven't yet been able to find any.
I'm running Warcraft III through Wine on a widescreen monitor. Those that have played know it doesn't support widescreen resolutions (apparently for "balancing reasons") and to make it look the best I'd like to use aspect ratio scaling so that it just chops the left and right edges off of the screen so that it will display in 4:3.
I set that option in the NVIDIA utility, and it works until the X server is restarted. If I try to launch Warcraft III after restarting X, it will take up the whole screen and look stretched out and ugly.
Apparently, though, just starting the configuration utility is enough to reapply the settings. The screen flickers, and the utility comes up. Then if I boot Warcraft, everything works as I would expect. The flickering that occurs when the configuration program boots up also only happens once until X is restarted.
Is there something I'm missing? I'd like to think that NV was smart enough to apply the settings to X on boot, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Has anybody encountered this problem before and, if so, have there been any elegant soluions?

As you've noticed, nvidia-settings apply when you ask them to, which is when you run the program.  Where's it supposed to stick the settings "on boot?"  In your gnome session manager? KDE? .xinitrc?  Makes quite a bit more sense to leave it be and let us decide.
That said, they could be a bit more forthcoming about what to put in any of the above if you want the settings to take effect.
    nvidia-settings -l
That's an L for 'load settings from config file and don't start the gtk interface'
An interesting note is that, since this loads everything from the config file, you can't actually save overclocking settings this way.  This is because they won't save from the gtk interface, unlike everything else.
    Overclocking example:
    nvidia-settings -a GPUOverclockingState=1 -a GPU3DClockFreqs=495,1113
Stick an extra -l in there to do both.

  • WRT54G v2 Router settings won't stick.

I recently replaced my WRT54G v2 with a new router because it on occasion it wouldn't connect to my DSL modem. However I still want to do some things with the old router, but I can no longer get any settings to stick. Whenever I change a setting and hit apply, I get a blank page (instead of the usual "Settings are saved" message) and nothing I change stays. I've tried doing a hard reset to no avail. I've also tried upgrading the firmware but instead of it working I now get a "The connection was reset while the page was loading." message from Firefox every time it begins to upgrade.
Ans suggestions how to fix this?

try upgrading the firmware on the wrt54g v2 .. click this link for more info

  • ITunes 10.5.1 Custom mp3 settings won't stick

I've always used these custom mp3 import settings: 320 kbps, VBR Highest Quality. Since I upgraded to iTunes 10.5.1 my settings revert to the default 160 kbps no matter how many times I change them. I am converting these for radio broadcast and want the highest quality I can get. This has to be a bug.

Possibly the airport card in the G4 does not support WPA2. So you need to change security to a lessor common denominator. Try WPA.

You are right, for some reason you can not alter the preset Workspaces that came by default.
Create your own workspace starting from the default essentials. Right Click on each tab you want to remove and choose close.
Drag the content panel to the size you want and choose the size of the thumbnails. Then choose new Workspace from the drop down menu and rename the new work space. You could also choose for the other options about location and sort order which can be very useful.

  • Notifications settings won't stick?!?

After I moved my Home folder to a second hard drive ( mac G5 , tiger), my mac simply refuses to remember the mouse settings.
Also, I can't get the RMB to act as the CTRL modifier to get contextual pop up menus (set as "secondary button" in prefs)

You probably do not use CCleaner, but if you do, or if you use another "clean up" tool that runs at Windows launch or shutdown, make sure to create an exception for the Firefox Profiles folder.

  • Message font settings won't stick

    iChat 3.1 (v417)
Font selection (face and size) for messages is not sticking. Change font in preferences, the font will change for the current message for the active chat window only. Future messages are back to old font and size.
Open ichat.plist and change the font there. iChat still does not recognize this.
Changes to font and size for INCOMING messages are being set and retained properly.
I've used Cocktail to clear all the user font caches, restarted, etc.
Any other suggestions to clear this up?
    Thanks!

    Ralph,
    Thanks again for your reply.
They are supposed to editable with Property List
Editor but like you I have found this does not always
    work.
The reason I tried that was to see if there was some bug in iChat that meant that it wasn't writing your changes properly. The change was in the plist file, but iChat wasn't respecting it.
After I cleared all the font caches and restarted the Mac, iChat did respect the preference. I had previously tried just quitting and launching iChat, and logging out and back in to my account. Neither of those things was enough.
Even though I found a solution, I still consider there to be a bug in iChat or OS X.
It is unusual to get a post that says "Your answer
solved my problem but am still not happy."
This new rating system doesn't quite account for all possibilities, does it? I wanted to acknowledge that you'd helped!
    Thanks again,
    Steve

  • Energy saver settings won't stick

I've set my iBook to NOT dim the screen prior to going to sleep. I've also disabled the screen saver and have set the display to sleep after 1 hour. Still, the screen dims (not much, but noticeably) after just a couple of minuts of inactivity. It seems that the energy saver settings have no effect. Does anyone else see this behavior?
    Joe

Keep in mind that the "Energy Saver" lock is the same lock as all the other system Preferences locks. If one is unlocked they all are.
My Macbook never has gone to Sleep on it's own, ore rarely if at all. I have attributed it to a 56 dialup accelerator that I use as that program also causes it to take about 31 seconds to go to sleep any time you manually select Sleep from the menu. I just point this out because maybe you have some application that is causing a problem with Sleep.
