LR3 and Camera Raw 6.1

Camera Raw 6.1 is available for LR3 however it seems because I am still using CS4 it will not install on my system, is this correct? you need CS5 + LR3 to use Camera Raw 6.1?

So you think that the Adobe download site for CR6.1 advising it is available for LR3 but not stating, not if you have CS4, is above board?
There are many alternatives, especially if a Canon shooter.

  • LR3 and camera raw and adobe application manager

    Hi all,
I have LR3 and can't for the life of me find out in the documentation or on the website whether or not
    1. LR3 uses camera raw
    2. if it does, whether it gets installed automatically with LR3
    3. where it might get installed
    4. if necessary, how you have to install the upgrade (I get "adobe application manager required" error message, can't find that on the website either)
    HELP PLEASE!!
    Cheers, Bob

Although ACR (app) may not be necessary when using LR3, it is needed when you use services in Photoshop - such as "merge to panorama", or HDR. I'm constantly getting an error the latest ACR is not installed. WIth the release of ACR 6.2, I'm trying again and when I try to install it I get an error "Application Manager needed to update your product" then:
Adobe Application Manager is needed to resolve this problem, however it is missing or damaged. Download a new copy of Adobe Application Manager from Adobe.com, or install this product again.
The link (http://www.adobe.com/go/applicationmanager)  to the page is incorrect and returns a 404 error.
    Helpful.
I'm not albe to locate a link to download a copy of the Adobe Application Manager. Anyone know where that is?
So, I still can't install ACR because of this issue. Although this doesn't seem to be a LR issue specifically, accessing ACR from LR3 is significant to some of us.
    Suggestions welcome, and appreciated.

  • I have Lightroom 3.6 and Camera Raw 6.6 but I can't open my CR2 files from my Canon eos 6D

    Hi,
I have Lightroom 3.6 and Camera Raw 6.6 but I can't open my CR2 files from my Canon eos 6D
Lightroom doesn't show a thumbnail image and when trying to import it says the camera format isn't supported. But normaly Camera raw 6.6 should cover the Canon eos 6D
    All help is welcome,
    Thanks

No, the older versions are not free.  If you upgrade you will have to get Lr5 unless you can still find Lr4 for sale somewhere as it has been discontinued by Adobe.  You can also use the FREE DNG converter to convert the 6d files for use in Lr3.6.

  • LR4 and Camera RAW Cache folder

    Hi all,
I know many are complaining about LR4 responsiveness and how LR3 was faster in response.
Like many others, I have a new and very fast PC, however it seems that LR4 is crawling when it comes to navigtaing through images.
I've done my share bit of tweaking LR4 to get the best optimized results such as, Optimize catalogs, Render 1:1 previews, Increase Camera Raw cache size to 30GB, move the Camera Raw Cache folder next to the catalog folder as Adobe recommends and what not.
LR4 didn't become more responsive, however I did notice something strange, which is the topic of this post.
While filddeling around with LR4 performance issues on my PC, I've noticed that even though I have over 20,000 images in my PC and some folders are rendered with 1:1 previews, the Camera Raw Cache folder is empty.
This might explain why rendering 1:1 previews didn't affect LR4 while browsing images.
For example, right after I've created the 1:1 previews (whether it's straight from import or after the fact) I'm browsing back and forth during this browsing action, LR4 renders the 2 images each and every single time I view them - that beats the purpose of using the cache folder.
So one comes to think how could it be that with such a catalog size and 1:1 previews, the camera raw cache folder remains empty? And could this be the cause that makes LR4 render each and every single image time and time again regardless if I viewed the image a second ago?
    Thanks.
    Gil.

Firstly, to clarify, Previews and Camera RAW files are not the same thing. Previews are simple, just jpeg representations of the raw file, at various resolutions used principally in the Library module and filmstrip.
Camera RAW cache files are used by the Develop module and contain the output from some initial RAW processing. I don’t remember exactly what processing but about half that LR needs to do to render an image. This processing is done regardless of what you actually do in the Develop module so it is done once, then cached. This is why the “Loading” appears to take longer when you initially browse to an image in the Develop module. The rest of the RAW processing (about half) is done every single time you browse away from the image and back again. This is why you always get CPU spikes when browsing through images in the Develop module. So you can create as many 1:1 previews as you like, this will have no impact whatsoever on image rendering performance in the Develop module.
So to answer your question specifically,
Can you be more specific about when exactly does this folder being populated?
A camera raw cache file is generated when you browse to an image whilst in the Develop module. Files continue to be generated until the cache size limit is reached, then as new files are generated, the oldest are deleted.

  • What is the optimum core configuration for a new Mac Pro to process and manipulate very large (80 megapixel) images using PhotoShop and Camera Raw?

    Hello:
I will be using creative techniques to process and manipulate a large number (hundreds) of very large (80 megapixel) images captured using a medium format digital back (Phase One IQ180).
Final output will be digital fine art imagery printed using an Epson 11880 at large sizes (up to 60 inches x ?), retaining the highest possible quality and resolution. I will be using Adobe CC PhotoShop and Camera RAW as well as Capture One software. PhotoShop filters will be used extensively.
The Mac Pro needs to be optimized for the above purpose and be useful for at least five years. I plan to max out all the other options (RAM, graphics cards, storage). Performance is more important than cost.
The few discussions I have found that mention optimum core configurations seem to lean toward 6 or 8 (but likely are not taking into consideration my need for manipulating a large number of very large files), so I am looking to this foum for opinions.
    Thank you,
    Kent

  • "Edit In" Photoshop CC not working for RAW or DNG files after applying LR 5.3 and Camera Raw 8.3

I just applied the Lightroom 5.3 and Camera Raw 8.3 updates and now am no longer able to open RAW or DNG files into Photoshop CC. When I select a file and choose "Edit In" Photoshop, photoshop will launch, then nothing will happen. After 2 to 5 minutes, an error will popup in Lightroom saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CC could not be launched." An error I've never seen before. When I click "Ok", Lightroom will show that it's "preparing a file for editing" in the upper left, it will create and save a psd to disk and in the catalog (another new behavior), then it will open in photoshop. All other file types (jpgs, tiff, psd) seem to work/open fine between applications. No difference if I open photoshop prior to selecting "Edit In". Selecting "Edit In" other applications, like Viveza, work fine.
I tried first deleting preference files in both applications. No luck. Ditto for plugins. Notta. Eventually I completely uninstalled and fresh installed Photoshop, Lightroom, and Bridge from the cloud. Same deal...can't open raw/dng files into Photoshop.
I'm at a complete loss, dead in the water, with a mountain of editing work piling on top of me. Kicking myself for applying the upgrades, which I had been delaying for some time to avoid just such a cluster%#$. Ugh.
    I'm on a PC running Windows 7 64bit.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In the normal situation, LR needs to see a PS installed for it to detect the Edit In PS option is possible, so if you uninstall both, then install PS, first, then LR.  Of course with this release there may be some hiccup that requires installing either one or the other, again, but if you've uninstalled both and are reinstalling both, then install PS, first.

I re-downloaded my Photoshop recently and Adobe Bridge no longer displays my Nikon NEF files and Camera Raw will not open them.  I get a message saying that Camera Raw does not support my camera type but it always has in the past.  The bridge no longer shows the picture view of my NEF files.  These are Nikon NEF files from the Nikon 5100 DSLR camera.  How do I fix this?

When you re-installed Photoshop, you also re-installed the version of Camera Raw which shipped with Photoshop - in other words you reverted to an older version of Camera Raw which does not support the D5100.

The D5100 was first supported in Camera Raw version 6.4.

  • Bridge and Camera RAW preferences not working

    I'm setting up a new Macbook Pro, late 2013 15", 10.9.2
CS6 Production Premium, Also have Indesign CS6, LR5, Acrobat Pro 11. Camera RAW is version 8.4. Everything is up to date.
Bridge and Camera RAW preferences are not working correctly. Bridge prefs related to Bridge display, e.g. color theme, text beneath thumbnails, favorite locations, etc.. all work fine. Bridge prefs open and close fine with no errors. "Double Click Edits Camera RAW Settings in Bridge" does not take. Photoshop launches to open Camera RAW regardless of whether this is checked or not. Camera RAW preferences will not open. Selecting "Camera RAW Preferences" from Bridge does nothing. Camera RAW seems to work fine hosted by Photoshop.
I tried a new user with the same results.
What's up with this? Anyone else seeing this? Solution?

  • HELP!!??? Trouble with PS CS-6 displaying/ producing grainy and pixelated images after being imported using PS Bridge and Camera-Raw 8.5

Help!??? I am having trouble with PS CS-6 displaying/ producing/ saving grainy pictures when import NEF files!!!
    Hi all,
When I import all NEF or RAW files into CS6 from Bridge and Camera Raw from the Nikon D200 and D5000, they become grainy/ pixelated.  However, RAW files from the D800 did not have problem. I set the Color Space in my Nikons to AdobeRGB, in PS Camera Raw 8.5 to AdobeRGB, in PS CS-6 ColorSpace to AdobeRGB, and Save As Jpeg with Max quality (12). When comparing between CS-6 produced file and the original, I can see a big drop in quality and the picture become grainy and pixelated. What can I do to make this right? Any help/ suggestion is appreciated.
    Thank you!
    HN

Can you show us a screen-shot of the raw in Camera Raw that shows this noise, or if you only see it in the saved JPG, then show us a side-by-side of the raw in Camera Raw and the JPG?  Show the same area of the photo and zoom to 100%.
It is normal for raw photos to have grain but you can mostly remove it with the Luminance Noise-Reduction sliders in the Detail tab of Camera Raw.
The amount of grain depends on the ISO sensitivity setting on the camera.

  • Using LR2 w/ Photoshop CS2 and Camera Raw 3.7

    I am using Photoshop CS2 and Camera Raw 3.7 on a Mac G4, OS X 10.4.11.
I am about to install my upgrade to Lightroom 2. Is this a bad idea?
I have read about some compatibility issues re Camera Raw, and I have also read about how to solve the issue of exporting the keywords.
Will this keyword issue fix work on my system?
What are the real-world practical implications of still having Camera Raw 3.7? I usually adjust images in Lightroom, then any further adjustment is done in Photoshop (not CR). So is the only downside going to be that if I revisit the image in Camera Raw, the adjustments will not show up? Or will it also not show up in Bridge?? And if it is only in CR, is it that the image does not have the adjustments; or does it show the adjusted image, but has just all the sliders zeroed out?
I am hot to install LR2, but I want to make sure that I am not going to open a can of worms. And yes, I could buy PS CS4 (which would get me CR 4.5), and I would like to, but I don't have a G5. And I cannot afford to buy a new desktop computer right now.
Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks.
    Dean Abramson

    >so is the LR version of RAW as good as the one in CS3?
It's far better as it has local adjustments and such. Lightroom is more equivalent to the ACR in CS4. To make changes you make to images in ACR outside Lightroom show up in Lightroom, you need to sync the metadata. ACR does not write the changes to RAW images to the Lightroom database, but it writes it into xmp sidecars either right next to the RAW file or embedded into it. So Lightroom has no idea you did anything until you specifically ask it to check for updated metadata.
Note that trying to work with both bridge/ACR and Lightroom on the same set of data will inevitably make you lose data or edits at some point as you're dealing with a synchronization issue, so be careful.

  • File appearence not the same in PS CS4, LR2 and Camera RAW

I've just noticed that files as displayed in Lightroom 2 or in Camera RAW, when opened in Photoshop CS4 have a different appearence. In Photoshop the file appears much flatter and with considerably less saturation and dynamic range. When you compare the files beside each other in RAW and in Lightroom, they look the same. I have tried exporting the files to Photoshop from Lightroom using the "open with Lightroom Edits" and Edit a Copy and Edit the original, but the results are the same. After editing a photo in Photoshop and saving it back into Lightroom, the photo appears very saturated in the Lightroom or in Camera RAW. I don't know how long this has been this way, but now that I hace noticed it, it is driving me nuts.
    Thanks for your help
    Steve

Christopher thank you so much for responding and you have pinpointed the problem. The problem was the color settings. Color settings were set to sRGB and when I changed it to ProPhoto RGB Photoshop rendered file as it appears in the files in Lightroom and Camera RAW. I shoot in ProPhotoRGB and that seems to be why the images looked so flat when imported using sRGB.
Thanks for taking the time to help

  • Lightroom 2.3 and Camera Raw 5.3 Available - Note from Adobe

Lightroom 2.3 and Camera Raw 5.3 are now available as release candidates on Adobe Labs.
    Lightroom 2.3, http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Lightroom_2.3
    Camera Raw 5.3, http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Camera_Raw_5.3
    Regards,
    Tom Hogarty
    Adobe Systems

    Hi All:
based on the good work of Dorin above (post #19), he did a timeline of various releases of Lightroom from Adobe and it shows that from "version x RC" to "final release version" was around 1 month.
as it is already exactly one month now, it must not be too much longer till they will release the LR2.3 Final Version.
As for what Robert said in post #23, well, there's never any "guarantee" on a problem-free piece of software, or, for that matter, anything one purchases or anything in life, actually!! Yet, one can make educated extrapolations, right? From the range of comments thus far on LR2.3RC, it appears that it is the best version yet of LR2.x. This leads to the conclusion that it is probably a "good bet" that this version will likely lead to the least amount of issues, right? Maybe not "zero issues", but most likely, the least amount of issues from the various LR2.x versions available.
So by waiting, say, merely 1-3 more weeks approximately, i can go directly from LR1.4 (which i've been using for many months) to LR2.3 Final Release Version. It seems like it is a prudent and conservative move or plan.
What do the good folks here think, please?
thanks in advance for helping me to mull this over. If i were a PC expert, i'd be thinking about this less. as i'm just a somewhat competent user, and not a whiz, i thought that a bit of care and planning it out intelligently can possibly reduce frustrations later.
