LR3 Lens corrections not transferred to external editor

When I use the new Lens Correction panel in LR3, then transfer the image to PS (CS4) for further editing using the Edit In command, the Lens Corrections are not transferred, although everything else is.
Details:
The original image is a .dng file.
It is transferred to PS as a 16bit TIFF.
If I EXPORT the image as a 16bit TIFF file, the file image DOES contain the Lens Corrections - it is only when I use the 'Edit In Adobe CS4' command that the problem occurs.
I currently have v5.7 of Camera Raw installed in PS, which doesn't support the Lens Corrections - I don't use it, and so haven't bothered to download the latest version, but surely LR is doing all the processing itself, and won't be using the PS version of Camera Raw?
Any thoughts from anyone?
Cheers
Steve

I understand where you're coming from Steve, but it's always been the same.  They don't make the ACR plug-in backwards compatible for older PS  versions, as the continued development is one of the things upgraders are paying for.  If they spend resources on backwards compatibility, it's not really fair on those who are paying for the upgrades, and could limit the improvements in the new releases.
LR3 works great on its own, and will render a file itself with all of the settings applied, but that does mean you have a file on your hard drive.  If you want direct PS integration, it's the PS license fee that pays for that.  That said, they did update and bring out 5.7, which they wouldn't usually have done, so if you're not using the lens corrections, opening directly into CS4 will be an almost perfect match, apart from some minor minor tweaks.

  • Lightroom 4 does not work with external editor

    Hi All,
I am using Lightroom 4 and Photoshop elements 9 on Mac OSX. I upgraded from LR3 to LR4 a few weeks ago and since I updated I can not anymore use Photoshop Elements 9 as external editor. I did all setups, still does not work.
Anyone has an idea what could be the issue or did anyone experience the same issue?
    Thanks,
    Csaba

  • Photoshop not working as external editor

    Hi,
A couple of weeks ago a weird problem has started ocurring. Photoshop stopped working as an external editor. When I click Edit in Photoshop, Photoshop opens and it seems like it's trying to open the image but then nothing happens. It only works when I export the image as a PSD and open it then.
I think I have managed to narrow it down a little because when I click the .dng file in Finder, Photoshop tries to open the file and comes back with an error message saying "Der Vorgang konnte nicht ausgeführt werden, weil das Dateiformatmodul die Datei nicht interpretieren kann" which roughly translates to that the file can't be interpreted. I think there may be something wrong with how Lightroom converts DNG files because I can open older files fine. Funnily enough I can even open some (really just a small percentage) of the current .dngs when I can't open others.
I tried reinstalling both Lightroom and Photoshop to no avail. It happens with both Photoshop CS6 and CC.
Anybody else had that problem before or knows how to fix it?
    Many thanks,
    Manu

EDIT: Have to correct myself - now I'm back to the stathe where PS starts up and won't import the DNG. When I use the "open in other application" command and let Lightroom create a TIFF first I can open the TIFF file in PS without any problem.
    Hi,
I have ecountered the same problem a while ago. When selecting a shot to be opened in Photoshop (I run cc and LR 5.3 on a Mac), the program starts up and sometimes (not always) shows some loading activity, then keeps blank. Photoshop has no problems to open the same file when exported to the harddisk as TIFF. The problem stopped after I repaired access rights on my computer. Now PS does open the files, but (just occured today) my DNGs are opened without any adjustment I've done in Lightroom.

  • Iphoto file does not open in external editor

I have selected Photoshop Elements as my external editor in iPhoto.  When I select a picture file and click 'edit',  Photoshop Elements working space opens but the picture does not appear.  (Same with Silkypix, the Lumix Raw editor).   This is a new bad habit that came with Mavericks.
I can fit both working spaces on the screen and drag the photo into Photoshop Elements, but I should not have to do that.

Which version of Photoshop Elements and iPhoto do you have?  The newest version, Adobe Photoshop Elements 12?
Other than the previous versions of Elements, Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 installs the editor directly at the top-level of the Applications folder, so there are no longer any nested folders to select the editor application from.
But there is a weird glitch, when I try to use it as an external editor in iPhoto.
When I select a photo in iPhoto 9.5.1 and ctrl-click it and use the command "Edit in External Editor" from that panel, Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 opens with an empty window, like you reported.
This does not work: Elements launches on an empty window:
But when I use the "Edit" button in the footer of the iPhoto window and double click it, Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 will open with the photo in the Editor window.
    This does work:
So, for the time being, use the Edit button to launch your external editor, if you are also using iPhoto 9.5.1 with Mavericks 10.9.4.

  • PSE does not show iTunes external editor

I have PSE installed (ver. 9.0.3) but it does not show in the drop down box in itunes for external editor.  Am I missing something?

Did you download the iLife 903 updater? If so, run the installer. It facilitates the communication between apps like iPhoto and iTunes.

  • Lens Correction not happening in RAW with PSE 10

My Camera is in the list a FinePix HS10, I have done all the updates that are available.
I tried doing searches but nothing came up that I could find a solution to this.
When I shoot a raw+jpg of an item with straight lines (edges of a painting) the JPG version has the lens distortion corrected, however the raw does not and shows curves where there should be straight lines.  When I go to Camera Calibration screen it shows Process 2010 (current) and Camera profile shows Adobe Standard.  There are no additional Camera Profiles listed.
I am at a loss as to what to do to resolve this and have the RAW compensate for the lens distortion and end up like the JPG file.  Is my camera supposed to show up in Camera Profiles?  This would be horrible if not being able to be corrected so I must be doing something wrong or missed a step.

Elements using the Camera Raw plug-in doesn’t allow for lens-corrections.  Since you’ve posted your question in the Elements forum, is that what you’re using?  The much more expensive regular Photoshop hosting the camera-raw plug-in and the less-expensive Lightroom do allow selecting lens profile corrections.
The Camera Calibration area you refer to only deals with raw camera profiles for color rendition, not lens profiles that would correct geometric distortion.
A more fundamental question is whether there are actually lens-distortion-correction profiles for a FinePix HS10.  Usually Adobe supplies lens profiles for most Canon and Nikon DSLRs although there are a few others for other brands and types of camera, with a Fuji point-and-shoot having less chance of having a lens-profile created by Adobe.
There is an Adobe Lens Profile Downloader tool for getting third-party lens-profiles and checking it just now, it appears there is a raw profile for the FinePix HS10/HS11 built-in lens, but you still need to be using an Adobe product other than Elements to apply such a profile.

  • Lens Corrections not automatically populating information

In "lens corrections" when I enable profile corrections it does not automatically populate the make, model and profile from the metadata and I need to select the lens make manually before it will select model and profile and apply any changes. How do I fix this?

After selecting your lens and model information in the Profile Panel, change the Setup pulldown (immediately below the Check Box line) to say Save New Lens Profile Defaults.  From now on, that lens should populate correctly. You may have to do it again for other lenses/cameras.

  • Fuji X10: Lens correction not controllable

    Hello everyone.
While I like how LR corrects lens distortion of my Fujifilm X10 automatically I do not like that it leaves me with no control whatsoever over the process. Compared to out-of-camera JPGs the LR corrections are more correct (no horizontal compression), but also cut away more information from the borders.
So without any control over the strength of the lens correction or at least a way to switch it off there always is information lost!
Here is a comparison of different lens corrections of the various raw converters vs. ooc jpg. As you can see by the uncorrected Capture One example there is more (distorted) information available than LR is willing to show.
    http://www.dpreview.com/galleries/3262748529/albums/x10-lens-correction

"High Resolution" DR (ISO equal or higher than DR) in M size should be usable. L size is usable, too, but the detail is lacking (more than 6 mp, but less than 12 mp ooc JPGs). EXR DR RAW files are a special case. It's not easy to even create them with the camera, because you have to use RAW + JPG and ISO below DR and then shoot a situation where ISO below 400 is enough (broad daylight).
And these files are usable, but colors are somewhat off in LR, which can at least partly be managed via HSL. It's not perfect, because highlights of the longer exposed sensor half are handled wrong (from my point of view), but I send some example images now. We need to give Chan some time, because I only sent the files a few days ago.
One thing that doesn't work well between LR is EXR kind of noise and LR's sharpening. Some people called that "reticulation pattern" on the DPreview forum. What happens is that LR's sharpening tends to sharpen noise more distinct than anything else, so you need to keep that "Detail" slider down and overally watch sharpening. Also LR's luminance noise-reduction tends to remove more detail than the in-camera one and the color noise slider has to be used with caution in order to keep saturation (default value is too high).
It's all workable, but not exactly in love with each other.

  • FCP 7 sequence not transfering to external hard drive with media manager

Ok so heres the problem. I started making a bunch of webisodes and after I got through editing and finishing the first two on my computer, I realized while I was working on the third one I would need to transfer my workflow to an external hard drive.
My goal was to transfer all the projects individualy with media manager to a 1.5tb external hard drive I just purchased and then delete all the projects and associated files off my computer. Then set the new scratch bin to the hard drive and continue working on the third episode from the hard drive.
However, thank god when I used media manager I said "copy" the files. I opened the project I had copied in the hard drive to see if it was all there and there was no sequence with all my editing! I'm not sure why it didn't import the sequence. All the clips are still I the project tab.
Can anybody help?      Am I doing this right?
    Thanks!

The information for the Sequence is contained in the .fcp project file that should be in the same folder as your Media Managed clips. Double click it to open the new version.

  • Editing in external editor: Save back as JPG and (auto-) add to library

I want to use external edit (in my case: Adobe Photoshop Elements) for editing features not available in LR3 (for example: skew) and easily save back as JPG. The source in LR3 is a DNG-image.
LR3 offers easy workflows out-to-external-editor>back-to-LR3 if you save back as TIFF or PSD.
But, I didn't find any easy or not extremely clumsy way to saving the edited photo back as JPG to LR3 and having it organized "close" to the original/source-DNG (preferably stacked).
    Any ideas out there?

Thanks for the suggestion! If have taken your answer to dig into my problem for just another time - with positive result.
The 'save as TIFF file' option in PSE after image export from LR opens a detailed dialogue box offering amongst others 'jpg compression' within a TIFF-container (never realized this before, never heard about this concept, my fault). So my goals are met: Having an efficient process to finetune some images in PSE, having the results automatically stacked in the LR library module and having a considerable lower file-size footprint as compared to e.g. Photoshops native or TIFF with zip compression.

  • Editing iPhoto photos in external editor, i.e., PSE

    iMac running Mavericks OS.
From iPhoto, when I click a photo to edit in external editor (PSE), I am taken to the pse editor, but my photo is not.
Why is the photo not appearing?

Because you chose the logical file instead of the correct one as your external editor. The PSE icon at the top level of the PSE folder in Applications is just an alias for the welcome screen. The actual editor is buried way down in support files:

  • Copy/Paste settings always includes lens corrections even if not ticked? (LR3)

I'm having trouble with copy/paste settings on LR3, in that whenever I copy settings and paste them onto other images, the settings for the Lense Corrections section are always transferred, even though they were not ticked in the copy settings dialog. Can anyone else confirm this is a bug or am I doing something wrong?
Edit: Should have mentioned, LR 3.0, Mac OSX 10.6.4, iMac i7.
    Thanks,
    David

    I CANNOT reproduce that.
Do you have the lens correction box unchecked? or do you just have the four boxes under that hierarchy unchecked?

Am I correct that Photos does not support external editors? i.e., in Aperture, I click Photos > Edit with.... and can open in Photoshop or various plug-ins. Changes are then automatically saved back to Aperture. Nonexistent in Photos?

Thanks Larry. That certainly gives me some understanding. Can't imagine I'm the only Aperture user with that concern, so I certainly hope Adobe and others will fill the void. Without that feature, Photos is pretty much a non-started for me.

  • External editor (PS CS3) not opening to correct size

I up-rezzed a 70mb photo in Genuine Fractals to about 120 mb, saved it, but now when I send it to the external editor, PS CS3, it keeps opening it to 70mb despite being sure I have the correct 120mb version selected. Any suggestions?
    thanks
    dave

it was imported as a cr2, however the version i'm trying to open is a master. the only two options for file format are psd and tiff, and i'm opening to a tiff, but i don't see what difference that would make.
HOWEVER i just figured it out... i had entered 360 dpi, the resolution that the high rez file is set at, which is also the native resolution my printer (and epson 3800) uses. I cancelled that and left it blank and now it opens at the correct file size. I have no idea why it would do that.
