LR3 Library Folder Access

Hello,
I have a couple thousand folders in my catalog and am unable to access folders in the folders panel after a certain point and would like to know why this is happening.  The only way I can access those folders is to click All Photographs, find the image and right click to show in library.  Notice the attached screenshot shows folder 38846 highlighted and accessible.  The second screenshot shows folder 38848 and beyond as being unable to access.  The remaining folders will not respond to any mouse clicks.  I have no filters on, all stacks expanded, no images or collections are selected.  Any ideas?

I don't see why not... If you want you can do it for even more.. just make sure you don't have
multiple thousands of folders in one folder!  So you could do either two layers 0->0->0-9999  or use double digits  00->0-9999
I just wouldn't try and put 10,000 folders in one, since you know it fails after about 3000.
Cheers!

  • Can't access library folder on Time Machine Backup

I'll try to explain this as clearly as possible...
    1) I have wiped my hard drive and completed a clean install of Mavericks.  I did this due to persistant problems with disc permissions that I could not eliminate.
    2) I did not want to take a chance on introducing problems with migrating a profile from my Time Machine backup so instead of using Migration Assistant, I used Finder to browse the Time Machine backup I made prior to reformatting my drive to simply copy all my necessary data files back onto the drive in my newly created profile.
    3) I've reinstalled the majority of programs I use and everything is looking good (no disk permission problems when I've checked using Disk Utility).
    4) Mail is working just find with all my accounts having been restored using my Apple ID.
    Here's the problem....
I forgot that some of my mail had been stored on my local hard drive.  I beleive this mail should be in my user/library/mail folder of my time machine backup.  However, I cannot access my User/Library folder in Time Machine.  I've tried opening my current (new) User/Library folder in Finder and then selecting "Browse Other Backup Discs" from the Time Machine icon and, although this opens the Time Machine backups, I cannot do any time travel...in other words, although there are many stacks of folders shown in the backup, I cannot move into the past from the present.
Any suggestions on how I can get this Mail folder out of the Time Machine user/library?  I know there is some stuff there that I'm going to have to get to.
    Thanks!

It woked to get me into my current User/Library of my "new" profile but I cannot move back in time into the actual backups despite the timeline increments on the right side of the screen in Time Machine showing they're are backups for the past several months.  I'm stuck on this moment so to speak.
Got to hit the sack...head is swimming.  Thanks for the suggestions Barney.  Let me know if you think of any others.

  • How can I access my iPhoto library folder?

My hard drive recently had to be replaced, and when they replaced it, they updated to OSx 10.9. I had not backed up my photos before my hard drive crashed, but they backed up all my files for me. I went to open my iphoto library from the backup files and as a new (to me) version of iphoto 11 opened, I got a message saying that it had to update the photos in my library in order for them to be compatible with this version of iPhoto and that after updating them, I'd no longer be able to read them on an older version of iphoto. I clicked ok. It only imported 9 photos (out of several thousand). I went to finder and tried to open the iphoto library folder (which contains the library file and the cache, etc.), but the folder will not open. Instead, when I click to open the library folder, it brings up iphoto, as though to indicate that my library is there. Did I somehow unknowingly overwrite my library or something?? Any ideas why I can't access my iphoto library? Are my photos gone?
I'm stupid so I don't have copies of the photos anywhere else. I don't have Time Machine or anything. Did I irreversibly screw up??

I didn't think to check what photos were there or what the library size was before trying to import at first. How do I restore my backup of the iphoto library? (sorry if that's a stupid question). I checked in the Masters folder and only saw a few of my photos (the same ones that were imported to iphoto).
I definitely know it was a mistake not to have a backup of the photos. It'll be the first thing I do if I can get them back. The mistake I was referring to in my initial post was clicking "ok" when it asked to update---but from what you're saying it sounds like that wouldn't have deleted anything.
I'm thinking maybe the backup is not complete (even though I asked the tech people 5 times if it was!), because I checked the imovie events folder, and it's also empty (and it definitely shouldn't be)! If this turns out to be the case, I may have to go back to the repair place to see if they can still pull files off.

  • I desperately need to access my User Library folder in Time Machine (Lion so = not visible).

Hi. I installed Lion a few months ago and got a new external drive to back up Time Machine.
Nobody told me the User Library would be made hidden in the new OS. I have been backing up regularly in the belief that all my work, settings and so on was safe.
Yesterday my iMac (27" 2.8 Ghz Core it with 4 gib memory) suddenly went mad. Message saying finder had quit whilst trying to restore windows. Desktop was flashing, no icons clickable, no external disks readable. Could access some progs and terminal, but nothing else. Could not get into the history folder to trash various plists and so on as the folder is hidden and the alt Go wouldn't work. The Finder just wouldn't do anything.
I have sorted it out BUT I have lost my address book entries, my browser booksmarks, my desktop shortcuts and my iCal entries. I need to access my User Library on my Time Machine. Is there a way?
I cannot believe I have been religiously backing up my stuff but Apple has made it so I can't access my backup of one of the most important folders on my Time Machine???
Is there anyway of getting into this from Terminal or something? I will never be able to get back all the bookmarks and stuff I've been researching for years. I have it backed up on two different hard drives, both of which have 'invisible' library folders. I have make the folder visible now, for future backups, but it's after the horse has bolted. I am furious, and just feel like bursting into tears because of all the time it's going to take me to get all my work back. I can't tell you how stupid this was, Apple.
If someone could help I'd be really grateful. I've got older backups but they are so old they won't get back my recent stuff.
    Thanks.

    select Finder
hole option key and select Go in the menu
    Select Library
    Enter Time Machine
You should be seeing all the versions of you Library folder.

I lost an xcel doc a couple of days ago. Tried to find the Library folder in Users but not there when I use Finder (even when I do shift-command-G). But when trying to upload a photo in iphoto I found the library folder in Users. I can see my doc in Office 2011 Autorecovery, but can't access it! How do I get User to show Library then I can get to my long lost document?

The auto recovery dat should be in the Microsoft User Data folder in your documents folder, not in the Library. However, I Haven't had to look recently.

  • Best way to give access to Library folder, etc.

    Hello.
I have someone in our studio who needs to access various directories within the root Library folder (mainly for dealing with web/wiki file editing) — what's the best way to give them access to the server for this (assuming they'll be accessing the xserve from another machine on the LAN and not directly logging in on the Xserve itself as it's in a secure room in a rack)?
I tried using File Sharing and creating aliases or symbolic links to the requires locations, but that didn't seem to work.
FYI, all users are set up via an OD Master (if that helps)?
    Regards,
    Kristin.

    Hi Kristin,
What you are describing is a developer having access to files on the server that a running service is using. A common developer situation: modifying and editing files on a remote machine but not in use by the service. The service needs to be restarted to put the modifications into service.
A setup I'm familiar with is more tolerant of the interaction and provides backup in case things go awry. A repository on the server (subversion or git) is setup to accept versions of the file directories used by a service. Then the latest version is checked out to the service directory. The service is stopped and restarted to load this latest version. If things are not working correctly, then a rollback can be performed to restore service to the previous running version. The developer is provided an ssh connection on the lan to keep secure file transfers to and from the repository.
Using a tool such as Capistrano provides the automated mechanism to restart service and load any configuration data that may be required. Rollback is just as simple.
This approach means the service is up as much as possible. Development and testing is accomplished on a remote machine, not the server. Version control is maintained and a backup of known tested files is available for rollback. Lastly, the control of bringing online a new file or capability is allowed in a controlled manner. Security of access to files is limited to those allowed an ssh connection to the repository.
With subversion preloaded on OS 10.5 Server and git easy to install it is a straightforward solution.

I need to access one folder in user library folder from my time machine backup......but the backup disk won't show show a library folder.
Pressing option-go only directs me to the current library folder in my hard drive. I have opened up the saved disk image and need to copy one folder and put it into my current library. Trying to restore using time capsule won't let me into the user library either......

The Saved Application State folder is where Lion stores all the information required for its resume feature to function as it does. As you are looking for a specific saved game folder it will not be in the Saved Application State folder. This folder was not present in Snow Leopard so wouldn't be present on your backup previous to the Lion install.
The game saves you're looking for will most likely be located in the Application Support or Preferences folder.
    Hope this helps

  • I can not access existing library folder when editing a previously saved book, please help

    Hi
I am a 3rd year University student, brand new to lightroom and am creating (trying to) create 3 books for my final university assignment.
I have created and saved "RABBET FINAL", and then carried on with the next 2 books, I now would like to go back and add more images to "RABBET FINAL", but when i select the the library folder I used previously called "All that i have", it automatically opens a new unsaved book. I then try to click on my saved book "RABBET FINAL", and it changes a library folder to a folder which only the images which are already in "RABBET FINAL"
When I hover the cursor over the library folder at the bottom, it says "ALL that i have + unsaved book. Is this the issue?
The BOOK also has a "+" next to it, is this causing it not to allow me to select from a different library?
    I hope this makes sense.
    [email protected]

A saved book behaves like an ordinary collection.
In the book module click on RABBET FINAL in the left hand panel. It will have a double page book icon if it’s a saved book. Now right click on that saved book and choose Set As target Collection. A plus sign will indicate it is the target.
Now return to the Library and the folder with the images you wish to add. Use shift-click to select (highlight) the images you want or Ctrl+Click for individual non-consecutive images. With all of them selected press the B key and you should see confirmation that they have been added to RABBET FINAL.
Return to the book module and click on RABBET FINAL and you should see your extra images in the film strip. Click on add page and drag each image from the film strip up on to the new page. Be careful to click in the center of each filmstrip image and not one of the thumbnail icons.

  • What happened to the Library folder?

I did an upgrade to Lion this past weekend. Everything seems to work fine except the Library folder is not present. I clicked on two files from an email message and they showed up in the Mail Downloads folder, but I cannot navigate to that folder. All I have  as folders under "My Name" are: Desktop, Documents, Downloads, hob [?], Movies, Music,  Pictures. Public, Sites. Nothing else. Can someone enlighten me on where the Library folder might be?
    Thanks!

    Finder>GO  hold the option key
You can change back to visible

  • Images not in "~/Pictures/iPhoto Library" folder not properly handled

One of the features I was grateful for in iPhoto 6 is the ability to NOT import photos into the ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library" folder. This meant I could use iPhoto to view and edit photos without duplicating a folder structure I use for my photo files.
Unfortunately, I have now discovered that any program that attempts to access photos through the iPhoto API can see the previews for these images, but can not actually access the images. This means the "Desktop & Screen Saver PrefPane" can see the iPhoto previews, but fails to load an image for the Desktop (or Screen Saver). NOTE: It does appear that iMovie does see the photos properly, but other non-iLife portions of the MacOS don't.
Anyone got a fix for this? I suspect it is a bug in the iPhoto sharing API, but I am hoping someone might have a fix.

I don't think there is an API for iPhoto, or at least I cannot find it anywhere. Any integration with iPhoto is purely a hack.
If you can find documentation for an API, please let me know.

  • My iphoto library folder with files of my pictures is missing from the pictures folder, only the application icon remains.  I have read through similar discussions but have not managed to fix the problem with the recommended solutions.  Can anyone help?

I have a Macbook Pro with iphoto '08 running on Mac OS X version 10.5.8.  I used to be able to go to my pictures folder on my HD and access my pictures via that iphoto library folder.  There used to be a small arrow next to the iphoto icon with all the albums then listed within the folder (to the right).  That arrow is now gone and all I have is the iphoto application icon which just reopens iphoto when I click on it, but I want to be able to access the data files.  Somehow I do have files btwn 2008 and 2009 but it hasn't created these since then...Could someone please help me to restore this ability?  I have read other similar posts but they seem to be related to lost data all together and I do luckily have all my pictures in iphoto still. I just can't access them in the pictures folder which means I can't access them on my external hard drive.  I am now out of start up disc space somehow so I figured I had to delete some albums (I have 12,090 pictures) and do have them backed up but want to make sure I can go back for them when I need them.  I did export all the pictures to a folder on the hard drive but it is all 12,090 in one long list with only numbers as names and not in any order, this will be a nightmare to access later!  Please help!  Thank you!

You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.
That indicates that that is your library.  Put it in your Pictures folder if it already isn't there and make sure it's named "iPhoto Library".  It should look like this:
    Now launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select that library to open.  If you get that same message close iPhoto and try the following;
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • How to show the Library folder in an external hard drive

    Hi there,
I am trying to restore the Skype Chat History to my new computer.
My old hard drive crashed and had to be replaced.  Unfortunately my back-up Time Machine file was corrupted due to fact that this is a VERY EASY thing to happen and hence I DO NOT recommend that anyone uses Time Machine through a wirelessly connected hard drive, such as a Time Capsule - a very bad design flaw!
Luckily I am able to access some of the files on the old hard driave that was removed from my laptop.  However I can not find a Skype folder or the Application support folder under my user name.  Because it is an external drive, I can not use the techniques that have been suggested in other posts (such as using Terminal to permanently show the Library folder or using the Option key).
    Can you please help me!?

Open a Finder window and choose the external drive with the user folder in the Finder sidebar. Then, make sure you see your user folder in the Finder window, because you will need it.
Now, open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities) and type:
    chflags nohidden
After typing that, press the Space key and drag your user folder from the Finder window to your Terminal window, and after dragging it, now type after the dragged folder (without space):
    /Library
    In Terminal you should see:
    chflags nohidden (yourdraggeduserfolder)/Library
Finally, press the Enter key and the Library folder will show up

  • Unable to find Iphoto library folder

I have been trying to attach photos from my gmail account, but after I browse for the iphoto library folder I'm unable to see my original and modified photos folders.
Can anyone advice how to solve!
    Many thanks in advance
    Raul

This is by far the most ask question - you would have had to look back at least ten posts to find the answer
look here for the complete discussion --- http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1178149&tstart=15
For g-mail specify go to you g-mail preferences and allow POP 3 access to your account and set the g-mail account up in Apple mail - then you can select photo(s) in iPhoto, click on mail and have a new e-mail created in Apple mail which you send via G-Mail

  • My Library folder is existant, but invisible. Why, and how do i fix it?

I can't see the Library folder under /Users/[my_username] but it exists, and I can access it. I managed to get it to show up as a faded icon, but It goes away when I close the finder, and I can't make it reappear. Searching for it will not return any results, and the only way I was able to access it was through the "Go" menu, under "Go to folder..."
Can someone please tell me why my Mac is doing this, and how to fix it? Thanks!

It's because Apple put some essential files in there in 10.7+ and they don't think it's wise for it to be out in the open for people to make mistakes and place data in there by accident.
It's still accessible, just invisible and safer.
Afer all it does have a name called "Library" and people tend to use it as such unknown that Apple has placed essential files in there now which can't be deleted so that will only cause problems later with all those asking "how come I can't delete my Library folder" etc etc.

  • How do i get my TC to house my main itunes library and access it?

How do i get my TC to house my main itunes library and access it as if it was on my hardrive?

Have you considered that if you move your iTunes Library / Media Folder to the Time Capsule drive......you will have your "master" or "original" library on the Time Capsule drive?
When....not if.....you have an issue with the Time Capsule drive, you have no backup for iTunes Library / Media Folder.....and you lose everything in the library.
So, before you consider moving the Library to the Time Capsule disk, it would be a good idea to develop a backup plan for the library / media folder first.
To develop your backup plan.....(Time Machine will not work for this).....you will need to use another commercially available application that can copy data from a network drive.....like Carbon Copy Cloner or Chronosync....then you can move the iTunes Library / Media Folder from your Mac.
The following Apple Support Document provides the details on how to do this:
