LR3 loupe view slow to load

I'm running LR3 on an iMac with 4 gig ram.  My thumbnails load very quickly, much better than LR2.  But, loading a loupe view is slow, 10-15 seconds.  Additionally, the loading process "hiccups" about half way through, whereby the magnified image becomes clear, blurs and then sharpens.  Anyone else had this experience, and is there any solution?  Thanks.

Hi John
People tend to invest large amounts of money in cameras like the Canon EOS 5D mk II or the EOS 7D without any corresponding investment in computer hardware, myself included.
It’s not surprising that expectations of handling very large 18 or 21 mega pixel raw files are often unrealistic.
For me Lightroom is much quicker than using Bridge, ACR and Photoshop or the Canon utility DPP and Photoshop.
I’m not familiar with the iMac but I was running the Beta version on my old windows XP machine but have upgraded to a new windows 7 system with a much faster Intel processor and greater RAM. Ligtroom 3 is now a real pleasure to use with a noticeable improvement in the speed of using the selective adjustment tools.

  • Initial loupe view appears a little soft in LR3

    Windows 7 64bit Ultimate
    12 GB ram
    30 inch monitor resolution 2560x1600
    12000+ images in catalog
Standard previews set to 2048 Medium
Detail in loupe view seems to be soft.  When I zoom in, the detail is great.  When I zoom back, the detail remains good.  If I close LR3 and reopen, I have to zoom in and out to get the best detail in loupe view even on the same image.  I deleted the preview folder and regenerated previews at 2048 High Quality.  The same problem occurs.  This is making it hard to determine the quality of my shots.  It’s too time consuming to zoom in and out on every shot.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the update Ian,
    Maybe next time around.
That's really the only problem that I'm having, so otherwise I'm real happy with 3.2.
Thanks for all the hard work!

  • Previews slow to load

I've seen this topic on the threads, but mostly for previous versions.  I have LR4, and my previews load so slowly.  How can I speed them up?  Bridge handles the previews so fast and it is so much nicer going through with that program, but I'd like to move my workflow to LR4 solely.  But hard to with the preview handling being so much slower.  Any help?

They're not the previews that Victoria is talking about, nor are they the previews that Lightroom uses in the Library module. When you import images, you are given the choice of which type of preview you wish Lightroom to build during that import. If you routinely select "Minimal", that's what Lightroom creates, which are only thumbnail sized. That gives the quickest import speed, but it also means that whenever you attempt to view an image in the Library module using the Loupe view, an appropriately sized preview then has to be built.....hence the 'loading' delay.
If, OTOH, you were to render either "Standard" or "1:1" previews during import, you will find moving from image to image in Library using Loupe to be a much speedier process as there will be no delay waiting for the preview to be built.
If you routinely use 1:1 view in Library, building 1:1 previews during import might be a good idea (albeit it will elongate the import process).

  • Grey thumbnail, grey loupe view-- no photograph displayed in library mode

When I import a new batch of photographs my library mode, both in grid and loupe view will not show my new photographs.  And not that it just takes a bit of time to load-- the picture will not show, only gray.  This has only happened in the last month or so.  Previously everything worked well.
To get my pictures showing I have to go to develop mode and view them.  The loading is taking considerably longer than it used to as well.  I've been into my preference pane and can't see what to do.  As per a tutorial I upped my "Camera Raw Cache Settings" to 50 GB.  The problem hasn't coincided with this change however.  I don't know what is going on but I am frustrated to have all photos load but not show up in Grid or Loupe mode.
Any ideas?  I have over 7,000 photos in library.  I've validated and checked library and it comes back okay.
    Thanks for your help.
My computer is a newer 27" imac so I should have plenty of juice to run the program.  Hard drive space isn't an issue as I have a 1TB.

Sounds like a corrupted preview cache.  Let's test that theory.  Close LR. Find your catalog on your hard drive, and rename the Previews.lrdata or move it to another location - you can delete it later when we know the new one's ok.  Now restart LR, go to Grid view, select all and go to Library menu > Previews > Render Standard Previews.  Hopefully that'll bring back your previews and if everything looks correct, you can then delete the previous one.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro, v9.5.5 Slow to Load

my issue is acrobat 9 pro, v9.9.9 is slow to load (take 45 to over 100 seconds to either load from Start menu of file manager
      - Window 7 Home Premium, sp1, 64 bit
      - acrobat has been installed for years, this started with 9.5.4 and is the same under 9.5.5
      - have not loaded any new software
      - event viewer does not show any "errors" happening as I open Acrobat
      - when I try to close Acrobat it shows that Acrobat has stopped responding so something is "hanging up" but no indication what that might be
I would appreciate thoughts on what to try or look at next -
    Thanks

  • Slow index loading on mobile devices

Hi, my organisation is trialing the new RH10 multiscreen html 5 output.
Our techincal documentation includes a very large index (7000+ terms).
The index loads fine on a desktop (Chrome/FF -- under 5 seconds and IE8 -- over 10 seconds), however when we try to load the same index on a mobile device, it takes 2-5 minutes.
    Is this a known issue?
Is there a way to fix it?
Suggested fix (if Robo devs are listening):
Create an option that outputs chunked index data in JSON format (currently XML) then parse JSON to the index tree loader for tree generation and search queries.
    Thanks.
Here is the bug report I submitted:
    Concise problem statement:
Very slow index loading (>3 minutes) on large indexes (7000+ terms). Does not seem to cache index data.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
1.Create an index with over 7000 terms.
    2.Generate Mutliscreen HTML5 output.
3.Open Index in mobile browser (Safari/Android)
4.Wait for entire index to finish loading.
    5.Refresh index page.
Results:Very slow loading (>3 minutes). Does not seem to cache index data.
Expected results:Loads in under 1 minute

    Hi,
Is the mobile device connected via WiFi or 3G? What mobile device are you using and have you tried others?
I suspect the sheer size of the index is the problem. Even if it works fast, nn index with 7000 entries is not very usable on a mobile device.

  • Help viewer is not loading content

When I try to view the help files for certain apps, nothing loads. I get a spinning gray wheel. I first noticed this when trying to view the help files for iPhoto (9.5.1), but other apps such as iTunes and iBooks Author have the same problem. Some apps do have help files that work -- probably the ones that ship with Mac OS X such as Calculator.
I am having the same problem on two different MacBook Pro models, both running Mavericks 10.9.4. They are on different networks (my home and work machines).
I did look in the Console for clues and see this whenever the help fails to load:
9/8/14 4:36:31.254 PM HelpViewer[26182]: https://help.apple.com/Library/Documentation/Resources/Flamingo/6/flamingo.js: TypeError: 'null' is not an object (evaluating 't.length') (line: 2)

Sometimes just closing and reopening the Help window will clear up the problem. If it doesn't, log out or restart the computer and try again. Otherwise, you may need to delete the Help cache.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpd
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder selected. Move the selected folder to the Trash. Log out, log back in, and test. Help pages will be slow to load at first.
If that doesn't work, the problem may be caused by network conditions. It may go away by itself, though I can't say how long you should wait.
A persistent failure to load help data has been reported as an issue with satellite networks. Test on a different network, if possible. I've also seen at least one report that Photo Stream in iCloud can mysteriously interfere with Help. I'm not sure whether that's true, but try disabling Photo Stream, if applicable.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Why is photoshop elements 11 so slow to load and shut down

it takes me at least 4-5 minutes to open PSE 11 Organizer each time, and then probably 1-2 minutes to shut it down.  Has anyone experienced the same problem or does anyone have a resolution to this.  I'm on Windows 7.

I had already shut off everything in media analysis, including face

  • LR 3 convert CR2 (canon eos 5d mk2) to DNG in Loupe View issue

i have just stumbled upon an issue in LR 3 beta3.0 - when i select several images in loupe view there will be only the selected image converted to dng. the others remain untouched.
after switching to grid view everything works fine though.
manageable problem for me but maybe someone else is having the same issue and can appreciate the heads up.
    cheers
    Viktor
ps: the issue remains after restart of LR and after reboot of system.
i am running a vista 64 machine with 8gb ddr2 ram (4x 2gb geil cl4), 3.6 ghz cpu e8400 on an asus p5q pro board, with nvidia gtx 260. both the system hdd and the lightroom cache and image hdd are samsung hd753LJ 750gb sata2

    Ian Lyons wrote:
What you're describing is as designed and has been this way from before LR even got out of beta for version 1.
cannot comment on that since i never had to convert to dng after import because the import dialogue always remembered to convert the RAW files for me. since the switch to LR3 i need to do it myself thus its annoying sometimes having to do it. still i didnt expect this beavior since syncing files works in loupe mode on several files too. but now that i think about it things like "save metadata" works in grid only aswell.
just checked: the subtle difference i missed was in loupe mode the module says: "convert photo to dng" in grid: "convert photos".
thanks for clearing that up for me.

  • AppsLocalLogin.jsp slow to load first time

When logging into EBS 11.5.10.2 for the first time (for any given user), the AppsLocalLogin.jsp page takes anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds to load. Subsequent logins are nearly instantaneous.
This behavior leads me to think it's being cached somewhere, whether in the database or on the PC. Is there a way to pre-load it into the cache, to speed up that initial login? Or is there something else going on here that is causing the slow initial load?
    Thanks,
    Lori

As part of the server startup, similar to Hussein mentioned, do a:
    wget http://<hostname>.<domainname>:<port>/OA_HTML/AppsLocalLogin.jsp?username=<username>
or similar for your O/S.Thanks, I'm experimenting with this.
Or go one step further and script the user/password form submit for a given user.Any tips on how to go about this?
PS. I have to ask, how often are you restarting your instance? Since the issue is only the first time the first user logs on, I
woudn't have thought it would be a problem? Or is there something we are missing. We bounce our forms tier nightly at 3 am, so it tends to be an issue for users first thing in the morning. The reason I'm investigating now, though, is because we will soon be deploying a DMZ tier for self service HR, and expect to have more users who don't log in frequently. It's more for "appearances" sake - i.e., we don't want users to log in once to view their paystub, and be frustrated because the one and only time they log in, it takes so long.

  • Reports that are slow to load

I am adding a report in my project at the vb.net 2005 but they are slow to load. What is the best way to do this task to be loaded into faster?.
I am using the Crystal Report version 2008 with Visual Studio.Net 2005 in a Windows application.
The evidence I have done so much in development environment as user stations, in both situations the burden of reporting slow.
I am adding the reports through a Crystal Report Viewer
Very thanks and greetings from Costa Rica.

Look at where and as I put the code Ludek
    Private Sub Frm_Reporte1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
            Dim Reporte As New CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument()
            Reporte.Load("
    glauco\Reportes\Ventas 08\Vta - Sugerido Pedidos.rpt")
        End Sub
However, the form still takes 6 seconds to load and reporting over 2 seconds.
I said, I'm only using a CrystalReportViewer in which I have directed the report from the server by selecting Properties from the menu ReporSource of CrystalReportViewer.
Do not know if this will have something to do. Honestly, I have worried about this situation because I have everything ready to take the project as soon as possible.
    Again, thank you very helpful.

  • Mail Slow to Load Images

I've gotten MOST issues addressed/fixed since Mavericks came out, but one I've noticed that is a bit annoying. Images in emails are slow to load. Not just with Gmail account, other accounts as well. Any others getting this? I'm on a MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013.

I'll try to submit this as a bug report when I get a chance.  The desired behavior would be to show as much of the message as possible without blocking the application...the way a web browser normally does when rendering a web page as elements come in.
One other quirk: in the case of the email tracking example I gave, it does not help to disable "display remote images in HTML messages" under Mail...Preferences...Viewing.
Actually, when disabling this feature, it seems like Mail downloads the images, but simply does not display them.  It takes a while to display some emails without displaying the remote images when the feature is disabled, then I hit "load images" and the images instantaneously appear.  They must have already been downloaded.  If true, then this is undesirable behavior indeed, e.g., when trying to minimize bandwidth during travel or when trying not to be tracked by email senders!
