LR4.1 Update

I get a message that says LR4.1 is availabe to download, but when I click download, it simply goes to a page that describes LR4.  What gives?

Hi,
I got the same page, but found the 4.1 download links on the New Downloads page:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/new.jsp
Camera RAW 7.1 updates are there as well.
Hope this helps.

  • 4_4 LR4 update corrupts cache?

I've been using LR4 since it came out, with few problems.  Transitioned to a 64-bit computer (Win7) two months ago, and the few problems I had went away.  And then.....(sigh) on April 15, I downloaded the latest update to LR4.  Since then, Any catalog I open will get a corrupt cache error within a minute of opening - at which time it corrupts the catalog in use (and of course, it's not repairable).  If anyone knows of a way to downgrade (and please do NOT say "reinstall") please advise.  This is simply unusable at this point.

yes, the preview cache is easily fixed.  But that's NOT the problem.  when LR quits, I then reload, at wich point I'm told the catalog is corrupt.  Attempt to repair, and it cannot.
Just got off the phone with Adobe - they are aware of the 4_4 problem (to me, that would indicate that they should pull it from downloads, but they haven't), and to "just reinstall".

  • I Use LR Daily - Love LR4 Updates... 2 Suggestions + 1 Question

As a full time photographer in Iraq, I use LR a few hours each day.  As crazy as it might sound, I love it enough to adjust my workflow to any shortcomings in LR.
The map feature and quick/easy video edit capabilities in LR4 beta are great, and the book stuff is spot on too (and I'm sure other companies will jump on board, but no complaints from me about blurb - I use them).
    2 suggestions....
    1) I would LOVE a simple face detection feature like the one that has been in google's free picasa for several years now.  There are projects I work on that involve pulling in photos that include many different individuals and keywording and good organization can only automate that process for me partially.  I actually will go into picasa and use it to 'find faces' then manually go back into LR to finish my project.  Not the end of the world, but seems like something that would be a good addition to LR.  And of course, I'm sure it's not this simple but there's always the argument of "hey it's even in picasa, and that's free!" :-)
    2) With regard to the publish feature, myself and many photog friends would like to see a feature to publish to our business / fan 'pages' instead of just our personal page.  90+% of my photos on facebook are published to my fan page, which I currently do with a manual export (preset) then a separate upload to facebook.  Would be great to add that as a feature as well.
Question - when/how can we get the smugmug publish feature added into LR4beta?  I use that feature daily as well in LR3.
Lastly - absolutely love the amount of information that I can recapture from one raw file now in LR4 with the highlight and shadow recovery sliders.... just awesome!
    thanks!

As far as face detection goes, there's a long thread running.  Considering the timescale, it's unlikely to hit LR4, but you never know for the future.
For Publish, try Jeffrey's Facebook plug-in http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/facebook - he's got a lot of extra features, I believe including fan pages.
SmugMug will now be distributed direct from SmugMug because they can release updates much more quickly than an Adobe plug-in that can only be updated with a main release.

  • LR4 auto adjusting and messing up my RAW files since latest update? How do I turn this off?

    HELP!
This latest LR4 update has somehow turned my RAW files into these wretched looking too bright, too yellow/orange, messes.  I DO NOT have it set to auto import with any presets. I am not able to "reset" back to the usual dull, blah, flat looking RAW files I used to see in my LR4.
I also know for a fact that this is NOT how I took the images so the setting it's being imported with are not how I took the images.  I know this because I've been shooting RAW-Jpeg since I noticed this and couldn't find where to turn this setting off, and my JPEGS look NOTHING like what this is importing them as.
It's importing them all, regardless of session as I've imported 10 different sessions lately, and ALL of them somehow change over from the dull images RAW files typically look like when I click on them to enlarge them to have Temp 5500, Tint, -11, Exp +70, Contrast +5, highlights -9, Shadows +9, Whites -98,  Blacks -2, Clarity +19, Vib +10, Sat +19, and Orange +6 with Sharpening 81 and Noise Reduc at 4.
What's going on??? How do I reset them back to the original RAW settings and stop LR from importing every.single.session with the settings above? I have no Presets with these settings either!

Thank you to a fellow photog who answered my question via Facebook!  Apparently one of my assistants mistakenly made adjustments in the Libray tab to the "Saved Prest" which saved her settings as "Custom" as well as saved the Whitebalance change she made there and the Tone Control section.  I hit the "reset all" button under Tone Control and all is right with the world again! WHEW!

  • I can't import RAW files in LR4.4?

    Hi, i'm using LR4 updated to the latest version LR4.4, I tried to import my RAW pictures from my NIKON D3300 (.NEF) but I can't. it says the following;
'The files are not recognized by the raw format support in lightroom'. What does that mean? and how do I import those RAW files in LR4?
I can see the images preview, can't open them and can't import them. Help please?!

First, you don't have the latest version, and you need at least Lightroom 5.4 to open these photos.
If you don't want to upgrade (which costs money) to Lightroom 5.4, you can download the FREE Adobe DNG Converter (version 8.4 or later) and then use that software to convert your RAWs to DNG, and then import them into Lightroom 4.4.

  • LR4 and Camera Raw 6.7

    Hello,
This is my first post, so please bear with me if I do something wrong.
I got LR4 (update from 3) right after it was relesed.  I also have Photoshop CS5, so I ran into the PS/LR4 interoperability issue like everybody else.  I just checked the status of this issue and I read the followinng in the Lightroom Journal (posted by thogarty on March 12, 2012 under the title "Lightroom 4 Hot Issues":
The team would like to provide an update on several issues discovered since last Monday night’s launch. Thanks for your patience while we investigated and compiled this list.
    Edit in Photoshop Workflow
Currently, the Edit in Photoshop workflow asks that you have the Camera Raw 7 plug-in installed.  Please note that the Camera Raw 7 plug-in is not available at this time.  The correct plug-in for Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS5 compatibility is Camera Raw 6.7, currently available on Adobe Labs Please keep in mind that currently Camera Raw 6.7 is a a Release Candidate version of the plug-in. A “release candidate” label indicates that this update is well tested but would benefit from additional community testing before it is distributed automatically to all of our customers.
This is a little confusing.  When I start up LR4 and go to Help>About I get the About window in whose upper right corner I see "Lightroom 4.0, Camera Raw 7.0".  What is going to happen when the Camera Raw 6.7 gets released and I install it.  Is it going to upgrade my PS plug-in only or, perhaps, downgrade my LR4 plug-in at the same time?
    REgards,
    Andy

I don't have Lightroom 4. And from what I had seen so far in the forum, I don't plan on getting it. But from what I have seen I don't think things are any different than they have been with previous versions. Lightroom 4 has been designed to work with Camera Raw 7, which will be part of Photoshop CS6. I don't have the CS6 Beta, and don't plan on getting it. But apparently ACR 7 is not yet ready for release. When you don't have the current release of Camera Raw my experience has been that Lightroom has always given that warning and provided you with the opportunity to edit a copy which includes the Lightroom adjustments. The reason this has to be done is that when you send a raw image from Lightroom to Photoshop Camera Raw Has to interpret the adjustments. And if you don't have the current version the best thing to choose is to send a copy that includes the Lightroom adjustments.
But there seems to be a problem at this point because Lightroom 4 has been released ahead of Photoshop CS6 and so things are out of sync at the present time.
When I was still using Lightroom 2 and even Lightroom 3 I was using Photoshop CS3. So my option was always to send a copy of the raw image to Photoshop. In those two versions of Lightroom the adjustments carried through and I felt the results were acceptable. Apparently, that isn't the case right now with the new version.
Sending a copy to Photoshop doesn't really cause problems, in my opinion. Even if you don't have to do that, once you have completed your adjustments in Photoshop that image has to be saved as a new image. The adjustments cannot be applied from Photoshop to the original raw image. That has never been the case.
In light of all the problems a lot of people seem to be having, I am steering clear of Lightroom 4, at least for the time being. I still get good results with Lightroom 3.6 and have full support for all my cameras. But it seems to me that it's going to take some coordinated effort from Adobe to get this Lightroom/ACR discrepancy resolved. Good luck to all of you. I'm just having a lot of fun with my Lightroom 3/Photoshop CS5 combination.

  • LR3 to LR4:  Windows 7 Title Bar

Recently upgraded LR3 to LR4 on two machines.  On one computer Lightroom 4 catalog...shows in the Windows title bar.  On the other computer Lightroom 3 catalog…shows in the Windows title bar.  Is there something that I missed when performing the upgrade?

No I don't think so. Lr4 updates the Lr3 catalog the first time you opened Lr4. But updating the catalog does not mean that the name of the catalog file is changed.
So, if your Lr 3 catalog had been named "Lr 3" then the updated Lr 4 catalog would still be named "Lr 3" - although it is the Lr 4 catalog.
The name of the file is totally un-important, you can name the catalog file anything you want. What counts is the contents of the catalog file not its name.
Since you work in Lr 4 the catalog must be a Lr 4 catalog - even if its name is "Lr 3".
If this annoys you, you can change the file name in your OS (Mac Finder / Win Explorer). You should rename the catalog file and the preview file. After renaming the files double-click the catalog file and Lr 4 will  open with it.
BUT PLEASE - back up your catalog in a safe location before you proceed with renaming the catalog.

  • External editing does not work in LR4 (??)

external editing does not work in LR4 (updated from LR3 a few days ago)

a friend of mine has the same problem - also updated from LR3 to LR4, external editor: elements 10
Which process version is the image you're trying to edit externally?
You right-click (I'm assuming PC, can't help Macs), there should be a context menu option "Edit in".  You choose that, and there's an option for Elements 10 or not?
If so, what happens when you select it?  Do you get any further message?
If not, you may have to go to Edit menu, preferences, External Editing tab and create a preset for Elements.  In the "Additional External Editor" area, click "Choose" and navigate to wherever Elements is on your machine and you can create a new external editor.

  • LR4: Where is the BW-presets from LR3?

    Hi all
I have just updated to the LR4 - and misses the BW-presets from LR3. What happened to them? I think especially of the Creative - Look 1-4. I don't think that the new "Look 1-5" is the same - or is it?
Can I export the old presets into LR4?
    Morten

The LR preset to which you are refering makes heavy use of Recovery, Highlight, and Brightness (among other things). Those sliders are not available in PV2012.  The new presets in LR4.x use the new sliders and the new Look 5 is close.
You could export the old presets reimport them into LR4 but realize the effect relies on Sliders from PV2010 and you will revert to the Process Version and the old slider set each time you apply them.
You could probably reverse engineer the look by creating a LR3.x edit and importing it into LR4, updating the PV and then tweaking it to match.  Then you could save that as a new preset.

  • How do I unregister a serial number for LR and replace it with another one?

    Hello
I got LR3 with my Leica M9. Now I sold my M9 and I'm waiting for the next Leica M to arrive in the next few months. Since LR is more or less part of the Leica-Software, I sold it with it and for the time, while I waiting for the next M, I bought a new LR-License.
Now I want to give the buyer of my camera the license number for the LR3, that came with the M9 and the LR4-update to it, so he can use it with the camera.
My problem is now, that I can not unregister the license-number in my Adobe-account for the old LR. How do I do that? After unregistering I want to install my new LR, that just arrived today and register it, but I'm afraid, that I have two registered LR4 versions then and can't give the solde one to the buyer of the camera.
Thanks for any help and best regards!

Will my LR3 Libraries integrate with LRCC? do I need to transfer anything?

  • Edited Elements file doesn't render

New LR4 user. After editing in Elements the edited file doesn't render in LR although I can see it as it was before editiing? Help please!

When you say it doesn't render in LR, do you mean you press Save in Elements and the photo never appears in LR?
Which version of Elements?  And is LR4 updated to 4.2?

  • HotPixels show up after several LR processing steps

    Dear all,
I am having two problems with Nikon Raw Processing and LR4.1.
1st: I am producing and processing content for ESO (European South Observatory), especially TimeLapses. Those sequences consist of hundreds of Images in hundreds of folders. Source files are either from D3s, D4, D700, D7000 or the like.
Several development changes are applied to single key images in a sequence, and those later applied to all images in that sequence. Problem is that after a certain amount of development changes (that are written in to the XMP sidecar files with LR4), hot pixels start to show up in the images that were not visible before.
Seems like the oversaturated pixel information (Hot Pixel) that is always stored within the RAW images, is lost after a certain amount of development changes.
2nd: is there a known trick how to force LR4 into updating ALL thumbnails after development changes, including those, that are outside the currently visible grid view?
It is very time consuming to manually page up and down the grid to have LR4 updating the thumbnails on each page (of for example a folder of 1200 images) so that one gets a preview of the TL sequence with the current development changes in Library View.
    Thanks for any help
    Chris

    Hi Trshaner,
yes, to all your suggestions. Tried them alreadym and it's in our workflow.
With Astro-TimeLapse and/or panning motions it is even more complex. You immediately see the static hot pixels during a timelapse motion on a moving landscape.
First you cannot use the adjustment brush on stars - it looks odd when they move trough and brush areas fill and empty with other stars during the Timelapse Motion. Second once you pan or have a dolly movement some brush areas "move" trough trees or other parts of the landscape. it looks very ugly. what you can do is to stop brushing the hot pixels there for the the couple of images, or do all by hand means adjusting the healing brush location outside the tree or other part of the landscape moving by.
enclosed are some screenshots with brushed hot pixels, and the start of a pan and the end - the timelapse motion in this instance goes over 344 frames (not that much, but enough to work on for a couple hours).
    remains my question:
I don't see those hot pixels during the first processing steps which are all synced over all images of a set (lighten darks, color correction, gradation curve etc). at some point during processing and developing they start to show up. And I can't remember that this was the case with LR3.
any idea on how to force LR4 to update ALL previews also those outside the grid are still very appreciated.
    this here illustrates my problem:
(watch it until the end how it should look like on preview)

it got a bit better now with a current MBP 15" 2.6 Ghz Core i7 and SSD's and Mountain Lion (Lion was quite slower), but still previews outside the grid do not get updated...
    all the best

  • Lightroom 4 help

When I press Control Z, instead of undo, I get a cross processed image.  Several other keyboard keys apply weird settings to my images.
This is happening with the latest LR4 update I think.  Can I restore to previous version or fix this issue?

Thanks CSS Simon. I also found that if you chose the Help option, "Lightroom Online", there is a search window at the top of the page. Why they make you go through that trouble is odd. Why didn't they just carry over the same procedure that is in all the other Adobe products like Elements and CS5?
I posted another question with which you might be able to help. The "Edit in..." option doesn't seem to work with the "Edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments" selection. Any clues?
    Thanks again,
    Joe

  • LR3 Menu appearing

First off - I love the new version.  Adjustments, especially clarity seem to work so much better. More effective controls that seem "tuned" better so adjustments, even major ones, look more natural.
The issue I'm seeing is that I imported some photos, some of which were previously edited in LR3.  When I open the photos that were originally edited in LR3, the LR4 menu changes to the LR3 menu choices in the "Basic" menu. I literally see the LR4 menu changing into the LR3 menu.  And it actually seems to be using the old LR3 functionity so for example, the Clarity control does not work as well as in LR4.  I have LR3.6 64bit version in addition to LR4 beta 64 bit.  Editing RAW files from Canon 5DMKII.
Menu when editing photo previously edited in LR3.  If you do a reset, then the menu changes to the LR4 menu.
Menu editing photo from same directory and same import that wasn't orginally edited in LR3 which is the normal LR4 menu.

That is as-designed to keep you from changing photographs that you already finalized in LR3.  This will be important when you have the final version of LR4 update your LR3 catalog.  Change the photograph from PV2010 to PV2012 and the new menus will be available for you.

  • Moving images from external HD to internal - lost metadata (mac)

got myself in a bit of a pickle here...
got a new imac - and upgraded from LR2 to LR4
all images are stored on an external hard drive - i *want* all of my pictures on the internal HD
so i copied the pictures folder to the internal HD - opened LR4, updated the catalog file (moved it from the extHD - pointed it to the new location on the internalHD)
apparently the lrcat file didn't get informed though - i had blank spaces in grid-view where there used to be pictures
so.. jiggered around with it until it found all the pictures (they appeared in grid view) - except, now there were alternating picture/blank-spaces
i discovered a way to "find" all the missing pictures - then "removed" them
unfortunately, when we checked our work, we found that the meta-data didn't come with the pictures that remained - so, no stars, tags, flags, etc.......
good thing is.. i still have the original files and LRCAT file on the extHD
can somebody help me right this ship??
(i think i want to just uninstall LR4 and start all over)

Obviously you can just use the Finder to copy the external iPhoto Library to your new Mac Pro. You should change the name of it first so you don't get the two mixed up or accidentally replace one with the other.
If you want the old and new photos in a single library you have a couple of choices. The free choice would be to import the "several images" from the MacPro's current library into the external library.
An easy way to merge two libraries is to use iPhoto Library Manager. It's available here: http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/
It has some functions in the free download version but more advanced functions require the US$19.95 shareware fee.
