LR4.2 and "Do not import selected duplicates" does not always work.
LR4.2 and "Do not import selected duplicates" does not always work. Running a Mac, 10.6.8, I am cleaning up hard drives, organizing old files. There are times lightroom 4.2 (and before) does not recognize already imported raws and does not gray them out. These are backed up cards and folders of of raw images. Why is the "do not import selected duplicates" check box not working???!!!
There's a known (and old) bug when duplicate identification fails on photos
that have been imported from another catalog.

Despite checking the "Do not import suspected duplicates"box, Lr4 still did re-import hundreds of photos from the same exact card they were imported from originally. Anyone know what I should do differently next time?
The problem with duplicate detection is that, as far as I can tell, Lightroom is using details it discovers about the file being imported (examining EXIF data and file stats) and what is already in the catalog. Unless it finds an exact match for all parameters, the file is not considered a duplicate. From my own experience, if Lightroom decides a file is a duplicate it is nearly always correct. However, when it misses, it really misses. I have not read anywhere that Lightroom is building and storing a hash count which would make the process more accurate. I also suspect that the search for duplicates is when you are importing a set of photos from one location (a memory card for example) and storing them into the same folder all the time. So, if you take a memory card and import all the photos into Folder_X and then later try and import the same photos into Folder_X again, Lightroom will catch that they are duplicates. But, if you were to import that same group of photos into Folder_Y, Lightroom will not catch it indicating the comparison is not catalog wide. I am not sure how to influence this behavior and it is not anything you did wrong or failed to do. It just is the way it is...

With previous editions of iTunes for Windows, I could play a CD at the same time as it was being imported. That does not seem to work anymore. Why not, and is there a way to do both with the most current version? I am running a Surface Pro 2 with Windows 8.1 and the most recent vesion of iTunes, which, in all other respects, works well. I just can't listen to an album for the 1/2 to 1 hour that it takes to import it into my library.
Two JVM's ? I thought that J2EE worked within a single JVM and run everything in containers. Can you see the two processes?

I just downloaded trial version -- don't see iPhoto library in Aperture and need to import selected photos to edit, not entire i Photo library! I read manual and it says:
Browsing and Selecting Images in Your iPhoto Library
You use the Aperture iPhoto Browser to review iPhoto images and import specific images into the Aperture library. The iPhoto Browser gives you a handy way of looking for certain images without having to import your entire iPhoto library.
So, where do I review the iPhoto images...there is nothing in there that says "iPhoto Library" Everything I see pertains to Aperture Library which of course is empty since I haven't imported (or dragged) any photos in there yet.
Also is tech support available for Aperture? I have Apple Extended Support and I sure would love it if I had individual help. I have a deadline --3 days to edit 300 photos and I'm a complete amateur. iPhoto doesn't have the capability to erase parts of a face (I need to contour the neck of a mannequin to make it proportionate to the separate head I put on top of it. I'm sure Aperture must have a tool to help me do that! At least I hope so.where do I review the iPhoto images
File -> Import -> Show iPhoto Browser

Sounds more like a job for Photoshop to me
if I decide to import entire iPhoto library into Aperture will it delete my iPhoto library?
No.

I'm using windows 7, trying to download pictures from my canon 5d mark 2, but when I click import, the camera does not appear. I've tried changing USB ports, switching the camera on and off, trying a different USB cord, tried a different camera, but nothing. Please help! This problem only started a few days ago on lightroom 3.6, upgraded to 5.5, but still not working. Thanks.
Can you see the Canon EOS camera and image files using Windows Explorer? If not disconnect the camera, close all applications' shutdown Windows, and TURN OFF the power to your system and ALL connected devices. Disconnect all phones, iPads, and any other USB devices and restart your system.
Retry Windows Explorer and see if your camera is showing. If so try LR import again. -
I have an mp3 DVD with episodes of Gunsmoke. iTunes imports them, but does not sort them correctly by date or episode. One file name is GS 52-04-26 001 Billy the Kid.mp3. iTunes sorts them by month/day/year. How can I fix that?
The weird thing is, it worked before. I encoded all the videos previously and had them all listed and didn't encounter this problem, but I noticed I'd forgotten to decomb/detelecine the videos so I deleted everything and re-encoded it all. AFter filling the tags out and setting poster frames again I was thinking of making life easier by just pasting the same artwork for every episode, so I did, but didn't like the results so I deleted it again (I selected every video, used Get Info and pasted the artwork that way).
I think it was after this that the problem started to occur. In any case I've been through every episode and made sure the name, series, episode and episode id fields are all filled in with incremental values and they are. I even made sure the Sort Name field was filled in on every video. But this didn't work either.
So, thinking another restart was needed I deleted every video again. Re-encoded them all, again. Set the tags for every video and poster frame again. Finished it all off nicely, checked cover flow and was highly annoyed to find it was STILL showing the same two pieces of art work for every video as shown in that image I posted.
Ultimately, I wouldn't care so much that cover flow is screwing up like this as I always intended to sort by program anyway so it would only ever display one piece of artwork for an entire series of videos, however where-as when it was working it picked the artwork for the first episode of a series to display, its instead picking one of the latter episodes. I can't seem to find any way of choosing what artwork I want displayed. -
SELECT DISTINCT does not work - Another Problem!
Dear All
Previous Post
I just posted a thread, which has been answered by an expert. It's here:
SELECT DISTINCT does not work. Why?
My original problem was that the Query returned duplicate records, and SELECT DISTINCT did not work.
The solution was to change this select:
T0.[U_SupInv] AS 'Link'
... to this:
CAST(T0.[U_SupInv] as nvarchar(100)) AS 'Link'
The amended Query worked.
New Problem
I just discovered that resolving the problem created a new one.
The field U_SupInv (Link) is in fact a UDF.
I created it so that all Suppliers' Invoices could be Scanned to pdf files, and these pdf could be linked
to the respective AP Invoice.
Originally, when I clicked 'Link' in my Query results, the pdf scan pops up.
When the Query is amended by adding CAST, the link becomes dead.
Help
Could anyone tell me how I can make SELECT DISTINCT work, as well keeping the LINKS live?
The main purpose of my Query is to help users view the pdf scans by clicking on the links.
Thanks
Leon Lai
Here's my Original Query
SELECT
T0.[UpdateDate] AS 'Update Dt',
T0.[TaxDate] AS 'Doc Dt',
CASE T5.[TransType]
WHEN '18' THEN 'PU ' + CONVERT(VARCHAR(6), T0.[DocNum])
WHEN '19' THEN 'PC ' + CONVERT(VARCHAR(6), T0.[DocNum])
END 'SAP Ref.',
T1.[ImportLog] AS 'Ship #',
T0.[CardCode] + '' AS 'Supplier #',
T0.[CardName] AS 'Supplier Name',
T0.[DocTotal] AS 'Rs',
T1.[BlockNum] AS 'Reqn #',
T0.[DocNum] AS 'Doc No',
T0.[U_SupInv] AS 'Link'
FROM klship.[dbo].[OPCH] T0
INNER JOIN klship.[dbo].[PCH1] T1 ON T0.[DocEntry] = T1.[DocEntry]
INNER JOIN klship.[dbo].[OJDT] T5 ON T0.[TransID] = T5.[TransID]
WHERE
(T0.[UpdateDate] >= '[%2]' AND
T0.[UpdateDate] <= '[%3]' AND
T0.[U_SupInv] IS NULL)
OR
(T0.[UpdateDate] >= '[%4]' AND
T0.[UpdateDate] <= '[%5]' AND
T0.[U_SupInv] IS NOT NULL)
FOR BROWSEDear István Korös,
Thanks a lot for your answer.
I will test your suggestion tomorrow, as it's night and I am returning home now.
However, I do not think it will suit my requirements for the foll reasons:
- I worked hard to get rid of the need to enter anything in the @Scan2 field.
- This UDF was created solely as a text of instruction for my staff.
Unfortunately I had to fill in something to make the Query work.
- The problem is that if the user forgets to click the drop-down arrow and leaves @Scan2
blank, the query does not work.
- With the help of another expert, I succeeded in ignoring @Scan2 altogether.
- I posted only a simplified version of my Query on the forum, without the codes relating to eliminating the
need to enter something in @Scan2, so you may not be aware of my requirement.
- I hope you understand my reluctance. But I will try your suggestion nevertheless.
My Suggestion
I think using PCH1.VISORDER may be the solution.
If we select only those rows where visorder = 0, then
- there will be no duplication
- I need not use SELECT DISTINCT
- All my LINKS to pdf files will be live because I need not use CAST
- I may retain that part of my Query which permits ignoring @Scan2 altogether.
- A Dream!-
The problem is that I don't know how and where to place that VISORDER.
If you think I may be right, could you help me along that line?
Best Regards

I have my PC on, then plug in my iPad (which is on) and open iTunes. The iPad does not show up in the sidebar. How do you get it to show up so that I can select the iPad and then configure the sync settings in each of the settings panes....hoping that these actually show up.
In the manual it says "log in to your computer user account before connecting iPad". I am the only user of this PC...does this mean some other user account. I am confused. I need "baby steps" to tell me how to do all this....very senior and just learning about this wonderful machine. I will very much appreciate your help.If you are the only user on your computer you probably don't have multiple user accounts set up and can disregard that. If you are using iTunes 11 go to View>Show Sidebar. Now see if your iPad appears under Devices on the left side when you connect it. If it does, click on the name of your iPad on the left side and your iTunes sync settings options will appear in folders with tabbed headings to the right.
If it doesn't appear on the left side, follow the troubleshooting steps shown in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538. -
Greetings, I am working in Final Cut Pro 7. In the timeline some clips show as offline. I tried going to sequence and reconnecting to media but it does not work. I can still see the video in the timeline and work with it. It just has the red box. Thanks! Olga
If the clips are not actually missing, you could try to refresh the timeline by using cmd-0 and then going to the timeline options tab. Then select name only where it says "thumbnail display". Press ok to accept the change, then repeat the process to add thumbnails back to your timeline.

I updated my ad to iOS 6 and now my App Store app does not work, how can I get it back
I updated my iPad 2 with the latest iOS 6 and now my App Store application does not work right. The only part that does work is the genius, and the purchased, but I cannot search for any new apps now have the categories come up. I don't know how else to search for apps, and I don't know how to download this as it was pre installed.
Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPad shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds). Ignore the "Slide to power off". -

"Selected disk does not exist" after install using Unetbootin
Hello, I downloaed core iso file and use unetbootin to created a bootable usb disk, then I booted from the usb disk, installed the system as usual, then I rebooted the machine, the grub menu is shown, but when I selected archlinux, it shows:
Booting 'Arch Linux'
root (hd1,0)
Error 21: Selected disk does not exist
Press any key to continue...
if I press any key, it goes to grub menu again.
I noticed that when I installed the system, the usb disk is /dev/sda1, the harddisk is /dev/sdb1, /dev/sdb2 ... (several partitions), so I guess there is a problem here, and when I reboot, harddisk becomes /dev/sda1 sda2... so the system cannot find /dev/sdb1 2...
I read a post about unetbootin, it did not mention anything about the problem, so I think there is no problem install using unetbootin...Try to change (hd1,0) pour (hd0,0). GRUB considers the disk from where he was loaded as hd0.
If you want more infos check with http://sourceforge.net/projects/bootinfoscript/
and post it's output. -
Hi all,
I'm trying to pratice EJB 3 (which I learnt at school), with JSF and JPA, but i'm really stuck with that error :
Exception [TOPLINK-6094] (Oracle TopLink Essentials - 2.0 (Build b41-beta2 (03/30/2007))): oracle.toplink.essentials.exceptions.QueryException
Exception Description: The parameter name [departmentID] in the query's selection criteria does not match any parameter name defined in the query.
Query: ReadAllQuery(oracle.datamodel.Employees)
I will try to explain clearly what i'm trying to do :
In fact, i'm following that tutorial :
http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/10131/ejb_and_jpa/master-detail_pagewith_ejb.htm
But, as i didn't have any oracle database, but had a mysql one on my machine, i decided to use that DB instead of the the oracle DB... So i created a set of example data (to replace the oracle example set) ...so i created the tables EMPLOYEE, and DEPARTMENT... with the correct relations (FK) and PK)
All was ok, i choose my "mysql-connector" (jdbc) instead of the oracle jdbc connector... so i could follow the tutorial.
My problem appears at the step 12 (of "Creating a Master-Detail JavaServer Faces Page"), when i run the file deptEmployees.jspx.
The information of the first departement displays correctly :
departmentID 1
departmentName ... etc
but it can't display the employees belonging to that department !
the error is :
JBO-29000: Exception Description: The parameter name [departmentID] in the query's selection criteria does not match any parameter name defined in the query. Query: ReadAllQuery(oracle.datamodel.Employees)
I think i understand what is the problem... I think that the query in charge of gathering the data of a specific departement need a parameter, but couldn't find it. But i don't know why :-/ I have tried many things and read the topics talking about that error... but it didn't solved the problem. I don't know anymore where to investigate.
I have created a Zip file of my work (it's an EJB/JSF Application.. with jdev 10.1.3.3.0)
(available here : http://dl.free.fr/mQ5esdQuS/EJB_appli.zip)
I would be glad if someone could take few minutes to help me.
Thank you in advance,
Thomas B (student)Hello,
This is a common mistake. Java string comparisons in TopLink are case sensitive by default, and since column names are uppercase when defaulted, TopLink cannot find the "departmentID" column name. In this case, Departments ID column defaults to "DEPARTMENTID" as required by the JPA specification.
Either change Departments id annotation to @Id
@Column(name="departmentID", nullable = false)
private Integer departmentID;or change Employees' ManytoOne annotation to:
@ManyToOne
@JoinColumn(name = "departmentID", referencedColumnName = "DEPARTMENTID")
private Departments departments;Best Regards,
Chris -

If you don't see your created file in the path that you configured then see Messages - Log of JDeveloper if you have permission problems to write.
Regards.
PD: Sorry i mistake talking about .mar file instead of EAR file
