LR4, 5D3 Raw sharp in LIBRARY blur in DEVELOP

When I process my Canon 5D Mark III RAW files in LR4.
the preview image in LIBRARY is prefectly fine,
yet when I'm in DEVELOP the "preview" image in "fit" and "fill" are bit soften / blurred.
its fine when I zoom into 1:1...
now I can only pick picture at LIBRARY, then enter into DEVELOP to retouch them.
Please HELP !!!!

Thanks for the screen shot.
The "Camera Raw Settings" step in the History is simply changing your WB (white balance) setting from "As Shot" to "Custom".
However, when Lightroom is "Loading" you file, it is reading the raw information in the file, determining its native settings. The thumbnail you see right after import is an imbedded JPEG. LR then reads the raw info and generates a new thumbnail. What is likely going on is that you are adjusting the white balance while the raw information is still being read, so your adjustments are being based on the JPEG settings (which are incorrect). Once the raw info has been read, that information is being added to the "Camera Raw Settings" history step.
To verify this, try creating a virtual copy of the file (to preserve your current settings), undo the entire history on the original, and then adjust the WB again. See if your results are same as the virtual copy.

  • Sharpness between library and development module

for some reason, after working on photo and putting it back into library if i open the very same shot in development all the other new work will be present but the shot will look less sharp. if i flick back to library it sharpens up again. The same happens a little differently in CS6. Here, if i zoom just a litle the shot sharpens to what it should be but if come back out it softens a bit.
    Bit weird really
Can anyone help ? I'd like them all to look exactly as they are shoudl obviously...
    Cheers,
    S

    Thanks for that Bob,
the really confusing thing is that the magnification appear to be identical between the library and development module while the development module is still softer....

The general rule is that sharpening will only appear correctly at 1:1 in Lightroom, or at 100% in Photoshop. Any other magnifications are just a simulation of what the pixels would look like if you could see them all, i.e. not accurate. Bob Frost

  • After I use the Develop module in LR4 I edit in PS-CS4, now the develop changes do not show in CS4.

After I use the Develop module in LR4 I edit in PS-CS4, now the develop module changes do not show in CS4.

You need to send the file over to CS4 as a PSD (with Lightroom Adjustments checked)
CS4 cannot interpret the newer processing version used by Lightroom 4

  • Bridge Preview quality is not sharp and is blurred compared to PSE win

I've been using a Mac for a couple of years but to date have been running PSE 4 on Windows but I migrated this to my Mac so have been running under VMWare Fusion.  This has been working great and allowed me to get up to speed with Macs gradually.
Now that PSE 8 for Mac is out, I thought I'd give this a try and bite the bullet and swap over to running PSE on the Mac. So now I see that I need to use Adobe Bridge CS4 to manage my photos, keywords, collections etc, as see that there's no 'catalog' in the Bridge - no big deal.
Previously I use 'PSE 4 Win' to run a full screen slide show and sometimes connect my Mac to my plasma TV via PC VGA connector.  I was always amazed at the quality of the photos on both Mac full screen and TV.
Now I getting to know Bridge slowly and love the PSE 8 for Mac, however the Full Screen Preview (or Slideshow) quality initially looks acceptable but on closer inspection and directly comparing the rendering in 'PSE4 Win' with 'Bridge MAC' the latter is more blurred on the edges and the colors look more natural in the PSE4 Win.
I have tried right clicking the photo and 'Purge cache for selection' and looked through Preferences and did try enabling software rendering, and re-started but no difference.  So now I love the new software but can't ignore the poor quality rendering.  PSE8 on the Mac the quality looks better than Brdige (although colors still not that natural), AFAIK know PSE8 Mac can't be used as a full screen slideshow (I can't even find a full screen option)
I running a MacBook Pro new Aluminium for Nov 2008. So just to restate both apps are Mac and Windows are running on same Macbook.
I have attached screen grabs from both (look at the edges of grass where it meets water)  - these are at fit to screen resolution (which is what I'd use for a slideshow or full screen peview).
    The photo is a JPEG 4.03 MB, 3840 x 2160 , res 72 ppi,  application: Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0.

Thanks for the reply, setting 'monitor size previews' has helped a great deal with the sharpness (surprised this isn't the default!)
Colours are still a little different - difficult to tell which is most realistic.
I have attached a new full screen preview.
As an aside, in desparation I did try out some of photo viewing software on Mac platform in comparison.  Adobe Lightroom 2, Aperture, and Picasa all render fairly simarily, however XNView renders very close to PSE4 on Windows platform - in terms of sharpness and colours.  I quite like the Bridge interface so I think, I'll stick with Bridge.

  • Canon 5D3 raw file in Lightroom3

I bought a Canon 5D3, the raw file will not open in Lightroom3?

    Hi #lightroom3
Canon EOS 5D Mark III  is not supported with Lightroom 3, if you want to use Lightroom you  with Canon EOS 5D Mark III you need to upgrade to Lightroom 4.
Canon EOS 5D Mark III is supported on Lightroom 4.

  • Nikon D7000 LR4 Camera Raw color issues

    I just upgraded my camera from a Nikon D70 to a D7000.
Problem: When I process the RAW /NEF files with Adobe Lightroom 4 the color is terrible. By that I mean, the images look dull, dark and have no pop. The coloring is not even close to what is displayed on the Nikon camera screen.
When I use Nikon View NX: The software which is pakaged with the camera produces an image which is, or almost identical to the image on the camera after the photo is taken.
I like the funcionality of lightroom better than ViewNX, so what I have been doing is processing with ViewNX and then exporting to a TIFF.  Opening up LR4 and then importing and cataloging.  This process is a pain and time consuming.
I also have found LR3 does a better job than LR4 at processing the images.
Is there a way I can tweak or download corrected ACR settings to match my Nikon D7000.

I have figured out myself the profile correction problem for my Nikon D7000 NEF Problem. It almost match to the one in NX2 or even on camera LCD.  the following is what I have adjusted in my LR4
    Brightness +1.00
    Contrasts +28~33
    Shadow +40~55
    Black -25
Don't Forget change the Profile setting on Camera Calibration under the Develop mode to match the what you set on your camera. I always shot on Standard mode, therefore I set the Profile to Camera Standard.
The following is the way I figure it out.
    1.  I imported the photo under "Zeroed" at Import page under Develop setting > Lightroom Genaral Present > Zeroed
    2.  Open one of the imported picture on Develop mode
    3.  Scroll down to Camera Calibration change the profile setting to match they one you set on your camera, in this case I choose Camera standard.
    4. Under the Camera Calibration>Process you will see 2012(Present), changed it to 2010, and change it back to 2012 (present again)
    5. You will notice that the develop setting automaticly change to the following (Brightness -1.00, contrasts -33 and black +25) Let say this is what lightroom did to your picture( from Nikon D7000 NEF)
    6. and then Change everything back to " 0 " will you find your picture nearly close to the one you saw on NX2.0 or Nikon LCD
If your found the step above is hard to follow, please just change the Brightness +1.00, Contrasts +33 and Black -25, and dont forget adjust a bit of shadow as well.
for the people who dont know what Nikon done to Nikon D7000, please dont be expert to say "you dont know RAW".  please read more reviews first before helping people who are new to RAW or even stuck on RAW.  This forum is helping people with our knowledge, is not to make people need help to get more confuse.
For Nikon D7000 user.... Remember turn D-Lightning off.... this is one of the problem will cause LR4 change your tone to more darker, especially on portrait photoshot. Hopefully Adobe will realease the new update soon to match the new system inside Nikon camera.
Please note that the step above only Apply for Nikon D7000 and Lightroom 4 only. And it is not 100% correct to what you seen on your camera, at least is 80~90% Match!!

  • Canon 5D3 RAW thumbnails

Without upgrading from 10.6.8, is there any way to display thumbnails of RAW images from a Canon 5D3?
Why should I have to upgrade to a newer OS, simply to display thumbnails from a newer model camera?
jpegs display as thumbnails, but not RAW files.  I have never had to upgrade my OS in the past when a new camera came out.
Yes, I have the latest Camera Raw installed.
No, I do not use Aperture or Lightroom.

Thank you for your E-mail inquiry regarding the Canon EOS 5D Mark III Digital Camera.
It appears the OS X you're using does not support the RAW format from this camera model, as per the following Apple website.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3825
You may wish to confirm with Apple at this time, if the RAW compatibility update that they offer is supported for use with your OS.
In other words, Apple does not support the RAW format from a 5D3 with OS 10.6.8.
Since it would be a very simple thing for Apple to do, it is just another case of their hard-sell strategy to force people to buy an upgrade.
If anyone knows of a utility that I can purchase that would convert 5D3 icons to thumbnails in my Mac folders, it would be appreciated.

  • Why is the image not as sharp in library mode then it is in develop mode?

and the image i email reflects the library image/version (less sharp) not the develop mode image/version.

I just open my MBP before plugging up the TB display.  Then after the TB comes on, I close the MBP back into clamshell mode.  Works better for me that way.
Does that work for you as well?

  • D800 / CAMERA RAW SHARPNESS ISSUES

Perhaps somebody else is also having this problem:
I own a Nikon D800, which performs beautifully, but I have hit a snag with it:  If I open its raw files using ACR (for later edition either in Lightroom or Photoshop) even though they contain a staggering amount of detail, they somehow fail to live up to the expectations a full-frame 36MP camera generates regarding image sharpness.
To further illustrate:  I also own a Fuji XE-2, which has an APS 16MP sensor, which, however, offers stunning, razor-sharp images almost every time I press the shutter.  Opening these files in ACR is a delight and you have to edit them much less than the D800 files to get the image you had previously visualized.
However, if I open the NEF files using Nikon's own Capture NX-D software, voilà!  The images look as sharp as they should have from the start in ACR. But, if I export the resulting edit, via TIFF, either to Lightroom or Photoshop, again you feel disappointed, they are too soft:  I did not pay a hefty chunk of my cash for the camera and lenses to get soft pictures.
The gist of the problem here is that Capture NX-D is a fine piece of software but it handles a little stiffly when compared to ACR and introducing it in my workflow would slow things down.
Does anyone have an idea how to overcome this problem to get sharp images from NEF files in ACR?

Nikon has a raw conversion software in their camera and computer-based applications which consists of algorithms and parameters that guide the application of the algorithms to render a JPG.
Adobe has a raw conversion software which consists of algorithms and parameters that guide the application of the algorithms to render the raw data as an RGB image that you see, and eventually save as some file format.
The raw conversion algorithms are proprietary within each company and Nikon parameters that may be embedded in the NEF file are only relevant to Nikon software.  Let’s say the sharpening parameters in the NEF file are +3.  What does that mean to Adobe which has an Amount slider of 0 to 150?  So Adobe ignores the Nikon-specific sharpness parameters.  Until Adobe and Nikon are the same company (as well as Canon and Sony and Panasonic and Olympus and Leica, etc) Adobe will have different algorithms and parameters to guide the raw conversion than the camera manufacturers.  Some day we may live in a society where the state provides all photography hardware and software and everything is the same, but until then, there is competition between various companies and intellectual property rights and patent laws that keep each from knowing exactly what the other is doing.
Adobe converts raw files from many models and brands of cameras.  For the most part they use the same algorithms and parameters for each of these models and brands.
Suppose you work for a photography company with many photographers where some use Nikon and some use Canon and some use Sony, etc, and it is your job to work on each of those raw files.  If Adobe had one set of sliders for Nikon files and another set for Canon files and another set for Sony files, in other words if Adobe tried to do the things as specific to the camera manufacturer as possible, then it would be difficult to work on the raw files across the various camera manufacturers.  If you use Adobe software it shouldn’t matter what brand or model of camera you’re working with, the workflow should be similar and the results similar to the extent the raw data, itself, is similar.

  • Photos change sharpness in library

    Hi there,
something weird occurred. I edited and sharpened photos in LR5, but when I go the the library (or the slideshow), they are the same as before. If I then go to develop again, they appear sharp again. But as it is, won't be able to save them sharp though. Never happened before, have not a clue, what might have happend?? HELP please!! Thank you...

Well are you looking at them 1:1 when you switch? If you are in 1:1 and you switch the images they should be close to identical. You simply cannot judge sharpening in fit or fill mode. The sharpening in Develop is meant to sharpen at the pixel level to correct for acuity loss owing to the lens the Bayer mosaic and the antialias filter on your sensor. It is NOT meant to sharpen at downscaled sizes. For that you have output sharpening in the export panels. When you bring the sharpening (or noise reduction) to extremes in Develop when you are in Fit or Fill, Develop will not be able to give you an accurate preview. Only at 1:1 can it do that. This is an artifact of the way Develop downscales to not make every slider change take several seconds to render but keep it going at an adequate pace.

  • I can no longer "edit in" CS5 from LR4 with RAW files

I can send jpeg files to CS5 via "edit in" but I can't send RAW files. PS is launched but the photos are never opened. I recently upgraded my camera to a Nikon D800, but I can't remember if the problem started just before I upgraded.

I have the same problem. Any solutions?

  • How do I devellop with LR4.4 raw pictures made with X-M1 fuji in RAF format (windows7) ?

That camera requires Lightroom 5.2 or newer. If you insist on staying with Lightroom 4.4 then you will have to use the free Adobe DNG converter to create digital negative copies of your raw files. You can use the latest version of the DNG converter.

  • CS5 and LR4  camera raw upgrade for Nikon D610

I only see the CR upgrade 8.3 for PS6...I have PS 5 and LR 4...does that mean they are not compatable and I must upgrade to both...

If you upgrade Lightroom and install the 5.3RC you could then use your existing Photoshop as the external editor and render a copy with Lightroom adjustments and send that to Photoshop. Or, you could download the DNG converter and use it to create digital negative copies of your raw files. Those could be used with what you already have.

On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 installed?
Like all Premiere Elements projects, the setup of the project plays an important part in the outcome.
What are the properties of the source media that you placed on the Premiere Elements 13 Timeline?
What project preset did you (manually) or the project (automatically) set to match the properties of that source media?
How did you decide to export the Timeline content?
Export to file save to the computer hard drive? If so, please detail the settings....Publish+Share/Computer/ then what? What did you
set for Presets? Did you use the default settings for the preset or customize them under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the preset?

  • Lightroom 4 Bug: can only see photos in Library mode, not develop mode

This may be related to other imported catalog bugs, but does not seem to be quite the same. In Lightroom 4, with an upgraded Lightroom 3 catalog:
    1. Select a photo in Library mode.
    2. Click on Develop to go to Develop mode
Screen shows "No photo selected". I cannot edit photos in Develop mode.
I can see and edit photos that are found in smart collections, but not photos that are simply in my collections from 2012, 2011, etc. folders

This happened to me, too, after importing a couple older LR3 catalogs (upgrading/consolidating). I could see the photo in Library module but when I pressed "D" (single photo selected) I was getting the "no photo selected" error message--for every photo I tried. I wasn't able to open any photos at all in the develop module. (These were photos that were fine before installing LR4 and upgrading.) Photos were from imported LR3 and LR4 Beta catalogs.
I restarted and everything seems ok--for now!
So if you come across this thread with this same issue, restart and see if that helps. (Before restarting LR I optimized as suggested above, which did nothing for the "no photo selected" issue. And this isn't related to the parent folder issue, I left my photos in the same place and didn't have more than 3k photos in any of the parent folders. I read in other threads that people had the issue again after importing other catalogs. I'm about to do that so I'll report back.
