LR4: any AUDIO editing capability - simple (?) enhancement request

First, hats off to the Adobe team for a nice upgrade. I'm still getting used to the new slider layout, but am loving it already. Really nice to be able to pull back the highlights without the image going to crap.
In addition to shooting stills with my Canon 7D, I also shoot the occasional video. I'm just a hobbiest (so don't have the budget for Adobe Premier) but just like to do some simple edits. The new video capability in LR4 is very much appreciated ... but I can't seem to find any audio editing capability - I suspect none exists.
As a software developers, I know the LightRoom team is pretty busy with bug squashing on the just released LR4 ... but a very useful feature would be the ability to export with/without a sound track, merge with an external track, or discard one of the stero tracks and convert the other to a mono signal.
You might ask why would you want to do the later? The reason is the *&^%$#@! Canon 7D (and many other DSLR's) use AGC (Automatic Gain Control) for their audio ... so it basically sounds like crap as the levels wander up and down. Fortunately, there are some 3rd party amps (placed between the microphone and camera) that can "defeat" the AGC by inserting a signal in one of the stereo tracks ... and this way you get consistant levels. So right now, I have to open up the video file with Audicity (which pulls the audio) then delete the one track and use the other as a mono signal. I then save that WAV file, open the video back up in Quicktime Pro, delete the audio track associated with it, and then pull in/merge the previously saved WAV file ... and then finally exporting the combined video/audio.
It would be awesome to do all of my (simple) video editing in LR4, and then simply have an option to fiddle the audio output as shown:
     1. Leave Audio as-is.
     2. Combine Left and Right track into Mono Signal
     3. Delete all Audio
     4. Delete Left Track  (optionally convert right track to Mono Signal)
     5. Delete Right Track (optionally convert left track to Mono Signal)
Again, the AGC "problem" is really because the DSLR manufacturers don't allow you to set audio levels on their cameras - this is fixed in the most recent models and also with Magic Lantern ... the later is unfortunately not available for the 7D. But my approach to "defeat" the AGC isn't uncommon and my hope (PRETTY PLEASE! ;-) is that this simple audio editing capability might be easy to add to Lightroom and worthy of consideration.
Thanks,
alek
P.S. Note that I don't see this impacting sales of Adobe Premier since professional videographers are using off-camera sound and are already buying that program. I.e. this is mostly an issue for us hobbiests that are trying to improve the sound quality on the cheap and Premier is total overkill for this - be awesome if LightRoom could help us out a bit.

Hi,
why must I be editing a package to use the find function!? Has been asked for on numerous occasions, and has been agreed to implement in a future drop.
why doesn't the "describe table" functionality work from within a packageThis too has been asked for, and agreed to be implemented in a future drop.
If you'd have read the sticky moderator posts, especially "Feature Requests", you'd have found this on the SQL Developer Exchange ;-)

  • Can't transfer any photo edited with Auto Enhance.

Ok...I have a TOTAL love/hate relationship with my iphone 4s.  I love the Auto Enhance feature, but once I have enhanced a photo, I am unable to transfer the EDITIED photo to the cloud or to my PC!  Why Not?  This totally seems to be against the Apple advertising which states "you can edit something here, and it appears There" and so on and so forth.   That's just not happening. Apple has tricked us, I'm afraid!!!  I spend a bunch of time cropping and editing photos and then the only place I can view them is in my iPhone?  I'm so frustrated! I've been looking for weeks on end online for a solution, even local iphone experts don't have an answer!  come on !!! HELP!  I'm using a Windows PC with Vista.  If you can give me the right answer, you will be the smartest person I know!  Unbelievable!!!

For your laptop, a lot of computers don’t provide enough power to their USB ports to charge the iPad at a sufficient rate - it may still be charging slowly, and should be a bit quicker if the iPad's screen is off (if you leave it for a while and then disconnect it from your computer you may find that it's battery percentage has gone up). The wall charger is usually the most efficient way to charge the iPad.
If your iPad's wall charger is also not charging it then have you tried a soft-reset to see if it charges after the iPad has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If not then have you tried a different charger and/or cable ? Do you know anybody else with an iPad so that you can try their charger and cable and they can try yours ?

  • Built-In Audio doesn't feed any Audio editing software like Soundtrack.

I am trying to record streaming audio from the internet through the built in audio in and out in the computer using Soundtrack. I can drag wav. files in and they play, I record with the built in mic, it plays, but audio coming internally doesn't show, itunes, internet etc.

The sound being played by applications is not really audio input. Audio input has to be coming from an external source, such as through the built-in mic or the audio input port, or possibly USB/FireWire if you have such a device connected.
You can connect a mini-stereo jack cable to your audio output port and feed it back into your audio input port.
Or you can get a program such as WireTap
    http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/wiretap/
that is specifically designed to record what other apps are playing.

  • My Final Cut Express 2 won't import any audio or export anything

My Final Cut Express 2 won't import mp4s or any audio or export anything. I have been using compressor only. I have recently just changed to Tiger 10.4.11

Final Cut Express does not work with MP4s.  You need to convert the MP4 video to QuickTime DV or QuickTime Apple Intermediate Codec before importing it into FCE.  Which one to use depends on the properties of the MP4 video you have ... basically, if it's standard def 4:3 then convert to QuickTime DV (NTSC if you are in North America, PAL if you are in Eurpope) ... high def 16:9 should be converted to QuickTime Apple Intermediate Codec.
In most cases you can use MPEG Streamclip to do the conversion.
As for audio files, they need to be AIFF, 16-bit (aka 48KHz), stereo.   If they are not AIFF format you need to convert them ... you can use iTunes or almost any audio editing software to convert audio files.

  • Enhancement request: Bulk edit features

As much as I love Apex and think it is the greatest thing since sliced bread (what's so great about sliced bread anyway!), after one gains a certain amount of proficiency with using the tool, one realizes that there are many areas where the Builder application simply gets in your way. You know exactly what you want to do, you know how to do it, but the Apex Builder doesn't support a "do this 20 times" feature!
    For instance
    1. Deleting multiple pages - This came up on another thread recently. The Builder makes you click 2 buttons (Delete and Confirm) to delete a page and then takes you to page 0 (or the previous page or something) and then you need to go back to the next page and repeat the process.
There should be a "delete multiple pages" feature in the Builder
    2. Creating a list - I have a bunch of links/URLs that I would like to create a list from. The Builder interface (tabular form) has us add each list entry at a time.
I would prefer that it has a honking big textarea where I could dump all the links at once and it creates all the list entries at once. I could always go and tweak individual entries if I like.
Same thing for adding to other Shared components like LOVs, breadcrumbs, tabs, etc. I am not saying a textarea-based interface would work for everything, but anything has to be better than doing it one by one.
    3. Access to the Report Column Attributes page - This is too painful to access.
Click on Edit page, click on Report, click on the column you want. 3 clicks!
Instead, there should be a Quick Edit link next to each report column when the page is run that pops up the same page.
    4. Attaching a authorization scheme (or condition or build option or any applicable thing really) to a bunch of components at once.
The Builder should have a nifty search page where we could search/filter (by name, component type, page#, etc) for the components we want and then allow us to apply a an "action" (i.e. auth. scheme) to all the selected components at once. Doing this one by one is error-prone, time-consuming and just plain boring!
That's all that comes to mind at this time, I am sure others will have more.
    Thanks

    Mike: Thanks for responding.
    1. You misunderstand what I wrote about report columns. Marc Sewtz understood what I meant at Re: Enhancement request: Quick edit links for column attributes
is very easy to bulk change (on the back end); the hard part is devising the proper screens for bulk change (font end)
    2. Absolutely, agree 100%. Which is why it might make sense for Oracle to expose metadata manipulation APIs (apex_metadata package similar to dbms_metadata!) so that power users can effect changes to the application metadata without going through the Builder at all!
We talked about this at Bulk edit items
Many of the application reports allow for bulk change operations
Right, but realistically speaking, you can never anticipate and build screens for all the things we would like to do. Which is why a command-line API would be invaluable.
Just recently, I needed to change a bunch of HTML regions' templates in a application from Report Region to Hide/Show template. I couldn't find an application report/bulk edit page that let me do this, it was quite painful to do in the Builder.
Another case in point: I used the "Form on SQL Query" wizard to quickly create a form page with a bunch of fields. But unfortunately, unlike the "Form on Table wizard", this wizard is not smart enough to create page items with a display-as depending on the datatype of the columns in the query. It creates all the form items as Text Fields. :-( There is no bulk-edit page (that I could find) that lets me change the display-as property for multiple items.
If you or others have UI sugestions
    3. As you may know, whenever I think of something that the Apex product could benefit from (an enhancement request IMHO), I post a thread on the forum with a subject line that clearly indicates as such.
    To summarize, here they are:

  • Seemingly Simple Audio Edits Driving Me Nuts

I have asked about this before, thought I had the proper answer, but alas it would seem not.
After joining audio (in most cases for music transitions) into Connected Storyline, I am often then unable to apply a Transition of perform a Roll Edit because it seems there is a space in there somewhere.  I have tried the suggested remedy of Zooming in, using Position Tool to trim both sides of the edit, then deleting the space in between.  It was explained the problem invovles sub frames which aren't always visible.  Sometimes this works.  It seems like there should be a quicker solution (it's especially cumbersome if your edit is otherwise well timed, and you have to re-tweak it once you pull the edges back,) but if it worked consistently I could live with it.
However, far too frequently, the process is not working, and I am redoing it over and over and over again until somehow it manages to take.  I can end up spending 5 to 10 minutes on a simple audio edit, and needless to say, this is just unacceptable.
Can anyone tell me a reliable way to deal with this, or suggest what I might be doing wrong or something different I can try, because this is making me crazy.  There has got to be an easier way.  Any help appreciated.

dont think ive ever been able to get cross dissolves on audio to work. I now use FCPX as I would Logic or ProTools and I overlap audio clips and put manual fades on them. Actually its worth the extra work coz the joins are usually better. and you have ore control.

  • Slightly OT, Audio editing and enhancement tools

    HI,
I know this is a little off topic, but is needed for Audio in CP.
What are the best applications for editing and enhancing any audio in my CP files....is it software by Adobe or Izotope for eample.
I want to get rid of some background noise amp up the volume of the speaker/narrator & enhance the voice tones etc....
I know we have Adobe Audition, but I see that as aminly and editinmg tool rather than the removal of background noises etc, but what do others use for this purpose...?
    Kind Regards
    Ross

Adobe Audition is an excellent tool for removing background noises as well as doing all the other tasks you described.
I think you need to investigate Audition's abilities a little more, as it seems from your post you are still quite unfamiliar with the tool.  There are quite a few good video tutorials about it on Adobe TV.

  • Can anyone recomend a simple quick audio editing application?

I use Audio Hijack Pro to record all kinds of audio ( e.g. streamed radio, skype calls, voice recordings), all these files are then stored in a folder ready for use later. I often need to trim the beginning and end of these recordings in order to cut off bits of silence or superfluous speech, and I have been doing this in Garageband but this is a rather tedious method as each recording has to be a new project.
What I would like is a simple timeline audio editing application that would just allow me to import the file and open it as a simple waveform and cut and splice the bits accordingly. I think (?) that Quicktime Pro used to do this but I only have Quicktime 10.
Can anyone suggest or recommend such an application? Free or cheap would be good!
    Thanks.

You are missing out if you don't use Fission, this is also by Rogue Amoeba. It is integrated fully with AudioHijack Pro for seamless editing.
    Hope this solves your problem.

  • Enhancement requests do seem to be worthwhile in the end...

Having requested the continuous/shuffle music video playback several times in the last 18 months or so, and urged people to do so via...
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html
...it has finally been implemented and I'm chuffed to bits.
Well done Apple, this is a superb enhancement though why so long to implement ?
Personally I feel this was a huge oversight for AppleTV ever since it was realeased, and seriously hindered both use of AppleTV as a media extender and obviated the point of buying music videos unless you watch them on portable devices which I don't.
I had become increasingly negative about the prospect of ever seeing this feature
appear - this cat doesn't wear a hat so I'll have to eat something else instead!
I am now likely to spend a fair amount on music videos at iTunes Store having vowed not to do so again as having to select each one manually to play was tedious to say the least.
Really baffles me how Apple have missed the opportunity for revenue from music video sales via AppleTV, particularly when iPods had the shuffle feature.
As I commented a few weeks ago I think perhaps priorities since 2.0 update have been to get the store up and running properly before implementing enhancement requests or new features.
Very pleased Apple have finally implemented this extremely useful feature, it may not be pointless in using the link above, it just takes time.
So the next thing we should do is think of things to officially lobby for in future updates.
    My top 3 would be:
1 - Allowing connection via USB to rescue data from AppleTV for users who've had hard drive accidents/msihaps and haven't backed up recently - fact of life it happens even if you're careful! Files with DRM are safe from unauthorised use and those without DRM are no less secure than they were before anyway. This could even be done by only allowing AppleTV to dump media to an external USB device instead of allowing an external connection to AppleTV itself, and could be controlled from say a backup menu option. Alternatively full manual bidirectional drag and drop of media via iTunes to/from AppleTV could be implemented with a mode to prevent a new sync library connection wiping existing content.
What's in it for Apple? Huge boost in consumer confidence that Apple allow them to easily recover their personal files in the event of a problem - there should be no need to hack or dismantle AppleTV just to get at your data. Just think of all those people saying thank heaven I had an appleTV as my Macbook died and I'd forgotten to backup those wedding photos etc. We see examples of frustrated users almost daily with this problem.
2 - Additional codec support - it's all very well saying h264 is the best thing since sliced bread and the current Apple/Apple Store standard, but the limited video codec support is probably the biggest hindrance to AppleTV becoming an extremely popular media device. It has the slickest interface of commercial products but many prospective customers have files in long established older formats that are incompatible without prior time consuming and quality degrading transcoding. Locking down AppleTV in this way alienates many potential users. The argument about the source of files in other formats may have some validity, but it is not Apple's job to infer that a user's file is of dubious origin simply for not being in h264 format. I am not condoning filesharing/torrents etc merely saying that most people have older files in older formats they want to use without conversion. Many DVD players allow playback of DivX (never use it myself), and if there's a licensing issue offer playback as a per device plugin option paid for by the user in the same way the QT MPEG2 pluging is offered.
What's in it for Apple? Happy customers who would simply use something else like a PS3 to view their files and not buy AppleTV. New customers who would not have purchased otherwise. Happy customers who no longer need to trasncode files to watch. You'd be happy with being able to use older files, but would also get the benefit of using iTunes Store for new things.
The overhwelming thing would be a sense of 'fair play' gained by the consumer. For me personally since 2.0+ the device's overwhelming iTunes Store based menu design sticks in the craw and has relegated MY content to the bottom of menus. Give us the best of both worlds - an iTunes Store top level section for purchases and separate simple top level sections for combined personal/purchased media as in software 1.0/1.1. In essence declutter the menu system for playback lumping all the purchasing/preview/search options together.
3 - Tricky. Most useful would be an AppleTV SDK and 3rd party plugins/apps via iTunes paid and/or free similar to the iPhone model - I can live without widgets/visualisers/social networking plugins etc but they would be valuable to many users. As far as I know the iPhone Apps have been a huge success - no reason why not on AppleTV too, though commiting to this pathway would probably be very expensive in terms of developing a secure/sandboxed environment for running apps/plugins unless they could port the iPhone software fairly simply.
Anyhow, once again delighted Apple have added the music video feature - I will start buying music videos from iTunes music store again. Bad for my wallet but good for Apple and AppleTV. Perhaps I should be thankful and consider how much I've saved not buying music videos in the last 18 months or so.....
What would you like to see? Some things will be impossible/hardware limited, others quite feasible.
Discuss, but also use the formal feedback link to give enhancements any chance to appear!
Let's all help make AppleTV a success, and hopefully the media extender to beat!

to be honest, adding playlists (or whatever it is) for just music videos is of no use to me.
it is playlists for tv shows that i need. ie the capability of playing episode 1 to 5 of a particular season back to back.
Funny isn't it, how we all do things differently, have different preferences, enhancement wishes etc.
For me it's not really a big chore to watch an episode then to manually start the next assuming I or Mrs AC are still awake!
For episodes of short duration say 5-15 minutes I appreciate this could get annoying, and for longer episodes I suppose we are used to Play All type options on DVDs.
If these are iTunes TV Shows you're stuck at the moment, but if they're say 'home recordings converted for AppleTV' you could theoretically get round it by setting their types to Music Video. Clumsy but it should work.
I'm sure you can see the benefit of playlists/shuffling for music videos that may be 3-4 minutes each on average. I rediscovered dozens of iTunes Store music video purchases last night and thought 'yes, this is one of the big reasons why I bought AppleTV initially' - it did not say anywhere that AppleTV could not do this somewhat logical task - assumptions are dangerous though and invariably you only find out the full capabilities of products when using them.
additional codec support ? i would say there is no chance of this. x264 is pretty standard theses days (if you discount the pirate industry). x264 is even used for HD TV in the UK.
I agree, there's more chance of Tony Blair making a comeback!
Piracy is rife and I do not support it.
My views on fair use of media you personally own are quite different.
It's not the codec/container that's the issue it's how the material was acquired in the first place - it may simply be your home videos, digitised off-air recordings etc that is in a 'legacy' format that you don't want to transcode. We know from the modders that most other SD formats are playable on the current hardware so that's not the issue.
Take say an Elgato EyeTV device - I can record anything off-air, edit and transcode for AppleTV or just transcode unedited automatically. How much more sensible it woudl be if AppleTv simply supported the MPEG-2 transport stream playback rather than wasting time and computing/power resources doing the transcode.
I have some some standard video-CDs I made on a PC in the late 1990's, how nice it would be to be able to play the MPEG-1 content back without fiddling - it's not as though converting to h264 will do anything for the quality!

  • Audio editing across tracks after OMF/AAF import problems

    Hi there,
I'm having difficulty getting my head around the way STP handles multiple-mono audio files.  I'm lucky enough in my job to have a choice of audio editing tools for what I'm working on.  For speech I use SADiE, for more complex projects involving automation I'll often use ProTools & for podcasting I find that STP is pretty good - especially for enhanced podcasts with pictures & web-links etc.
So now to my problem.  I've brought an OMF project, from ProTools, home to work on in STP. The import went smoothly, every thing in the right place & sounds ok.  However, all the stereo audio files are now split across 2 tracks; 1 track for the left leg another track for the right leg.   I can't now edit the stereo content in any easy form.  I've tried using the 'blade all' tool to cut across the 2 tracks, but I can't then delete & ripple the audio.  This leaves me with a gap that I have to manually close.  Needless to say, I'm finding this frustrating as it's making what should be a simple process un-neccessarily long-winded.
Both ProTools & SADiE allow me to group files like this so that they can be treated like a stereo file.  I've looked everywhere, but I can't see a function in STP that does the same.  Am I missing something obvious?  I can't be the only person who's had to deal with files like this can I?
The only workaround I've found is to use the export command to bounce the 2 tracks to a stereo file, however, this loses any existing edits so I can't unpick them if there are problems.
Any ideas anyone?  Can this be done or should I just stick to my other audio tools for this sort of thing?
    Thanks

ProTools uses WAV, in fact it uses the Broadcast Wav standard. The problem is the way it handles files. It still splits stereo files into separate L & R files. It's just that it hides this from the user. When you drag a stereo file in from PT's region list (the equivalent of STP's bin) to the playlist, the two files appear as one as they should do. The downside is that OMF/AAF export still treats them as individual files.
My problem is that I was halfway through an edit when I tried to move it from one system to another. If the edit was complete & just needed mixing, then it would have been less of an issue.
But you're right, there's probably some tool on the net that will solve this issue
    Cheers

  • Error During Creation of  Table Value Request /Simple Value Request Express

    Hi,
I am on SAP CRM ABAP 7.0 with enhancement pack 2.0.
The requirement is to create a decision table which would have value(search helps) requests for some of the condition columns in it. For example, Value Request for condition column Y would come according to condition column X  . As per my understanding, this could only be achieved by maintaining foreign key relationship. So I tried to create a  Table Value Request  which I could assign in the domain values in the data object of the corresponding condition column.
But,when I am trying to create a Table Value Request or Simple Value Request in BRF+ application, it is throwing an error message "Table FDT_EXPR_1950S is not part of the Customizing object FDT0001 T".
Could you please help me out !!

    Hi Carsten,
    Thanks for your quick response.
Just wondering whether or not I can achieve the requirement without Table Value Request. Do you have any idea on this?

  • Enhancement Requests for AWM10g

Hi, before I start in on the enhancement requests I want to say that I am pretty impressed with AWM10g. Definitely a huge step forward in creating AWs. Having said that, I think there are a few enhancements that could be done to the tool to make it even more user friendl.
Note that these are in no particular order, just ones I came up with while using the tool. I'll add any others that I come across.
Please don't take this as nit-picking - just trying to help make it better.
    Thanks!
    Scott
    1. On dimension hierarchy types, instead of "value based" call it a "parent / child based" (thats what everyone knows it as)
    2. When creating levels, allow more than one level to be created at a time (currently it closes the dialog after each level is created, forcing you to go back and choose "create levels" over and over again). This may be as simple as having a "Save and create another" button or something.
    3. When typing names in the "system name" boxes, it would be nice if we could simply type the descriptions using spaces, and have the system name automatically replace with an underscore. Right now its a bit tedious to remember to type all names using underscores.
    4. In "mapping" view, move HELP, APPLY, and REVERT buttons off of bottom status bar and up to the top toolbar. There is lots of unused space at the top, creating a second bar at bottom just eats up screen real estate
    5. On "create dimension" dialog, no need for an entirely separate tab for "implmentation details" (that only has two values - generate unique keys or use the existing keys). Put this on the front tab so users don't have to keep selecting over to it (unless of course there are additional values that can show up there?)
    6. Mapping dimensions with multiple hierarchy - seems odd that we have to remap shared levels. Is it possible to make this where you would map all the values in the first hierarchy, and then only map the "missing" levels in the second hierarchy? Seems like an opportunity for hosing things up
    7. Drag and drop ordering when setting up the dimensions in a cube would be nice. Interface is the same as prior version of AWM (pretty clunky)
    8. Bug - when typing in any "name" field, if you highlight the entire field and delete all characters, under the "description" fields only a single character gets deleted.
    9. When there are multiple hierarchies for a given dimension, some sort of visual indicator of which one is set as default (without having to drill into details of each one)
    10. Its difficult (impossible?) to resize panes (for instance, when doing the mapping). Seems like sometimes I click on something by accident (other than the < and > arrows) that resizes the panes, and then I can't figure out how to get them back (other than exiting and restarting)
    11. When writing template out to same name as one that exists, AWM2 is not giving a "do you want to overwrite" prompt
    12. Some sort of clear visual indicator or message when a dimension is not completely "mapped". I had a dimension where I mistakenly forgot to map the leaf level dimension member. I didn't find out about it until I ran a load and the load blew up.
    13. On the XML logging at the end of a load process, the dialog box isn't big enough to show entire error messages if they occur. Since I haven't found a way to actually write the output to a txt file, this makes it hard to debug what is wrong with a solve.

Anthony - thanks! In the meantime, I've come up with a few more requests / suggestions (and will probably have a few more yet to come...)
    Thanks again!
    Scott
    1) Rather than just showing the "working" bar while a load / solve is going on, would it be possible to replace this with some sort of functionality that queries against the OLAPSYS.xml_load_log table? And perhaps allow the user to click "refresh" or have it auto-refresh at a certain number of minutes so that users can actually see the progress being made?
    2) Since CATALOG view is no longer available, remove the options to have AWM write the log files

  • Enhancement request: Remote interface java file generation

    Problem:
In release 9.0.3, If you want to write a method that is suppossed to be exposed in the remote interface, you have to first right click on the ejb-jar.xml's appropriate EJB name node and then add the method, specify the argument types (say about 25 in number in a small width textbox), return type, etc and check the check box 'Expose in remote interface'. Then only remote interface's java source gets updated and only after doing all this can you actually sit down to write the business logic in that method. If you first code the method and then try to add the same, it gives an error saying "duplicate method exists"
    Suggestion:
The similiar feature in release 9.0.2 was much better and flexible as it allowed the generation of remote interface source after coding the actual method in the EJB source. You can first write the method and then expose it in the interface by just choosing it from a method browser and opting for exposing it in the remote interface. You donot have to write the name and number of arguments like we have to currently do in the 9.0.3 release.
    (1) Actually, all public methods in the EJB source should by default be exposed in the remote interface because EJB are supposed to be used by other EJBs and JSPs only and all methods that are public but not exposed in the remote interface should actually be private or protected.
    (2) Leave it up to the developer to edit the remote interface
    (3) When the EJB source file is changed (public methods changed) compiled the remote interface should also be updated automatically. Why? already you have provision to change the remote interface source, so just dump all the public methods in the remote interface source when the EJB source is compiled.
    (4) Ditto for EJB Homes
    (5) Actually whenever the developer changes and compiles the EJB source, the remote and home source should automatically be updated AND COMPILED. (Refer: Pramati Studio 3.0 SP3 :- URL: www.pramati.com )
I was very happy with the earlier option. If anybody other then the JDeveloper Team finds this interesting, please respond. A suite like developer should be more User-friendly.
And yes expect more like this from me in the future

    Hi Raghu,
Thanks for the quick response. This flexiblity in Remote interface generation and choice of methods in it at any given point in the development cycle is very much desired feature.
The other thing I would like to suggest is you look at another enhancement request in my name regarding batch updates of the "web.xml" file. You will find the thread updated today i.e. on 15th September with a reply
I will shortly post one more for lack of modularity in EJB components descriptors.
My Company Four Soft Pvt. Ltd. (www.four-soft.com) is Oracle's development partner and we use and support Oracle products. They are good but naturally we would like them to be better and more User-friendly.
    Thanks once again.

  • Enhancement Request: Recalculate Sequence Numbers

    Hi
Wherever apex has sequence numbers (for branchs, items, regions etc.), please could we have the ability to recalculate them based on increments of ten so for example items as follows:
    P_ITEM1 - sequence = 1
    P_ITEM1 - sequence = 11
    P_ITEM1 - sequence = 12
    P_ITEM1 - sequence = 100
    P_ITEM1 - sequence = 120
    Would become:
    P_ITEM1 - sequence = 10
    P_ITEM1 - sequence = 20
    P_ITEM1 - sequence = 30
    P_ITEM1 - sequence = 40
    P_ITEM1 - sequence = 50
The option to exclude items with a sequence number of 999 from the recalculation would also be handy. This can become a bit of a pain when a page has been updated many times and you end up with bunching of sequence number so that if something has to be inserted between them, you have to edit a number of items or whatever to make that happen.
If you could do a page-wide or application-wide recalculation - t'would also be cool.
If this feature is available already, please point me to it.
    Cheers
    Ben

The Cleanup feature Paul mentioned is new in 4.0 but fyi in any version component sequence numbers accept non-integer values so you can always insert something anywhere without a need to resequence...Thanks! I never knew that! Oh yes. And they can be negative too. We have some very esoteric looking sequences...
Actually the decimals are pretty useful for things like conditional display of regions. If you've got 3 related but mutually exclusive regions, numbering them 20.1, 20.2, and 20.3 indicates the relationship between them. Which brings me to another enhancement request: regions to have separate name and title properties (like pages do), so that where such regions have to have the same title shown to users, it's a lot easier for developers to tell them apart.

  • OLAP Enhancement request to support demographics

Hi, I'd like to put in an enhancement request to better support demographics in OLAP cubes (see discussion here:
    Demographic Dimensions
    for an example).
I'd like to request the following:
    1. Enable all attributes (not just long and short descriptions) to be displayed through the BI tools (BI Beans, spreadsheet add-in, etc.). Allow these to be used not only as items you can pick dimension values with (i.e. select all shirts with color attribute = green), but allow them to be used as full "mini-dimensions" - i.e. even through "color" is an attribute of product dim, allow me to use it like a dimension (product dimension going down a report, "color" mini-dimension going across...)
    2. Enable aggregation map technology to do calc-on-the-fly to solve totals for the demographic dimensions
Having asked for all this, I'd like to find out if anything along these lines is in the works? I know there is functionality coming out (soon?) for "custom aggregates" - where you can take any random group of dimension values and have it calc on the fly and show up like a normal dimension value. That seems to me to be "very close" to some of the functionality needed (although it doesn't address it 100%...if I have 2 attributes on a dimension (say "color" and "size) - I'd like to put 1 as an across dim and 1 as a down dim....
I know these are not probably "simple" or "quickly achievable" - but I really believe they would add a TON of value to the OLAP functionality.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Deepak,
I leave the ER in. Though the article explains how to include tiles, it requires lots of manual configuration, which I think can be automated.
Functionality wise tiles are similar to the planned region feature (though not 100 % identical)
