LR4 Beta Crash in 64bit

LR4 Beta 64Bit on Win 7
When I check the "Remove Chromatic Abberation" box when in 2010 process the whole thing dies immediately. If I first update the image's process it works well.
Is this well documented?

Wrong place for reporting this. The Adobe LR4 beta forum was linked from the webpage where you downloaded the beta.

LR4 Beta crashes when accessing DNG files

I am experiencing problems using 64 bit Win 7 and LR4. LR4 seems to crash every time I try to "DEVELOP" a dng format image that was created (imported from Raw) with LR3. I am not having the problem with the CR2 or JPG images although my processing speed seems extremely slow. The images were originally created with a Canon 7D or a Canon G12.

It is my understanding that there is a known bug opening DNG files that have previously been developed under PV2010. The bug seems to cause a crash when they are first accessed in the Develop Module. Try fresh images from the camera for testing purposes and see if you get the same crash. You shouldn't, and this will allow you to test the new features and provide feedback.

LR4 Beta Crash on Exit

LR4 for Windows 64-bit crashes on exit and fails to close. I have to manually kill the program in Task Manager. This has occurred each time I exit by clicking on "close window." It does not happen if I close from the menu.

LR5 (non-beta) Crashes when going to Slideshow, System Info

LR5 (the final one, not the beta) crashes 100% of the times I try to go to the Slideshow module. It also crashes 100% of the times I try a simple Help/SystemInfo.
I had no such problems with LR3.x and LR4.x, and my system (Win7 64bit) is otherwise perfectly stable and has all the latest patches/updates). The problem occurs even with a "clean" install of LR5 (i.e. without upgrades or migrations from LR4).
As it is, LR5 is unusable for me. HELP.

Hi Ezio,
Just had a quite similar problem, the installed LR5 crashed every few minutes and always when editing or adding custom text to the slideshow. I had the impression it was crashing even more often when using the 2nd screen.
Workaround: I uninstalled and from the unzipped installation folder, I installed manually the 32bit version (on my 64bit Win7). This 32bit installation now works fine so far.
Just try this to get a working installation. Still a pitty for LR5 to be as buggy as this.... did not know this king of issue with LR4.

Installing LR4 Beta but still keep LR3.5

Hi LR people just a quick question (maybe dumb question)...
Can I install the LR4 Beta and still keep my LR3.5? I presume that I just install it in a different folder in my Applications? Did I get that right?

It will install at /Applications/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.app
The default location for Lr3 was /Applications/Adobe Lightroom 3.app
You can run both applications fine, but while Lr4 is in Beta it will not import you Lr3 catalog.
Personally, for testing, I make a copy of some RAW files I already have in Lr3 then import those to Lr4 to experiment with.

LR4 beta white balance on cropped images

I'm not sure if this has been discussed, I could not find a post with silimar issues.
LR4 Beta 64 on WinVista : Nex 5N raw files
WB picker on a cropped image seems to give variable (and wrong) results
I wanted to tweak WB an image that I'd previously cropped and made some adjustments to....WB was already close, the picker on a white fishing bouy was at ~90/88/91. Clicking the picker on bouy gave a strong red shift, about +5 on the red.
1st time I did it I thought I'd jerked the mouse somewhere, tried it again.. and again with similar results. Repeated several time.
I opened LR3 and had no problems with the same image.
I reopened LR4B and got the same problem again.
Undid the crop and the WB adjustment was fine.
I went back to LR3 and cropepd the same image the same way and WB was fine.
Went back to Lr4B and again, WB was off.
I reset the image so that it had no other adjustments. WB was OK but again when I cropped it it was off.
Opened another image and did the same thing. ie full image WB was OK, cropped I got a +5 or so shift, although this time in blue.
Tried it with a different crop and got a -15 on red.
WB zoom level was at max

Take just about any photo and crop so all the sides are moved toward the middle. It isn't hard to find a point on the image where the white balance dropper looks like it's over a near-grey(and its numbers say near-grey), but when you click, the picture gets an extreme colour cast. And the point where you click doesn't go grey, either, but moves much farther from grey.

Note what's happening in the Navigator preview. It's as if the eyedropper were over the yellow jacket, but the numbers on the loupe show grey.

Smart Collection features I don't see in LR4 beta and wonder why not

I've been playing with the new LR4 beta for all of 10 minutes now, and am disappointed to see that Smart Collections haven't moved forward at all.
Things I'd hoped to see:
In the Edit Smart Collection window, why when you add a new rule does it always default to "Rating"? How is that the most likely thing I want? Sure, make it the default for the first rule, but thereafter, I think it would be a lot more useful if it added another rule of the type on the line you pressed '+' on. That is, if I have a "Keywords...Doesn't Contain" rule and press the '+' button on that line, there's a better chance that I want another such rule than that I want yet another "Rating" rule.
Continuing the previous, I think the second rule added should follow slightly different logic. If the default Rating rule wasn't changed to a different type, the default for the second rule shouldn't be "Rating" again to clone the first rule, but rather pick the second most likely rule type. Does Adobe have usage statistics for people's Smart Collections to draw on?
For Keywords rules, there aren't negative operators to match all of the positive operators. So we have Contains, and Doesn't Contain, but we have Contains All and lack Doesn't Contain Any, and we have Contains Words but not Doesn't Contain Words. You can get the desired effect by nesting the positive version in a "None of the following are true" sub-rule, but this feels clumsy. Either give us a symmetric set of logical operators, or take away the negatives and give a clean way to negate arbitrary rules without nesting rules when not needed.
Nested rule sets aren't discoverable. I stumbled across this feature by accident, and only then because I knew how to do the same in iTunes. I'd rather see a third button to the right of each rule line that gave a way to create a nesting than the current magic Option trick. One of the great things about Lightroom is how discoverable most things are; you scarcely need the manual. This is a sharp corner than needs to be knocked off.
There's still no way to refer to one Smart Collection from another! iTunes has had this since approximately forever. It is very useful to be able to extract common rule sets from multiple Smart Collections and simply refer to it from others. We call this the DRY Principle in programming, and it's a Good Thing.
No new Smart Collection rule types. At minimum, I'd hoped to see rules for megapixels and pixel dimensions. I'd like to be able to find all the pics with a long edge 640 pixels or less, for example. Megapixels is actually less useful, because it can be fooled by high aspect ratio images. A banner 4000 px wide and 100 px tall is "only" 0.4 Mpx, but it probably doesn't need to be any bigger. (Yes, I'm aware of Jeffrey Friedl's plugin. He wants this built into LR4, too. )
We don't even get one new rule having to do with geoencoding. Just off the top of my head, I'd kind of like to have a Smart Collection that found photos taken within 100 feet of my home's lat/long and didn't contain the keyword "home". I have many such Smart Collections in a Collection Set called "Warnings", each of which automatically checks my photos for something that I often forget.
You can't reorder rules or move them into or out of groups. I have Smart Collections with a dozen or so rules, and some with logic nested three levels. When assembling such complex little beasts, it isn't always clear while building it what logic order will give the desired result. You have to iterate, and that often means taking a perfectly good rule and moving it somewhere else. Lacking the ability to reorganize the existing rules, that means creating a new "Rating" rule, changing its type to match, cut-and-pasting the match criteria [if text] and deleting the old rule. Pfagh.
That's enough for now.

・audio codec:speex ( nellymoser ,this problem does not occurs. )

Frequently issues with decoding are specific to particular bitrates and encoding flags. The fastest way to get a resolution is to file a bug and provide a URL or locally-executable example that consistently reproduces the problem. If I have to ask someone to create test media, it will add several weeks to the turnaround as the request will go to the back of the existing queue. I can route complete bugs directly to domain experts for investigation.

Messages beta crashes on launch - the actual solution

since this garbage forum won't let you edit a "solution" even if it is incorrect, i'm creating a competing duplicate topic as a kludge to address the exact same issue. joy.

when you say "(It will restart again but this time it will recreate the missing .plist from defaults)" this appeared to happen, as imagent dissapeared and reappeared with a new PID.

LR4 Beta Win 64bit zip file is corrupted.

I can't unzip the file "lightroom4_p1_win64_011012.zip" downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?event=custom&loc=EN_US&sku=FS0002598&e= labs_lightroom4
I tried three unpacking software but every print the error like corrupted archive.
For expample:
...\lightroom4_p1_win64_011012.zip: CRC failed in setup.exe. The file is corrupt
Or:
0x80004005

I am having trouble getting this file too at its full size, while I can download similarly large files elsewhere OK. Firefox errors every time after a bit with this message:
C:\Users\ssanders\Desktop\lightroom4_p1_win64_011012.zip could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.
Try again later, or contact the server administrator.
But there are plenty of torrent sites hosting lightroom4_p1_win64_011012.zip, so looks like I must take that route instead for now.

LR4 bugs & crashes

Could you please address the following issues:
LR4 crashes:
1.) First and foremost, I would suggest to implement an (optional) automated crash report function.
You will learn a lot about the instability issues that LR4 has.
PS: Suggested reading for the dev team: "Joel On Software" - contains an inspiring chapter on automated crash reporting
2.) LR4 is less stable than LR3.6 when I'm using it for processing Nikon raw files from my D700 with relatively modest resolutions.
Where a LR3.6 session would typically last 2 hours before becoming unworkable, LR4 usually gives up after like 30minutes.
This happens regularly on both an older Windows Vista PC and a more recent Windows 7 machine (both machines have sufficient specs)
This is my biggest disappointment with LR4, when I want to get some work done, I have to switch to LR3.6
If there were a way to provide more details about these crashes, I would do so (see point 1).
3. LR4 is also significantly slower than LR3.6. This may be related to the previous point?

4.) Rename folder
This still doesn't work properly in LR4, tried both Windows Vista & Windows 7
There are a couple of - relatively easy to reproduce - cases where LR apparantly keeps a handle to a folder(search) or file, which prevents LR from renaming the folder.
This usually happens when you have a file selected in LR in the folder that you're trying to rename, which is not uncommon ;-)
You can "avoid" the problem by quickly selecting another folder in LR, while LR is trying to rename the folder.
This does make for a nice mini-game, but it gets old after a while ;-)
(yes, I'm sure I am not running any other software - including Windows Explorer - that references the folder or a file in the folder)
5.) Move file(s)
Suffers from more or less the same problem als "Rename folder"
It's usually the last file that can't be moved, forcing you to remember what you were doing and then move the remaining file again. Quicker to train a monkey ;-)

If you want more bang for you buck, consider breaking your items up into individual posts instead of lumping them into a catch all post. Also, be certain to research and make certain your bug/performance issues are not already in discussion. If they are, add your voice to the thread-don't create a new thread. If you create additional reports for things that already exist, the admins over there will likely merge your requests into existing threads.
Separate your feature requests into individual requests. Make certain they are not already requested and if they are, find them, and click [+1] on the existing request. Add your individual comments as necessary.
I can give you a hint and tell you that each of your five points already exists over there.

I cannot seem to get Messages on my iMac to work at all. Never had any app crash on opening. Cant get to a menu of any kind to do anything with it as it crashes on opening. help? Dont know if Mountain Lion later this summer will fix or not?

Could you tell me a few things please ?
Were you using iChat before ?
After Downloading and Installing the first time did you restart your computer like it said ?
When you downloaded it again did you Uninstall it first from the Messages Menu (Back to iChat) ?
Each time Apple have released a new OS the iChat application has also had a new version.
Lion had iChat 6. Messages Beta is called version 6.1 (it also shows as iChat in several places).
It is likely that the non beta version will be a new numbered version.
At this point try this one thing.
Open the Applications/Utilities folder and find Activity Monitor and launch it
In the list of apps and items running find IMAgent (it will not have an icon as it is a system side support app for FaceTime and ichat/Messages).
Select it then use the Quit button top left
Confirm Force Quit.
It will restart and appear near the top of the list again.
Will Messages launch now ?

Firefox 4 Beta crashes everytime I open it. Then I'm forced to close the program and it won't let me restart it since it says it's already running. Which isn't true. I'm done trying it. Do you guys know about this problem?

Everytime I start Firefox 4 beta it crashes. I usually can visit one site on the web (doesn't matter what site) and then it locks up. The only thing that works on the browser then is the close button. After clicking the close button I'll try to restart the browser and I'll get an error message saying it can't open Firefox because it's already open. Which is a bunch of BS. The only I can get Firefox started again is to restart my computer. This is so frustrating that I've given up trying. Hopefully you guys know about this bug and can do something about it. I wasn't trying to post a question here I just wanted to make sure you guys heard about this problem.

yeah it is the gayest thing that happens :S what i do is turn off the internet, then open it, then turn on internet, then use it. :S OR make your homepage a tab.
