LR4 & Canon 7D Mk II

I have Lightroom 4 and have just bought a Canon 7D Mk II - can I get an LR update to download the raw files without upgrading to LR 5?

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
Unfortunately not.
The 7D Mark II was first supported in Lightroom 5.7. Camera support is never retrospectively added to older versions.
So your choices are:
Upgrade to Lightroom 5 (and ensure you are running at least 5.7), or
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all 7D Mark II Raw files to DNGs then edit the DNGs in LR4

  • Lr4 / Canon 5D II / Tethered Capture / Images damaged in transfer

I am shooting in tethered mode in Lightroom 4. approximately every 40 images the RAW (CR2) file gets damaged for some reason. Image on the card remains in normal conditions.
Would be great to figure out what the issues is.
    System: Windows 7 (x64), LR4 (4.1), Camera Raw 7.1
    Thank you,
    vh

Almost certainly a hardware issue - this kind of problem is generally tracked down to a failing hard drive (that's what caused it for me), problems with RAM, or a something wrong with the card, the reader, or (if the images are being downloaded straight from camera) a USB cable fault, but that seems to be ruled out here.

  • LR4 doesn't recognize Canon 7D in tethering mode

    Hi,
I'm trying to get working tethering mode in LR4 with my Canon 7D and I have "No Camera Detected" in control panel of tethering capture and BUSY indicator is ON on my camera. It works just fine using EOS Utility: I can do shots, change camera settings and so on but I really want this feature inside of LR because of variety of features of LR.
    System info from LR is:
    Lightroom version: 4.3 [865747]
    Operating system:  (Build 9200)
    Version: 6.2 [9200]
    Application architecture: x64
    System architecture: x64
    Logical processor count: 8
    Processor speed: 3.4 GHz
    Built-in memory: 16268.1 MB
Real memory available to Lightroom: 16268.1 MB
Real memory used by Lightroom: 221.0 MB (1.3%)
Virtual memory used by Lightroom: 192.4 MB
    Memory cache size: 0.0 MB
Maximum thread count used by Camera Raw: 4
    System DPI setting: 96 DPI
    Desktop composition enabled: Yes
    Displays: 1) 1920x1200
    Camera Raw version 7.3
    Windows 8 (x64) Pro
Canon 7D firmware version is 2.0.3
Does anybody have any ideas what's wrong?
    Thanks, Alex!

I'm having the same problem with my Canon 7D with LR 4.3 on MacOS 10.7 and 10.8. It worked fine with previous versions of Lightroom but it doesn't now. LR detects the camera but no images are transferred to the Mac. EOS Utility works fine.
I've been writing images to a "Camera" folder from EOS Utility and using auto import in LR as a work around but this causes delays in displaying the image in LR and confuses clients.

  • LR4.4 won't tether to my Canon 50D or 7D; Win7 64 bit

    Hey all,
I had LR3.6, never tried to tether.  I upgraded and now have LR4.4.  I tried tethering my 50D and my 7D, LR wont recognize either camera at all.  EOS Utility works fine.  Same cameras, same cables work on a fresh LR 4.4 install on my wife's laptop perfectly (never had EOS utilites or LR installed previously).
    Both PCs, running win7 64-bit.
I uninstalled LR3 and EOS utilities off the problem PC then restarted, but still no go.  Windows recognizes both cameras on any USB port with any cable, so I have eliminated those variables.  I am at a loss at this point, other than re-installing LR4.  Hoping I dont have to do that and rework several thousand images...
    any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Paul
Some comfort but no solution just a workaround.  Use EOS utility and Autoimport to get your images into LR. EOS utility gives you more control of camera settings than LR as well as live view which I prefer.
Tethered shooting on 7D works fine on this PC W7 64bit (both in LR3.x and 4.4).  I vaguely remember some difficulty in the sequence a while back - I switch on the camera last and wait after everything else is set and connected.
You will not have to rework any photographs if you end up re-installing Lightroom.  Just open your saved catalogue - note where it is first.  The old catalogue should be suggested on any reinstall.
Can you resintall/update the Canon EOS driver as an early and simple step?

  • Why can't I 'edit in PS5' from LR4, with an image taken with a Canon 6D?

I recently upgraded to a Canon 6D. My usual workflow is to import my files into LR 4 (4.3 I think) and do standard editing. I then choose 'edit in' CS5 from the LR menu and normally the image opens up in PShop for more adjustments. I make the adjustments then save and I get two versions of the image back in LR, one as it was and the one I just edited. Now when I do this, PShop opens, but my image doesn't appear. I can see some of PShop on the screen ie the menus and tool bar etc but mostly LR is seen. Have been told to download a DNG converter and update my camera raw software etc and I've tried a few things but nothing is working and I don't know what version of the updates I need etc and what to do. I don't understand computers at all so a basic step by step guide would be good! ...please can you help as I am getting really behind with all my editing :-(
Someone has told me that CS5 doesn't support the version of Camera Raw required to open 6D RAW files...please tell me there is something I can do without having to buy CS6 and LR5 which is what someone on chat on the Adobe website has just told me?
Many thanks, any help would be much appreciated.

Because you are using lightroom, whether cs5 supports that camera model or not is irrelevent, unless you open or place the raw file itself into photoshop.
Lightroom does not send a raw file, it sends a tiff or psd (Jpg is also an option if you use a secondary editor) file to photoshop. Odds are greater that lightroom 4 does not support your camera.
Adobe has a list of camera models that each version of lightroom and camera raw support. It will tell you whether you are up to date, need to do an update. If they are not an option then you can use the dng converter or purchase a newer version of lightroom.

  • Canon 6d - LR4.3 64 bit - unable to upload images

Bought 6D. Can upload images to PS6 and Picassa but not to LR4.3.  LRm.3 displays the images but when I got to import states it cannot read the files.  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Check your Destination specified in the LR import panel.  Not reading the files that ACR and other programs can during an Import USUALLY means that the DESITNATION has a permissions issue, so the error message means “Cannot Write Destination Files” but the error message is generated when something in LR is trying to read the files in the destination and cannot.

  • Canon cr2 files not recognised in LR4.1

I have Lightroom 4.1 running on a MacBook Air with 10.8.1 OS
It is not recognising the files from my Canon 7D with v 2.00 firmware
The files are recognised however in Bridge v 6
    Any solutions?

What is your general work flow? Are you pulling the files directly from the camera? I was having an issue with my new 7D last night where Lightroom insists that it doesn't know what to do with the cr2 files when I was attempting to import them from the camera (Something it happily does with my T3 and has for ages)
However, if I manually dragged the RAW files to their holding directory on the drive myself, and then imported them to Lightroom, everything was just fine.

  • LR4 lens correction. When will canon 10-18mm lens be added

I recently purchased a canon 10-18mm lens. But when I tried to use the lens correction facility I discovered that it was not on the dropdown list of lenses.
Do you know a date when it will be added?

I have a similar Windows version so I can give you specific instructions.  This is how to copy the lens profile for the 10-18 from the Adobe PS location to the Users location so an older LR can see it.
Download and install the DNG Converter 8.7 from:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/   This will put the new profiles at a known location.
Find the profile you want to copy under C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0\Canon and right-click Copy
I think the file you want is:  Canon EOS 50D (Canon EF-S 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS STM) - RAW.lcp
Go to the Users profile location:  C:\Users\Steve\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0\Downloaded
You may need to create some of the folder path, but down through Roaming should exist.  The AppData folder is hidden so you may have to type it into Explorer and hit Enter to get down into it, or type %AppData% into an Explorer address bar and hit Enter and you should be down into the Roaming folder.
Once you are in the Downloaded folder (that you may have had to create) do a Paste to copy the profile over to it, and you're done, once you've restarted LR so it'll see the new profile.

  • Lens profile for Canon 28/1.8 - already installed in LR4?

Hmm, the explanation of lens profiles and how to add them is a little confusing.
When I look here in Adobe's own list of supported lenses, my new "Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM" is listed there:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/lens-profile-support-lightroom-4.html
Does that mean that profile should already be installed in LR 4? (I am running 4.4)
The profile is not showing up in Lightroom for me. (I am shooting JPEG.)
I downloaded the lens profile downloader, and found a profile for this lens, but is that the official Adobe profile for the lens? I installed it but it still doesn't work for me because it is for RAW only.
    Sorry for the newbie question.
    thanks in advance,
    Paul D.

JPG lens profiles are distinct from RAW lens profiles because cameras can fix things with the camera-produced JPGs that the lens profiles also fix and you can get double-corrections by using a raw lens profile with a jpg, but it depends on the capabilities and settings of the particular camera.
If you are sure your camera isn’t correcting geometric and vignetting issues with your JPGs, then you can hack the lens profile you downloaded to use it with JPGs, by editing the .lcp file with a text editor and change the flag indicating it is for raw files from True to False.  I forget what this flag is called, exactly, but it is obvious and near the top of the files.
On Windows, the lens profiles are downloaded to:
    C:\Users\--username--\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\
AppData is a hidden or system folder so you’ll need to unhide such folders in the folder options in Explorer or just type in the path an hit Enter in the address area of Explorer.

  • I have the latest LR4 on a mac-mini with OS 10.9.2.  While I can work with raw images from my Canon 1DX and 5DIII. LR4 does not recognize images from my Nikon Df.  Solutions?

    Are there solutions?

The Df needs at least LR 5.3, ACR 8.3 or DNGC 8.3 to be recognized.  So your choices are to upgrade LR4 to LR5.x and update that to at least LR 5.3, OR download the DNG Converter 8.4 and use it to convert your unsupported NEF files into DNGs that will be supported by LR4.

  • My images from my canon camera are to warm when viewed in LR4

When I load my images into light room 4 the color is not correct. However the color is correct when they are viewed using the Canon software, Tiffen DFX and other programs. My monitor is calibated using Huey Pro. I use a Canon 7D and shoot RAW exclusively.

Could be a calibration or profile or an expectation issue, or even a bug.
Are your Huey profiles ICC4 or something less?  LR has had issues with ICC4 profiles.  Are you using a wide-gamut monitor?  Are you using dual monitors of different models and  calibrations?
Have you tried all the camera-match profiles in the Camera Calibration area?  Adobe-rendering will never be exactly the same as Canon-rendering but the profiles with the Camera prefix attempt to match the Canon rendering insomuch as a profile can do this.
Does the warmth issue happen for tungsten and daylight/flash lighting or more just one of those?
Are you using a custom-WB measured by the camera and using As Shot in LR or something else?
Can you give us a side-by-side screen-shot that shows the LR and the DPP version, and perhaps provide a sample raw file and DPP-rendered JPG for download using www.dropbox.com or the like?

  • Canon iPF printers No Color Correction fix for LR4

Once again because of Canon's use of a special casing file to identify applications that when choosing application manages color printing, set No Color Correction instead of Color in the printer driver, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 needs to be added to the AppColorMatchingInfo.xml file.
This file includes all previous updates and Photoshop CS6
    http://www.dypinc.com/Canon/AppColorMatchingInfo.xml.zip
    The file goes here.
    /Library/Printers/Canon/GARO/Frameworks/GARO_CUPS.framework/Versions/A/Resources/AppColorM atchingInfo.xml
Make sure you save the original in case you want to go back to it.
    Doyle

Lightroom 3.2 final release has the internal name of Lightroom 3 so it is already listed in the AppColorMatchingInfo.xml. That is if you have installed the x300 drivers or have replaced the AppColorMatchingInfo.xml file with my version.

  • LR4 lens profile for Canon 85mm 1.2

Somehow, I have lost my profile for my lens. I have a profile for the 1.8 85mm but not the 1.2. Same goes for the 50mm 1.2. What do I need to do to find them and install them?

To search for lens profiles on the web you have to download & install the <Adobe Lens Profile Downloader>.
And for the installation of that you need first to download and install <Adobe Air>.
Both programs are free and can be downloaded from Adobe's website.

  • Is there a way to edit raw files from the Canon 5DMkIII in Lightroom 2?

I rented a Canon 5DMkIII this past weekend and shot in RAW. I'm running Lightroom 2.7 on my laptop because I have a pre-Intel dual-G5 tower at home and can't run LR3 or LR4 on a pre-Intel chip machine and I tend to share my libraries across my laptop to my tower and back (so I need to be able to open the LR files on both machines, which is why I'm still using LR2 ... I know, I know, I need to upgrade but that's going to be a hefty investment!)... In the meantime, I'm wondering if there's a way to view/edit the raw files in Lightroom? They won't even import (I get the message upon import attempt: "Some import operations were not performed. (97)")... I know the information is there, though, because I used PhotoMechanic to do the initial sort of my images that I wanted to keep/edit. I see there's ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) 6.7 (I think it is) that supports the 5DMkIII, but I'd prefer to edit across the board in Lightroom, it's so much faster. Is there something I can download to still edit my raw files in LR2? Or, do I have to buy the update and get LR4 if I want to edit my 5DMkIII RAW files? Thanks in advance for your help!!

Support for the canon 5d Mk111 was introduced in LR 4, ACR 6.7 so you will have to use the Adobe DNG Converter 6.7 or later to convert the raw files to dng format before you can import and work with the files in LR 2. The converter is a free download from Adobe and is available at this link.

  • Suddenly i am unable to import RAW to Lr4.4. I was able to import just prior to leaving US, but now i receive an error message (if i could update the screenshot, i would)

i have been using Lr for years. No recent changes to my preferences on Lr4.4 or my MacBookPro. When i tried to import RAW while traveling in Vietnam, i receive this error message
"some import operations were not performed"
then there is a list of my import files with the comment "the following files were not imported because they could not be read"
yet i have been importing RAW files from this camera (Canon D5II) for several years.
Thanks in advance for your help

"Could not be read" means that the destination directory, where the photos are supposed to be copied into, does not have WRITE permission.
Change your permissions on that folder.
