LR4 How to view RAW+JPG files?

Hello --
I have been wondering about this for quite some time. I know there is the option to "treat jpg as seperate files" in the library, but i feel it clutters up the library so i tend to avoid this. However, if i treat them as the same, the JPG does get saved into the hard-drives directories, but it isn't visible at all in LR. I understand that this is by design, but what is the point of it then, if there is no way for me to look at the jpg (e.g. for comparison).
so my question: is there a way to see the jpg file, unless i treat it as a seperate file (and hence de facto duplicate the number of images in my library)? what i am looking for, is occasionally being able to view that jpg that has been saved to the directory.
thanks in advance for your reply.
patrick.

i agree with you and understand your point. my problem is that the auto-stacking doesn;t seem to work all the time properly, and i would have in that case to manually go through a rather large set. i am wondering if i may just be best off importing the files as the same and not seperate since this will ensure that the jpg's are at least archived. if i then need to look for one, i can always somehow grab it out of the catalogue. not exactly ideal, but may be adobe eventually will make it easier to access the jpg....

  • How can I quickly view pdf files like I can do with Windows Picture and Fax viewer for jpg files?

How can I quickly view pdf files like I can do with Windows Picture and Fax viewer for jpg files? I need to look at several thousand PDF files. It takes too long to open each one individually. The only thing I could think of is combining them into large groups and then using the Navigation index. But I like the way windows Picture and Fax Viewer does it because you can keep the files separate. Combining PDFs causes loss of individual file names. That would be a problem since I do need to have the individual file names.

Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is a DLL and is started via a rundll32.exe call and can't be set as an application to handle images in Firefox 3 and later versions.
Try to set Windows Picture and Fax Viewer as the default viewer in Windows, then it should be listed automatically in the Mozilla Firefox Browse dialog.

  • How to view a PDF file

Hey, i was wondering if anyone knew how to view a PDF file in Java? I'm trying to make a button that will open a PDF file. Is there any other way without downloading an extension?

The thing with downloading extensions is that they are not free. Some are trial version. iText and Jasper are probably free and stable to a great extent. Plus they allow you to play with PDFs, Excel, Bar charts, Pie charts, CSV etc etc without the hassles of the heavyweight Swing.

  • How to view ALL my files in my iPad?

    Hello,
How to view all my files in my iPad because the "others" in my iPad is taking a lot of space.
    Thanks

If you just want a listing, you can do this:
    select owner, object_type, object_name
    from   dba_objects
where  object_type in ('VIEW','TRIGGER','PROCEDURE');(you don't want to see functions or packages?)
If you want to see the code for these types, an easy way is to use the package dbms_metadata to display them:
    SQL> select dbms_metadata.get_ddl('TRIGGER','ORDERS_TRG','OE') from dual;
    DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL('TRIGGER','ORDERS_TRG','OE')
CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER "OE"."ORDERS_TRG" INSTEAD OF INSERT
    ON oc_orders FOR EACH ROW
    BEGIN
       INSERT INTO ORDERS (order_id, order_mode, order_total,
                           sales_rep_id, order_status)
                   VALUES (:NEW.order_id, :NEW.order_mode,
                           :NEW.order_total, :NEW.sales_rep_id,
                           :NEW.order_status);
    END;
    ALTER TRIGGER "OE"."ORDERS_TRG" ENABLE

  • How to separate RAW+JPG after import?

    Greetings:
Is there a way to separate jpg files from a collection of RAW+JPG images after import?  They were imported without checking the "treat raw + jpg files separately" box in preferences.  Having worked with them, I would like to simply separate out the jpg sidecar files and quickly post the jpgs.
Is there a way to do this?  I've tried changing preferences and re-importing from the combined image folder to another folder, but the resulting jpgs don't show up as files in Finder.
    Platform: Mac
    Software: Lightroom 4.4
    Thanks,
    Mike

I'm looking for a solid solution within Lightroom too.
Until that time, maybe http://www.robcole.com/Rob/ProductsAndServices/RawPlusJpegLrPlugin/ can help you?

  • How do I open jpg files in camera raw?

I have read in numerous articles that I can open jpg files in ACR from within Elements 11. They all state to go File>Open, then browse to the jpg you wish to open, select Camera Raw from the file type and select the jpg. When I select the Camera Raw file type then all the jpg images disappear in the selection area or if I click the jpg first and then select Camera Raw and open then it says file not found. Am I doing this wrong or are the articles I am reading incorrect?

    Hi Majortipper,
In Elements 11 go to File menu >> open as .
It will open a file open dialog where you have a "format" drop-down instead of format menu.
In Elemens 12 this "open as" is replaced with "Open in camera raw"
    thanks,

  • How to open a jpg file with Adobe Camera Raw

I know it is possible to open a jpg file with Adobe Camera Raw using Bridge but is it possible to do this using PSE7?  Thanks.

Yes. In the editor, File>Open As, and choose camera raw as the format. John Ellis also has a script for doing this directly from the organizer, but I don't have the link right at the moment. Hopefully he'll be along with it sooner or later.

  • How to open a jpg file in camera raw in Photoshop CC (2014)?

I know i can do it via bridge but do i also have some option than using bridge?

You can open a jpeg or tif into camera raw from photoshop by using:
    File>Open As>Camera Raw (windows)
File>Open and change the Format to Camera Raw (mac)
You can also open any open document into the camera raw filter
    Filter>Camera Raw Filter
If you want all jpegs or tifs to always open in camera raw, you can go to Photoshop(Edit)>Preferences>Camera Raw
and set Jpeg and Tiff handling to Automatically Open All

  • How to handle RAW+JPG?

    Hi guys,
Just downloaded LR4 trial, and there is something I can't quite figure out.
I have a lot of RAW+JPG pictures (shot as RAW+JPG or previously converted from RAW to JPG with other programs), when importing them to Lightroom, I can choose to treat them as the same picture or as separate pictures.
At first glance, they should of cause be treated as the same picture (because they are the same picture), and they do indeed appear as "RAW+JPG" in LR, but how do I:
    - View the JPG? (not critical, but it would be nice to be able to compare the JPG with the LR results)
    - Add metadata (tags, title, caption, etc.) to the JPG file and not just the RAW file? (I have enabled "write metadata to file")
If treated as separate pictures, they behave as one would expect, but it is not that convenient to have two of the same pictures side-by-side.
    - Can I auto-stack RAWs and JPGs?
    - Can I write metadata (tags, title, caption, etc.) to the entire stack in one go?
And please don't give me the same answer, I keep reading over and over again, when other people ask the same question: "Why would you have RAW and JPG of the same image?" That is not the question, but I will answer it anyway :-)
    1. I need JPG versions of my pictures for e-mail, web, viewing on my TV etc.
    2. I REALLY don't want to be dependent on LR in the future. If I have spend hours and hours fine tuning my pictures, and only have them saved as RAW, I would need LR till the day I die. And it doesn't end there, my kids, my grand kids and so on, would also need LR to view the pictures (at lease in the quality I would like them to be viewed).
    ~Frank

That was also my feeling, that Lightroom's support for such is pretty little.
Because it is not LR's concept.
    Frank,
what you could do in order to further make up your mind to which extent LR might suit you:
Use an alternative picture viewer (e.g. Irfanview) to compare JPGs.
Copy your existing JPGs to a folder, but do not import them into LR (that means do not LR have creating pointers to them and records in the catalog-database).
Import your raws into LR (that means you need to have some safe storage space for the image files themselves), and do your developments there. When you think you are ready, export** them as full-sized JPGs, renamed e.g. by a suffix -LR, into your JPG-folders. Do not add such export to your LR catalog.
Use the alternative picture viewer to compare how you did, compared to your camera's auto-conversion.
To further ease your mind regarding dependancy on LR: most of your develop settings can be written back to the raw file's xmp-part (that is a sidecar-file for a proprietary raw format such as Nikon's .NEF or Canon's .CR2, or embedded for a DNG, PSD or TIFF).
This xmp can be read by many other other programs.
So you would have your raws enriched.
Plus you could decide to store your exported JPGs *forever*.
    Pretty independant from Lightroom, no?
Should you want to ultimately rely on raw-conversion results, I would go for different software, e.g. DxO.
    Cornelia
**exporting means: LR is making use of its records as rendering instructions and writes a completely new file, in the format you specify for this export, e.g. JPG.
LR is a database, that contains records ABOUT images. It reads from them, it writes to their xmp-part if tell it to do so (choice is continuously or upon separate command for selected images), it can write other output, e.g. a PDF working as a slide show, a web gallery, a print, a book.
