LR4 not identifing duplicates?

Hi!
I just upgraded to LR 4.0 and the  identify duplicate function does not appear to be identifing duplicates.
I was cleaning off cards and wanted to make sure all the photos had been added to the catalog  when I realized that photos which have been imported, will reimport.
The "don't import suspected duplicates" box is checked.  I verified one photo, _img_2597.cr2 , was both on the card and in the catalog.
LR4 re-imported it - putting a duplicate in the catalog.
I then added some new photos to the catalog and then tried to re-load them: the detection of duplicates worked.  It apears that photos from the 3.6 catalog are the issue.
I have:
rebooted the system
opened up a backup catalog
synchronize folders
All to no avail.
Any ideas.
Thanks!
Paul

Here's where I came out: the duplicate function does not work for photos
added under any version prior to LR 4.0 (for me).  The cause doesn't matter,
whether it is a conversion bug or a bad catalog, I'm still in the same
place: the function doesn't work.  After looking at the data base tables, it
appears that the data base design doesn't store the individual elements
which would allow the key field, importhash, to be re-created.  I have yet
to read of anything where adobe would acknowledge that they have a design
issue followed by an implementation issue.
You may want to try to rebuild your LR4 catalog and see if that helps.  You
can also download SQLite and take a look at the tables (use a backup) to see
if the field is being populated.
Sorry I couldn't help more.
Paul
PS If anybody has any other suggestions please offer them up.

  • LR4 import dialogue box does not recognise duplicates (and then it does)

I have a strange problem. Since I upgraded my LR3 catalog to LR4 I have had trouble with the import dialogue box not recognising duplicates and thumbnails but if I cancel the import and try again it all seems to work.
The problem: I have the ‘Don’t import suspected duplicates’ option selected on the import dialogue however when I open the dialog box any duplicates on the memory card are still shown and often the thumbnails only show for the first 20 – 50 photos.  When you cancel the import and open the dialogue box again the thumbnail images start popping up and all of the duplicates start disappearing from the dialogue box until they are all gone.
The situation: I am using a retina MacBook Pro running the latest version of OSX, although the problem first started when LR4 was released and I was running it on a c. 2008 Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro. I import a range of files from iPhone photos through to Canon 5D Mk III photos using a CF/SD card reader as well as plugging straight in to the iPhones with a USB cable.  My catalog is currently sitting at around 70,000 photos.
When I got the new retina MacBook Pro and first installed LR4 I copied across my catalog files and photos etc and this problem did not exist.  It started happening again after I copied across all of the hidden system files (presets, keywords, preferences etc.)
    Any ideas much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Nigel.

    Hi Pitmonkey,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
If you are having issues with your iMac automatically ejecting disks, I would suggest reading over and following the troubleshooting steps in the following article. I know there are references to an external SuperDrive but the troubleshooting is for built in SuperDrives as well.
Apple Computers: Troubleshooting the slot-loading SuperDrive
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2801
Accepts discs but they don't mount or are automatically ejected
Make sure the drive is not placed upside down. The aluminum enclosure should be facing up as shown in section 1.
Check the disc's surface for scratches and dirt, since these things can prevent the disc from appearing on the desktop.
Connect the MacBook Air SuperDrive directly to the computer's USB port instead a USB hub.
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
Ensure your drive can read the specific type of disc being used. The System Profiler or System Information may provide additional information regarding what media your computer supports.
OS X Snow Leopard v10.6 or earlier: Open Apple System Profiler by choosing "About this Mac" from the Apple () menu. Then, click More Info.
OS X Lion v10.7 and later: Click the Apple () menu and then hold down the Option key. Choose System Information from the menu.
If the disc continues to not be recognized, contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store.
    Have a great day,
    Joe

  • "Do not import duplicates" is not working

The "Do not import duplicates" box is checked for all imports but is not working.  This is both for my Nikon DSLR, my Canon S-95 and my iPhone. This was happening with both Snow Leapord and Lion as operating system.  I have been using Aperture since the first release and only in the last few months has this been an issue.  Any thoughts?

There's a known (and old) bug when duplicate identification fails on photos
that have been imported from another catalog.

my birthday events for only some of my contacts are showing up twice in my iPhone. They are not showing up twice tho on my iMac. No, I do not have duplicate names in my address book either. Any idea how to fix that?

I have uploaded the InDesign file so that you can take a closer look at:
    http://www.hsdesign.comuf.com/downloads/
    The file is called "Template_File.indd"
So, as discussed the main issues are:
    1) The TOC doesn't generate all the listings (only those with the applied paragraph style "Heading 1 - Appendix")
    2) When I try to create a new pargraph style and apply it to existing or new text, it reads the pargraph style in the Paragraph Style menu, but the style doesn't actually apply.
Hopefully you can figure something out from this. I really appreciate your help.

    Hi Naresh,
Thanks for reply. Correction instructions from this note refer to METHOD MODIFY_CONP_ADDRES which doesn't exist in crm7.0.
I can see in CRM that contact person is replicated and is present in BUT000 but table BUT052 is empty for this contact.
What is more we have implemented in our CRM note 564538  To change Contact Persons grouping replicated from ECC to CRM.
But also have: Note 757955 - Incompatible change concerning CRMC_BUT_CALL_FU.
    We checked as well

Note 836353 and run reports to find inconsistencies in tables BUT052, BUT051, ADCP and ADRVP. However no inconsistencies were found.
Thanks in advance if you have any other idea.

  • Aperture Not Recognizing Duplicates When Importing From iPhone. PhotoStream is Involved.

Apple makes great software. Aperture is not some of it.
    Here's my setup:
'11 MacBook Air OS X Lion
    Aperture 3.2.2
    iPhone 4 ios 5.0
1.5 TB External Drive. Aperture Masters and Library reside there, separate from each other.
I keep my photos in a structure such as: Aperture Masters > Year > Month > Date > original_photo_name
I'm running into trouble with Aperture not recognizing what photos are duplicates when it comes time to import photos. My workflow is that I'll import photos every so often, leaving them on the iPhone, and delete them twice a year.
    ISSUE 1 (The Annoying One):
Aperture is showing a lot of photos that have already been imported even if I select "Don't Import Duplicates". Aperture has done this for a long time. I know that when it comes time to importing them, it doesn't import the duplicates, but this is just a sign that something doesn't work very well. (Maybe it's because I switched to an iPhone 4S and then back. I synced all my photos, and then back again to my iPhone 4, so the sequential number of the photos remained intact. I don't think that's the problem though.). This is just a minor annoyance that shows that Apple can suck at software (remember MobileMe?).
    ISSUE 2 (The serious one):
short version: Some photos on my iPhone won't sync to my Aperture library because it thinks they've been synced through PhotoStream. They are not in my Aperture Library or in my Aperture Masters in the filesystem. How can I fix this. What bloody file do I have to delete for Aperture to stop being confused?
longer explanation: When iOS 5 came out, I was excited by PhotoStream. I had enabled it on my MBA, through iPhoto (I hadn't installed Aperture on it yet, as I was using an iMac to manage my Aperture Library). I believe it synced a bunch of photos from my iPhone, but then I stopped using it on my mac. Left it on on my iPhone. Installed Aperture. I initially enabled PhotoStream but swiftly disabled it once I was not sure how it would deal with photos being uploaded from my mac etc - just seemed like too much magic was going on. I then proceeded to sync my iPhone, not importing duplicates, and it synced a bunch of photos, but didn't sync some of them, displaying the following message:
Any tips on how to fix this and be able to import those images would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. - I thought that iPhoto might be causing the problem. I checked there and there were some images imported through PhotoStream, but not some of the ones which were not imported on Aperture. Putting that another way: the iPhoto library accounted for some of the images that were not imported, but not all of them. I deleted the iPhoto Library and tried reimporting with Aperture. Still no luck.

I have precisely the same problem. Very annoying. Worked fine with iPhoto, borked with Aperture 3.

  • Java -jar Test.jar  option is not identifing the CLASSPATH on UNIX BOX

    Hi All,
    java -jar Test.jar
I am trying to execute Test.jar file using -jar option. I am able to excute the Test.jar file but it is not identifing the CLASSPATH set for other JAR files which is used in part of Test.jar. Saying java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: for the class which are set in CLASSPATH.
The same is able to identify the CLASSPATH if i excute the Test.class file directly with out -jar option like
java Test. In this case everything is working fine.
Can any one tell me why it is not identifying the classpath if i use or execute with java -jar Test.jar option.
    Thanks,
    sha

When you use the -jar option, the only classpath that is used is the Class-Path in the manifest file of the jar. If there is no Class-Path, then only the jar is searched for classes. If there is a Class-Path, the paths must be relative to the jar file.

  • Do not import duplicates-BUT DOES

I had exported all of my images that had Keywords added to them to 'start over' my library. I imported those back to establish my base library. All is good. I then went back to my non-keyword tagged images, many of which are those that were imported with keywords. Even though Do Not Import Duplicates is checked, duplicates get imported.
DSCF1046.jpg (tagged with 'Me') is in library, go to folder with the un-tagged image DSCF1046.jpg (I don't shoot RAW so it's not that issue) and it gets imported.
Is it not considered a duplicate because one has IPTC data embedded and the other doesn't even though they are named the same?
    OS 10.6.4, Aperture 3.0.3

Duplicate detection is imperfect. It usually works, with the proviso that you must be importing into the same project where the files already exists. That said, it's not 100% perfect.
My suggestion if you're importing from the same card multiple times is to use "check none" and then manually select the files you want to import. Takes a few seconds but then you know the right thing will happen. I do this all the time when I'm traveling and I want to have a couple backups of my images in a couple places: On the memory card is one of those backups so I shoot until I fill them; often across multiple shoots and downloads.

  • Do Not Import Duplicates

    Hello,
We are using Aperture 3.3.1. and we noticed that the import system with 'Do Not Import Duplicates' ins't working very well.
When we put some pictures from our SanDisk CompactFlash 8GB card on our iMac with Aperture we first have to wait to finish the preview function.
Than after we imported the images we used a second Sandisk 16GB SDHC card, here are the same images but we made a few on this card tha is not on the Compact Flash Card. But when we put our SDHC card in the reader Aperture shows all the images?? It is not regonize that the images from the CompactFlash card are the same as on the SDHC card?? Very strange, but also very ignoring.
We use a Canon EOS1Ds Mark III and when we make pictures we use the option 'separate storing', that will give us the safety of our images.
But sometimes 1 card is full and the camera go's on the one who has left the most storage.. That's how we come with this problem in Aperture.
Does somebody has the same experience? And is there a solution?

You may have a problem with a corrupted preference file. If you have the "Do not import duplicates" option checked, Aperture should not show the files again, that it already imported from the card.
I'd suggest you quit Aperture, if it is running and remove the file "com.apple.Aperture.plist" from the Preferences folder in your user library to the Desktop and then try if the problem still persists.
In MacOS X Lion the user library is hidden. To open it, use the Finder's "Go" menu. Press the "Go" menu entry in the main menu bar and hold down the "options" key, until "LIbrary" appears in the drop-down menu. Select the Library, then navigate to the "Preferences" folder, and remove "com.apple.Aperture.plist".
Report back, if this does not help.
    Regards
    Léonie

  • Do Not Import Duplicates simply does not work any more

    HI There
I've been using Aperture from the beginning, and this always worked before:
I have a single folder for each month's imports
    1. copy files via card reader to folder for month on firewire 800 drive
    2. load Aperture, choose Import, Leave Files where they are then select do not import duplicates - it imports files
Later I will download another card to the same further, and follow 1 & 2 above.
Now, no matter how many times I do it, it simply shows ALL the files in the folder, and will import them all again, creating new versions each time.
Clicking on and off the do not import duplicates check box has no effect whatever.
    What's UP!
    all the best
    JonoSlack

I have also just run across this Jonathan. This feature always worked before for me. I had some previously imported images on my CF card in camera along with new ones and it now takes all images even with the "Do not Import Duplicates" checked.

  • 'Do not import duplicate images' does not work

For some weird and frustrating reason, the 'Do not import duplicates' checkmark doesnt seem to be functioning. Over the past few weeks, I have ended up importing duplicate and triplicate copies of images even though the checkmark on 'Do not import duplicate images' is checked. I dont know why this is happening.
My import settings are customized, but then this was done long before i started facing this problem.
I usually dont delete images till my card is full, and this results in duplicates before everytime I import images from a new shoot, images from the previous shoot also get imported, unless I manually deselect them.
Any help on this would be appreciated.

    Leonie,
Yes I rename my files while importing. But I have been doing that for a while now, didnt face this issue earlier. Not sure what you mean by 'Signature'?.
I upgraded to ML a few days ago, so my sys config is MacOS 10.8 & Aperture is 3.3.2 (I've been facing this issue even before i upgraded to ML, so I dont think its related to ML).
I always import directly from my camera (i.e. card) and this issue seems to have cropped up somewhere after the release of Aperture 3.3.
Also, I have sent f/b to Apple on this issue (n vow, they seem to be collecting customer profile data thru this f/b. Look at the number of irrelevant questions they have).
    cheers, Bhaven

  • Aperture 2.1 does not honor "do not import duplicates"

  • Can't import with "Do not import duplicates"  checked

When I import photos from my camera, I always use Do Not Import Duplicates/Apply to All. Lately, however, when I do this, the import stalls- the progress bar goes gray, and nothing happens. I have to Cancel, then start the import again, and import all duplicates. When I do this, the import works.
What might be causing this? It's a pain to have to bring in these duplicates over and over.
    Thanks.
    BC

It is a bug in the software, do a search of older posts. This happens to me when the memory card is quite full. There are several options.
    1) use the application image capture
    2) clear your memory card after you download (no duplicates)
    3) use Finder and open the memory card sort the list of photos by date and select and drag the desired photos to iPhoto
    Hope this helps

  • How does, Do Not Import Duplicates, work?

Here's what I found in the user manual. (how about that, I read the manual before someone pointed it out to me)
Aperture checks the filename of the master to determine if an image is a duplicate of one in the library.
Aperture is checking the filename of the Master. So, if you always rename Masters, then this feature wouldn't actually do anything. Correct?
What if you are importing an image which happens to have the same filename. Perhaps you've reset your camera's naming feature. Or your importing from a different camera (probably same manufacturer) that happens to be a the point of overlapping, default names?
Does it actually check the entire Library? I wondered since the option is in the section where you are picking the Project to store them in. It makes me think it's only looking in one particular Project.
Either way, I'm not sure this is such a great feature. I'd rather have duplicates, as opposed to skipping files it thinks are duplicates.
What's the best way to utilize this feature?

The user manual says that Aperture checks the filename. I'm not exactly sure what that means.
I imported a couple of images. I changed both the Version and Master name. Then, I used the Batch Change command to change the time zone, so the times were different.
I then tried to re-import the same images. If I checked Do Not Import Duplicates, Aperture hid the images I just imported. If I unchecked it, I could import the images. I left it unchecked and imported the images.
I wound up with duplicates. Even though the Version name, File (Master) name and Date fields for both duplicates were different.
So the feature appears to work pretty good.
My issue is, since I don't know how it works, I'm not sure how to use it.
My concern is that if it's checked, Aperture hides duplicates, so you have to uncheck it to see what Aperture thinks are duplicates. It would be nice if Aperture showed the images it thought was duplicates, but had them grayed out with no way to check the import box.
It would be nice to know how this feature works. How does Aperture decide what makes an import you are about to import a duplicate, or not?

  • "Do not import duplicates" is greyed out

When importing pictures in Aperture I cannot select the "Do not import duplicates" (nor the "Automatically split projects").
Any reason I can't use these settings?
    Thanks...

OK, it seems that if I remove the SD card from the computer and put it back in, Aperture works like a charm.
I use a simple program to delete bad pictures from the card before doing the import into Aperture and that seems to confuse Aperture. There are many other little problems Aperture was giving me. By removing the card after deleting the bad picture and puting it back, everything works fine.
