Newly installed LR4 is blowing up when I try to print a photo. I am running iMac OS X Lion 10.7.3.

  • Printing problems with Lion and Lexmark T630

I have a Lexmark T630 b/w laser printer with USB and IP connectivity.
With 10.6.8 I could print happily over Ethernet to the printer from iMacs (wired), mini (wired) and MBP (wireless).
With Lion on one of the iMacs and on the MBP I can't print over Ethernet.
The print queue shows a job 'Supply levels' in the print queue and does not print.
The printer is activated and this job appears as soon as I select the print dialog in apps (not actually select 'Print', just opening the print dialog).
I moved the printer to be USB connected to my Airport Extreme and get the same symptoms, except the 'Supply levels'  job prints a single line of symbols (mainly Spanish characters with some other symbols and ending in 2 smileys. It is always the same set of symbols, so I get this one line of junk on a page and then my print  job prints. Note that the T630 has *never* displayed supply levels in any version of the OS.
    The line printed is below.
This always happens from the Lion machines and does not happen from the other iMac which is still running 10.6.8, or from a mini which is connected on another network to the network port of the printer.  The mini is also running 10.6.8.
I have downloaded the latest Lexmark drivers from Apple and also from Lexmark (same version of driver either way) and it makes no    difference.
I can't find anything on the Apple Support site or the Lexmark support site.
It definitely looks like an issue with the printing system in Lion - both the phantom job and the activation of the printer as soon as a print dialog is opened.
Anyone have a fix for this?

The phantom print job will be a Postscript file to check the printer status. This process has been around since 10.5 but it usually is responded to silently by the printer rather than it sitting in the print queue. If you don't have the Supply Levels menu in Options & Supplies for this printer in Snow Leopard then it would suggest that Lexmark has changed the PPD for Lion.
So you could try creating another print queue on Lion but this time selecting the Generic Postscript driver included with Lion. This should let you print but provides few options. It it does work then at least you have an easy workaround.
Another possible fix would be copying the T630 PPD from Snow Leopard and replacing the T630 PPD in Lion. The PPD for both OS's are stored in /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources. With the SL T630 PPD copied, you can open the CUPS web page in Lion and select to modify the T630 queue. From this page select the T630 printer and from the next page change the Adminstration drop menu to Modify Printer. You will be prompted for your Mac admin user name and password. After entering these details you see the first page showing the print queue. Select Continue and probably Continue again until you see the page where you can change the printer make and model. Here is also the section to browse for a PPD. Browse to the T630 PPD from Snow Leopard and then press Modify Printer. Now you can see if all that effort was worth it.

  • Printing problems in Lion - Broken pipe

I am having problems with printing from Lion, particularly to some HP printers in my office network.  I have tried removing and then adding the printers, have tried printing with JetDirect, as an IP, and just letting Lion decide.  The jobs seem to be sent, but never make it there.  Below I've posted a screen capture of the most recent error I receive.  One other interesting problem with one of these printers is that despite the fact that it is a duplexing printer, I cannot select the two-sided option in any of the dialog boxes that come up from any application I've tried so far (the selection is grayed out).  That includes Acrobat Pro, Preview, Word, Illustrator, and a host of others.
    Advice welcomed...

    Thanks for your quick response.
Regarding queue name, in my case I think is correctly configured, because I can read it in the IPP request (Something like this - //ip_address:631/printers/PRINTERNAME) on log file, but I didn't paste all entries in this post due to its size.
I already suspected in backend ipp binary, because I found more people reporting similar issues with it and mostly because in Windows is working without any problem and in my cups error log I had this two entries that seems to me some kind a bug:
    Backend returned status 7 (unknown)
    printer-state-message="/usr/libexec/cups/backend/ipp failed"
Seems that ipp is returning an unknown value for some reason.
I have tried to downgrade ipp binary, but I didn't find a previous version that works correctly in my environment.
unfortunately, my router only supports ipp, In past I have tried with success LPR but with other router and other a HP printer through parallel port.
    Best regards,

  • Lexmark printer problems with lion

I have a Lexmark E460dn monochrome laser printer that worked before I got my new MacPro (Lion). The printer is in a LAN at home and an iMac on 10.6.x can still print to the printer so the printer is functioning.
With this computer, I see the printer being looked for, then am getting an error of "Print file was not accepted" and then the printer pauses. I did a software update before I did the migration of data from an older Mac to this Mac Pro. The Lexmark drivers were updated to v 2.5. Apple support yesterday had no explanation or a fix. Still waiting for a reply from Lexmark.
I have deleted the printer, and re-installed it, but it didn't help. I plugged the printer directly into the left ethernet port (internet is in the right jack) and it couldn't find the printer. I took out the internet in the right ethernet plug and plugged in the printer and I again got the file not accepted.
I put the ethernet connection into the left plug and I got no ethernet available. Moving the internet back to the right jack and internet returned.
I connected the printer via a USB connection on the printer and got the same print file not being accepted. When I plugged in the USB cord from the printer into the computer, the printer woke up, so it sensed it was just plugged in.
My guess is that there is something wrong with the Lexmark driver update for Lion and an additional problem that I might also have a bad ethernet card that only works on one of the plugs (My old Mac had to be replaced because the only ethernet port went bad). I will call Apple support again about the bad ethernet port in the morning.

Lexmark gave a solution that apparently Applecare or the local service center didn't know about.
delete the old printer in the printer prefs
create a new printer using the IP tab (not what bonjour or other source might show normally)
enter the IP address of the printer
(would have to change the name of the printer from the IP address to the printer name)
Took less than a minute to get the printer working.
Must be something about Lion that behaves differently than previous OS X versions
I was told by local service NOT to run the DMG from lexmark for the Lion driver. The Apple update is sufficient.
Took six days of frustrating work, but finally have new computer running normally!!!!

  • IPP printing problems in lion

    Hi,
I'm having problems printing through IPP to my HP LaserJet 1010 connected to a print server router linux based. If I connect the HP printer directly to my Mac, no problems printing, if I configure it using IPP to print in my print server router, I have the following errors in cups error_log:

It seems that it can get some printer attrs, but it isn't able to print the file.
It's important to point out that I configured a Windows Vista box to troubleshoot and printed a file without any problems.
I googled and searched in this community, for similar problems and I didn't find any success case. I've also tried out many workarrounds without success.

  • Printing Problems with lion

    Hi
I have Installed the drivers for our SHARP MX2600fn printer at work and i have configured everything the way it should be.
My mac find the printer, connects to it, and even goes through the spooling process. The printer starts to make noises like its working, but then the spooling gets to 100%, it just says finished but the printer does not print anything.
Does anyone have any ideas about this?
    many thanks
    Kaato.

Reading your post it sounds like your printer may not support the Postscript printer language. This can result in the print job spooling off the Mac but not being printed if you are using a Postscript driver on the Mac.
As a test you could create another printer queue to the Sharp, but this time select the Generic PCL Laser printer driver. This will only print in black and white, but if it does print then at least you know that the issue is related to the printer not supporting Postscript.

  • Canon 860 Series (Pixma) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips

After spending several hours sorting out Canon Pixma OSX problems here are my thoughts:
Canon 860 Series (Pixma 868) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips
    Problem:
    - New imac and MacBook Pro 2012 (OSX 10.8.2) had a problem using Canon Pixma 868 printer on network and would not scan or print using Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print), which has advanced scanning and photo printing functions.
    - When I connected the canon printer to my imac, OSX 10.8.2 automatically downloaded and installed drivers for Canon 860 series printer. I could then add the new printer (select ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”) and printer would work while connected via USB but could not get to print or scan over network wifi.
    - The original Canon 860 Series CD does not work with 10.8 and the manual / online instructions did not make sense (as based on CD install).
    Solution:
    1) Install Canon Printer Drivers and Software (from official Canon site)
Go to canon support site, review FAQ, then download and install following Pixma 860 Series software & drivers for OSX 10.8 (links see below). The version I downloaded is in brackets but check for updated version. Full instructions are below.
Canon 860 Series Drivers & Software  for OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion:
The base software and drivers needed for using Canon 860 Series on Mac OS X 10.8 (USB) are
    1 Printer Driver
(Canon MX860 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.67.1.0 (03-Aug-2012))
    2 Scanner Driver
(Canon MX860 series Scanner Driver Ver. 14.11.4a (03-Aug-2012))
    3 Network Tool
(Canon IJ Network Tool Ver. 4.1.0 for Intel Mac (27-Dec-2012)
Canon Software for using advanced printing and scanning functions (while connected to network)
    4 Solution Menu
    (Canon Solution Menu Ver. 1.4.1 (27-Jul-2012 ))
    5 MP Navigator EX
(Canon MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 (02-Auf-2012))
    6 Easy-PhotoPrint EX
    (Canon Easy-PhotoPrint EX Ver. 4.1.6 (21-Jan-2013 ))
Canon Support (HK) – check your local site

Select Product and drivers from support site eg http://support-hk.canon-asia.com/
    1. Choose a product category
    Multifunctional Printers
    2. Choose a product series
      Pixma
    3. Choose a product model
      Pixma MX868
    4. Choose type of document
    Downloads or FAQ
If you have problems installing the software under 10.8, see the FAQ on Canon site. You will need to allow software installs from “unidentified developers by using “Control” Key or by changing your system preferences)
    2) Check Canon Printer and Software Working while connected via USB
Once you have downloaded and installed drivers and software and restarted computer, check that the printer and Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print) are working via USB.  Open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App) and make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it shows the correct SSID Wifi settings (under the Canon IJ Network Tool App ‘Setup menu’).  This is normally done as part of the automatic install but worth double checking
    3) Add new network printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”).
After you have checked USB printing turn off printer, unplug the USB cable and shutdown the Canon IJ Network Tool App.
Then turn the printer back on and wait 30s. Then add a new printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”). Once you select “+” (add new printer), wait 10-30s for the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer to appear in the new window eg Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) (Kind: “Canon IJ Network”)
DO NOT ADD THE MX 860 SERIES BONJOUR SCANNER (the Bonjour Scanner is the built-in software, is not needed and often appears first on the add printer list).  The Canon scanner can be accessed used through the MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 software (which has much better functions)
You will now have two Printer Canon MX860 (USB) and Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network). Set the Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network) as default and test print and scan
If the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer does not appear, check the printer and make sure that the printer can see the wifi network. On the printer select Menu / Settings / Device Settings / Lan Settings / WLAN Setting List.  It should say WLAN Active, identify the SSID and have an IP address
If the printer can not see the Wifi Network, plug the USB cable back in, then open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App). Make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it has your SSID settings (under setup), if it has this info, restart the computer and the printer and try again

  • Problem with Lion 10.7.3 with hp laserjet 3600n network  printer

    Hi
Problem with Lion 10.7.3 with hp laserjet 3600n network  printer
Guys i am having a mad day with this new OS and some network printer none of them work with new LION,The software for this printer is currently unavaliable. Please contact the printers manufacturer for the latest software, i need the drivers for this, please give a hand with this issue
    Best Regards

Exactly the same infuriating problem we and many others get with OS X from 10.6 on when Apple dropped Apple Talk.
Having spent days fighting to get drivers that will run our older laser printers like HP5000, 5100, 2100, 2200 and 4MV, we came up with a simple solution:
We use an iMac running 10.5.8 as a print server. All the 10.6 upwards Macs on the same network will see and add the printers immediately through the shared older (Apple Talk) iMac.
Cheapest and simplest option really .... it'sannoying that a brand new Mac can no longer see existing network printers without complex investigation and trying various downloads.
Answer is simple and cheap if you happen to own a 4 or 5 year old Mac with an OS lower than 10.6 which still has Apple Talk.

  • Printer problems in adobe cs5 mountain lion

anyone have printer problems in mountain lion with adobe cs5

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It works in OS X Mountain Lion, but there are some problems > http://roaringapps.com/app:4956
If you want more information, you can have a look at the Adobe website, where you will find more information about possible problems in Mountain Lion.
New computers come with OS X Mountain Lion, so this is the Mac OS X version you will have. Some users would recommend you to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard on a virtual machine, but you will be wasting hard disk space and performance while its virtual machine is running

  • Problems printing with Mountain Lion and Epson WorkForce 645.

Ever since I installed Mountain Lion I've been having problems printing on my Epson WorkForce 645.  My initial problems started while trying to print from Google Chrome.  The printer would always jam once I tried to print from the browser. I would have to open another browser (like Safari) and print from there.  After driver updates from Apple, my printing problems got worse.  I'm now not able to print from Microsoft Excel or QuickBooks anymore.

Yes it is, you must install the driver. Download the driver from here here:

Printer problem. Since installing Lion my kodak esp5250 all in one says the printer head is jammed. It isn't. Reinstalled software and it worked once but still gives printer head jammed message. Any ideas?

Only the obvious one: do you have the latest driver, and does that cope with Lion? Kodak's stated requirements include this, which is slightly suspect. Obviously an interaction problem with Kodak?  Try exploring whatever help Kodak have.

  • Printer Problems after upgrade to Lion

Does anyone have this printer problem after upgrading to Lion. A perfectly functioning laser printer on my network prior to upgrade - now the network seems to drop the printer and show it as "not connected" approximately every 30 minutes ???

    Hi Paul,
Been away and just got back to this issue.
Thanks for the info. The OKI site has now posted a list of all their Printers and their relative drivers for compatibility with "Lion". My machine is due an updated driver from OKI in Mid Decmber according to this notice.
Meanwhile, as the printer does work with some tweaking I guess I will use the work around until the new driver is available. My legacy printers that i use for special jobs both work and as I do not have the disks for their drivers I am loathe to re-set the printer system at this time.
Thanks for your assistance in this issue.
    Regards,
    Mike, Rustington.

  • Print is 11 x 18 in LR4-Print module & much smaller in CS6 (same print). What is the problem?

I use CS6 on a Mac pro os 10.8.3 & print to an Epson Pro 4900.
If I print an image via LR4 print module the print comes out at 12 X18 in. Recently I have tried that same image via CS6 and the print comes out  at 6 5/8 X 8 1/2 in.
In Print Settings in Printer Setup in the print module of CS6  stats "Super A3 / B 13 X 19 but the printed image dimensions are a little over half of that.
The printer used to print normally in CS6 print file.

I tried  your suggestions without success.
I went back and tried adjusting the "Scale:" percentage in "Scaled Print Size"
The image size in the Image Dialogue box is 11 X 16.5 in.
In the Print Dialogue Window the following info is:
    Printer EpsonStylusPro4900-26A688
    Paper Size Super A / B 13 X 19 in
I then printed out the image after adjusting the Scale percentage which yielded the following results:
At Scale 100%  the print comes out at 6.5 X 8 in
At Scale  200%  the print comes out at 6.5 X 8 in
At Scale  25%  the print comes out at 2.75 X 4.12 in
It appears to me that CS6 is applying an upper size limit but I don't have any idea why.

  • HP 5200 printing in Mountain Lion -BROKEN!

What to do to print on an HP5200 laser printer in Mountain Lion – on a 27" iMac, wirelessly via an Airport Extreme?
It worked flawlessly on Lion, plain vanilla variety.
Sometimes I get NO printer response; mostly I receive a warning declaring . . . “The software for the printer was installed incorrectly. Would you like it repaired?” Of course I select “Repair”. It then works for one document only, followed by an identical  error for the next printing request.
    I have reinstalled the 5200 – 4 times! – via SYSTEM PREFS > PRINT & SCAN > OPTIONS & SUPPLIES . . .
"GENERAL" lists a ver 18.4 Driver
"DRIVER" merely cites Tray, Collating characterists, Disk etc. nothing about a driver
"UTILITY > OPEN PRINTER UTILITY" lists as UNKNOWN everything except the Driver Version
I checked with HP’s murky help site. It declares that HP has NO driver available for any OSX subsequent to Snow Leopard. Suggests: "Call Apple".
Called AppleCare. Apple’s Senior Tech didn’t so anything but argue with me that HP has drivers to fix the problem. I read the HP citation to her and she hung-up on me.
BTW: My HP DeskJet 970Cse functions OK in Mountain Lion.
BTW Nr 2: Anything in Safari 6.0 immediately crashes the 5200.

Try resetting the printing system. Follow these steps:
System Preferences - Print & Scan - Highlight printer on left panel - right click and choose Reset Printing System....
