LR4 trial is identical to LR3

My LR4 trial looks exactly as my old LR3 with same presets and brushes plus same basic panel etc.
What to do ??

Thank You got that
How about my LR3 presets, they are all showing in LR4.  I dont really want them there - only LR4 presets.
Is that possible ?
Thank You for Your input !!

  • LR3 and LR4 Trial version won't launch

For the last few days each time I try to launch either LR3 or the LR4 Trial version a pop up window appears on my desktop that says:
    Lightroom-Opening Catalog: DSC_1234.jpg.lrcat
Then a Windows error message appears stating that Lightroom 64-bit has stopped working. I have uninstalled LR3 and re-installed it and also downloaded LR4 trial version. On both versions the above message still appears. I have tried searching for the file DSC_1234.jpg but I cannot find it.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

The Catalog name "Lightroom-Catalog: DSC_1234.jpeg.lrcat" is an invalid name for a catalog and has been created because you inadvertantly selected an "image file" to name a new catalog. The .lrcat is the normal extention for "LightRoom CATlog" it is in lower case.
.LRCAT files are by default in your user > My Pictures> Lightroom folder. Delete the file with the invalid name then you can double click on a valid Lightroom 3 .lrcat or Lightroom 4 .lrcat file to open/boot the relative program.
You can use a search with *.lrcat (LRCAT not IRCAT) for all your Lightroom Catalog files.
However I am not sure you can use LR 3 in Trial mode since it has been replaced by LR 4.

  • LR4 trial download page?

Can't seem to navigate to it no matter how many different ways I try to get there.  Always end up at an "error" page.  PS6 trial download comes up fine.  Anyone have a notion where the LR4 trial download page may be? I want to send the link to attendees to a workshop I'm leading next week.  Thanks!  MJ

There isn't a "trial" download page, but
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5488 (Windows)
    or
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5487 (Mac)
    should see you right.
For futire reference,  it might be worth noting that these pages seem to be rather "browser sensitive": if nothing happens when the download link is clicked, try a diffeent browser.

  • Installing LR4 Beta but still keep LR3.5

Hi LR people just a quick question (maybe dumb question)...
Can I install the LR4 Beta and still keep my LR3.5? I presume that I just install it in a different folder in my Applications? Did I get that right?
Oh I am running a MAC Pro.
    Thanks everyone

It will install at  /Applications/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.app
The default location for Lr3 was /Applications/Adobe Lightroom 3.app
You can run both applications fine, but while Lr4 is in Beta it will not import you Lr3 catalog.
Personally, for testing, I make a copy of some RAW files I already have in Lr3 then import those to Lr4 to experiment with.

  • LR4 trial will not instal properly

When I instal the trialversion of LR4 on my Mac (mid2011) I get a message like "there has been a failure by changing modules". After that nothing happens so I can't use LR4. I do have some plugins like OnOne which I use with CS5. What is going wrong here? I haven't installed LR3.

    Hi,
    Try the following
First of all, uninstall your current version of HP Support Assistant using the Microsoft 'Fixit' on the link below.
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
When this has completed, restart the PC.
Next download and install the latest version of HP Support Assistant from the page on the link below - the download links are towards the bottom of the page.

  • Should be LR4 but boots up as LR3

I use the Windows 7 Ultimate os. I have rebooted my computer and redownloaded LR4.3 to possibly repair any corruption in the version.
When I open LR it shows that I am opening LR 4.3 64 bit, however, when the program boots up, even though it is labeled LR4 it is actually LR3.
I am at a loss of what to do.  Please help.  Thank you.

It was because the photo was part of a LR3 collection, catalog, import (whatever is the correct nomenclature).  It had an exclamation point associated with it.  When I hit the ! and updated it, it shifted over to the LR for sliders.
Thank you very much for your time and help.

That is the expected behaviour. The new processing version (2012) can change the appearance of already processed files so take care not to update all photos as you may well have to readjust them. All new photos imported will have the 2012 processing.

  • 'Preview unavailable' on LR4 import, but not in LR3!

I get 'preview unavailable for this file' when attempting to import files from my Panasonic Lumix DMC LX3 - even though the same images show up fine on import preview for Lightroom 3!??
I have Lightroom 3 AND 4 on my machine at the minute, running OSX Lion on Mac, and if I have the same card in the same card reader - I see soem unimported file previews with 3, but not with 4!
What the hell - older version seems to work better than the new one!!
Any ideas / tips / suggestions much appreciated...
    thanks for your time

Sorry, no reply yet, although some people seem to be trying the LR4 beta to try and circumvent the same issue...

  • Help with LR4 trial download

I'm trying to dowload LR4, but nothing is working!! Help!!

Could you be a bit more specific?
Are you unable to download? Or are you downloading something that doesn't work?
If it's the former - try another browser.

  • LR4 Unuseable  Having to use LR3

LR4  Very Very Slow. Everything takes an age to apply. Nothing happens in real time as was the case Lightroom 3.  Not Responding message  seems to be permantely on.  What has happened?

    terry275 wrote:
The develop module is very slow.  The noise reduction is like watching paint dry.  The whole develop module does not respond in real time.  Delays are in seconds not milli seconds. The NOT RESPONDING message is annoyingly frequent when it is obvious from the delays experienced that it is not responding and has on one occasion actually gone into a repetitive cycle and had to be closed via the task manager in windows.    I have never complained about any adobe product before but there is something very wrong with this one.
Okay, I'm using LR4 on my Core-i5 dual-core 13" laptop running an external 24" monitor, and it's nowhere near seconds.  Perhaps 200ms or so between frames.
A couple of things to try - turn off lens profile corrections and turn off auto CA correction.

  • Wrong sidecar (LR3 - LR4)

    Hi,
I have 40k+ pictures in LR3. Last month I installed LR4 trial and I started using it. It created catalog xxx-2-2. I did some file renaming on several years and other adjustments on my latest pictures. I wasn't happy because it was too slow and I stopped using it.
Then I started using LR3 again with catalog xxx-2.
Most of my pictures are Nikon Raw (NEF).
In LR3, with no particular reason, some of my older pictures show wrong adjustments (sidecar). Most of the time it seems that the sidecar data has been moved one picture prior. So DSC_001.NEF has now the adjustments, cropping, rating, keywords, etc. for DSC_002.NEF; DSC_002.NEF has the adjustments, etc. for DSC_003.NEF and so on. It looks like the sidecar files have changed somehow the name one step behind.
In other cases it looks like the adjustments are just reaplied randomly. I have lots of pictures upsidedown, which is very unusual since all of my pictures should be straight or +/- 90degrees only.
And I also have pictures with the capture time changed (the pictures are mixed - I sort them by capture time). And that's really wird, since no process should be able to rewrite the capture time on several random pictures at a time.
There are several months in several years affected; not always all the pictures.
I removed the files from catalog for one full month and I imported them again. The problem is still there. So the issue really seems to be within the sidecar file.
So my only choice would be to delete all sidecars, and reapply adjustments, cropping, rating, keywording, etc. For thousands of pictures....
I reinstalled LR4 and some of the problems seem to dissapear. I didn't go one by one, but at a first glance I don't see upside down pictures anymore and wrong capture time. Except the ones I "fixed" in LR3...
So I understand that I have problems with LR3 where LR4 has written in the sidecars and there are compatibility issues. Please comment.
Now, how can I fix it all back, like it was before I first installed LR4?
What can I do to be able to use LR3 again?
    Thank you.
    Adrian

The answer that you just effectively delete the sidecar files and only use the catalogue is crazy.
And I think this statement is crazy. Lightroom's catalog does not read or make use of sidecar files, except when you specifically instruct LR to use them. There is at least one person who posts in this forum who never uses sidecar files with his RAWs, he doesn't want them. In my own Lightroom 5beta catalog, I haven't told Lightroom to create sidecar files, and yet everything works just fine.
What exactly are the sidecar files for then?
Communications with other applications, or communication with other Lightroom catalogs. They are not the place where LR stores its own information about the photos.
And the OP seemed to suggest that they didn't want to go through thousands of files and individually reapply all the adjustments.
Yes, the catalog file has all the information needed about the edits; your edits will be restored by restoring the catalog file. Sidecar files are not needed in this restoration of edits and metadata.
They also said that they had 2 separate catalogues, so does that answer the question about backups?
Two catalogs has nothing to do with backups.

  • LR3 cataloques into LR4

I have a huge LR 3 cataloque, which was imported to a trial version of LR4. I was not quick enough to order LR4 upgrade before my trial period was over. I returned to LR 3 for some time before I got my own licence of LR 4. When I got it I removed the LR 4 trial and installed the LR 4 upgrade. The installation went OK, but importing the LR3 images that had been imported into LR3 after stopping the use of LR4 trial version was not asked during the installation process. Neither they were there. The LR4 cataloque was exactly the same as it was when I stopped using the trial version. How should I proceed to get the part of the LR3 cataloque, which I worked with in between the Trial LR 4 and the "proper" LR4 into LR4. I would not like to import the raw images again and start from the scracthes with each image.
    yours Kari

Filter your post-4-trial LR 3 catalog by date.
Select all photos that occur after the date where you stopped using LR4 trial.
Take that selection and "Export as a Catalog" to a temporary catalog.
Open your LR4 catalog and import the temporary catalog using the Import from Another Catalog function.

  • DNG changes made in LR4 not visible in LR3

I am working on a MacBook Pro with both Lightroom 3 and Lightroom 4 installed. I wanted to test my assumption DNG is a DNG and that changes made to a DNG in LR4 would be visible in LR3, so I made changes to a DNG in Lightroom 4, clicked Update DNG Preview and Metadata and then exported that file as a DNG. I imported that DNG into a different Lightroom 3 catalog and the changes were not visible, even after choosing Read Metadata from File. Those same DNG changes were not visible in Bridge either. The changes are visible in the Finder, but not in Preview. Anyone know why and how I can make Lightroom 3 recognize the DNG changes made in LR4?

Your DNG is original-image-data + an adjustment recipe stored as metadata that tells LR how to display and export the image.  Your DNG does not contain adjusted image data like a TIF or JPG would.
Your adjustments are probably in Process Version 2012, new to LR4, and only understood by LR4 and ACR 6.7/ACR 7.x and newer.  The embedded JPG preview in the DNG is what LR4 put there.
There is a difference between a DNG being understood as a valid raw file by older Adobe products which it can, and those older products knowing how to interpret the adjustment recipe, which they can’t.
Specifically, LR3 doesn’t know how to interpret PV2012 adjustments, since it was last updated in 2011 and only knows about PV2010 and earlier.
Other non-Adobe programs, like Finder, can only see the embedded JPG preview which is the LR4 rendering, but LR3 re-renders the image using its own interpretation of the settings it can understand.
