LR5.2 crashes in slideshow preview

Is there a limit to the number of pictures in a slideshow ?  Looking for a reason to my problem :
I have successfully done a series of slideshows of my latest trip ; 4 slideshows of about 300  pictures each. Includes both pictures and video clips . Works perfectly !
Than I created a new slideshow within that collection incorporating all the slides of the 4 sub slideshows  at the start .  Then I went through the slideshow and deleted ( removed out of the collection ) about half of the pictures : my aim was to have a shorter version in one slideshow ipo the 4 individual slideshows with about twice the total length
However , the newly created slideshow will not run : clicking on "preview" or "play " will give me only for a few seconds the screen " preparing preview ", then a black screen appears and the error message " Adobe has stopped working " .
I am kicked out of LR and Windows 7 screen comes up " checking for a solution to your problem ".
I am running without other issues LR5.2 64 bit on Windows 7; and as I said , the other slideshows within same collection run fine
Anyone having an idea what the issue could be ? what to do ?
thanks

Thank you Rob
Tried Showbiz
did not really help
Under Showbiz, the slideshow does run on the PC( so that was an improvenement) , but without audio and fade in/out !
When doing an " Export Video", the process starts  - so things looked good - but at about 10% completion , had the same error as before and the process stopped and I was ejected out of LR.
Note that I was surprised that when Showbiz indcated that it was " building 1:1 pre-builds " , it showed only 159 out of the 659 to do .
Maybe LR stopped at picture 159 ( although percentage wise that was more than the approximate 10% it did achieve ) ?
Guess i will have to run smaller slideshows

  • Sudden Crash During Slideshow Previews

    Hi there,
I usually post to the Powerbook thread, but for once I've been using iPhoto (the latest version) to build a slideshow of roughly 50 photos.
What I've found is that the app crashes, apparently randomly (no one images to 'blame' when I preview a slideshow. Sometimes the slideshow works fine and then another time the app with just go down, taking my history of changes with it.
As I'm losing work here, has any old hands out there had the same problem or is there a work-around? How can you get iphoto to save your changes (slides show workflow for instance) without just quitting the app? I've found quitting of my own accord seems to be the only thing to retain changes.
I've just repaired permissions in case it's an image it's getting stuck on. My install of Tiger is a clean 'erase and install'.

    Hi peter,
iPhoto is said to automatically save changes for you. After I have done any work on a slideshow or book I highlight another album or the library to make sure the changes are saved....hopefully.

There is no issue if I preview or play without music.

  • Gallery widget black - no "slideshow" preview

In iWeb, when I drag the gallery from the media menu, there's only a black screen. If I click on the little arrow in the bottom right-hand corner, it takes me to the MobileMe gallery. But the box itself is black, with no slideshow preview, and nothing happens when I click on it.

You can't change the look of the thumbnail in the embedded gallery widget. You can certainly try to use you're own HTML widget but the gallery effect will not be the same since it will only be in full-screen mode once the user taps on the widget image as opposed to having the ability to swipe through the widget right in the book. If that's fine with you, I recommend two sources: Get a widget using JS/HTML code from a place like Code Canyon, or if you don't want to mess with coding, you can use bookry or bookwiddgets.

  • Crashes when building previews

LR keeps crashing when I try to rebuild previews. I had an issue before where I didn't see any thumbnails in the "all photographs" view, and to fix that I created a new catalog. I was able to rebuild previews for several external discs, but one disc kept crashing LR. So I installed that disc internally in my Mac Pro. Still kept crashing on build previews. Then I transferred all the files to a brand new hard drive, still inside my Mac. Whenver I rebuild the previews, the scan completes, and then I get the spinning beach ball, and then crash.
I do have a bunch of crash reports if that helps.
I'm running LR 2.7 on a Mac Pro with OSX 10.6.3. 5GB memory. I've repaired disk permissions on startup disk, and ran DiskWarrior on startup disk as well as the discs that house my photos. I've also run Techtool. In the past I've had issues with LR crashing when building Web galleries.
I would really appreciate suggestions--I've been wresting with this for days and it's very frustrating. Thanks!

More trouble: there's a catalog I can't import. I keep getting an "unkown error." And when I start the import, I'm getting strange previews with backwards text (I'm pretty sure it's instructing me to take hallucinogenic drugs) see below.

quits altogether. photos stop and start or appear overlayed. music stops and starts during the slideshow preview almost like the photos and music get "stuck" have tried every thing . Need help

I would try the oft applied maintenance of deleting preferences and doing a permissions repair. To delete preferences, close iDVD and trash the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist found in User (the house icon)/Library/Preferences. Then do a permissions repair using the Disk Utility app found in HD/Applications/Utilities. In the left hand pane of the Disk Utility window seclect your hard drive icon and then click on repair permissions. Takes about 3 minutes to repair. Then relaunch iMovie and see if you still have the problem. iDVD will recreate the .plist file that you deleted.

Check the Windows System Event Viewer to see the details of the crash, most importantly the name of the faulting module.

  • Can not remove ? from external hard drive folder in LR5 & can't link smart preview & original pic

I have LR5 and a MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.5 I have an external hard drive that when I imported photos from my cameras memory card I selected the hard drive as the source to move the pictures to. I forgot if I clicked ADD, MOVE, or COPY.
In the library mode in LR5 the external hard drive shows up under folders, but has a question mark on every folder on the external hard drive. I control clicked on the question mark for the first folder (the parent folder?) and choose “Find missing folder”. I then navigated to the external hard drive and clicked on that same folder, then clicked choose. Nothing happened. I tried this same method with individual folders and the same, I control click on the folder with a question mark, navigate to the same folder on the hard drive, click on it (I tried both just clicking on the folder so it was highlighted and actually opening the folder), and select choose, the question marks remain.
    1. How do I link the two to remove the question mark?
Second question, possibly related. I have a collection in the library mode that has only previews, the originals were added to the same external hard drive as above. When I navigate to the hard drive via my finder (not in LR5), the originals are there. When I am in the library mode in LR5, in this collection, and click on the preview square in the top right corner of an individual picture in that collection, it says “image can be edited using its smart preview but the original file can not be found. Would you like to locate it".
The original location of it shows below this statement and is correct; it shows the path to the external hard drive and the folder where the original is contained that I mentioned previously. I navigate to that picture on the external hard drive and select it. I get another notice box pop up that says “the file is associated with another photo in the catalog. Each file can only be associated with one photo.” I select show in library and it brings me right back to the image that is a smart preview only. I am stuck in this loop and cant figure out how to associate the original on the external hard drive with the smart preview in LR5.
    1.   I have the originals still on my camera memory card, do I import again? I am afraid I will loose all my edits.
I hope I gave you the right info. Every link I find to answer this question is related but not quite the same, any link you know of is apreciated. Thanks!

  • Adobe Premiere Pro crashes on video preview

    Hello,
I was recently working on a project and had Premiere Pro opened, then I had to update my video card drivers, because I had all sort of visual glitches in my games, occasionally when watching movies and the drivers were completely crashing every now and then. At some point during the update my screen went all azure-colored and my computer was completely non-responsive, so I had to restart it, after some waiting. After which the drivers appear to have been installed correctly but when I tried to start Premiere it crashed after loading my project. After a reinstall the same thing kept on occurring, it turned out premiere can start by itself with no problems and even import video files, but the moment I put the video file on the preview window, either by dragging it or by putting it in the timeline, Premiere crashes.
My stupid video card is "SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X R9 270X 2G G5", like I said I updated the drivers, because it was causing problems, it is still uncertain if the update fixed those issues, but now I have a problem with Premiere, which was working fine before that.
I also cleared the media caches, no effect. The crash occurs with any video file, not just with my last project.
    Any ideas?

Will do, however in the meantime I found out Premiere works fine if in a new project I set the rendering to be only software, without the GPU, also in all cases audio import, preview and playback are unaffected.
I was sort of hoping I could play games AND rend video, what are the chances of that?

  • LR5 after crashing doesn't import all folders from backed up catalog

    Hello,
yesterday my LR crashed and not surer why. Just came to my mac and for some reason LR CC quit itself and when I press to launch it it asked me to import files from the catalogue as if you would start fresh install.
I used last Lightroom backup file, but for some reason it imports all photos apart of one HD and that one has most recent photos on it. Not sure why it is not including that HD. I tried to import images manually, via import photos dialog. Works fine apart that I have lost all edits on them. It just imports them as fresh photos without previews. There are quiet few weddings on it and I really don't want to reedit all this.
When I tried to import photos from different catalogue, nothing happens, it doesn't allow me to add those photos from that one HD. Everything is just greyed out and I can't do any selections.
How to get my edits back? Was thinking to do a clean install and try again my last backed up lrcat file. Just afraid that I would loose all my edits.
    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Armands

+I didn't rename the movie file inside of the iPhoto Library for fear of corrupting the library structure.+
Good thinking! The only way to change the filename in iPhoto is to export the movie file, import it back in, copy over comments, keywords from the old to the new movie, and then delete the old movie.

  • Digitally Signed PDF crashes Mail and Preview

I've run into an odd situation - if I try to send a digitally signed PDF file using the Mail app or even view that file in the Preview app, those apps crash. The PDF files are created in Adobe Acrobat Pro version 9.1.0 (for the Mac). My Mail and Preview apps are right up to date.
The same PDF file still opens just fine in Adobe Acrobat. If I create exactly the same file, but don't go through the digital signature step, the files open (in Preview) and send (in Mail) just fine.
Anyone else run into this problem and/or have a suggestion on how to avoid it?
(P.S. By "create", I mean I have printed to the "Adobe PDF 9.0" print driver, which creates the base PDF file. Then I have also "secured" the file by requiring a password be entered to change anything. The final step, which seems to be causing the problem, is digitally signing the file.)

The problem may be related to asking Acrobat 9 to output a file format "compatible" with older versions -- along with adding security.
If you check the Console log, I think you will find that the "mdworker" task is also crashing -- even when you open the file successfully with Adobe Reader. I presume this is Spotlight trying to index the file.
Safari will also crash when attempting to view such a PDF. It puts out a Console message indicating invalid AES block size or some such. Presumably this is related to the 128 bit AES security in the PDF file. Using 128 bit RC4 results in a file that doesn't crash Preview, but the document content is garbled by Preview so it's just as bad.
