LR5 freezing up due to OS X Yosemite vs OS X Server?

After owning a new late-2013 Macbook Pro for just 2 months, LR 5 recently started freezing up, requiring a reboot. Problem has been persisting so I reinstalled Lightoom 5 and even reset my Mac to factory settings. Still having the problem. Everything is up-to-date. Could it be because I'm running OS X Yosemite instead of OS X Server? If so, why the problem now?

When I open LR5, and start perusing through my photos, it'll click into one, LR tries to load it but it'll never load then freezes up. Then LR5 stops responding and I have to Force Quit the program. After Force Quitting, I try to reopen LR5 but it never opens. The only way to get it to open back up is by restarting the computer. And once it opens it freezes back up on me after I started looking at photos... Sometimes after the initial Force Quit, my whole computer freezes up then I have to hold the power button down.
I purchased this Macbook Pro ~2 months ago at the end of October and ran LR5 for 6 weeks with no problems. Then suddenly it started freezing up on me.
Here's my system specs:
Macbook Pro, late-2013, 15" Retina
2 GHz intel core i7
8 gigs of memory
Running OS X Yosemite, Versions 10.10.1
Lightroom 5.7.1
Also, I'm running two Western Digital external hard drives that hold all my images.

  • InDesign under Leopard freezes/crashes due to save-/open-operation

    Since I updated my Mac/OS to Leopard, *InDesign (CS2) often freezes* when I have it perform any kind of open- or save-operation, i.e. whenever the app has to use the OS' save-open-dialogue.
    This includes exporting-to-pdf-operations.
    I have no clue whether this might reflect any special circumstances like using other apps simultaneously or having performed any stuff before. It just happens out of the blue, and very often.
    Restarting the Mac does not solve the problem.
    And then, after restarting InDesign several times, it works fine for the rest of the day.
    And bang, the next day it's freezing again.

    After reading what they say about Leopard Compatibility I presume folks at Adobe are heaving some kind of festivities going on because lots of people will have to upgrade their apps to CS3 level and offer them quite some cash for that matter.
    VERY REGRETTABLE. I can't quite believe such basic operations like saving a document are undermined by a new OS. Dear Apple Inc., that's just not fine. And I do believe Adobe upgrades are unnecessarily expensive. Some fix for CS2 level apps wouldn't be asked to much from Adobe, IMHO.

    recently upgraded to yosemite and now i can't open iPhoto, it will not let me update or purchase new it simply gives me a message that reads:

    my main concern is my pictures having the app would be great but losing all those pictures would be devastating            

    Your photos and the application are totally separate - the iPhoto application is in the Applications folder and contains no photos - your iPhoto library is by default in your pictures folder and by default contains all of your photos - and of course you have  backup of your system since witout one you are 100% guaenteed to lose everything including you photos sooner or later - things fial
    Be sure you are logged in under the Apple ID that was used to purchase iPhoto or to set up the computer - if it still dos not work drag the iPhoto application to the trash (do not empty it yet) and then go to the App store and install iPhoto 9.6 - depending on what version you have it may be free or a purchase)

  • Firefox freeze apparently due to mesa 10.3.1

    I searched for recent posts about my bug but the closest I got was this one: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=188484
    I first tried to remove all my extensions, which didn't work and then I tried downgrading to Firefox 32 (as said in the other thread), but didn't work either.
    That being said, I tried to downgrade from mesa 10.3.1 to 10.3.0 and now Firefox seems to work far better now, so if you get some sort of weird freeze (no light gray window, everything about image/video is frozen, but the sound, from flash, still works). I have an AMD/ATI Radeon HD 6870 with the open source drivers.
    Here's the line to downgrade:
    pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/mesa-10.3.0-3-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

    Thanks for the pointer.  Saw the glib errors in the log but they were very random in conjunction with Firefox actually crashing.  So far so good.  Must have been a change in Gnome 3.14 (evince) causing this, can't remember if there was an evince Firefox plug-in with Gnome 3.12.

    last week I installed fresh new (minimalistic) Arch installation with KDE (only base). Everything seemed fine but from time to time my PC freezes up and I'm not able to login in different tty.
    Investigating the issue I found out that systemd-journald sometimes (not always) gets 100% of CPU and huge amounts of memory.

    I also retrived the core dump via systemd-coredump but it has like 50MB and I didn't find much useful information in there.
    I tried re-installing virtuoso-base but of course that didn't help.
    Right now I tried to change my /etc/systemd/journald.conf to be less "destructive" to my SSD

    I believe that this may be virtuoso issue but it is essential to KDE which I really get used to. Does anyone had similar issues or any suggestions what to try right now?

    You are not alone in this.
    Google search for 'virtuoso segfault' and you'll see what I mean. It's not just Arch.
    I wish I had more to offer. The fact that this is beyond Arch leads me to believe the solution must come from upstream. I do plan on looking into this more when I can, but for now it hasn't been a show stopper for me (it's my gaming rig - plenty of resources). I usually just killall -9 virtuoso until they stop (and stop coming back), then move on with my day. Then again, I know I don't need anything it provides so I haven't lost data.

It starts with pixel artifacts extending across certain windows. This phenomenon increases if I am doing some more intense graphic work (video editting, rendering, etc).
    I've run through a several system utilities to ensure the integrity of the OS. As far as I can tell, disks and OS are fine.
    The only solution I've found so far, is to keep the case open as I am working. This isn't ideal, as it's messing up the airflow over the other boards in the machine. it also let's a lot of dust in (though, maybe no more than normal!)
    If it is in fact the card, is there a reasonable replacement, or even an upgrade that I should consider that would solve the problem? I would either want a very inexpensive direct replacement - and save my money for a new machine in the next year or so. OR get one that would be compatible with the latest system as well as mine.
    Thoughts are appreciated!

    How do you know it's overheating you haven't posted any temperatures. If you don't know what they are then download and install iStatPro and then post the temps your system is showing. From those we can give you advice on whether your system is running hot or not.
    Also you posted in an iMac forum, you may want to post in the correct forum which would be the Mac Pro forum.

  • Yosemite 10.10.2 server app. FTP help. I have a program running in my local server enviroment that wants to FTP to my mac folder. It asks for the server , name, password, port and path. what are they?

    So I have set up a localhost area in my Mac. I have the new server.app and I am running yosemite 10.10.2 .
    I have a program running in my local server enviroment that wants to FTP to my mac .
    It asks for the server , name, password, port and path. what are they?
    I am pretty certain that the Serveris "localhost",
    Name is my macs name (like my-mac-min)
    password is "my login password"
    and they suggest port 21.
    But what is the file path, lets just say my site is set up http://localhost/siteftp and is actually at my Users/Sites/siteftp folder.
    Why cant this program connect to the mac.
    Is it because they are both operating in the same localhost enviroment,
    could it be my folder permissions are not correct on siteftp folder?
    Help please !

    I tried turning the computer off and then back on. The alerts don't show the notice to update as resolved. Hopefully this is not a problem or an indicator or another problem. Should I ignore or reload 10.10.1 from the app store to trigger a resolved check in a green circle?
    Interesting that I had to buy server software after my free Yosemite download. I would have hoped that the two pieces of software would have gone together without any complication. It is not positive to end up buying a problem. Ah well, time to move on.

  • Calendar Server crashes in Yosemite 10.10 with Server App 4.0

    I am running an OS X Server (4.0) in Yosemite 10.10 locally on my iMac to provide calendars in our house. Since the combined update of OS and the "Server App" the calendar server crashes frequently. It restarts when I run the server app but crashes again a couple of minutes later.

    Looks like a corrupt database. I suggest you export all calendars on the clients, then delete /Library/Server/Wiki/Data and reinitialize the server.
    Back up all data.
    Quit the Server application and drag it to the Trash, but don't empty. You'll be prompted to confirm that you want to stop all services. You won't lose any data.
    If you're using the server for DNS, temporarily change the primary DNS setting in the Network preference pane to your ISP's DNS.
    Put the app back where it was and launch it. Test.
    Revert the DNS setting, if applicable.

  • Yosemite/Active Directory/Windows Server

    After upgrading two iMacs from Mavericks to Yosemite, both now fail to connect to user accounts created with Windows Server2012. When using Mavericks I did not have this issue. Any thoughts? I did unbind but now the binding process fails as well.

    This fixed my problem- Network Preferences/Advanced/DNS then add the NAME of your local server to the search domain. Click apply. Next, open Directory Utility and unbind the computer. Lastly, Bind the computer making sure to input the name of the local server in the space for Active Directory Domain (the same name you added to the Search Domain) and click on Bind. Hope this works!

  • Yosemite upgrade on mini server

    I keep getting a note on my desktop often that says I should upgrade to Yosemite.  Will my ftp and web server work automatically after if I click "yes"?

    Another way to set things up, use an Apple Airport Extreme Basestation.
    My system setup has a cable modem directly connected to the AEBS.
    The AEBS is then setup to do all of the network management,  I use
    both hardwired and WiFi access via the AEBS.  It also has a USB port
    that you can use for attaching HDDs for common data access and even
    Time Machine backups.
    FWIW, here's my system:
    2011 MiniServer used as HTPC - hardwired ethernet to AEBS
    2010 Mini used as server - hardwired ethernet to AEBS
    (these are hardwired simply because of proximity to AEBS but could be WIFi connected)
    Late 2013 27" iMac workstation- hardwired or WIFi depending on needs
    Early 2011 Macbook Pro - WiFi connected
    iPhone 5S - WiFi connected as needed
    The 2010 Mini Server I use as my "iTunes hub" set up with Home Sharing and
    by running Server on it, have Apple download caching of both Mac and iOS
    apps, Time Machine backups and general backups for various content from
    the different computers.

  • OSX Yosemite 10.10.2 Server - DNS Issue

    I am trying to set up Yosemite server a home server for the family - 5 macs.  I have a public domain name which is forwarded to a Draytek ADSL router.  The Mac Mini running Yosemite (server) sits behind the Draytek on a private network (192.168.6.X).  It was a clean install (not an upgrade), DNS works for most things (e.g. safari & Open Directory), but DNS appears to have issues resolving some domain names (particularly anti-virus updates) ... an excerpt from the log follows.  it seems no fail to resolve TXT records properly and also partial records e.g../NS/IN.
    Any help and/or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

    As Linc says those examples are all IPv6 lookups.
    Even if your Draytek supports IPv6 which I believe some current models do, it is highly possible your ISP does not support IPv6 as far as your connection is concerned. (As an aside since officially IPv4 addresses have run out worldwide, it is outrageous how most consumer ISPs still fail to offer proper IPv6 connections to customers.)
    You might want to try experimenting with turning off IPv6 completely on your Mac server and/or clients. This is done in System Preferences -> Network. Or you can do this in Terminal.app as follows.
    Turning off IPv6 support for ethernet:
    networksetup -setv6off Ethernet
    Disabling IPv6 for wireless:
    networksetup -setv6off Wi-Fi
