LR5 - lost connection to picture files. Now what?

3 days ago I followed the advice of Barbara Brundage from Elements Magazine and deleted some files from Elements Organizer which were causing people problems. I had previously used organizer for my pictures but LR adopted the jobe about a month ago. Today I upgraded LR from 5.2 to 5.3 and then began editing pictures. When I tried to delete a picture a message came up to the effect that the file could not be permanently deleted from the disk since it could not be found. It offered the possibility of erasing the file permanently still. I chose that and the picture disappeared  and a small box flashed by which said that the file could not be found. The number of files in the folder didn't change.
How do I reconnect to the picture files which are in a stand alone hard drive - And - will the editing I did today be lost of subsequently be connected to the appropriate picture files/
Thanks for your help
David

thank you for your reply.
I do understand that the pictures reside in a library and that what I see in LR is the picture with whatever repairs have been added. Those repairs don’t necessarily reside with the picture.
I understand that if  I move files outside LR that they will be invisible to LR in which case they should have a  red ! beside them. No such red , or any colour symbols appear. I have not  moved any file, files or folders using Organizer or by simply re-locating them on the drive such as by dragging and dropping to a new location. Nor have I changed any file names.
I thought that ONE of the responses I had in the forum said that when I deleted the file from the disk that it would be deleted in Organizer. The author really said, I believe, that the file would be deleted from the source drive but would continue to appear in Organizer in which case a marker would show that the picture was no longer available.
I am editing files which LR sees since the green switch is on. The edits alter the pictures and so I assume that when I “export" them, they will carry the  alterations to the new location.
The problem  remains that when I try to Delete a picture file in LR, instead of the box I used to get which gave me the choice to delete it from the disk and then did that when I selected that choice, I NOW get the message I reported previously "The files are on a Volume that does not support Trash. Would you like to Permanently delete them?”   I select “Permanently delete”, the box closes and another flashes on and off. It says “File could not be found”.
The file Does disappear from the film role beneath my editing screen in LR so perhaps all is well. My problem  is that there was a  change in the process of deleting from simpler to more complex (slower) and confusing since LR can’t seem to find the file it is deleting at this point.
So, is there a way to return to the out of the box process which was clear and quick? Did I do something or might I have done something which caused LR to arbitrarily change its ways?
I reiterate that there are no signs that LR can’t see the files nor have I changed any file names or positions.
Thanks for your help.

  • I lost all my picture file connections

I lost all my picture file connections in Photoshop Elements 11. Have tried reconnect and managage catalogs/repair etc with no luck. I believe that updateing OS to Windows 8.1 has something to do with this. What should I do now?

    There's a lot of information here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4624628
Also, please give us some details ... when you did the update to Windows 8.1, did the photos stay in the EXACT SAME location, or were they moved somehow?
What did you try to reconnect? What happened when you tried?

  • Recovered files; now what?

Hi, there, Mac experts. Me n00b, so I need to ask some basic questions. So my internal hard drive became faulty, and the external hard drive became corrupted. No data was saved, and so now I replaced the internal HD and basically have a new computer. I got Data Rescue 3, did a deep scan and now recovered a whole bunch of files.
    What's next?
I imagine I need to erase and re-format de external HD. But then? Do I just load the recovered files on it, and then ask the Migration Assistant to load all my old data from it? Will that work okay?
    Thank you for your input!
    D

To possibly make life simpler, try to repair your Time Machine drive with Data Rescue 3, and see if Migration Assistant will work again. It is more robust than Disk Utility.
All else fails, like Eric mentioned, you will have to import the salvaged files into the appropriate programs manually. Be warned that some files that are recovered are going to be incomplete or damaged. It is possible that these can cause issues with the programs that use them, and although recovered will still have to be scrapped. You will also find that many of the recovered items cannot be used at all.
Best bet of recovery of your contact data is if you use the MobileMe service or have an iOS device that has this data as well. You just have to make sure you get that data safely off any iOS device before re-syncing with your rebuilt system.
It is not a fun task, I know from experience.

  • All Contacts Lost from Computer, then iCloud, now what?

As above, but I had a backup from a month ago, still lost a lot of added things but it could have been worse. I guess you have to back up iCloud / your Address Book with an archive daily.
The problem is that when I import my remaining contacts back into the Addres Book, they disappear after a few seconds and never end up on my iCloud web page at my iCloud account. Now what???
I tried deleting the iCloud account, re initiating, all sorts of things but no joy.

  • My daughter forgot her passcode, so "iPod is disabled. Connect to iTunes." But iTunes refuses to connect without passcode. Now what?

My daughter forgot her passcode and tried too many times to remember it, so now her iPod is locked with the message "iPod is disabled. Connect to iTunes." I tried connecting it to iTunes, but iTunes says it could not connect "because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPod touch before it can be used with iTunes."
Question 1: What are we doing wrong? Why does the iPod say to connect to iTunes if it CAN'T be connected to iTunes?
Some other threads suggest that the only option is to wipe/restore it. The problem is that she has a lot of photos she would like to rescue before erasing it. The Photostream had not been enabled on her computer, so I enabled it. Shortly thereafter, six photos appeared on her computer. But she says there are many, many more and she really wants them. We have waited weeks for more photos to appear, but no more have shown up after the first six. Why not?
Question 2: Is there anything we can do to coax the iPod to finish sharing the rest of the photos in her Photostream?

    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased. You can't get info off the iPod in its present state

  • 2 ipods on, so many files, now what?

I got both Ipods on the new computer, songs are back on the computer, but even after following the "Multiple Ipods on one computer" (method three) instructions, Itunes is putting things everywhere:(
I made 2 different libraries. One had my songs, the other had my daughter's.
I hold "shift", click on "choose a library", and I'm given 2-5 choices. When I click on my library, I get the list of songs but no Itunes. Same goes for when I click on my daughter's library. Now, if I click on Itunes library (which also has a different icon) I get Itunes with my library and my songs. I can't get it with my daughter's at all. How do I get our libraries to separately go to Itunes? I followed the directions perfectly and I'm still lost. It seems like Itunes created multiple folders (most are empty) and it allows me to create libraries, but I'm not allowed have the libraries (with the actual songs) separately open in Itunes when I select the library I want. What am I doing wrong? Did I miss a step?
Please help...I'm going on 7 hours here. Ugh, it seemed so simple.

I figured it out...when cleaning up files, I tossed her Itunes file (with the actual songs) into the recycle bin. I restored it and all is good, so far. Oy, what a day.

  • ITunes Library damaged. Lost months of work. Now what?

Ok, so I tried to start iTunes a couple of weeks ago and got the "Your iTunes Library is damaged..." problem. I have been searching the web and there forums for a solution but haven't found any solution.
The old tricks: So I tried to delete the newly created "iTunes Library" file, and rename the "..(damages)" file. Also tried the same thing with my Time capsule backups. Same problem every time. So my library is actually lost? I don't think i'm ready to accept that.
Sure my music (16.000 songs) is still there and can be reindexed into a new library. But i've just spent months ranking nearly all of my music. Endless hours have been put in to rank my music to make it easy to listen to the best music through smart playlists and so on. That can't just go away because iTunes has a bug.
So what do I do now Apple? Why is there no tool out there to fix a damaged iTunes Library file? Or at least something to extract song rankings etc? This just ain't good enough.
I need to have this fixed. It's especially annoying since I know that "damaged" file is full of the data i've spent months creating. But I can't get it out of there. It's not like the file is corrupted/non-readable og anything like that.
Please reply to this one Apple. This is pretty bad and it looks like there are hundreds (thousands?) of others having these problems regularly.

Thanks for replying. However, that is not a solution in my case as it results in me loosing all my song rankings (about 14.000 of them). And when trying to copy back older versions of the Library from backup I get the same error message.
    Anyone?

  • Lost connection to AD DC, now can't bring integration back

We've been running 10.5.5 for about 6 months set up with AD integration in the Golden triangle config. Worked well, even using portable user directories and such. Even have a couple Windows boxes with user's directories on the Xserver. We've got four locations, three with an AD DC, and of course this one location with the XServe and 150 or so iMacs.
Yesterday the network to one of the other locations dropped in the wind and rain. (Wet T1 lines, still not repaired and not going to happen soon - there are now large trucks with spools of cable going into manholes just down the street.) Happened that the location that went down was the one with the PDC emulator, which shouldn't have made any difference to the other sites. The couple windows boxes and servers on site here had no problem, they failed over to other DC's. The XServer did NOT like this, within a couple hours users lost the ability to connect to their home dirs (located on the XServe). Upon checking the server, the Directory utility showed the AD domain as not responding. I can go into services and select "Prefer this domain server:" and manually put in one of the other DC's which will get it to connect for a short time, but it bounces between responding and not responding every few minutes, even when using the DC in the same site. In WGM I cannot see the Active Directory domain any longer (error -14002) and all the user and group names that came over from AD now just display as GUIDs. The GUID matches the user/group from AD that it was set to. I haven't made any changes so far other than to manually specify the DC server and a reboot.
Worst case I can probably go through removing the AD integration then setting back up again and then manually setting (writing a script really - but that's not my forte) the rights on the 500+ home directories, but I don't want to resort to that if there is any hope of recovering it without going through all that.
    Any ideas?

Bind server/clients to a local DC?
You run a PDC in OS X when you have an AD?

  • Recovered Deleted Song Files - Now What

On Saturday night, I ventured into amateur land in a big way and inadvertently deleted my entire music library about 15gigs worth. Once you've all have had a laugh and have returned to your chairs you may be able to help me out. I've used Boomerang and recovered the files. Unfortunately, the files are now labled 1 through (in my case) around 4500. I have begun the laborious task of manually relabeling each file with the correct song title and placing them in a newly created Album folder which resides inside the artist folder (also newly created)as this is how my memory tells me Itunes does it. Is there any other way to rectify this? When I click on a file it launches in Itunes and plays correctly which has been a big help in the relabeling process. I'm guessing there is no way to import these files en masse? Does anyone have any experience with this or I am I the only clever enough to delete eight days worth of music? I relabeled the first 400 last night and it took nearly 3 hours. I'm very grateful to have my music files back but I'm hoping someone out there has some time saving magic to share. Thanks.

If it's still an MP3 file and has all the correct tag info, iTunes will rename the files and put them into Artist/Album folders based on what is in the ID3 tags.
*I'm guessing there is no way to import these files en masse?*
Drag them all onto the library icon at the top left of iTunes.

  • Downloaded itunes on new ipad and still can't get past screen to connect to itunes. Now what?

New Ipad2. Downloaded Itunes. Still can't past screen to connect to Itunes to download. Where is menu screen?

OK. You downloaded the file for the install, now you have to double-click the install file and install itunes on your computer. Once you double click the downloaded file, it should step you through the install process. The file will be located in your downloads folder.
Once itunes is installed, start iTunes on your computer then connect the ipad and follow the activation instructions.

  • Flash gives me html file, Now what do I do with it?

    Hi everyone,
This may seem like a stupid question, but here it is:
I've converted and published my video in Flash, and now I

As far as I know, Apple Stores do not sell machine specific system discs.
Replacement System Discs can be obtained from Apple's Customer Support for a nominal fee. You'll need to have the model and serial number of your Mac available.
Since you are not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html

  • T43 2687-d3u bsod determined to be short in bridge connecting hdd to mobo now what?

    Greetings,
So I got the BSOD. Initially thought my hdd died. Purchased a new hdd, still no luck. Determined that the bridge connecting the hdd to the motherboard is loose, presumably from holding the laptop with only 1 hand on the right side of the mouse pad. Now trying to determine my cheapest option. 1 suggestion was to boot off of a external hard drive, but then I loose the portability or make it far more cumbersome.  Another suggestion was to replace the motherboard. Does anyone know if the motherboard in a 15.1inch is the same size and the motherboard in my 14.1inch? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
