LR5 problem.

Just installed - never used it before. Message "An error occurred when attempting to change modules." Haven't a clue what that means. Mac OS 10.9.

  • LR5: Problems migrating catallog from PC to MAC

    Hi all.
    I've been searching all day for a possible fix to my issue. Here are the details, hopefully someone will have more ideas as I'm out.
    I changed from a Windows PC to a Macbook Pro recently and kept my .lrcat for what I tought would be a smooth transition.
    On the Windows 7 system, I had Lightroom 4 with the catalog on the local drive and the pictures on a network drive (NTFS WD Elements, shared through a WD TV Live). My typical workflow would be to copy new JPG files from the SD card (Camera: Nikon 5100) to the shared drive via Wifi (Router: wndr3400) then import them to my Lightroom catalog, edit and export to another folder on the same external hard drive.
    On the MAC running Mavericks I installed LR 5 and moved the old lrcat file to "pictures/lightoom", LR5 upgraded the catalog file and next I updated the folder location to look in the external HDD. But to my surprise all the images (JPG) show no preview and a "!" error that reads "Lightroom has encountered problems with this photo". Then I tried importing the files to a new catalog but will show error "This file appears to be unsupported or damaged".
    All the files are accesible (not corrupted) though Preview in the MAC and curiously if I plug the external drive to the MAC (I have Paragon NTFS installed) and update the folder location within Lightroom, I can edit files so that way it all works fine. I also tried reformating the HDD to HFS+ to no avail and also connecting to the external HDD via cifs instead of smb with the same results.
    Anyone have any ideas on how I could get this to work as it was with the Windows system? Thanks!

    OK, after hours of searching the internet for a possible solution, I finally gave up. Fixed the problem by just copying the old iTunes library from my windows machine to my mac. That was basically what I was trying to avoid, but there seems to be no other way.

  • CC LR5 problems, becoming a major headache.

    I have been looking at this needing a serial number for the last month, I spent two hours just today alone in a chat session with an adobe customer support respresentitive. I have un-installed and re-installed LR 5.4 four times today and working on the 5th install. I was told by this representitive that it was taking to long and I would be receiving an email with a open case number so I could continue to fix this problem, I have yet to receive an email and it has been almost three hours since I chatted with them. As a photographer the software we use is very vital to our jobs, it would be nice if it worked correctly half the time. I am about to be done with Adobe products if I can't get some actual solutions to the problems I am having. I need answers, I don't need links I have been to everyone of them and talked with people sending me to this person and that person within the last month and still no solution or response back. Thank you.

    I keep getting the serial number request for the license agreement. All of my other apps work, I have had no problem with them. LR is the only one. I have been on the phone and chat for I don't know how many hours tyring to get back into my LR. Today alone I have installed and reinstalled so much (5x), and the rep is not telling me or doing anything different. This has been very time consuming process and still do not have a solution, what pissed me off is that he told me it was taking to long to try and get this problem fixed, he lied and said an email would come shortly with a reference number to the open case, I have yet to receive a number which the end of the conversation was at 12p.m. central time four hours ago. To me that is another two hours that I spent on here trying to get this resolved; a complete waist of time. I have been through all the links and several representitives. I am having to pay a  monthly fee but it has not worked for me since I un-installed my "hardcopy" and installed from the cloud,  You can see where my frustration is coming from.

    Having a lot of trouble with my creative cloud account too. Been back and forth with tech support for a month and nothing. Now, LR5, which I own outright, is opening in LR4. I get nothing of LR5. So fed up I can't explain it. Please, someone at leasty help me with the LR5 problem. I am a photojournalist full time and use this software everyday.

    It is just the catalog name that you are seeing at the top an yes it does say Lr4 in it. But it is just a name. You can change it in finder (with Lr closed) but make sire toe rename the preview files as well.
    See I have renamed mine to "working catalog"

    Simply start a new catalog:
    File >> New Catalog
    Choose a new name and save.
    When the empty catalog launches you are ready to start over.

    Gary116 please remove and reinstall Lightroom by following the steps listed in CC desktop lists applications as "Up to Date" when not installed.  The version of Photoshop Lightroom available through the Creative Cloud Desktop application supports your Creative Cloud Membership.

    Did this ever get resolved, as I am having the same issue.  Trying to learn LR5 AFTER a decade using Aperture.   I was able to set up a validated account but when I try to send an e-mail or photo I get the simple " Failed to Send " message.   Using latest version of Mac OS X.

    If you have a DVD version then you have to use the serial number that is associated with the DVD version.  A Cloud subscription number has no relationship to a DVD serial number.

  • Problems exporting as DNG with LR5

    (use a pc)  Just upgraded from LR 3 to 5, for some reason when I export my worked on files to a DNG, some of my changes made from the xmp/raw file do not stay saved when I export as a DNG example the exposure changes are not save. (I do this all the time with LR3, no problems.) Am I missing something? thanks!

    I believe that the problem is that LR5 uses a new process version (called Process Version 2012), which CS3 and CS4 do not understand, and so cannot display your edits. You would need to send a TIF or JPG file to CS3 or CS4 to have the exposure appear properly.
    I have not tried this, but I believe that if you edit the photo in Lightroom 5 but select Process Version 2010 to do your editing, then the DNG export will be readable by CS3 or CS4. Of course, you lose the benefits of Process Version 2012. (use Settings->Process->2010) Note: changing the process version on photos you have already edited will change the appearance of the photo.

    I am working on a Macbook Pro, 8gb with 1 tb
    Recently did external back up.
    Mac was having issues so we ( IT guys ) did a clean install and only brought back in basics.
    ( I was on LR3 and PSE9 ) but we didn't bring it over as mirror copy because there were so many other items on Mac I didn't need.
    I bought Mac with LR3 and PSE9 so I could not do upgrade,
    I instead started the trial today, so we could merge from the external the images to Pictures. ( so it was on external in pictures and now on os-x pictures )
    So LR5 brought all my catalogs in, I even got smug mug to find its catalogs. , but now I am getting ! on every image.
    I have selective chosen the image from external and moved it to OS X  pictures folder.
    Why am I getting the ! on the images. When I right click the ! I get error, LR has encountered problems reading this file.
    when I click find in file folder I get a tiff picture with a loop on top and if I click that I get this... Item “untitled-8547-Edit.tif” is used by OS X and can’t be opened.
    one thing I did just notice is the date on the tiff says, Jan 24th 1984 3am 0 bytes tiff image.   ( what the heck? )
    now the image right beside it to the left is the image ( I can actually see ) and it looks good.
    why is finder bringing up a bogus tiff ?

    Suggestion to all who encounter problems like this: if you've installed 3rd party memory cards (ram), go back to your original ram, or at least the brand of ram that your computuer came with.
    Long story, short:
    I had the same error message in LR5.  It only happened with several images in a given import.  If I deleted all of the images from the import and reimported the images, a different set of images would have the error message.  The images that originally had the message would no longer have the problem.  I deleted and reimported several times while observing the same behavior. 
    Not only did lightroom give me issues, but Bridge had problems reading the files, and the previews of the problem images would not show up in Finder (Mac speak).  This ruled out, to me at least, that it was a software issue.  I went out and purchased a new card reader and had the same problems.  I tried a different card with different images and got the same problems. 
    After I contacted Adobe, they had me upload two files with the error, and they said the files were corrupted due to faulty hardware.  I took my mac book pro (13in early 2011 w/ 10.7.5) to the apple store and they ran a diagnostic test amoung other test and we came up with nothing.  Everything seemed to be good on the hardware side.  After some research the Rep. asked me about my ram (memory cards).  I had in the past installed two 3rd party cards to boost my ram from 4GB to 8GB. The rep. suggested that I go home and test the issue with the original ram my computer came with before we go any farther.  So far, I haven't had any issues.

    At the moment I’m having problems with LR5. Hopefully someone could help me…   
    When I’m in the ‘develop’ module I can’t see the changes I’ll make in the screen.
    For example; when I would like to crop an image the complete image appears in grey and I can’t see the image anymore.
    For example; when I would like to change the lightening from the picture, I can’t see the change I would like to make. Not on the screen and not in the navigator.
    I’ve already reinstalled LR and installed it again, but the problem still isn’t solved.   
    Could somebody please help me?! Many thanks in advanced!!! 

    The video card in your computer has a driver (which is software that allows it to operate). Depending on your computer and what video card it is, you would have to download the most current video driver and install it so that the problem can possibly be fixed.
    You have to look at your computer's specifications and determine what video card is used. That will determine how to find the most current driver.

    Do you get an error message? If so, what does it say?
    Do you get a Blue Screen?

  • Problem importing video files in LR5.4 on mac

    Hello all,
    I have a problem importing ANY video file (mp4, mov, mts) into LR5.4 both from the hard drive or directly from the camera. LR reports an error with a file or, if I have already clicked on "purge cache" in Preferences / File Handling and restarted LR, then LR starts to import but then stops and reports a problem with a dynamic server link. Please help!

  • LR5.4: Problem to browse the imported folder

    Hi Folks
    I'm new to this forum and thanks your advice & comment in advance.
    I'm helping on behalf of my friend to seek your help. 
    The lightroom is running on Windows 8 64bit, recently upgraded to 5.4, and encounter an issue.
    All photo folder (by date) list under 1 directory, e.g. D:\My pictures\, and has 1600+ folders inside 'My pictures' without further grouping by year.
    I took his catalog (from backup) before upgrade (5.3) and able to reply the issue in LR5.4
    1) Open the catalog
    2) Add the new folders 1 by 1
    3) The last few folders is unable to open when clicking on it, a vertical line would be shown from the top of the screen to where i click (as shown in the attachment)
    4) I tried to add the new folder at any combination, and issue happened 'randomly', and couldn't sort out any clues.
    Just wild guessing...will it due to the 'flat structure' folder arrangement, any folks experiencing the same?  The problem didn't exist in LR5.3

    Though i not yet prove it really a bug that have been introduced since LR5.4, but will do suggest to my friend and revert the result.
    It gonna to have some effort in re-organzing the 1600+ folders!

    D3300 needs at least LR 5.4, the latest version is now 5.7. Its a free update.
