LR5: Problems migrating catallog from PC to MAC

Hi all.
I've been searching all day for a possible fix to my issue. Here are the details, hopefully someone will have more ideas as I'm out.
I changed from a Windows PC to a Macbook Pro recently and kept my .lrcat for what I tought would be a smooth transition.
On the Windows 7 system, I had Lightroom 4 with the catalog on the local drive and the pictures on a network drive (NTFS WD Elements, shared through a WD TV Live). My typical workflow would be to copy new JPG files from the SD card (Camera: Nikon 5100) to the shared drive via Wifi (Router: wndr3400) then import them to my Lightroom catalog, edit and export to another folder on the same external hard drive.
On the MAC running Mavericks I installed LR 5 and moved the old lrcat file to "pictures/lightoom", LR5 upgraded the catalog file and next I updated the folder location to look in the external HDD. But to my surprise all the images (JPG) show no preview and a "!" error that reads "Lightroom has encountered problems with this photo". Then I tried importing the files to a new catalog but will show error "This file appears to be unsupported or damaged".
All the files are accesible (not corrupted) though Preview in the MAC and curiously if I plug the external drive to the MAC (I have Paragon NTFS installed) and update the folder location within Lightroom, I can edit files so that way it all works fine. I also tried reformating the HDD to HFS+ to no avail and also connecting to the external HDD via cifs instead of smb with the same results.
Anyone have any ideas on how I could get this to work as it was with the Windows system? Thanks!

OK, after hours of searching the internet for a possible solution, I finally gave up. Fixed the problem by just copying the old iTunes library from my windows machine to my mac. That was basically what I was trying to avoid, but there seems to be no other way.

  • I have problems transferring files from PC to Mac and from Mac to Mac

I have problems transferring files from PC to Mac, and from Mac to Mac.  PC to PC is fine.  Nothing but problems with the Mac.  One example:
While working on my PC, I open shared folders on an external HDD connected to the Mac.  I click on paste to move the files.  I get an error after a few seconds to a minute of trying to move several files from my PC Win 7 to Mac OS Maverick, that there is a file already at the destination on Mac. This statement is true, but it was just put there because I am copying them over in that same action.  It reads 0Kb and wasn't there before I started.  Then I get an error: The Action Cannot be completed because the folder is open in another program.  Close the folder or file and try again..
Whether I click on it a bunch right of way or wait, it still takes about 45 seconds. I have to do it with every file and it only happens when copying from a PC to Mac.  I have even restarted both computers so nothing is using any files.  If I copy one file at a time, I don't get any error.
So I have one file to move, no problem.  If move 5 files, The first will go fine, but it shows all 5 files in folder at once.  All other files than the first show 0kb. I get the file already existing error once it starts the second file transfer, and I select move and replace.  Then I get The Action Cannot be completed because the folder is open in another program.  I wait or click repeatedly until it starts to move file.  That file will then show something other than 0kb.  When it is done, the error process starts all over.  I tried checking the PC with unlocker, but the files do not show themselves locked on the PC.

Its not only French. Even certain characters in English will come across as gobblydegook from 1 platform to another. I see this in emails that likely were composed in Word & the characters don't come across.
Not sure if this is still true, but years ago someone explained that there is a standard character set & then I think its extended characters & those vary from platform to platform or language to language, etc.

  • I just migrated everything from an old Mac to a new one, but now Acrobat Professional will not launch. I get an error message: "Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched at this time......"

I just migrated everything from an old Mac to a new one, but now Acrobat Professional will not launch. I get an error message: "Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched at this time......"

I used "Migration Assistant" to send everything from my old mac to my new which included my copy of Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional. I tried downloading an update but when it asked me to find the version of acrobat to replace it was grayed out and I was unable to select it. My OS is 10.9.4

  • Downloaded tv show episodes. Bought the entire season and after watching one and downloaded first 4-5 they disappeared.  This was during the time I was trying to migrate stuff from an older mac mini. Help?

I downloaded several episodes of the tv show "touch."  I purchased the entire season and had watched one show.  It took quite some time for each show to download, but I had downloaded 4-5.
About this time (within the last two weeks) I was trying to use migration assistant to migrate information from my older mac mini and my macbook.  while I was able to move things from my older mac mini I noticed that the tv show went missing.
Also I purchased a program called 'Touched" in a season pass.  After I downloaded a couple of episodes I watched one and continued to download the episodes as they were available.
I also purchased a program called "Tune Up" which elminates duplicates of iTunes songs.  I have a large collection and this helped to get rid of the duplicates faster than clicking on them one at a time.  Maybe this had something to do with the tv shows episodes and the podcasts disapeering.
    Any ideas?

As far as the TV series being in 1080p then that is upto the content provider and some older seasons are in 720p or only SD eg Stargate
It may well be that the season you want is only available in 720p

  • My CS products don't work after migrating them from an old mac to a new mac. Any ideas?

Help! I bought a new imac, and used the migration process to move everything from the old mac to the new mac. But now none of my CS products (eg Indesign) will work. I use CS5.5 and CS6. The CS6 says I can run "a trial version" - which is absurd, given that I have a legitimately bought version on disk (that cost over £1000!). The CS5.5. icon just bounces for a couple of times then closes before fully opening.
Adobe will not help, because they say CS6 is "an old product".
I am desperate - does anyone have any ideas?

Migration does not work with Adobe products. There are too many components in too many places, and they don't get copied properly.
You'll need to use the Adobe Cleaner Tool to remove what you copied:

Then download a fresh copy of CS6:

  • Migrating LR from Windows to Mac

I just got my new MacBook Pro, which I'm in the process of migrating to from my Windows desktop. My plan is to move my entire photo collection (originals) onto an external HDD along with my LR catalog and preview files. Then, I plan to install LR onto the Mac and point it at the existing catalogs from my Windows computer. Here's my problem- what is the best way to move the originals? Do I use a move function from within LR, or do I move the whole collection of originals, and then point LR to the new location and rebuild all of the connections?
My current file structure looks like this: My Pictures->Year->Month->Date->Edited (where Edited is my exported final draft with no XMP)
Thanks for the help on this.
    Adam

    John-
Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure I completely understand what you mean. I know what the .lrcat file is, but when would I double click? After a manual move of the originals?
I'm already sure that I want to work from the external vs. the MBP's internal. I may move small collections onto the internal at times if speed becomes an issue, but otherwise I plan to keep everything organized on the external.
    Thanks again.

  • Problems transferring photos from iphone to mac, iphoto says there is nothing to download...

Hi, I need to transfer photos from iphone to mac. My mac can 'see' my iphone with iphoto open, but the box says there are no photos to download. Could anyone help me please? This has never been a problem before (it was fine about 2 weeks ago). I've tried turning both devices off and have spent a couple of hours trying to search for this problem on the internet. I can't remember when I updated to OS 7.1 but I guess that was recently; could this be the problem? Thank you so much.

This has nothing to do with iOS 7.1

  • Migrating Applications from Windows to Mac with new iPhone

My original first gen iPhone died a horrible death a few months ago. I had always synced it to my Windows laptop. I just recently acquired a new iPhone and want to sync it instead to my iMac. However, I have a dozen or so iPhone applications that I still want and I cannot figure out how to migrate the applications that are recognized by iTunes on my Windows machine and transfer them to my iMac. I even attempted to download an application I already purchased from my iMac, and I was charged the fee for the iPhone application instead of it just recognizing i had previously purchased the application.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

*2) restoring the ipod as a Mac device*
Connect the iPod to the Mac and restore it in iTunes. Restoring in iTunes for Mac will erase and reformat the iPod's hard drive, reload the software with the mac version and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes

  • Migration issue from old crashed mac

I have an old mac 10.4 Tiger OS about 9 years old. It crashed and I cannot access anything on it. It boots up but the screen just shows fractured lines. So I just bought a new mac.
Want to know if there is a way to access the old data from my new mac. I have them hooked up with ethernet cable but migration asst is not accessing the old mac.
If anyone has a way around this I'd appreciate it.

Chances are your old Mac has a Firewire connection. If your new Mac has Firewire connect the two Macs with a Firewire cable. Then start up the new Mac. After it has started start the old Mac in Target Disk Mode by holding down the T key when you start it up. The old Mac will then appear on the desktop of your new Mac just like an attached hard disk. You can then copy files from the old to the new.
If your new Mac does not have Firewire chances are it has a Thunderbolt port. You'll need an adapter (or two) depending on the type of Firewire port is on the old Mac.

  • Migrating bookmarks from windows to mac

Can I transfer my bookmarks from a windows platform to a mac platform and if so how do I do it?

    Hello,
There are two ways of doing this:
    1. '''Firefox Sync''' - if you want to continue using both Windows and Mac versions of Firefox then you can use Firefox Sync to keep your bookmarks and other settings synchronised between the devices. See here for set up instructions: [[How do I set up Firefox Sync?]]
    2. '''Export as html and import''' - if you want to move permanently from Windows to Mac then I think the cleanest thing would be to export the bookmarks from Windows to HTML. Follow these instructions: [[Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks]] then transfer the HTML file to your mac and import them into Firefox there. Follow these instructions for the import: [[Import Bookmarks from a HTML file]]
I hope that helps. Let me know if not.
