LR5: time offset during import of photos - why?

I import my photos from the camera with storing in folders by date. Now I discovered that photos taken before midnight are stored in the folder for the next day.
After some examination I found that the time shown when hovering over the photos in the import dialogue are always displayed with an offset of +2:00 to the real time (as set in the camera) when the photo was taken. So all photos taken after 22:00 are stored in the next day's folder.
My conclusion is that LR obviously takes the time zone offset from UTC (in my case: CET Summer Time, which is UTC+2) during the import of photos. I remember to have seen this the first time on travel in New Zealand last year when importing photos to my PC which I had set to the local time zone while on travel, so this offset was 12 hours.
When displaying the photos later in the Library or Develop module, the time is shown correctly, so obviously taken "as is" from EXIF/XMP.
Is this a known problem? I could not find a place in the settings of LR to control this behaviour.

I don't think there is an import setting. It is possible to batch change the capture time. See this video tutorial.

    i can't import vertical photos:why?

Not on the origina as it will essentially be a tif in jpeg's clothing.  But if you make an edit it will go thru a jpeg compression. Whether you'll be able to see the reduction in resolution is another matter.
I ran a test and changed a tiff file to .jpg and it was useabel in iPhoto, Acorn, Xee, GraphicConverter but not PhotoShop or Photoshop Elements.  So you can change the extension on all of those portrait photos but be sure to convert to a JPG when you export them out of iPhoto for use.  Don't know how other apps will react to such a hybred file.
One plan of action would be to import them into iPhoto and then export out as tiffs  right away. Then import back in and see if all is OK.

  • Error Message during Import of Photos into Movie????

I am having problems importing photos into my movie. Once I have dragged the photo into the desired position in the clip viewer it comes up with an error message - "Error during Import - the file could not be imported (-33)"
I am importing from an album in my iphoto with the Ken Burns Effect on. Even with the Ken Burns effect off, the same message appears
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

-33 means "directory full", which means there are too many files in a folder.
iMovie supports up to 999 photos in the same project. If you have less, there is a problem with your hard drive. Boot from you OS X install CD/DVD and run Disk Utility to repair your hard drive.

  • Time Shift During Import from Canon  Vixia HF S21

I imported video from my Canon Vixia HF S21. All time stamps indicated in iMovie '09 are 7 hours early. That is, video shot at 10:57 AM (in the real world) is shown by iMovie '09 (following import) as having been shot at 3:57 AM.
    Here's the "weird" part:
    1) Time and date settings on the camera are accurate.
    2) Time zone (Pacific) and daylight savings (Daylight, not Standard) settings on camera are also accurate.
    3) Time and date settings on my Mac Pro are accurate.
    4) Time zone (Pacific) and daylight savings (Daylight, not Standard) settings on my Mac Pro are also accurate.
Bug right? I figured out a workaround (Choose "Adjust Clip Date and Time..." from the File menu in iMovie), but it's a pain to do this on a large number of clips.
Is there a better solution/a real fix to this?

As you can see, the camera is showing up as a drive in the devices field.  Any ideas why it would do that instead of showing up in cameras?

  • Lightroom 4 is freezing during import of photos

The whole program is very sluggish, but when I go to import photos, is freezes while acquiring the thumbnails.  If it comes out of the freeze, when I click import, it takes 30 minutes to get one photo then freezes again.  If I cancel and close the program, it will not start again unless I restart the computer.  Help??

I am using Windows 7 64 bit and LR 4.1.  I am on a HP Touchsmart Desktop.  This problem does not occur on my laptop which runs the same OS.  I have tried importing tethered, from my SD card using the card reader on the computer, and also from CD/DVD.  This happens every time I try to import using one of these methods.  It does not happen when I import photos already on the computer.  It takes about a half hour to import 1 image and then it just seems to quit.  I have tried navigating to a different module, etc. and the import never finishes.  While it isn't a huge deal to copy the photos to the computer first, I want the program to work correctly.  I read in another thread that Adobe directed someone to try disabling their USB ports one by one because there is a conflict somewhere.  I am unwilling to do this as I use all of my ports and I do not want to mess with the computer....It worked fine with LR 3.  I would just like to know what the problem is.  I have read on other sites after searching this problem that a lot of people are experiencing the same thing.  I would like to know if Adobe is looking into this and if there is something we can do to fix it.  I am curious if it could be a problem with the download/installation of the program itself, since I do not have the same issue on the laptop.

  • Memory card was removed during import of photos

Is there any way to get to photos on a memory card that was previously "removed" probably while import photos was processing? Many precious photos on card. Our iMac is very slow, probably low on memory, and the "user" pulled the card out in frustration.
Now iPhoto says the card is not readable and the camera does not recognize the card either. Are our photos lost?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    probably low on memory
If you mean free space on your hard drive then, yes that can cause a lot of troubles for you. It's strongly recommended that a minimum of 10 GB be maintained for optimum system and application operation. That much space is needed for cache files and virtual memory swap files which allow the system and apps to function efficiently. Also if you'r low on free space the Finder has to work hard to find space in the fragmented free areas to save the images.
If you're low on free space I'd make it a priority to free up a minimum of 10 GB. Then try MediaRECOVER on the memory card. I've used it and it works very well.

  • When I receive an email with photo I have to click several times and wait to view photo. Why is this

Waiting too long for download of photo from email ..

    Hello sentrysam1,
Need more information before I can provide an answer to your question.
    1. Does this only happen with photos and not other attachements?
    2. How big are the photos?
    3. Do you receive your email via a website or an standalone application on your computer?
3a. What is the application and version you are running if standalone application?
    4. Does other photos stored locally on your computer open up slowly?
    5. When the photo is opening slowly, does other aspects of your computer act slow? (e.g opening another web address)
    6. Who is your email provider?

  • Lightroom wont optimize after accidental computer shutdown during import

My computer was accidentally shut off during import of photos into Lightroom.  Now, when Lightroom is turned on, all photos are gray boxes.  I am currently trying to optimize the catalog, but it is taking over an hour. help

Try, when you’re not running LR, deleting your previews folder, in case it is corrupted.  The LR previews are stored in a FOLDER called catalog-name Previews.lrdata.  You can just delete the entire folder.  DON’T DELETE the .LRCAT file which is your LR catalog.

  • Error during importing photos

For some reason, I get an "error during import" message when i try to drag my photos into my movie. (i've done it before successfully) They show up in my photo library when i click on the photos tab in imovie, but it wont let me import them. any thoughts?

WHen I tried to drag all my pictures of that Album (or one at a time) from the iMovie picture pane displaying that Album, I get an error
Why are you doing this? Every album (in fact, every photo, whether in an album or not) in your current iPhoto library is directly available from the pop-up menu when the "photos" tab is selected in iMovie. There is nothing that needs to be imported. Only photos that have not been previously incorporated into iPhoto need to be dragged to iMovie.

  • Why can I no longer import EDITED photo from my iPad to my Mac using Image Capture from Snapseed app?

Why can I no longer import EDITED photo from my iPad to my Mac using Image Capture? This is farcical and a real problem having to email them individually to myself and is totally inefficient time wise compared to previously using image capture! Why change this when it was working well and very quickly until the latest change. Now I have to move files from downloads into an appropriate folder, after emailing each individual edited image to myself, then I have to open in Photoshop and rename the file. This is ludicrous and takes forever to do!

Thank you! I suppected it would be in the settings somewhere. I' ve much to learn...get myself into trouble pushing buttons I don't really understand.

There has been a change in where Firefox searches for plugins and the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder is no longer scanned for plugins, so Firefox won't find them anymore if they are installed in the plugins folder instead of the "browser\plugins" folder that Firefox now scans.
You can set the plugins.load_appdir_plugins pref to true on the about:config page to make Firefox scan the "<install>/plugins/" directory for plugins like the WMP plugin (np-mswmp.dll).
You can alternatively move plugins from "<install directory>\plugins\" to "<install directory>\browser\plugins\" (create this folder when missing) to make Firefox find them again.

  • Most times when I import photos from my desktop or dropbox to iPhoto, iPhoto will keep the title I created for the image as the display title under the image. but occasionally it displays the filename instead and I have to go back through and reenter

most times when I import photos from my desktop or dropbox to iPhoto, iPhoto will keep the title I created for the image as the display title under the image. but occasionally it displays the filename instead and I have to go back through and reenter the title in iPhoto. why the inconsistency? running OS 10.9.5 and using iPhoto 9.5.1

Try this:  select one of the photos that are showing the wrong title and use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Title to File Name menu option.
See if that will put the name that you want under the thumbnail.

  • When importing raw photos from Nikon D90 aperture seems to automatically adjust exposure darker. why? How can I stop this?

When importing raw photos from Nikon D90 aperture seems to automatically adjust exposure darker. why? How can I stop this?

This is typical of the default NEF RAW conversion of Aperture and the best thing you can do is set up a few presets to apply to all of your RAW images to get a tone curve and colors that is pleasing to you as a default. The in camera JPEGs / embedded JPEGs (that you first see during import) are treated to the Nikon "Picture Control" settings that are set on the camera - the RAW's as interpreted by Aperture are not.
I have written extensively and even have a few downloadable presets on my site - look for NEF...

  • IPhoto crashed during import and deleted photos from import

I tried to use iPhoto today to import 400+ photos from a recent holiday from my iPhone. When prompted I chose to delete the photos from my phone. When iPhoto was in the 'finishing import' stage it crashed and I was forced to force quit it. I assumed that because it said the import was complete and then asked if I wanted the photos deleted it had stopped working during the deleting and the photos would be safe in my iPhoto library. However, when I went into my library, none of the photos had been imported and all but 40 had been deleted from my phone. At the moment I stand to lose 400+ family photos.
Is there anyway to recover them?
My last backup of my iPhone included them on our family computer (I'm currently at university) - would this help? I wouldn't want to restore my phone from this backup becasue I've now got new information on the phone (incl. more photos) which I don't want to lose.
Also, I tried to import these photos in order to make sure I had them saved before upgrading to iOS6. Would doing this affect the temporary files which (I assume) the photos still are on my phone, albeit hidden? Would using my phone in other capacities (i.e. taking photos, texting, using internet, calls etc.) effect the data? Or am I wrong and the photos are in temporary files on my laptop?
    Thanks

First try the following to make sure they are not in the library but just not getting recognized by iPhoto:  make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • LR5 Import Issue: Photos do not show in import window

When trying to import CR2/JPEG files into LR5, the import window shows the file folders empty even though I can see the files in windows explorer.  I've also importing them from different locations (From the camera, memory card, hard drive) and still shows up blank.  The kicker is I can open/import them through canon DPP and LR 4.4.
Here are some specifics of my system:
    Tested on Windows 7 64bit
Running administrative account with no permission issues
I've uninstalled/installed LR5 several times which didn't resolve the issue
I've tried importing an upgrade of my existing LR4.4 catalog and also with a new catalog.
I created a video that captures my normal workflow.  As you can see, LR5 cannot see any of the photos (CR2 and JPG) from the memory card or hard drive but LR4.4 can see them both with no issues.  Any help would be great.

I don't read that you have atttempted to reset your preference file. That would be my next troubleshooting step. http://www.lightroomforums.net/showthread.php?14226-Resetting-(or-Trashing-)-the-Lightroom -Preferences-file
