LR5 vs ACR developing capabilities?

are the developing capabilities completely equal when it comes to gamut and histogram between ACR and LR5 (5.?) or to get equality do I have to develop in soft proof mode in LR5?

ACR’s histogram is computed differently than LR’s:
The histogram in LR is based on internal working colorspace that can’t be changed, unless you’re in Softproof mode.
The histogram in ACR is based on whatever output colorspace you have set in the Workflow Options at the bottom, more like being in LR’s Softproof mode.
So if you’re editing so as not to clip your output colorspace, then maybe ACR is easier or LR-Softproofing is better.
I do my general edits in LR without working about clipping of anything, then depending on my image content and where I plan to send my output, I may Softproof a virtual copy for that one device-and-media’s color profile.
If you are only ever sending your output to one device, it may more efficient to have your histogram be in terms of that output device’s colorspace, but judgments about the preferability of LR to ACR editing shouldn’t be generalized from this one special case.

  • LR5 and ACR glacially slow; tried everything

I built a custom PC for photo editing and it has been a profound disappointment. Performance with both Adobe Camera RAW through Bridge CC and Lightroom 5 are glacial. Ten seconds for a preview, 6 seconds for a 1:1 zoom, 4-5 seconds for a visual response to each individual adjustment, etc.
    Here are key components:
    OS - Windows 8.1 PRO 64-bit
    CPU - AMD FX-6350 CPU
    Mobo - AsRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
    RAM - 32GB Crucial Ballistix RAM DDR3 1600
    Boot SSD - Samsung 840 250GB MZ-7TD250BW SSD
    Footage SSD - Kingston SV300S37A/240G 240GB SSD
    Video Card - EVGA 02G-P4-3658-KR 2GB GTX 650 Ti
    Lightroom Version - 5.3 64-bit
    Adobe Camera RAW CC
Here are steps I've taken to alleviate issue, all without success:
    Optimized catalog, LR5 settings, etc
    Updated video driver
    Reinstalled Lightroom
    Reinstalled Windows 8.1
Transitioned footage from 7200rpm HDD to new SSD
Overclocked PC from 3.9ghz to 4.3ghz
Converted RAW files to DNG (Sony a57 is my camera model)
    Created new catalog
    Increased LR cache to 64gb
    Installed Windows 7 for comparison
Developed new smart, standard, and 1:1 previews
Deleted preferences folder and started anew
    Changed monitor color profiles (Acer H226HQLbid > sRGB 2.1 > sRGB 4)
Created new catalog with only ~50 images
Ran Memtest86; no RAM errors. Speed, timing, voltage are at proper stock values
    Updated SSD firmware
Secure-erased and reformatted OS and footage SSD drives
Ensured that 'auto-write to XMP' was deactivated
Ensured that 'Default' metadata setting was active
None of these steps have resulted in any noticeable improvement. LR5 hangs, crashes, and lags upon every single adjustment. Adobe Camera RAW CC behaves the same way. I am desperate.

    I AM SO HAPPY!
As I mentioned earlier, I deleted Avast Antivirus in favor of the stock Windows 8.1 AV, called 'Windows Defender'.  My malware program is (and has been) MalwareBytes.
I've been throwing adjustments at LR5 like Ali jabs on Frazier... what a breeze.  Changing AV programs has solved the issue.
This computer is horsing through lengthy edit sessions while immediately providing visual response to my changes.  Applications of VSCO presets take ~4-5 seconds to complete, but that's not much of a holdup considering how many adjustments go into those presets.
I've had some other minor issues in the past with Avast (sometimes interferes with Windows Installer).  This, however, is the exclamation point on my official "DO NOT RECOMMEND!" stamp.  With Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit and Lightroom 5 64-bit, Avast Antivirus (in my experience) was at fault for all of the sluggishness, crashing, and hanging.
Sincerely, thank you all so much for your help.  Several of you provided intelligent troubleshooting suggestions; thank you.  This was a tremendously frustrating issue and your help has seen to its resolution.  If you stop by Tacoma, WA, I'll buy any of you a beer!

  • ACR Develop Settings feature not working

I have been using Bridge and Camera Raw to process images. I make adjustments from one image to many others using the Develop Settings feature. I don't know what changed or why, but when I now open a raw file in Bridge, Photoshop opens, and I seem to be working in Photoshop's ACR, instead of Bridge's ACR. When I click "Done," I go back to Photoshop and not Bridge, and the Develop Settings menu is grayed out. Right clicking doesn't work because Develop Settings is not even listed there. I have checked all the settings for Bridge and ACR and Photoshop, and I can't find anything that is different or not selected. I think my program might be corrupted.
Anyone have any ideas? I am running Windows XP 64 bit edition with 8gbs of RAM. I've been using this system since February with no problem. Help!!! I have work to do!!!

I found another post with regard to a completely different problem, but the solution suggested was to purge the cache for the folders, one by one. I purged the cache for the folder where I started having the problem, and now everything seems to be working well again.
    I'm using CS3 with Bridge 2.1.1.9

  • Finding files by develop settings

Probably a question for Bridge users, but that forum is pretty useless, and it relates to Camera Raw, so I'm asking here...
In Bridge, you can search for files by certain EXIF or file metadata, and filter Contents by a few more statistics, like orientation or aspect ratio. However, I've never found a way of selecting files with specific raw development settings, like Exposure = 0.00, or Clarity = 20.
I could use the operating system search instead to search XMP sidecars for text strings, but then there would be no way to easily and quickly work on the resulting files as a batch, as far as I can see.
    Any suggestions?

    Warunicorn wrote:
I know you can filter by exposure by using the Filter panel (natch), which is enabled by default in the lower left corner in Bridge CC.
Otherwise, you can create any keyword you want on the lower right Keywords panel, apply them to selected images, then use the Filter panel using the "Keywords" element containing your customized keywords.
Exposure? That must be new in CC, unless you mean "Exposure Time", which is the EXIF shutter speed, not the Camera Raw Exposure setting.
Keywords doesn't help me identify ACR develop settings.

  • ACR 8.7.1 Image Saturation issues...

I just upgraded my CS to the latest versions ( CS6, LR5, and ACR 8.7.1) and when I open an image in ACR it is pretty blown out ( saturation is very high ).  When I open the image in LR or Photoshop it looks ok, but the ACR image is pretty bad.  Anyone else ever seen this?  I took a set of pictures of a Greytag color chart and then opened them in LR, PS, and ACR.  The LR and PS match but the ACR image is much higher saturation and lower contrast.  Re-installed the software over the course of the day and don't seem to be able to fix this one...

Are you opening OLD images or recent images.  You may need to check Previous Conversion.
Try resetting ACR to Defaults.  To reset to defaults, while in ACR...

  • This Development Process Technique

"In the post-process toning and balancing of the uneven light in the alleyway, I developed the raw file with different density to use the natural light instead of dodging and burning. In effect to recreate what the eye sees and get a larger dynamic range," he said.
Some of you might be familiar with this recent image captured by photojournalist Paul Hansen in Sweden.  The article claiming that it is NOT a composited image is located here:
    http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2013/05/14/183983184/photographer-defends-prize-winnin g-photo-of-gaza-funeral
So my question is, how did he accomplish this, exactly?
Two different RAW developed images, at different settings, layered on top of each other in PS?  Does anyone know?
I mean, to be quite honest I'm pretty good at PS.  But I want to know what is meant by his comment quoted above.  (We're all continually learning Photoshop, even after 15 years of using it professionally.)
    Anyone?
    Thank you.

    VERY interesting.
The statement is vague, but I get the impression that he's saying he did virtually everything in the raw converter, noting specifically the use of the phrase "developed the raw file".
    Assuming Camera Raw 7.x...
The "with different density" part may imply the use of the Adjustment Brush tool, which allows you to locally apply different development parameters.  All the data is from the raw file; it's not "painted" per se, but Hansen may have just brought out the visibility of darker parts by applying different parameters locally.  Same deal with dimming the bright sky.
Beyond that, don't forget that Camera Raw has adjustments that specifically target whites, highlights, shadows, and blacks, and it makes the transitions between them look as natural as possible.
I'm thinking that Hansen just used the latest and greatest development tools in Camera Raw, and those "analyzing" the photo and claiming it was composited or faked are simply out of touch with the most modern raw file development capabilities.
It's been clear for a long time that any number of radically different images can be wrung out of the very same exposure data.

  • Can I use NetBeans 3.6  to develop J2EE Apps

    Hi
I downloaded and installed NetBeans 3. 6 and J2EE 1.4 (Sun AppServer 8), I have read some articles on the web which say that I can use NetBeans for developing J2EE, I downloaded the updates from the NetBeans sites of integrating NetBeans with the J2EE server. I don't know why but i cannot use NetBeans to develop the EJB classes.
I am not sure if i have to modify any classpath's or options in NetBeans as i didn't find any info on that..
    will appreciate any help !!!!!!!!!!!!
    regards
    kudroch

The current plugin integrates the Sun Java System Application Server with Netbeans. It does not extend the development capabilities of NetBeans.
It doesn't include the capability to create and deploy EJBs.

  • Defringing with Camera RAW 3 and PSE5

I'm new to the mysteries of RAW files having just bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ50. I love the ability to zoom to 12X optical. However, against a sky background, there is considerable colour fringing. The RAW processing software that came with the camera has a lens aberration correcting tool, but the software is a pig to use and the help files assume a degree in jargon! I much prefer the Camera Raw plug-in in PSE5 but realise that the lens aberration tab is part of its big brother CS3. Is there a work around that anyone knows of using PSE5? Or any other suggestions?
Many thanks for your help, in anticipation
    John davis

Might I suggest you consider using Lightroom? It has the full develop capabilities as does ACR in CS3 (or will when Lr 1.1 is released).
And if you do not much care for the raw processing software that came with your camera you should download and try Lr. It is a much cheaper alternative to an upgrade to CS3.

  • Camera raw changes color in adobe bridge and photoshop

Hi all, I am quite new to use RAW. I have raw files that I want to edit. Unfortunately, the moment I click on the raw files, the color changes.
Is there anything I should do to the color setting?
I am using a canon 20d and Adobe Photoshop, Bridge CS 3 and Adobe Camere Raw 4.0

The image is indeed rife with red color.
The fact that the embedded JPEG isn't quite as oversaturated with red as Adobe's conversion with the lowest color temperature of 2000 just says that Canon's conversions have more range at the low-end of the color temperature setting.
This is the color from the embedded JPEG.  Clearly it's dominated by a reddish-orange color, though not as red as that from Adobe's software.
This is the color from Adobe Camera Raw's conversion at the (low-end minimum) color temperature of 2000:
This is the photo converted with Canon DPP using "click white balance" on the bridge beam on the left:
Note, however, that (though the dropper seems to have incredible range) DPP does not allow you to specifically SET a color temperature lower than 2500K, which yields this color:
The bottom line here is that the "Click White Balance" function in Canon's DPP has far more range than ACR, where even the white balance dropper "mins out" at 2000K.
That's something the Adobe folks may want to look into, to extend the range of ACR's capabilities to suit this kind of IR photography.

  • Is there a way to read/write original .xmp settings of a CR2 loaded as smart object onto a .psd layer?

Hello all. This has been asked in varying degrees before, but many of the discussions I found relative to my question are from the period 2010 to 2013. Thought I would throw this out there again medio 2014 to see if anything new has developed that I'm somehow missing.
    Here's the situation:
    1. In the filesystem, a CR2 file and a sidecar .xmp file with ACR settings applied via Bridge (CS6).
    2. CR2 file is opened in Photoshop (CS6) as a smart object (.xmp sidecar settings are applied in the process).
    3. CR2 file and .xmp now exist on a .psd layer as a smart object...in some unknown form.
    4. File is saved as .psd
    My question is this:
Is there ANY way at all via Bridge and/or Photoshop scripting to read/write/access/touch/poke/prod the original ACR "development" settings, originally stored in the .xmp sidecar file, that apparently now exist in some form on the smart object layer in the .psd? Via scripting in Bridge, one can alter the metadata on this saved .psd file, no problem, but this is not the same .xmp data that is being referenced by the image loaded as a smart object onto the .psd layer in that file. Where is this second set of data? Can it be accessed?
Any info, enlightenment would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    No, not too late.
InDesign is for layout for press in this case.
Photoshop is for design, which is using the .jpg's.
I'm half way there, but stuck at:
Getting a file location reference when the .jpg is first brought into PS as a layer.
Getting a script to write the location of the file into the medata for the PSD in some field
Reading back the metadata file location for the .jpg and bringing it back into the PSD again.
Any help would really be appreciated.
I can make the completed script(s) available when its complete, as this has possibilities for other uses, batch process, and more.

  • Initiating Photoshop CS4 batch from Bridge sometimes ignores RAW xmp settings

This happens a lot using both my work PC (XP 64) and home PC (Vista 64), but not always...and I have not been able to track down exactly how to fix this.
What happens is I try to launch a batch process for RAW photos taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark II (develop settings already set in xmp files using Adobe Camera RAW from Bridge). The actions in the batch process execute correctly, but the resulting files appear to have completely ignored my ACR develop settings. This happens if I launch the batch process in either version of Photoshop CS4 (64 or 32 bit).
My only solution is to carefully watch Photoshop as files get loaded by the batch process and abort the batch if one opens without the correct develop settings (not always easy to discern...sometimes I have to wait for the process to save the file so I can toggle back and forth between the images in Bridge). I then restart Bridge and/or Photoshop until I can start a batch process that opens the image correctly. Once a single file has opened with the correct settings, subsequent files open as expected...so the rest of the batch process will complete.
Has anyone else seen this phenomenon? This is really annoying as it never happened to me in CS or CS2.
