LR5 workflow - making it work with PSE10

Am migrating from using PSE10 exclusivly, to using LR5 first and then PSE only as needed. I shoot JPG and RAW. Not sure how to handle my PSE catalogue which now contains 80K pictures... Can I get LR to use the same catalogue? and if so, will it add both the jpgs and the Raw?

You can upgrade your PSE10 catalog to a LR catalog. This is not the same as having PSE and LR "use the same catalog" (your words) as there is no way to make that happen. There is now one catalog for each, and any work done in one catalog is not known by the other; thus if you do this, ther recommendation is that from this point forward, you use the LR catalog.
Using both JPGs and RAWs of the same image is an option in Lightroom you have to select. File->Preferences->General tab, check Treat JPG files next to RAW as separate photos

Making iSight work with Windows Vista on VirtualBox

I have a MacBook Pro with Windows Vista installed on the VirtualBox platform. The only problem I have is that it will not work with the iSight camera. I need the cam for video conferencing on a webring, and I do have to run the ring in Windows. When I start the ring, the camera comes on but I never get an image. The image screen just says "Initializing" and shows a counter showing the seconds elapsed. Is there a driver I can install, or some sort of workaround?

Then you need to get at least the Snow Leopard Install Disk at the $29 price.
The Original Disks will be grey and are Model Specific.
That is to say that any Grey disks for an iMac for example are only useful to Reinstall the OS on another iMac from the same Production range - say Early 2008

Making mongrel_rails_persist work with Macports

I have just installed Ruby, Rails and some other packages that I needed using macports.
Unfortunately it seems that the script provided by Apple to make a mongrel service persistent across restarts only work with the factory installed Ruby and Rails.
I have tried to change the path at the top of the scripts mongrelrailspersist and mongrel_rails etc but it seems that there are a lot of dependencies involved like ruby-cocoa which macport installation failed on me.
Can anyone provide info on how to get the mongrelrailspersist to work with macports installed Ruby, Rails and mongrel or how to configure the apache config file etc directly so that the mongrel server will start automatically?

just realised that the previous solution is not very good as it breaks the mongrelrailspersist restart.... command.
A better solution I found is to
1) install dnssd gem using macports
2) change the script header in /usr/bin/mongrelrailsserver and /usr/bin/mongrel_rails from
#!/usr/bin/ruby or #!/System/Library...
to
#!/opt/local/bin/ruby
or whichever directory that you installed the macports ruby in.
The original Apple's version of mongrelrailspersist should be used.
Remove the hacked version of mongrelrailspersist if you did the previous hack.

Workflows are not working with UAG

Dear Support,
I've developed a SharePoint Designer 2010 platform based workflow which contains 2 stages. First stage contains 'Start Feedback Process' whereas the next stage contains 'Start Approval Process'. The workflow runs manually.
The workflow is running absolutely fine on local (on production) but it doesn't start when try through https (UAG is implemented).
It means the issue arises when workflow starts via UAG. There is no such condition/feature in UAG to enable for workflow.

Making PSE7 work with Win7 cannot get it to work.

XP loaded computer went south for good. New computer has Win7 & does not want to play nice w/ PSE7. Seems like it won't install correctly, Anybody have any ideas that have worked? I see a lot of "try this" but so far none have worked completely or the process of installation is far & beyond my scope of comprehension. Thanks

Try placing the images in the same folder as the source file (the .txt file).
Then you should just be able to use the exact name of the image (no path required).

Safari Cannot Work With Windows Live Spaces

I'm using Windows Live Spaces, and I need to change the plug-in in Safari for playing .MP3 files from QuickTime to Windows Media Player since QT plug-in cannot play the background music on my blog.
Besides that, I found that Safari seems not be able to handle some of the codes by Windows Live Spaces. So what should I do? Should I install Windows Systems on my Mac and use Internet Explorer to edit my blog?

It sounds like you're trying to use the old <bgsound> tag for the music...? Try using <object> instead for cross-browser support.

Microsoft have never been too bothered about making things work with non-Microsoft browsers. You may have more luck using [Firefox|www.mozilla.com]. If Internet Explorer is needed (I had a look at the Spaces website but couldn't find anything indicating requirements) then the only way to run that is via Windows.

Getting gpg / crypto plugin working with KDE

Can someone point me to the packages required to get gpg working with kmail. I didn't see an aegyptian package. I'm running KDE 3.2.1.

aegypten is a collection of pkgs to make kmail work with gpg - making one aegypten pkg is one way, but you can more simpler just try to rebuild pinentry and then newpg and hope it works

I have searched for distressed type, and I get both Photoshop and Illustrator tutorials. I thought it is always better to work with text in Illustrator, but Photoshop seems to be easier to create distressed text effects, by using layer masks and various brushes. If I was creating a distressed looking type I would want it to look realistic and a simiar effect to a silk screen print.
Im just trying to understand the best workflow method for working with both programs when doing something like texturing backgrounds and text to distress them like screen printing. Which program is best to originate files in and then bring into the other..

Is it possible to get Siri to work with 'old' Car handsfree systems?
Unless I'm missing something - Siri doesn't work well with older handsfree car systems - as typically the cars built in system handles the voice control and relays the request to the phone over bluetooth protocols. I tried initiating siri standalone while connected to the car and it failed.
I was hoping I might be able to do some sneaky like 'Call Siri' to enter Siri mode but it doesn't seem to work.
I'm guessing future Car handsfree systems will be Siri aware - but making Siri work with older systems (and my car isn't old - it's a 2011 model) would be very useful.
Has anyone come up with a workaround? I really don't want to have to buy or use a bluetooth ear piece

The printer do support AirPrint (the HP Deskjet 3525 is part of the 3520 Series).
Make sure your printer connected to the same router as your iPad and it shold be listed..
Be aware that you need iOS 4.2 or higher and your router should support Multicasting for AirPrint to work..
If the printer isn't listed please clarify your router brand and model, some routers don't offer Multicasting or have the protocol disabled by default.
