LRT214 - Bandwidth Management Rate Control Rule

I have an LRT214 that is configured with 3 VLANs. VLAN 1 just for management, VLAN 10 for internal devices, VLAN 20 for guest devices. Everytime i try to add Bandwidth Management Rate Control Rules for my VLAN 20 IP Range, the router stops responding within 10 seconds to 5 minutes. If I remove the rules, I am able to keep the network up for days. I have even had someone from Linksys Support remotely login to my computer then the router and remove my rules, then add them just like I had. It stayed up for about 3 minutes and then I lost network connections to all devices and couldnt even login to the router. Once I power cycle the router, i am able to get into the router long enough to remove the rules and then everything functions normally. Is anyone else having issues with Rate Control Rules or are there other steps that need to be done as well?
Just as an FYI, I do have an open case with Linksys but havent heard back from them since Wednesday the 21st. I have tried configuring another LRT214 and even a LRT224, the same issue happens when I add the rules on both of those as well.

QOS does a calculation based on the up\down Maximum bandwidths. Then applies that against the rules you set. It's critical that the values be accurate.
Rate control is like pie slices. Leave enough for the rest of the network.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

  • Bandwidth Management(Rate Limit) Using QoS Policies

    Hello,
I need some advice. We have an ASA 5525 running version 8.6(1)2 and a 10 MG pipe. I have execs that want to limit bandwidth on users for stuff like youtube, stream media, and downloads. I found the article on ‘Bandwidth Management(Rate Limit) Using QoS Policies’ so it appears our firewall can do what we want. I’m not a cisco person. My knowledge is limited when it comes to configuration – that’s why we have SmartNet :). The advice I need is what to ask for, so to speak, when I put a case in. Can bandwidth be limited on end users and/or can they limit the ‘bandwidth rate limit’ to just youtube, steaming media, and downloads? If so, what should the limit be? and I’m assume this would be for ‘incoming’ traffic only? we’re running into some bandwidth hogs – usually youtube and/or streaming media. We have a Barracuda web filter which we’ve used to block and monitor activity but I simply do not have time to babysit this all day. I should also mention we do have critical data running up and down the pipe; such as credit card processing, DB replication between in house DB and hosted website, TPCx and EDI, FTP, and such that we don’t want restricted.
    Need input please,
    Thanks,
    D

    Hello,
That's a question that you as the network admin of that organization could answer.
How much traffic for business purposes must travel via HTTP/HTTPS?
How much bandwith are you willing to provide to this 2 protocols?
Those are the kind of answers you need to answer before setting the number

  • WRVS4400N Bandwidth Rate Control Issue

    Dear All,
I just purchased a WRVS4400N VPN Security Router V2 and the main reason was for me to be able to segregate between VLANs and to be able to control bandwidth. Now I have tried everything possible to control Bandwidth using Rate Control. I have a 40Mbps downstream connection with a 16Mbps Upstream. I Have my servers connected to a VLAN 1 and my users Connected to VLAN 2. I tried limiting all the IP addresses from 192.168.2.50~200 to a max of 1000Kbps (1Mbps) Upstream on all Applications in order to leave the rest of the bandwidth for my servers...
I tried every thing but it wouldn't work..
I thought the problem was that the users are connected wirelessly, but even being connected directly to the ports doesn't work.
I tried with IPS on and off..
I disabled DHCP and gave the users static IPs..
A lot of other configurations also didn't work...
If there is something I need to know or if there is a special combination that needs to be set I would be really glad to hear anyone's opinion on this..
    Thanks a lot in advance..

Can you post the log for the root bridge both with direct pc's attached and then showing when you connect them back to the switches?

  • How to configure Enterprise Manager Database Control (EMDC) to make it work on 2 servers working (primary and standby) under DG rules

Hello everybody i use Oracle Database EE 11.2.0.4 with DG.
In those cases i need to get Enterprise Manager Database Control running against DB with no RAC and no DG i perform the following steps:
I Logon SQLPLUS as user SYS or SYSTEM, and drop the sysman account and management objects:
    DECLARE
    CURSOR c1 IS
    SELECT owner, synonym_name name
    FROM dba_synonyms
    WHERE table_owner = 'SYSMAN';
    BEGIN
    FOR r1 IN c1 LOOP
    IF r1.owner = 'PUBLIC' THEN
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'DROP PUBLIC SYNONYM '||r1.name;
    ELSE
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'DROP SYNONYM '||r1.owner||'.'||r1.name;
    END IF;
    END LOOP;
    END;
    DROP USER mgmt_view CASCADE;
    DROP ROLE mgmt_user;
    DROP USER sysman CASCADE;
    After that i run
emca -config dbcontrol db -repos recreate
But what should i do in cases i have 2 servers working (primary and standby) under DG rules?

    Hi ,
It is not possible to monitor/administer a Logical or Physical Standby database, i.e Data Guard, using Enterprise Manager Database Control.  This is primarily due to the fact that Database Control is designed to monitor 1 database and a Data Guard environment, by definition, includes more than 1 database.
If you attempt to run emca against a standby Database, you will get an error like (i.e. ORA-01219: database not open).
Database Control, can, of course, be used to monitor the current Primary database (with no ability to administer or monitor Data Guard related functionality).  In such a case, when failover occurs Database Control must be reconfigured to run on the new Primary database using the commands detailed in Note 278100.1 How To Drop, Create And Recreate DB Control In A 10g Database, section C. Recreate/ReConfig DB Control, Option 2. Recreate the DB Control Configuration Files and Repository.
Enterprise Manager Grid Control or Cloud Control provides the functionality for viewing, monitoring, and administering primary and standby databases in a Data Guard configuration.
Reference: Is it Possible to Configure Database Control for a Logical or Physical Standby Database? (Doc ID 315116.1)
You can use EM 12c cloud control to monitor and manager Standby DB effectively
Ref to below link for details

  • Query: Best practice SAN switch (network) access control rules?

    Dear SAN experts,
Are there generic SAN (MDS) switch access control rules that should always be applied within the SAN environment?
I have a specific interest in network-based access control rules/CLI-commands with respect to traffic flowing through the switch rather than switch management traffic (controls for traffic flowing to the switch).
Presumably one would want to provide SAN switch demarcation between initiators and targets using VSAN, Zoning (and LUN Zoning for fine grained access control and defense in depth with storage device LUN masking), IP ACL, Read-Only Zone (or LUN).
In a LAN environment controlled by a (gateway) firewall, there are (best practice) generic firewall access control rules that should be instantiated regardless of enterprise network IP range, TCP services, topology etc.
For example, the blocking of malformed TCP flags or the blocking of inbound and outbound IP ranges outlined in RFC 3330 (and RFC 1918).
These firewall access control rules can be deployed regardless of the IP range or TCP service traffic used within the enterprise. Of course there are firewall access control rules that should also be implemented as best practice that require specific IP addresses and ports that suit the network in which they are deployed. For example, rate limiting as a DoS preventative, may require knowledge of server IP and port number of the hosted service that is being DoS protected.
So my question is, are there generic best practice SAN switch (network) access control rules that should also be instantiated?
    regards,
    Will.

    Hi William,
That's a pretty wide net you're casting there, but i'll do my best to give you some insight in the matter.
Speaking pure fibre channel, your only real way of controlling which nodes can access which other nodes is Zones.
for zones there are a few best practices:
    * Default Zone: Don't use it. unless you're running Ficon.
    * Single Initiator zones: One host, many storage targets. Don't put 2 initiators in one zone or they'll try logging into each other which at best will give you a performance hit, at worst will bring down your systems.
    * Don't mix zoning types:  You can zone on wwn, on port, and Cisco NX-OS will give you a plethora of other options, like on device alias or LUN Zoning. Don't use different types of these in one zone.
    * Device alias zoning is definately recommended with Enhanced Zoning and Enhanced DA enabled, since it will make replacing hba's a heck of a lot less painful in your fabric.
    * LUN zoning is being deprecated, so avoid. You can achieve the same effect on any modern array by doing lun masking.
    * Read-Only exists, but again any modern array should be able to make a lun read-only.
    * QoS on Zoning: Isn't really an ACL method, more of a congestion control.
VSANs are a way to separate your physical fabric into several logical fabrics.  There's one huge distinction here with VLANs, that is that as a rule of thumb, you should put things that you want to talk to each other in the same VSANs. There's no such concept as a broadcast domain the way it exists in Ethernet in FC, so VSANs don't serve as isolation for that. Routing on Fibre Channel (IVR or Inter-VSAN Routing) is possible, but quickly becomes a pain if you use it a lot/structurally. Keep IVR for exceptions, use VSANs for logical units of hosts and storage that belong to each other.  A good example would be to put each of 2 remote datacenters in their own VSAN, create a third VSAN for the ports on the array that provide replication between DC and use IVR to make management hosts have inband access to all arrays.
When using IVR, maintain a manual and minimal topology. IVR tends to become very complex very fast and auto topology isn't helping this.
Traditional IP acls (permit this proto to that dest on such a port and deny other combinations) are very rare on management interfaces, since they're usually connected to already separated segments. Same goes for Fibre Channel over IP links (that connect to ethernet interfaces in your storage switch).
They are quite logical to use  and work just the same on an MDS as on a traditional Ethernetswitch when you want to use IP over FC (not to be confused with FC over IP). But then you'll logically use your switch as an L2/L3 device.
I'm personally not an IP guy, but here's a quite good guide to setting up IP services in a FC fabric:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/switches/datacenter/mds9000/sw/4_1/configuration/guides/cli_4_1/ipsvc.html
To protect your san from devices that are 'slow-draining' and can cause congestion, I highly recommend enabling slow-drain policy monitors, as described in this document:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/switches/datacenter/mds9000/sw/5_0/configuration/guides/int/nxos/intf.html#wp1743661
That's a very brief summary of the most important access-control-related Best Practices that come to mind.  If any of this isn't clear to you or you require more detail, let me know. HTH!

  • Bandwidth Management (Dedicated)

I currently work in hospitality and I am always getting request for dedicated bandwidth. I know there is a product on the market called Cymphonix that says it does bandwidth manangement but I have heard not very successful.
I know I can do this with QoS but often time that's too diffucult to troubleshoot and manage for front line support. Does Ciso have a appliance that does this.
    Scenario:
Customer calls in and to an hotel wanting to rent out an meeting room for a video production. The customer need 5 Mbps guaranteed. The hotel has a 75 Mbps metrope circuit and has no problem with that customer requesting the dedicated 5 Mbps.
How/What tools or appliances does Cisco have that would loow mw to slice up that 75Mbps circuit on the fly and allocate the 5 Mbps. I know that QoS can give me the ability to slice it up but once again that solution is a bot mor ecompicated.
    Thanks,
    Gregory Jackson

We had the same problem. Rate Control didn't seem to work.
I discovered that after changing the rate control settings and saving these settings the router needs a reboot.
Otherwise the rate control does not work anymore and the bandwidth is not managed.
Whenever something is modified in the rate control settings you have to reboot the router.

  • ME3400E egress bandwidth management

With help from this site, I was able to figure out ingress bandwidth management on a per port basis, but now I need to be able to configure egress bandwidth management.  I think I need to do traffic shaping but am not sure.  I was told that if you configure the bandwidth management using a percentage, that it doesnt' use the actual negotiated (or configured) port speed, but looks at the bandwidth interface command - is this true?  If a port is set to autonegotiate, and comes up as a GigE port, but the bandwidth command is set to 100Mbps, if you configured the egress shaping to 10% would that set it to 100Mbps or 10Mbps?  We are using the ME3400E to provide internet access to our customers - egress bandwidth management is very important !

  • Period control Rule 03- Mid period Depreciation

    Hi All,
I am trying to create two different depreciation keys.
One is with Period rule 01 i.e Pro rata at period start date. Example. If I create an asset any time during the month, the ordinary start depreciation should start at the beginning of the month.
Secondly another deprecation key with period rule 03 i.e. prorata at mid period. Meaning that the ordinary start deprecation date should be from 15 of the month.
I activate the " Use of Half Months in the Company Code" then the deprecation key with prorata at period start date is behaving like pro rata at mid period.
And the other key i.e. with mid period rule 03 is giving error
"E003 SYST: Period 000 is not valid in financial year variant".
I maintained in T.Code OAVH the entries for my fiscal year for the period control rule 03 for all the period, i.e. I tried for both 24 periods and also 12 periods, with Indicator: Depreciation calculated from mid-month selected.
My FI fiscal year starts from July to June.
Please advice me if I need to do any other configuration. Issue is to resolved urgently.

    Hi Dominic,
I did not made any entries for rule 01.  there is only one entry for 01 i.e. standard. and for rule 03 I made like this:
My fiscal year is July to June. (i.e. Non-Calender fiscal year) But periods are claender periods. so I gave the periods 1 for the  entry July i.e 7th month. entries are like this:
    1 - 31- 7,
    2 - 29 -8,
    3 - 31- 9,
    4 - 30 -10,
    5 - 31 - 11,
    6 - 30 - 12,
    7 - 31 - 1,
    8 - 31 - 2,
    9 - 30 - 3,
    10 - 31 - 4,
    11 - 30 - 5,
    12 - 31 - 6
and selected the mid period for all entries.
I tried for 24 periods also. for ex.
    1 - 15 - blank
1- 31- 1 and mid period selected  and so on.
But in both the ways even if maintain for 12 periods in OAVH or 24 periods in OAVH it is not working.
I activated the mid month at company code level, giving 15th as the fixed date.
When we activate the mid month, do we need to maintain assignemnt rules in OAVH or will the system generates on its own. For me system did not generate anything on its own. I am trying in different ways in OAVH.
Please do reply. Can you please give me the exact matrix what I need to maintain in OAVH.
Do I need to change the rule for rule 01 also.
I will wait for your reply. Thanks so much for the reply.

  • Bandwidth Management for Software

Is there a utility out there that would allow you to allocate specific amounts of bandwidth any software could use? In many download managers (such as Speed Download, Limewire, Azul, etc.) you can easily set the total amount of bandwidth and even per file download parameters. I have always been surprised that browsers such as Safari and even iTunes does not allow you to control the amount of bandwidth it is to use when downloading.
I often find myself in situations where I need to download a large file, and yet be able to continue to surf for example, or else I would like to keep the setting in my iTunes to download podcasts automatically when I launch it. Both Safari and iTunes, will take as much bandwidth as you can throw at them which means that it can grind every other on line activity to a halt (specially when you do not have a blazing fat connection).
Anyone know of any such software?
    Thanks.

    Shahin wrote:
Thanks, but I don't understand what this has to do with bandwidth management? Perhaps I do not understand the capabilities of nice, but isn't nice just a way to prioritize applications and services? How would you use it to allocate bandwidth?
By giving various jobs different priorities, the effective bandwidth is limited. If you use 100% of the bandwidth for 1% of the time and 0% of the bandwidth for 99% of the time, you are effectively giving the "niced" app only 1% of your bandwidth. And since a computer is digital, there is really no such thing as "instantaneous" bandwidth, as there is in other areas of communication.
If you have 10 processes running and each consumes 10% of your total bandwidth, it does not matter whether the processes are time-shared or bandwidth-limited, when considered over any reasonable period of time.

  • Process Control 2.5 - Cannot find controls and control rule assignments

    Dear expert,
I am trying to set up  Process Control 2.5 and am currently trying to set up controls as well as schedules for control monitoring.  I am, however, having the following basic problems:
-I cannot find most of the controls which I have created when I search for them in Evaluation Setup u2013> Automated Test rules u2013> Control Rule Assignment.  Therefore, I cannot assign a rule to those controls.
-For those controls that I did manage to find and assign to rules, I was in turn not able to find these in Evaluation Setup u2013> Scheduling u2013> Monitoring Scheduler when trying to create a schedule.  I get the error message u201CControl Rule Assignment not foundu201D, even though I do not delimit my search options.
-I cannot see the processes which I have assigned to my user under My Home u2013> My Process.
    Thanks for any hints!
    Regards,
    Felix

    Hi Felix,
Is your user the owner of objects you wish to see in the My Process. Your user should either be Organization Owner or Process Owner. If you are an organization owner but not an owner of lower-level objects within your organization (such as controls or subprocesses), you will still see those objects listed within My Processes because you are responsible for them, although not the direct owner.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Venky.

The following document describes about how datasync data is deployed in various scenarios.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13218_01/wlp/docs100/prodOps/preparing.html#wp1029497
Assuming you are making use of workshop for creating the user segment and deploying to a single server which is in development mode, I would recommend you check if you have hit any OOM issues on the server or not, and try restarting the server, and redeploying your app. Generally this should resolve the issue.
If the server to which you are deploying is running in production mode / deploying as an EAR then the above referred doc will guide you on the next steps.

  • RV320 Bandwidth Management issue

    Hello,
we use RV320 (firmware v1.1.0.09) since 2 months as Dual-WAN-Gateway in Load Balance Mode :
    WAN-1 – TV-cable with 6 Mbit/ 100 Mbit (up/down);
    WAN-2 – ADSL 600 Kbit/ 6 Mbit (up/down).
We need ADSL for some VPNs because the TV-cable provider can't supply us with a static IP.
The QOS settings are simple : rate control - min / max rates for up / downstream.
We have following bandwidth settings  :
WAN1 Upstream min 500 Kbs max 5000 Kbs
WAN1 Downstream min 5000 Kbs max 50000 Kbs
WAN2 Upstream min 80 Kbs max 500 Kbs
WAN2 Downstream min 500 Kbs max 5000 Kbs
The problem is – the rv320 uses WAN2-bandwidth limitations  for WAN1 too !
Is this a bug or feature ?
    Best regards.

I have the problem too, but discovered it happens with Safari on Mac. Using FireFox on Mac (OS X 10.10) the necessary UI elements do appear.

  • Qos/bandwidth management possible from 2950?

    Hello,
I was curious as to how granular I can be with bandwidth management on a C2950 switch. What I would like is to be able to restrict any SESSION to 300 kilobits or less depending on the IP Traffic type. Basically what I have is MS Terminal Servers connected to a C2950 switch in turn connected to a c2621 router which in turn sends RDP,Printing and Web Traffic back to clients, who are connected using PPPoe w/ C837's. Is it even possible to be able to restrict bandwidth by session, anywhere in this setup?
Thanks for any help. I just started researching QOS, Bandwidth Management and am lost as to where I should be looking for help. Due to the fact that I want to restrict by single sessions not by total amount of traffic, its confusing trying to get help.

You can do this with a 2950, as long as you run the EI image (enhanced). Check the QOS section where it says Policing in this document. Its in pdf format.

  • LRT224 - Bandwidth Management

    Hello,
I have been reading the documentation on the LRT224 more in depth (primarily for improving QoS for our VoIP Phones) and I came across the Maximum Badwidth Provided by ISP Setting. It defaults to 512 both up and down. With our ISP, we have dedicated internet with a 10Mbit symmetricla line. Should I chang the default value from 512 to 10000 Kbit/sec? Would this improve anything?
    Thanks

    I recommend:
Set WAN Upsteam and Downstream to the maximum your ISP will provide
Enable Rate Control on the WAN's
    Add Services for your VOIP
Set the minimum rate required for best VOIP Services Quality
This should reserve a minimum amount of bandwidth for your VOIP services.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

  • Bandwidth management on 3650 configuration example

in the 3650 datasheet, he says
The 3650 switch has advanced wired plus wireless QoS capabilities. It uses the Cisco modular QoS command line interface (MQC). Theswitch manages wireless bandwidth using unprecedented hierarchical bandwidth management starting at the per-access-point level and drilling further down to per-radio, per-service set identification (SSID), and per-user levels. This helps manage and prioritize available bandwidth between various radios and various SSIDs (enterprise, guest, and so on) within each radio on a percentage basis. The switch is also capable of automatically allocating equal bandwidth among the connected users within a given SSID. This makes sure that all users within a given SSID get a fair share of the available bandwidth while being connected to the network. The UADP ASIC enables the hierarchical bandwidth management and fair sharing of bandwidth, thereby providing hardware-based QoS for optimized performance at line-rate traffic.
In addition to these capabilities, the switch is able to do class of service (CoS) or differentiated services code point (DSCP) based queuing, policing, shaping, and marking of wired plus wireless traffic. This enables users to create common policies that can be used across wired plus wireless traffic. The 3650 also supports downloadable policy names from the Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) when a user successfully authenticates to the network using the ISE.
We are having repeated issue of a single user taking up all the WAN bandwidth.  We are trying to figure out a way to limit the user from taking up all the bandwidth    My leadership see the datasheet and attended the webinar and they mention bandwidth management and think that the 3650 is the solution.   From wireless, maybe, but from wired, ???
How could accomplish this goal from a wired side?     or should I take a different approach?
I can discuss further if needed.

    Hello,
That's a question that you as the network admin of that organization could answer.
How much traffic for business purposes must travel via HTTP/HTTPS?
How much bandwith are you willing to provide to this 2 protocols?
Those are the kind of answers you need to answer before setting the number
