LRT224 hickups: dropping WAN connection??

Hi,
my new LRT224 shows hickups in my connection.
It is hooked up to a 100Mbit fiber connection from my isp.
If I try to stream video, it creates every minute or so a second or two pause in the transmission.
Clearly, this breaks my continuous video stream.
The device log (shown below) does report 'WAN connection is down', which seems rather strange and unexpected to me.
If I don't stream video, and the data link is nearly idle, these intermittent 'WAN is down' messages do continue.
If I take the LRT out, and connect my PC directly to the isp line (yes, bad practice) I don't have such hickups, and the video streams fine (at a few mbit/sec).
I updated the firmware to v1.0.1.01 but that didn't make a difference.
I actually disabled the 2nd WAN port.
In the 'dual WAN' config, the 'Enable network Service Detection' is not marked. Selecting 'Link failover' or 'Load balance' does not show any difference (no improvement).
Any clue why the LRT would report 'WAN connection is down'???
I urgently need some solution, but the issue seems beyond my skills...
(In the log I also see 'policy violation's. I have no idea why these occur: I have no firewall rules on those LAN or WAN IP addresses...)
Thanks for any insight!
Jos

  • SA 540 drops wan connectivity after some time interval

    hello guys,
I have problem.  after a certain period of time (ranging from 2 minutes to several hours) the unit keeps dropping the WAN connection, making the unit unaccessible from the WAN side. The strange thing is, that when the connection is dropped, the unit is perfectly accessible from the LAN side, the WAN LED is still on, status info shows the WAN link up, and packet trace shows broadcasted traffic on the WAN interface, so only the directed communication to and from the ISPs gateway (configured to fix IP) seems to be blocked for some reason. When this happens, then plugging the WAN cable to the Optional WAN port enables traffic again, but it is also dropped after some time, and then only power cycling the unit restores WAN connectivity.
please suggest me as soon as possiblethat how to fix this problem?
    Awaiting for valuable reply.....

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • WRT54GL frequently drops WAN connection

    Hi,
I'm having a problem with my WRT54GL 1.1 router, namely it has a nasty habit of dropping WAN DSL connection. Firstly I attributed this to modem, but my ISP's tech support sent me a list of connection resets that are caused by the router not the modem. This happens about 20x a day, lasts for about 20 sec, then reconnect, works fine for a while and the whole cycle is repeated again. As you can imagine it is very frustrating.
I have the router upgraded to firmware rev. 4.30.11 and am using router's DHCP server.
Also: before you suggest it - I have connected my IskraTel Ganymede 822+ DSL modem directly to my PC and the connection is completely stable.
    Any suggestion would be appreciated.
    With kind regards,
    Bostjan Ursic

It is difficult to be sure from the documentation, but it appears that your "DSL modem"  is actually a "DSL modem router", and it uses the same 192.168.1.x  subnet as the WRT54GL.
To fix your problem, you will need to make one or more changes.  First, power down your entire network, then disconnect the WRT54GL from your modem.  Then wire one computer to a LAN port on the WRT54GL, and login to the WRT54GL.  Change the "Local IP address" to 192.168.2.1   Then click the "Save Settings" button and wait (3 to 60 seconds) for the screen to refresh.  You will likely be disconnected from the WRT54GL.  This is normal, so do not worry about that.  Power down your entire network.
Next, using an ethernet cable, connect one of the LAN ports on the "modem"  to the Internet port of the WRT54GL.   Boot up your system.  Did this correct the problem?
If you still have problems, please post the following info:
    1)  What "Internet Connection Type" is the WRT54GL set to?
    2)  Is the DHCP server turned on in the 822+ modem?   (Note:  I assume that the DHCP server is turned on in the WRT54GL.)

  • SA540 - Continuously drops wan connection

It's been nothing but a nightmare since i've gotten the 540.  My firmware is 1.1.42 and I have a very basic setup with only a couple of standard firewall rules.  The 540 keeps dropping the wan connection.  Everything is static on the LAN side and DHCP is turned off on the 540 with Static IP for the WAN.  I've factory reset twice and reconfiged everything exactly the same with of course the same results...help!!!
    Thanks
    James

This is probably worthy of a case with high priority at the SBSC (small business support center - aka TAC).
That is the new FW and you have factory reset so sounds like you have dont everything they way you should have.
There are a few things to try...

Under ICSA settings, uncheck the box for block fragmented packets.
Also, lower the MTU size and see if that helps (usually do this for DSL).
Also, see if you can collect a WAN trace (easy on this appliance) using Administration: Diagnostics: Packet Trace (turn it on, catch the anomaly, then turn it off).  This will open into Wireshark (formerly Ethereal) right on your PC.

  • Rv042 v4.1.1.01-sp drops wan connection

I recently implemented the rv042 as a replacement for a wrt54gs running DD-WRT. I upgraded to the latest release (v4.1.1.01sp) to solve 6to4 and SIP problems. These problems were indeed solved. However after some minutes the WAN1 connection gets somehow disconnected from the ADSL modem.
It does show the public ip address, but I cannot ping the ptp router anymore. I also cannot renew the lease. Rebooting the rv042 does not help. When rebooting the modem it briefly works again, but then loses the connection again and it never comes back.
Currently I returned to the old wrt54gs as a workaround. Because I am planning on an extra WAN connection (via cable), which is the main reason why I bought the rv042, I am eager to get this problem solved quickly. Since the ADSL modem is pretty old, I ordered a more current one that also supports IPv6, so I do not have to use a 6to4 tunnel. I will test again with this new modem, but I doubt that it will solve my problem since I do not have any problems with the old router.
Has anyone seen this type of problem, and can I do something in the configuration to solve this? Or is it just a bug?
    Thx,
    Hans Feringa
I replaced the ADSL modem. That fixed the problem.

  • RV082 drops WAN connection immediately after establishing it

I have my 2nd WAN connection on the RV082 setup to connect via static IP to a T1 connection. When I connect the cable, the log reports...
"WAN connection is up : 216.130.xxx.xxx..." and 3 sec's later reports "WAN connection is down".
I can connect a computer directly to that T1 with the same static IP settings and it connects without a problem.
I'm on the firmware version v4.0.2.08-tm.
    Any thoughts?

I was using Smart Link Backup. Changing to Load Balanced brings the other WAN up. Is that normal behaviour? That if you're using the Smart Link Backup it shows the backup WAN interface as being down (in the logs) and no IP info (all 0.0.0.0) in the WAN status.
If the primary WAN goes down, will it then auto bring up the back WAN interface?
I'm on v4.0.2.08-tm firmware and i also changed the MTU to 1492.

  • Dropping WAN connection

We have installed a new Time Capsule running Version 7.5.1... Running both Ethernet and Wireless connections from a DSL modem for WAN connectivity... We are getting continuous (2 to 3 times per day) WAN disconnects... the router works fine just that we all lose our internet access...
We have several ports open for external access to various accounting package and operational databases...
Thinking it was the phone company we had them replace the DSL modem with their most current version and still have problems....

I had a replacement TC sent - it was worse - returned it.
I placed it behind my LinkSys router - still dying.
I spoke to support again - that had one "expert" calling me - what an arrogant SOAG, at some point he said - "end of conversation" and slammed the phone.
He had never heard of the problem - "most be the ISP's equipment or my LinkSys".
Tried to explain him that i'm not the only one - just check apple forums - that the TC has problems with my Siemens fiber modem (LinkSys doesn't), and even placing my Linksys router between doesn't help.
For me this all indicates that the firmware on the TC is not stable - he argued that this is not the case, this is a compatibility issue. I agree that it might be a compatibility issue - but the root cause is still the firmware of the TC.
He wanted to have me to try the TC at a different location with different ISP - but for me that would just show that the TC works in some setups - but for him that would 100% clear the TC of any blame - that makes no sense.
Am I wrong - or is the "expert" wrong - give me your opinion, thanks.

  • Kludgy fix for T520 frequently dropping WAN connection

There's no obvious way to lodge a bug with Lenovo. Hopefully someone from the tech dept looks in here from time to time.
    The problem:
T520 (4242CTO) running Win7x64. Accessing WAN (Telstra NextG 850Mhz HSPA) via F5521gw. Connects initially without issue. Then drops connection after random time interval. Doesn't matter whether connection active or idle. Persistently fails on any/all reconnection attempts.
    The fix:
In Control Panel/Device Manager, disable "Network adaptors/F5521gw Mobile Broadband Driver" and "Ports (COM & LPT)/F5521gw .... (COM4)". Then reenable same. Reconnects on next attempt every time.
Presumably there's some issue with releasing/renewing authentication/IP etc. Perhaps something to the effect of resetting the adaptor could be trialled for inclusion in future releases of Access Connections?

  • Airport Extreme(SW) keeps dropping the WAN connection under "heavy" load

    Hey,
Have had this problem ever since I got the Airport Extreme when it first came out and I got it.
The problem is this : The connection will work just fine for ages, but if I end up downloading something using (primarily this is the problem) torrents and I end up getting a rather good speed on it the airport will all of the sudden stop getting data from the WAN(ADSL modem connected to it through the WAN connection) and the Airport will have to be restarted. Some days it will have to be restarted up towards 15 times a day.
The Airport remains accessible through the LAN connection, as well as through the WiFi when it has failed like this so I can go in through the Airport Admin Utility and restart the unit without any problems whatsoever. The modem does not need restart or reiniting either.
The problem occurs no matter of if I am on the hard wired (LAN) connection or the WiFi connection. If I download something using a torrent that is high speed, especially if its more then one torrent at the same time (say 4 torrents each running at 200-300kbps therefor peaking at the roof of what my DSL connection can handle) then it will absolutely lock up after a minute or so. If I only do surfing or 'ordinary' work then there is no problem.
    The problem is easily repeated.
    * If I connect my laptop by wire to the modem directly without the airport in between there will be no problem.
    * I have software reseted the Airport many times to attempt to fix the problem when it has gotten on my nerves with no positive or changing result.
    * I have the latest available from Apple firmware(5.6) installed on the Airport.
    * I have no 'weird' or abnormal settings set on the Airport, and no neighbors playing tricks on me - This problem was with me when I used the airport fully locked down in a office environment and then went with it when I moved my airport unit out of my office in to my home.
    * I have no other wifi units in the house that may cause problems, no bluetooth phones running amok.
    Airport details:

    Hi guys,
Recently I bought AirPort Extreme 802.11n Base Station (Gigabit, MB053LL/A), and
seems, I have very similar problem with yours. Internet connection from my ISP over WAN is dropped after few hours of being idle. The router successfully receives its IP settings from provider's DHCP, eveyithing is working fine at first and as long as I have some inet activity. Then I disconnect, or sleep my laptops, and when I'm back - WAN provides no Internet traffic at all It looks like WAN is not functioning or blocked in someway. AirPort Utility and logs show no problems, all statuses are good, correct WAN IP settings are shown in the utility.
Sometimes it helps to plug-out/in Ethernet cable to WAN port, but more often only full router restart helps (with around 10-20 secs of outage). BTW, WiFi connection between the router and laptops is pretty stable and causes absolutely no probs. HDD connected to the router works good also.
My firmware is 7.2.1 (gigabit), and reading above posts I tried to downgrade to 7.2. It didn't fix the problem So well there are no earlier firmware versions for this AEBS model to try.
Does anybody have ideas about it?
(I understand you guys mostly wrote about 100Mbit version of AEBS)
    Thanks you,
    Strim

  • E3000RM - WAN connection dropped

Pros: Good Price. Worked very well when it did operate.
Cons: I purchased this approximately 5 weeks before I got around to using it. After installation, it worked for two days and failed. The WAN connection dropped, and numerous attemps to reconnect failed. Since I was approximately one week past the expiry date of the warrenty I guess I am out of luck and learned a lesson to test upon receipt.

In this case you can reset the router and try to run the cisco connect software that came along with the router to reconfigure it (Note: If you already have cisco connect on your computer then uninstall it first before reinstalling it.). After that you can get into the advance settings of the router through cisco connect and try to reduce the MTU size to 1400.
Click on the following link that shows how to reduce the MTU size http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=66270e5d0d4347d087102f2bfef7116d_3742.xml&pid=80&r...

  • Extreme Base Station suddenly dropping internet connection

I have an Extreme Base Station (802.11n Fast Ethernet) which has been providing wireless internet and printing to two imacs pretty flawlessly for several years. It seems to be a fairly simple network. DSL modem (to WAN port) and USB printer cable plugged into back of Base Station.
Several days ago, the Base Station began dropping connection to the internet every few minutes. If I connect the modem directly into the computer, I have no problems with losing connection. So, I began looking for solutions online and have been trying everything I could find to do. I've scoured the forums here, and everywhere and read a bazillion posts.
I've done a hard reset of the Base Station, I've tried different channels, I've unplugged, waited ten minutes, and replugged in a myriad of sequences, including unplugging both the modem (Zhone/Paradyne 6381-A3) and Base Station overnight. The only thing I haven't done is roll back the firmware (currently 7.4.2 I believe). I'm still experiencing the same problems and am at my wits end. I've spent hours now trying to fix it and need to do other things like shop for groceries and vacuum! So, I'm posting, in hopes someone might be able to point me in a more productive direction.
Is it possible the Base Station hardware is failing? What are the signs and symptoms? I hate to spend another $179 and still have the same problems.
    Thank you.
    Most kindly,
    ---Susan

    Dear Bluenova - ( +or other interested readers+ )
I know that this reply is two months since this topic was initially posted.
This is a longstanding Airport Extreme ( AEBS ) problem that's been noted since 2006-2007.
It has been an ongoing issue for me -AND- I continue to experience it even after recently upgrading my AEBS.
I finally called AppleCare in mid-Sept. and opened a formal problem case report.
As of today (Oct 15, 2010) I still have an open & unresolved case with AppleCare.
The problem has been escalated twice -and- is now referred to Engineering Dept for research & resolution.
I was curious what steps or actions you have taken -and/or- if you still experience the problem.

I would like to be able to correspond directly with others via email to share info
(such as what modems, ISP's, time of day or conditions with which this problem has been found to occur)
I will then be glad to pass that info on to AppleCare in trying to find a cause (and solution) for this problem.
If this issue was treated collectively maybe AppleCare would address it with more resolve & urgency.
I'll check back with this thread for replies from other interested users.

    WAN Connectivity Failure
I've ran the same thing a couple times recently besides this as well and same thing is occuring.
My iMac is the only device this happens on. Sometimes it won't reconnect to the wifi automatically when i reboot my Airport Extreme (it's a 4th gen)
Any thoughts or ideas to try?

Sometimes going up to your Wireless strength icon and click it and then choose Open Network Preferences. Then select turn WiFi Off. Then wait a minute and Turn WiFi On. Make sure you are connected to your Network, Make sure that WiFi has the green dot and if it isn!t already Drag it to the top of the list. Other. Times you may need to change your router channel from the default setting from 6 to 10. This holds true if you live in an area where there is a lot of traffic, and all other routers are set to the default of 6. as you can see if everyone is on channel 6 this can cause a very high traffic issue and you need to change your channel number.
    Cheers

  • **Critical** - No WAN Connection Down Escalation

I've been doing some alert testing with integration to systems external to OnPlus and have been triggering WAN Connection Down statuses for testing.  For the first time, EVER, I had an instance where the Connection Status was down, triggered the Notice, but never escalated and sent out the emails.  I have my WAN Connection Status set to alert after 5 minutes.  It never escalated, so I never received an email when it went down, for over an hour, and I also never received an email when it came back up.

I also just noticed that I can't change the Customer field on a Delivery Rule after it's created.  Perhaps it's always been that way but I'm pretty certain I used to be able to do that.  The other item that's odd is that on the one Delivery Rule that I'm using for my testing, I have one customer selected however when I edit the Delivery Rule, it has (ALL) in the Customer Field instead of just the one Company.  There are 2 Delivery Rules tied to the customer only and both of them are showing (ALL) in the Customer field.  I tried creating another Delivery Rule for this customer and it's doing the same thing.
After further investigation, it appears that it has to do with me changing the name of the customer in the Profile.  The format of the name was changed from "Customer Site" to "CustID.Customer_Site|".  When I changed the name back, the Customer field in the Delivery Rule is now showing the right Customer.  I tried a number of combinations including changing the period (.) to an underscore (_) and dropping the pipe (|) and none of those made a difference.  I shortened the name which was originally 33 characters, included the period and the pipe, and it appears to be working.  I'm going to test the alerting again and see if it fixes that issue as well.

  • Airport Extreme drops internet connection several times a day

I have an AE that is about 3 years old and it has worked great until the last two weeks or so. Over the last few weeks it will be working fine and then drop my connection for no reason. I will get an amber light on the AE although the cable modem stays connected. It is as if the AE is rebooting itself about a dozen times a day for no reason. I was looking around a bit and I see several things in the log at the same time that say:
    Jul 10 10:09:47 Severity:5 Connection accepted from fe80::21c:b3ff:fe71:762f%bridge0:49424.
but I am not sure what (if anything) that means. I have a Mac, Win & PC, XBox, PS3, Two IPhones, and an IPad connected to it if any of that matters. I also make sure the AE is sitting out in the open with plenty of airflow to stay cool.
What do I need to do to make the connection more stable? Is there a way of reloading the firmware on the AE to see if that will help?
    Thank you for any help.

ElksSS01, I have the EXACT same problem with my Airport Extreme but, I am 100% certain it is my service provider... The problems started for me back in March of this year, I've replaced my cable modem 3 times, Bought a new Belkin Router (didn't work either), had technicians come out to my house 4 times and FINALLY they found that they are reading voltage on the COAX line into my house, they traced it all the way back to their junction box in my neighbor hood so I asked my neighbors if they were having similar issues with the same service provider, which they were... So now I am back to using my Airport Extreme again, but using the Logs to keep track of how many times the connection drops...
When your internet goes down, try observing the cable modem, there should be a CABLE LED indicator, if it is not on SOLID while your connection fails then it is more than likely your service provider... Below is exactly what happens to mine...
    1) no connectivity from any device, wired or wireless
    2) cable light on modem turns completely off
    3) cable light begins to blink
    4) cable modem reestablishes a connection to the internet
    5) AE light goes from solid green to blinking orange for 2-3 seconds
    6) AE light goes back to solid green and all is well, for about 45 minutes in my case
I would definitely do what Bob Timmons sad above as I also thought it was my router and jumped the gun to buy a new one, only to find out it wasn't my router after all... Before you replace your AE though, I would check with your service provider... In my case, whenever I called them they said that my modem and everything looked fine on their end... In the event their is voltage getting fed back into your modem via the COAX, the only way they will be able to tell is by checking the lines, and tracking it back to where ever the faulty equipment is located...
Here is what I am dealing with, this crap gets VERY annoying... (removed ISP address for obvious reasons) and this isn't my entire log, actually it isn't even a quarter of it... Every day, I drop a connection at least 20 times... The log I keep is NOTHING but what you see below...

  • My i Phone drops WiFi connection after just a few minutes and wont reconnect unless I reset the network settings and reboot the  phone?

My i Phone 4s has suddenly started to drop wifi connection after nealy months of near perfect connections?
To restore a wifi connection I have to reset the network settings and restart the phone, this only fixes the issues for around 2-3 mins?
Other quick fixes like switching wifi on and off/ switching to airoplane mode for a few secconds have no impact.
This is really annoying as I am using my data allowence very quickly, and as the phone is continually searching for a wifi connection the battery time has reduced dramatically.
I just wondered if any one else has the same issue, and any suggestions as to how I can fix this.
    Thanks in Advance

    Reboot.
    Restore (from backup)
    Restore (as new)
Test after each step. If one of them doesn't fix the problem, make an appointment at the genius bar.
