Lserjet 4L prints and then doesn't print

I posted the note below on one of the other frums but haven't been able to solve the problem yet. Can anyone here help? I sent a note to HP and they  said that they no longer support this unit with on-line help. Is there somewhere else to go?
I've had this Laserjet 4L for years and it has served flawlessly.
I tried to print a multiple page document the other day and it printed about 8 pages and then stopped. The “PAPER”; light came on so I tried to clear what I thought was a paper jam.
I could not get it to print. I even took the drive wheel off and cleaned it but it did no good.
I then went and downloaded the driver again. This made it work again for a while, but the same problem reoccurred.
So I went and re-downloaded the driver again and it worked again for a short while.
Now it has stopped again and downloading the driver does not fix it.
The paper is feeding up to the drive wheel, but that's as far as it goes. The “PAPER” light comes on and it stops without feeding the paper any further.
When I checked the que for the printer on the control panel icon it shows nothing in que.
Can you please help? I really like this printer.
Thank you.

Hello Darren,
I see what happened. When I originally came across this problem I started to make changes to some of the options for printing and left the postscript level 2 option selected. Running the vi with this option didn't pring anything. (my fault) Going back to the Options and after selecting standard printing I ran the vi and guess what? To my amazement the vi printed perfectly as it did in LV7.1. So I decided to check the options again to see of there was something else I might've changed and sure enough, the Color/Greayscale printing option was deselected, so I selected it again and ran the vi again but the printout came out the same, no gray background shown. I figured let me try a new vi from scratch and see if I can get the same results as I did originally with the grey background. Would you believe I can't even get the vi to print. Everytime I set the vi to print after execution (in the VI properties>printing options), the selection made is not recognized. When I view the VI properties, the print after execute option is not selected anymore, eventhough I had selected before and saved the vi.
Definitely there is a problem with LV8.0 printing and it is not just an issue of printing a grey background. I was looking for a patch or upgrade on LV8.0 and found there is LV8.0.1. Upon reading its readme file, I couldn't find any reference to it. Has anyone any info on this? I don't want to install an upgrade in the middle of development if it is not going to help me. That's what ended up happening to me by starting with 7.1 and converting to 8.0.
Thanks,
Wil

  • Yahoo Mail: on Mac Pro (keeps asking for my password and then doesn't work)

I have used Yahoo Mail through my Mac Pro Mail Account for years and enjoyed fine service.
For the last few months, the Mac Mail says I have the wrong password, and it won't allow me to access
    mail.
If I change the password, it will work for a while (days) and the cycle starts all over again.
Sometimes, I stop using Mac Mail and use Yahoo off the web, and then suddenly Mac Mail will start working
    on its own again.
I read a thread for earlier in the year and tried every single thing suggested - this still happens
I have used Yahoo mail for 22 years - but maybe it is time to switch?
Gmail never has this problem...but I use the Yahoo mail for my business, my friends, and groups.
    Anyone with a working solution?
PS: My Yahoo email ALWAYS 100% of the time works on my iphone, and ipad...this only happens on my Mac Pro.

You don't have a Mac Pro (*65lb tower) but a notebook.
There is a support page and setup wizard to help plus links to support articles and community.
you may have to rebuild mail index or see if you can export, (re)move the existing mail folder and setup a new one and import old mail. Mail does and can have its issues for sure.

  • Mozilla asks to reboot computer to complete update and then doesn't complete update etc

On Sept 6, I updated Mozilla Firefox on a Windows XP desktop. Since then, when I want to use Mozilla, I am asked if I want to finish installation of the update. If I say no, Mozilla disappears. If I say yes, the computer reboots and asks if I want to finish installation of the update. And so on. Mozilla Thunderbird works fine.

Run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator).<br />
If that doesn't solve the problem then remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean reinstall.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

  • G5 starts and then doesn't go further than the grey apple on the screen

    Dear all,
My G5 (2*2 GHz) starts and as soon as the apple appears on the grey screen, it doesn't go further anymore. The screen remains unchanged and nothing happens.
Is it the hard drive ? How can I check what is going wrong (connect it to a second Mac ??) ? What can I do ?
I thank you in advance for your help
    Didier

Okay so I was able to get back into my system and the computer starts up fine, although now a set of partitioned drives I had access to are locked and I can't seem to understand how to gain access.
BUT first here is what I did to get the system to start up without hanging on the Grey Apple Screen.
    1. Shut down computer...NOTE: Leopard 10.5 DVD Install disc was left in computer. Because previous re-starts my computer automatically ejects the disc I'd do a hard shutdown and restart and it would still eject the disc even though I was holding down C and trying to get system to start from disc. Difference is I had not done step 2 - 4 yet...
    2. Unplugged power directly to computer and all peripherals
    3. Changed out my keyboard to Apple Keyboard model A1048 and an optic mouse model M5769, instead of FCP keyboard and WACOM notepad/mouse
    4. waited about 10 - 15 mins (about the time I was cruising the forums for answers)
    5. Restarted computer holding down "C" this time disc did not eject! After Grey Apple Screen appeared, I waited 10secs while holding down the C key then let go.
The grey bar pinwheel showed up and the computer re-booted from DVD!!
    6. After settling with install screen I went up to top bar drop down menues and opened Disc Utilities from the Install disc screen. NOTE: My main hard drive was accessible, all the partition drives had a LOCK icon on them. I believe this is because they are from an external drive. Ignored the lock icon....
    7. Ran a "Repair Disc" on main hard drive. It spun through that request quickly stating everything was okay.
    8. Obviously with a permissions issue for my situation, I ran a Verify Permissions. It was taking a long while before differences appeared. After a slew of them rolled by and a 7 hour verification time showed up I canceled the verification and went straight to "Repair Permissions"
    9. Repair Permissions began and I let it run it's course taking about 2.5 hours.
    10. Quit Disc Utilities. Quit install disc and restarted from my startup disc.
    11. Computer restarted and opened to my desktop successfully!
    12. Shutdown from menu.
    13. Plugged in all peripheral drives and devices.
    14. Computer has restarted to my desktop!! BUT...even after plugging in all peripheral drives the partitioned drives are still locked and I can't seem to move any items on my desktop!
I'm going to try starting up with the Install Disc again with all the peripheral drives plugged in. And hopefully see if I can run Disc Utilities from install disc on those drives. Again, they were unplugged with the first attempt to re-boot from disc.
I also know I have some issues here with access and permisssions. And even though I am the Administrator of this computer and have authority to regulate permissions I do not know how it works to successfully have access to the media and content drives myself and some co-workers need access too.
thanks for your attention to this message I hope some of it was helpful to you.
    peace

  • I have tried putting in my Quicktime Pro registration number, it tells me that my registration was successful and then doesn't install!! Help!

I have tried putting in my Quicktime Pro registration number, a message came up telling me I had successfully registered and now it won't download! Help!
It doesn't say QuickTime Pro on any of my icons. They've got my money - but I don't have the product!

When I click on the 'About QuickTime ' button it still tells me that I just have the ordinary Version 7.7 (1680.25).
And as I previously stated, the application will not change whether it is running as QT Player 7 or QT 7 Pro.
When I click on the File Menu, Export and many of the other features are in grey so are not accessable by me. When I do click on them, they tell me to 'Buy it now'. I have a receipt email from Apple thanking me for my payment and giving me my registration code which I duly entered along with my name into the appropriate fields on the registration page.
The only button available for me to press was another 'Buy it now' button?
The email contains both the name (with or without salutation) under which you purchased the QT Pro Key and registration key itself. Both name and key must be enterend in the the QT 7 Player application just as received in the email to unlock the Pro features. Have you actually entered this informationg in the QT 7 Player? If not, follow the "If you need to Manually enter your QuickTime 7 Pro registration code:" instructions detailing how to register QT 7 for Pro use found HERE. The process for entering the key information in the appropriate version of QT 7 is virtually the same whether you are using Leopard, Snow Leopard, or Lion.
I did have a box appear at one point saying 'Thank you for Registering', but clearly I HAVEN'T been registered.
It's infuriating as I need this to down load before I can get any work done.
If the "QuickTime Pro Registration" window depicted in the above intructions indicates QT Pro is registered but you still cannot access the Pro features, then you should probably contact Apple and explain the problem within 90 days of purchase as you may have a more serious problem requiring technical assistance while the purchase warranty is still in effect.

  • When Firefox shows me an update and asks if I'd like to update, I click continue, but it doesn't update. It just goes to a "software update" window and says "connecting to the update server..." and then doesn't do anything else. It never updates. HELP!

When I sign on to Firefox, a "Software Update" pops up and asks if I'd like to update Firefox. I click Yes/Continue and when I do, the page says "Downloading Firefox" - connecting to the update server... - but it never finishes. It continually shows the blue/white striped line.

Start at '''http://www.mozilla.com''' and download the latest
version. At the completion of the download '''don't let the setup
start Firefox for you''', when the setup ends, start Firefox in your
normal manner this way you will be less likely to create a new profile.
The extra startup pages are temporary -- read them. The next time
Firefox comes up you should be back to starting with your normal home page.
Note: Firefox must be down once the install starts.
:Close Firefox with File>Exit. Then make sure Firefox is not running --
:On Windows: check the "Processes" tab in the Windows Task Manager.
:On Mac: Firefox > Quit then Command+option+Esc, if Firefox running use Force quit
    '''Permission errors on Mac:'''
"If you were getting permission errors on a Mac, download the latest
Firefox version, then uninstall and reinstall Firefox. '''Do not let the uninstall remove remove anything but Firefox itself'''; otherwise, you will lose your profile directories and files as they contain your settings,
bookmarks, history, extensions, passwords, and cookies.
If you can't download as mentioned above, find your system and the Firefox version you want in releases, download and start the install as seen above

  • Photoshop CS5 creates file and then doesn't allow me to open it.

I created a file on Photoshop CS5, saved it, and now when I try to open it says: "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop." How can I open the file? How come the same program cannot open its own file? Can anybody help me with this? Thanks.

That can happen in any version of Photoshop and it can be for one of at least two reasons:
1.— The file was over 2 GB in size and was saved as a PSD rather than a PSB file; or
2.— The file got corrupted.  This can happen when attempting to work across a network or with Norton Anti Virus (NAV) running on your computer.
Always work locally.  To open a file stored on a network volume, copy the CLOSED file in the Finder to your local hard drive first, then open the local file.  Once you are done working on the image, save the file on your local hard drive, close it and copy the CLOSED file back to the server.
Sometimes, Illustrator or GraphicConverter can recover the flattened composite in a corrupted file if you're lucky, but the layers will be toast.
If the file was indeed over 2 GB and saved as a PSD rather than a PSB, I know of no way to open it.
Give us some more details of the history of the file and maybe someone else will have other ideas.

  • Why does firefox freeze and then doesn't fully release from memory, but I have to End Process from Task Manager?

Frequently, Firefox for Windows (Vista) freezes up. I click on a link or try to go to another web page and nothing happens. The icon in the tab is just spinning, with Connecting. but it never connects. Then when I close it - if it lets me. I click to open it again and a window pops up saying that Firefox is already running, to please close it before launching it again. I have to go to Task Manager and End task from the Processes tab. It is also a resource hog including the Plug-In Container.

The pluging container opens up unnecessary copies as the cookies/history are cleared, this is a known issue, it might be what you are seeing, and it is hoped to be fixed in some future release of firerox.
There are some hangs affecting some users, with symptoms being high cpu usage, occurring as bookmark changes or syncing is in progress, there is a work around for that.

  • IChat AV works great... and then doesn't!

    Hi there!
I recently began iChatting with my mom in the states who just bought a brand new iMac G5 with tiger and built in iSight. I'm musing a regular iSight and we had 2-3 conversations without difficulty. On Christmas day (australia) we were not able to connect Connection Dr states that she "denied" my invitation when she was accepting. When att simple IM texting the message windows "doubled" i.e appearing twice on my monitor and all typed and recieved messages appeared twice. We played with firewall settings both "on" with iChat ports allowed and "off" completely. We both reset, computers, and modems. No joy. Also Safari now won't launch at all (bouncing icon in dock then nothing) And Mail gives me the spinning beach ball of death! Help! I feel like I'm infected with something. Netscape runs just fine, other Life programs work fine.
    Any suggestions?

  • Firefox frequently freezes after my laptop sleeps or hibernates, and then doesn't try to remember tabs when the program is shut down.

Frequently after my computer comes out of sleep mode or hibernation with Firefox still running, I will try to input text (anywhere in the window) or push the volume buttons on my keyboard and it causes the program to not respond. The only option is to close and restart it, but it doesn't remember my tabs anymore, nor does it remember closing my tabs (when I look for them in the 'recently closed tabs' menu). Often this does not solve the problem, and I end up having to restart my computer for it to work again.

  • Safari on the Mac - same animation works and then doesn't

Hi, this is weird and browser-specific, so I don't know if I'm going to get any help here.
I have an animation in the header of my site. It can be seen at http://motioncity.com/production/editorial and http://motioncity.com/video-production. On chrome and Firefox, those headers load fine for me. On Safari on the Mac, the first link consistently loads the animated header, the second one never does. Both of these files are the exact same animated file.
What might prevent an animation from working on a page under a specific browser?

    Hi,
What's difference between both websites? The second website (video-production) does not load jQuery and Edge files.
You can look at my screenshots.
    1) http://motioncity.com/video-production.
Edge 1.5.0 and jQuery 1.7.1 are missing (left panel).
    2) http://motioncity.com/production/editorial
Edge 1.5.0 and jQuery 1.7.1 are loaded (left panel). Therefore, it works fine.
So, is it a path or folder issue ("edge_includes" missing)?

  • IMac Freezes and then doesn't startup

I have a 600Mhz G3 iMac, and from some time ago, it is giving some problems.
At first, it freezes and when restarting, after the normal chime a blinking "?" folder appeared. I'm a old Mac user (15 years)...and i know that is a "No System to startup" problem...probably HD problem. But the iMac, after waiting some minutes, restarts and works fine.
Now, the problem is bigger. It freezes from time to time, and when restarting there is no normal starting sound, no Apple icon, no blinking folder...just a gray screen....and from time to time, 2 or 3 little and short beeps. It stays like that. After waiting some minutes (or even a day)..it restarts normal, as always.
Any idea what it can be? My first idea was to change the HD...but, if it is the HD, why after waiting some time (cooling??) it starts OK?
Even more, if the HD is the problem...it should sound and appear the ? folder. The starting chime should sound always, even without a HD.
So...mother board, graphic card, HD? one, 2 of 3, all of them...?

I would start the trouble-shooting by installing a new battery, unless that is, you have a fairly new (< 2 years) one.
