LSO Tech Questions

Hi guys,
I've some technical question for you regarding LSO 600..
Some questions on clients: do you know which is the minimum screen resolution (I guess 1024768 recommended, 800600 suitable?), CPU, RAM, HDD, software to be installed on client side (-other than Authoring Environment and Offline Player - Adobe Flash Player (I guess it is necessary for virtual classrooms with Adobe Connect) , Adobe Acrobat Reader, etc etc)
Are any activeX / applet downloaded on client side?
Is there any bandwidth requirement for the network in a LSO environment?
We are planning to use Adobe Connect for Virtual Learning Rooms. From an architectural point of view I've noticed it is necessary to have an Adobe Connect Server, but I haven't found any info about the techological requirements and how this server communicates with NW7.0 components (protocols, ports). Do you know where to find these info?
Thanks for your help.
Best Regards,
Alessandro

You need a SCORM package to be abel to import/convert using Authoring Environment. I think you would have to export the course as a SCORM package and then you would be able to import it to AE.

  • Tech question - 1000's of folders ???

    Just a quick tech question.
    Why does LR create 1000's of folders to hold the previews. One catalog has over 1600 folders, most of them empty. Between all my catalogs I have over 10,000 folders!
    That really screws up searches on the hard drive, the backup takes a heck of a lot longer, etc. To say nothing about consuming large amounts of disk space just due to file/sector allocation.
    There must be a reason for this... but what? After all, the previews don't even use the original file name, so it can't be for file name conflict resolution.

    >Say what they may, I'm convinced that LR in all of it's V1.0 versions is a knee-jerk rushed reaction to the utterly sudden appearance of Apple's Aperture,
    Simply untrue...Lightroom (AKA Shadowland) was started Dec 2002 (in my studio I might addthat's how I know for an absolute fact when it started) and Aperture was started in the Spring of 2003. I know that because the Apple marketing guy writing the marketing spec for what would end up being released as Aperture interviewed me (the only contact I had with Apple with regards to Aperture).
    So, you can "think" what you want as long as you want, but if you want to be correct, you really should change what you think. The full story (minus some proprietary stuff and some other stuff to keep from embarrassing certain peoplesome of who are gone from Adobe) was written in
    THE SHADOWLAND/LIGHTROOM DEVELOPMENT STORY.
    >This is why I say that LR doesn't feel like a 'professionally' designed program... the front looks great, but you look behind the makeup and it looks really amateur.
    Uh huh. . .and how many software product development project have you been on? Care to post your creds that would make your opinion relevant?
    On the Mac, the entire Lightroom Database Previews.lrdata is a "Package" which contains the subfolders and the preview.noindex files. On Windows, there isn't a similar construct as a "Package" so the previews are tucked into subfolders inside the enclosing folder named Lightroom Previews.lrdata So, what's your problem with subfolder containing the preview.noindex files? Is it because YOU think it's messy? Why?
    In my main Lightroom catalog (which has about 78,000 images in it) the Lightroom Database Previews.lrdata package is about 36 gigs...these are generated preview files that Lightroom uses to avoid having to re-render each file you look at. Where should all this data be saved? Why should you care, in the least HOW it's organized? It's organized in a manner that Lightroom needs to be able to access it.
    If you want to suggest an alternative organizational structure, go right ahead. Suggest...but, without an alternative organizational structure, what would YOU suggest the Lightroom engineers do? What would YOU do?

  • Follow up to 'really messed up' tech question

    As mentioned in my previous post below, I accidentally deleted all my iweb pages somehow after attempting to add google adsense to my site. While trying this my first attempt to add them to my site 'published to a folder' was a success, while trying to add them to my site 'published to the web' did not work.
    I tried replacing my published website with the site that was published to the folder (and had the ads showing), but I still see the code and not the ads on the web. Question: Can the ads look correct in the published folder and yet still not show correctly on the web? I do see that the code is partially hidden, is that why when trying to publish it to the web it doesn't turn into ads? But it doesn't interfere with it being published to a folder?
    Also when copied code is pasted into a 'shape' and you can see that the code is partially hidden, does it make a difference? Can or should the code be manipulated to fit inside the shape?
    Thanks for any insight.

    Karen ~ Are you aware that iWeb '08 makes it easy to add +Google AdSense+ ads to your site? ...see this video tutorial:

  • VGA/XVGA/DVI - tech questions

    This is not a question about displays as such, but their interconnection. I hope this is a suitable forum.
    I want some technical info on the VGA, XVGA, DVI, RGB and the twenty or so other connectors available for displays (including TVs)
    Particularly I want to know details about the VGA connector on my iBook. Is VGA a digital output? What is it's resolution? If it's not a digital interface and is simply an RGB signal, why so many (15) pins?
    A friend wants me to hook my G4 to his LCD TV and compare the DVD playback from the iBook and his DVD player. His TV manual talks about using an RGB/DVI conversion cable when driving the TV from a Mac. It shows a 15 pin RGB cable (like the connector that comes with the G4), yet the DVI end of the conversion cable has 24 pins.
    All very complicated. Can anyone direct me to a site that would have technical specs for VGA & DVI plugs: ie what pin is what.

    "what pin is what."
    I just Googled for these two links of the pinouts. I'm sure there is a lot more if you want to search.

  • Tech question re: stealth mirroring MacBook to HDTV?

    Greetings Apple family,
        I understand how to mirror using the HDMI very well, that is mirroring exactly what is on my MacBook screen to the HDTV. My question therefore is, would it be possible to mirror for example only a Safari screen shot to the TV, while I'd be working on a Word file on the MacBook?
    Thanks for the anticipated co-op everyone!
    God bless,
    Chris
    Gr. 7 Teacher

    I think you can do it.
    While you're plugging the HDMI wire, go to Apple - System Preferences- then select Disply.
    Next go under Arrangement and adjest your displays secreen. Choose one to display Safary and the other to work on whatever you want.
    I hope this is work!

  • Hi Everyone I have a tech question

    I got my iphone on thursday and it breezed thru activation with no problems. I've made and received several calls with no problems on both ends. My question is this we have roadrunner wifi and i was wondering during activation my brother got a message from roadrunner saying there was an intrusion from our end since this happened during the iphone activation. but now everything is fine .Can I use the wifi connection from our roadrunner network ? My iphone finds the connection and asks for the wep password every so often and wants to use it . All the other times it uses edge just fine when i went to the Apple store they told me roadrunner is'nt compatible so is that true ? I would think any wifi would work? All replies welcome Overall i like the iphone and my family likes it too.

    Hi,
    I have an iPhone at home syncing on a 24" iMac with a wireless connection to an 'N' airport extreme. Hooked to 'N' is an old 'G' airport extreme that creates a separate network the iPhone can use. All of this is on a single roadrunner cable modem. The phone activated fine on the 'N' network and works just fine on the 'G" network. Once i gave the iPhone the WPA password for the 'G' network it connects as soon as i walk in the door. If everything works for you, i would ignore the roadrunner message.

  • Just some tech questions about my iMac (OS 9 & Classic)

    Hi everyone, thought this is the fastest way to get an answers pertaining to my iMac G5 (Ambient Light Sensor/Pre-iSight):
    - Does it support Classic?
    - Does it boot into OS 9?
    - Does it has a built-in modem (port)?
    I know I know the last question seems stupid, but I am at work, can't look behind my iMac at home, need these answers quick 'cause I am thinking of selling it to my cousin who has been using a G4 Cube, so I can upgrade to an Intel iMac... ha ha ha
    Thanks all and cheers

    Have a look here, it has all the specs. It also says you cannot boot into OS 9.
    Hope this helps,

  • Tech question about installation, cabling, speed, ...

    The gentleman who owns the company I work for has a home office with regular ADSL. He only gets about 2Mb from this line and would like it faster if possible.
    I went on the BT checker page and it said Infinity was available and he could get 30Mb download speed. Please can someone tell me what end to end this check is conducted over? Does the test go all the way to the master socket in the house or does it just test between the 'exchange' and the BT box at the end of the street?
    The reason I ask is that he has 50-100m of old overhead cable going in to his property (big drive/garden) and this is the main reason he has always cited for the slow bandwidth issue on ADSL as neighbours who live closer to the BT box fair much better for ADSL speeds and a neighbour who recently had a new long overhead cable installed also did much better.
    I am concerned that if I order this product for him the speeds will be far lower than those promised because of the poor quality cables between his house and the BT box.
    Please can someone advise?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Infinitechris: the lady in the BT call centre I spoke to told me that it was the specific line in question that had been tested, although when I pressed her on the details of this (i.e. was it tested to the BT box or to the master socket in the house) she first said one, then later said the other. When I kept asking about this, she just kept telling me I didn't get it as it was fibre optic broadband. When I said the last 100m was an overhead cable and most definitely not fibre optic, she insisted that the line had been tested and the speeds she told me were the speeds I would get.
    PLC: His actual usage will be quite low - just a few GB per month but what he wants is for things to happen quickly when he is online.
    If you are just talking emails /web browsing, then he is hardly going to notice a speed improvement.
    If you are talking Downloading large files/ streaming/ youtube, Iplayer etc then yes you will notice the difference

  • MSI GF4 Ti4200 VTD8X tech question

    Hi everyone, I hope u can help me with this:
    I'm planning on buying a MSI GF4 Ti4200 VTD8X (Video In) from the United States which uses the NTSC system for Video, however where I live we use the PAL system for Video. So my question is will I be able to use the Video In feature of the card ?( ?? Do these cards work using both video systems or are there different video versions of the card?
    Thanks in advance!

    bondock,
    It is my understanding that they will work with both systems. They do not make them market specific.

  • Techie Question about iWeb, outbound links, and Google Analytics

    Hi,
    I have a kind of pretty technical question about using Google Analytics (GA) with iWeb sites to measure clicks on outbound links. Here's the setup:
    1) My website's online, and GA is working properly.
    2) I don't sell stuff directly, but I do have a "Purchase" page which contains a link to a specific Amazon page.
    3) I'm pretty sure I can measure how many people go to the Purchase page using GA, but how do I measure whether visitors click on the Amazon link? It would be interesting to me to be able to gauge what the conversion rate is; that is, how many people actually proceed to purchase the product at Amazon.
    I've checked the GA instructions and there's a page about manually tracking clicks on outbound links but it requires some code inputting. I know zero about coding, but I'm pretty sure that in iWeb you can't get access to the source code to input the required code.
    Am I wrong about this? And if I am, then does anyone here know how to measure the clickthrough rate?
    Anyway, hope you can help. Thanks in advance.

    I don't know about the link tracking but you could have the link take you to a redirect page which automatically sends them to Amazon.com after a preset time, 0 seconds to whatever you'd like. You can put a counter on that redirect page, like StatCounter. StatCounter can tell you how many, from where they came, i.e country and area, repeat visits, etc.
    Tutorials #12 & #13 describe how to put a visible counter on a page but with a redirect page you wouldn't have to bother since it wouldn't be seen. You can get all of your information from your account on the StatCounter site.
    The redirect page would be a simple plain text page titled redirect.html and would look like this:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
    "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="refresh"
    content="0; Destination URL">
    <title>Redirecting or whatever you'd like to appear at the top of the browser</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    </body>
    </html>
    0 Is the number of seconds to wait before redirecting the visitor. If set to zero the visitor would not know they were being redirected. Replace Destination URL with the Amazon URL you want them to go to.
