LTO 4 seems too slow

Dear All,
I purchased one LTO 4 with the SCSI card and cable. I inserted the hardware in SF V880. Now while taking 100 GB backup it takes around 1 hour and 10 minutes. According to the speed given for LTO 4 it was around 80 MB/sec but I did not see the backup in that way. Theoretical the backup must complete in around 20-25 min. Initially the backup with SDLT was around 1 hour and 22 min for the same size of backup. I can gain only 12 min gain that with LTO4 than SDLT. Can anyone please reply me what might be the cause for this slower speed with LTO 4? The backup is slow with both tar and ufsdump.

Printing Word Macro seems too slow

Hi everyone,
With the OLE2 Package I am opening a MS Word file, writing data in it. Using a macro I print it (it needs to be a macro because customer wants specific trays on the printer) and then close it using the package again.
The procedure doing all this seems to be too fast, because it tries to close the file before the macro has finished printing and then I always get an error message (from Word) if I really want to close the document before printing.
When I printed the file with OLE I could use the Option "no Background printing".
Is there something similar here?
How can I be sure that the macro (or the printing) could be executed completely before closing?

Hi Sheikh2,
I see your HP OfficeJet 8500 is now taking a long time to print a simple word document. Take a look at a few simple changes that could improve the print speed:
1. Reset the printer, unplug the power cord and pull apart the two pieces of the power supply. Leave unplugged for atleast 60 seconds
2. Make sure the printer is plugged directly into the wall outlet
3. Test another wall outlet and see if that improves the speed
Now if you're still running into slow printing speeds, I would like you to go ahead and start troubleshooting Slow Printing in Windows.

Socket seems too slow...maybe java.nio?

In our system I have to receive Multicast Packets repeats very quick(1-5 ms). I have to link them one after an other in the order they sent. And if I miss a packet, something will go wrong...
I have to listen to different IPs and I use different threads for different IPs. If I use only one thread (and listens to only one IP) everything seems ok.
But if I starts listening to an other ip too, I miss 2 packets in a row, or only one if I turn off parsing the message (XML).
Here is the code I use in the Threads:

Every Thread has its own parsing object.
Any tips, what is wrong?
Maybe java.nio could solve the problem somehow. There is a sample server in [Java Home]/sample/nio/server and it suggest that there are quicker methods to receive messages from different IPs (maybe Blocking/Pooled-Thread Server). But I can't understand the API and the Sample while I was reading it (20-30 minutes).
Could it be quicker? Does it worth toying with the idea?

a packet, something will go wrong...There is no guarantee anywhere in the system that you won't miss a datagram. UDP doesn't make such guarantees. If you need all the packets you will have to build ACK or NACK into your protocol.
You can alleviate the problem by running a very large socket receive buffer. But you can't eliminate it. Rethink this.
NIO is not significantly quicker for applications like this, it is more scalable.

Do you have the iPad busy doing many tasks while charging, perhaps without your knowledge? For example, do you have Bluetooth on, even though you are not intentionally using it? Are you using geofenced reminders (e.g., "remind me to ... when I arrive home")?
You can stop many tasks from running by double clicking the home button, seeing those tasks thar are currently running (displayed to the right of the home screen display), then swiping toward the top of your iPad the icon above the bottom one that shows the icon as it appears on your screen.

Time Capsule with ext HDD seems too slow for ethernet big file transfer

With new Snow Leopard on a Mac Mini, I have a wired Time Capsule with an external WD USB 2.0 HDD added. While moving files over 802.11N files seem to work fine, a full wired Ethernet connection seems to send the files too fast for the WD external drive to keep up. I get only the first 50Mb before the transfer gets corrupted. Isn't there a handshake that limits the file transmission to allow for the USB drive to stay ahead?
Has anyone else seen this? Is there a remedy?

7342 too slow on loading

I use 7342, it seems too slow to load parametres to the card between 20 ms and 40 ms : ( i have used canalyzer to check the time with 2 frames like below)

20 to 40 ms sounds a bit long but depending on your CPU, chipset and so on it's not extremely extraordinary.
If you want to reduce the time between two or more moves you should either use blending or contouring. In blend mode you can load the new move constraints for the next move while the current move is still running. With the blend factor you can either decide to accelerate the next move when the first move starts to decelerate (blend factor = -1) or wait for an adjustable number of ms between the moves.
Contouring allows you to download buffers with position data to the board. To learn more about both features please follow this link. Most of the examples in this tutorial are written in LabVIEW but it works the same way in C.
Here you can find some C examples (example1, example2) for blending. You will find more examples in the NI-Motion driver installation directory.

Checked to see how much free space there is on the startup disk lately?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

If disk space is not the issue, booting in Safe Mode deletes system caches that may help.
A Safe Mode boot takes longer then a normal boot so be patient.
Once you see the Desktop, click the Apple menu icon top left corner of the screen.
From the drop down menu click Restart.
See if that makes a difference ...

New iMac running 10.10.1 frequently pauses, way too slow

I recently bought a 27 inch iMac, installed Yosemite, and migrated my files by time machine from a 5 year old macbook Pro running Snow Leopard. Since updating to 10.10.1, I frequently get the spinning beachball while I wait to continue, and everything seems much slower than it should. Safari downloads take forever, compared to Firefox. I ran an EtreCheck report pasted below. I tried some easy fixes like removing desktop clutter, reducing transparency, but that doesn't affect the overall slowness. Any solutions welcome!
Problem description:
Installed Yosemite on new iMac, migrating from snow leopard on an older macbook pro. Instead of being fast, processes frequently pause for bit while the beachball spins, then resume. Way too slow, much slower than my old macbook pro.

Bumblebee performance is too slow

Hi everyone,
This is my second post in this forum and it has been only 2 days that I met Arch. Before, I was using Ubuntu for 3 years, but due to low performance in my PC, unfortunately, I decided to say good bye which was hard to say.
Now, I am trying to have the same setup as my previous laptop and Bumblebee was one of them. I followed the instructions here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bumblebee.
It seems that bumblebee is installed and working, however, the FPS is too slow:

This is impossible as I was getting very good results before.
I am wondering if I did something wrong, or missed anything.
Just for information, system specs:
Intel i7 2670QM 2.2 GHZ
4 GB RAM
1 GB GeForce GT 520MX
512 MB Intel Graphics
I played 0ad with and without optirun and the performance was good in both of them, but not sure if it switches the video cards itself.
I also have bbswitch installed.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Can you please explain in a little more detail the scenario you testing? Are you comparing a SQL Database in Europe against a SQL Database in India? Or a SQL Database with a local, on-premise SQL Server installation?
In case of the first scenario, the roundtrip latency for the connection to the datacenter might play a role.
If you are comparing to a local installation, please note that you might be running against completely different hardware specifications and without network delay, resulting in very different results.
In both cases you can use the below blog post to assess the resource utilization of the SQL Database during the operation:

If the DB utilizes up to 100% you might have to consider to upgrade to a higher performance level to achieve the throughput you are looking for.

Why am I getting this error message, "Disk is too slow. (Prepare) (-10001)"

Hello all! I've been using GarageBand for a while now and I've accumulated quite a few files. Along with all of my movies and iTunes library, my internal hard drive filled up rapidly and I didn't catch it. I received a warning message on my screen one day saying that my hard drive was nearly full and I only had a few MB available. I'm using a 150 GB Solid State Hard Disk on my 2009 MacBook Pro (2.6 GHz Intel Cre 2 Duo, 4 GB of RAM). I remembered reading a while back that it's better to use an external hard drive for pretty much everything when using Garageband, so I bought one. I now have a seagate 500 GB, 5400 rpm external (USB 2.0) and I moved ALL of my movies and music over to it. I freed up around 60 GB of space on my internal hard drive in doing so.
So now that I've given you a little background, let me explain the issue I'm having. Before I noticed that my hard drive was full, I started receiving this error message:
Disk is too slow. (Prepare)
(-10001)
Upon receiving this message, I was unable to do pretty much anything in GarageBand. I couldn't listen to tracks, export to iTunes, or do anything! All I'm using GarageBand for is editing. My band and I do all our recording (and mixing) offsite at a separate studio and i just deliver a 2 track stereo signal (L/R) to my MacBook. From there, I just cut the individual tracks from a block of 30-45 minutes of recording because we just record our entire studio session and mix everything there. I pretty much never have more than two tracks and a few effects going at the same time.
After I realized that my disk was nearly full, I consulted my brother-in-law. He's head of the IT Deartpment at a major hospital here in West L.A. and he told me that I may have created a problem with the cache by filling up my internal hard drive and that I may still have issues with performance even after I free up space. He then told me that I may need to reboot my MacBook a few time to "free up the cache" (or something close to that, sorry guys I'm not that tech-savvy). It seems he may have been right, as I'm still experiencing the same issue. I rebooted around 10 times overall to no avail. I'm still using my internal hard drive to store the files that I'm working on (temporarily) because USB 2.0 is way too slow for my liking, when using GarageBand.
I've read quite a few articles on this offering solutions such as:
1. Do a complete Uninstall and Reinstall of GarageBand
2. Clone my hard drive to my external, format it, and reinstall everything back on it
3. Get a hard drive that supports Firewire 800 (The HDD I bought is USB 2.0, but it has two USB cables to increase speed, but I only have 1 port and I tried a powered USB Hub, but this HDD won't work with it for some reason).
4. Use different editing software.
5. Take it to Apple!
Will any of these things fix my problem? Are some better than others? Before I do anything, I wanted to ask this question on the furum to see if anybody had an easier (or cheaper!) solution. Any suggestions, tips, or advice would be much appreciated, as my band is starting to get on my case about finishing our CD! Thanks...

Have a look into the Preferences folder (YourUserFolder/Libraries/Preferences/) and trash all Logic preferences.
You'll have to setup the program again.

HP Laserjet M1132 MFP is too slow over the network!

My HP Laserjet M1132 MFP is too slow over the network!
I have connect the printer to a windows XP 32bit SP3 using UBS port. The printer works fine on the local computer but when sharing it over the network it works too slow, for example with print test page it takes about 45 seconds to print and for other documents it takes much longer time.
I have installed the latest driver form HP website and upgrade the firmware it the latest version.
It happens on other Windows XP machines as well.
I connected the printer to my laptop (Windows 7 64bit) and it works fine (No delays over the network) and it seems that this problem have some relations with the windows XP Driver.
I have used local port trick on remote machines (instead of regular method) like this:
''add a local printer;
'new port'
'localport'
\\XPcomputer\HPPrinterName as port name
but still nothing!
There is nothing wrong with the network, we use to use a Samsung printer on the same machines over the network with no problem.

BEHZAD_T, how is the printer connected to the network (wireless or Ethernet)? If it is slow wirelessly, I would suggest trying to connect the printer to your router with the Ethernet cord and install it to the networked computer that way.
Another question is, relatively speaking, how close to your router are the Samsung printer and the HP printer? Depending on the distance (and what stands between the devices) there can be a lag between sending a print job and it being received by the printer.

Golive CS2 too slow on my Mac g5 to get any work done?

For the past 2 years I have been slowly building a rather large web site (about 2000 hours invested). We will be selling items we import from india (my girlfriend and I spend 3 moths a year in India) and then there is an entire section on India travel tips, photos and travel logs.
I am pleased with Golive 6.01 and recently converted my site to CS2, just to find it is very slow on my macintosh G5 and many weird bugs And site looks the same as in 6.01 when previewed in various browsers. Also in CS2 when I click on preview button, the page I want to work on closes and the page that brought me to that page pops up.
I bought a G5 macintosh which should run CS2 more quickly but:
I have yet to see my site in Explorer 7 for Windows because Microsoft did not make Explorer for Mac after version 5.0.
My question is:
Why not complete site in 6.01 and then before it is published convert to CS2. I can't get anything done with CS2 it is just way too slow.

Hi all:
Been cleaning up Site (weird files not in my site but on desktop keep showing up as errors) got ride of them. Turned of my internet connection). Things seem to be getting better.......for now. Working on G4....will move to my G5 and see.
Might pull this one out.
Why several target files with only one source show as an error is an irratation because help says it's not really an error and can be ignored.
OH...one quick question do SOURCE files get uploaded to host when one publishes? Or perhaps a better question! Do SOURCE files need to be uploaded to host. I suspect not...but I also suspect It's OK..might just slow things down a bit?

Calling a multi value parameter seems to slow down report

Hi
Nearly all of my datasets use a multi value parameter at present which from testing seems to be causing a long delay.
If I change the dataset to not call the parameter and manually enter the values in this works quicker, the only issue being if I need to add an additional value I need to then do it on multiple datasets rather than one parameter.
A way around this I thought was to do the below which doesn't seem as slow as my original method.
To try better explain I have done this
SELECT
Practice.ibvSalesByJob.JobType
FROM
Practice.ibvSalesByJob
WHERE
Practice.ibvSalesByJob.JobType IN (N'1', N'4', N'5', N'8', N'12', N'17', N'40', N'45', N'60')
I then have a parameter which has default values > dataset > JobType
The actual dataset shown in the report then shows
WHERE
Practice.ibvSalesByJob.JobType IN (@ABSJobs)
Does this make sense or is there a better way of doing what I am trying to do?
Is there a known issue with Report Builder 3.0 and multiple parameters?
Any help/advice appreciated.

Hi Chris,
According to your description, when you create a multivalued parameter, then specify its values from a dataset, the report is running slower.
In Reporting Services, all datasets within a report will be retrieved when running the report. In your scenario, if you specify the parameter values from a dataset, it’s possible to cause performance issue. If parameter doesn’t have too many values, you
could specify the values for the parameter with specified values in Report Parameter Properties.
Besides, in Reporting Service, the total time to generate a report include TimeDataRetreval, TimeProcessing and TimeRendering. In your scenario, you could run the report in report server, check the table
Executionlog3 in the ReportServer database to analyze which section take much time. Then you can refer to this article to optimize your report:

Disk Too Slow??? Why now?

Hello all,
I have been using Logic Pro for the last five years on my system with no problems and all of a sudden, now I can't record a single audio track without a "Disk Too Slow" problem. Literally, the project can have only one track and it will still give me an error.
My System:
PowerMac Dual G5 2.5GHz w/ 3GB RAM
Mac OSX 10.4.11
160 GB Hard Drive (provided by Apple) - 58.9 GB left - Logic installed here
250 GB Hard Drive - 130 GB left - recording done on here
M-Audio Project Mix I/O
For years I have been recording with Logic and I've never had this problem. I haven't done anything new, haven't installed anything new, or anything like that and just now I've been having these problems. I'm a DJ and audio recording constantly for upwards of 90 minutes straight is vital.
Here's what I've done:
* Tried changing buffer settings (set from 128 --> 512)
* Tried making sure no other applications are running
* Tried emptying trash
* Tried turning off Airport
Nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Sorry to read you are having troubles with this.
I have had the same troubles since Tuesday. All of a sudden I started getting Beach Balls and "Disc too slow". A few occasions I had a message saying that my "midi port was not found" on my MOTU.
Here what I spent the last couple of days doing.... I am sure you have tried them all but maybe something here may help
With some kind help from a forum regular, I reset my MOTU interface to factory settings. I repaired my permissions on my system drive.
I ran a "check disc" for my external audio drive, it past every time, but I repaired it any way.
I took my drive out of the firewire case to check the connections because it seemed it could be a power issue, tried it in another case. (I put the drive together so I felt comfortable doing this)
I also removed a plug in that I had added IK CSR reverb, I had installed it the day my system started giving me "disc too slow" messages.
I also removed all of my TRacks plugins from sessions, they are resource hogs and may have not been helping.
I also trashed my logic preferences.
Things at the moment are looking better.
If my problem still exists it may be in my case the drive being on its way out. It is only a year and a half old, and dose pass disc utility tests every time.
So I am thinking that I may have been mixing out my machine with plugs then having to do hard re-boots not helping things.
Sorry to hijack things, just hoping that we can maybe find a common cause, and solution,
