Luck with non-Apple, non-bud headphones?

I just purchased the in-ear buds for $39.00 and plan on returning them because they aren't comfortable. What non-Apple headphones seem to work well with the iPod? I tried my old over-the-ear clunkers but they sounded tinny on the iPod, so I'm worried that weak sound might just be a characteristic of non-bud, larger headphones.

Any headphones should work with the iPod, as long as they have the standard size plug (it's hard to find one that doesn't).
My guess is that tinny sound was the headphones, not the general style of headphones.

The big, clunky headphones usually have the best sound cancellation, if that is a big deal to you. However, earbuds are smaller and easier to transport. You can get very high quality sound cancelling earbuds, but they cost a lot more than the headphones (most likely).
