Lumia 1020 no add Internet APN menu

I have a  Lumia 1020 and the current carrier in the ABOUT section of the settings is Australia Model 909 windows 8.1  When setting up for ATT's Consumers Cellular, when I try to edit the Internet APN their is no add Internet APN menu selection under SIM settings. The selection reads : Network selection and the choice is ethier automatic or search for networks. I need some help, can this device be used in the USA.

Hi, WmBill. When you say "windows 8.1", does it run with the Lumia Cyan update? You may see it under the Settings > extras+info. Make sure that all system apps are updated by scanning the QR codes from this link: Nokia Windows Phone 8 App Updates. About your next concern, is your phone locked to your network operator? Are you located in Australia? Check if both countries have the same frequency bands, see: http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html. Also, it is best to coordinate with your network operator to inquire if they have partnered with the service provider in the US so that you may be able to use their services.
Keep us posted. BTW, we appreciate your visit here on our forum.

  • Add MMS APN to Unlocked 8X

I bought a Verizon 8X because it's unlocked,  and I took it with me overseas and put in another SIM card. I am able to make phone calls and go on the Internet; the only thing I cannot do is SMS and MMS. When I go into settings to add Internet APN or MMS APN, it does not save my settings. Can somebody help me figure this out? Am I missing something, or is there a Verizon restriction even though it's unlocked?

I'm in a similar situation excepting that I can't access the internet even though I'm using my old sim card here in Germany.  Would be interested in knowing if anyone else has had the same problem.

  • Lumia 1020 adds yellow tint to photos

I'm posting this because numerous other people have posted with the same major issue, and there seems to be no update on what is happening...

My 1020 will take a crisp, beautiful shot and then after viewing it for a few seconds, a yellow tint is added to the photo and some clarity seems to be lost.  It happens with any white balance setting and isn't fixable within Creative Studio.
I may be mistaken, but it seems like this problem just started.  (I have had my phone for about 5 days).  I will try to re-create some photos I took last week and see if, indeed, this odd processing problem just started.
I would really like to know if this is a hardware issue or a software issue, and if Nokia is aware of this and if they plan on providing a solution.
I attached 2 screenshots.  The first is the photo I want and the second is after it is processed.
For a few seconds I can see the photo that I want... I paid $200 to have that photo when I want it, what's going on?

Thanks Ceron - I suspected as much that it was the Amber update (ironically why else would it be so aptly called the "Amber" update? ) and that it would require a firmware level fix for the camera.  I would hope that if Nokia suspects its on MS side that they will be working very closely with them...and quickly.  I guess I am hoping that the update that ruined it was on the side of Nokia in the Amber update (since they did add their own features to it).  Either way I certainly hope they get their act together and issue the fix in GDR3 or whatever you want to call the next one.  I still dont understand how Apple can issue an over the air update in days time without all this carrier review BS and the rest of us have to wait weeks or months for something.  That needs to be addressed if they hope to compete.  Should we be hammering MS support sites as well?  Anyone know of links to dedicated WP support site and if anyone has posted this there?

  • Lumia 1020 isn't recognized by Windows 8.1

I just installed Windows 8.1 and when I plug in my Lumia 1020, it isn't recognized.  In Device Manager it shows up under "Other Devices" as "Nokia Lumia 909 (RM-877)".  I understand that the 909 and the 1020 are the same so no mystery there.  When I right click and tell it to update the drivers, it says that there are no drivers available.
I read in another thread where someone was having a similar problem and powering off the phone and then reconnecting it via the USB cable seemed to cause it to be recognized.  I am not having any success doing that.  I have gone through the steps listed by Microsoft also without any luck.
I also have a laptop running Windows 7 and my phone is recognized by that computer without any trouble at all.  So, I don't *think* it is a hardware problem.
I went so far as to re-install my OS.  I patched it, updated the BIOS and didn't connect or install anything else (besides the patches) before connecting my 1020.  Once I hooked up my 1020, still nothing.  Can't update drivers from the internet or from the downloaded drivers.
    What is going on?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Look at other devices that are not loaded correctly.  Not the USB
If your operating system did not come with Windows Media Player, install the Media Feature Pack for your version of the operating system.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/download-windows-media-player
Use the USB cable that came with the phone.
Connect the phone to the PC.  Turn it all the way off, hold power button and slide the screen down. The phone will turn back on and it will be detected, drivers should load.
You should see it in windows explorer. It should install in 'portable devices' in the device manager.

Just this evening wanted to take an interesting night composition, pressed the camera button...instead of it to come on, was greeted with a humming sound.... Of sort... The app wouldn't open, tot it was d app with the problem...den turned on my flashlight app, but also greeted the d strange sound...also the light won't come on... I am really disappointed and getting forstrated by Nokia...
    what can I do?

    Hello, victovic2000.
Thank you for posting and welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions.
Sorry for the inconvenience it is causing you. By the way, how was the phone now? Is it still doing the same thing? Is it happening to the default camera only or same with the other camera app? Did something happen to your phone prior to the issue? Is your phone's software up-to-date?
You may check if there's an available software update for your phone by going to Settings > Phone updates. Note that a stable internet connection is needed. We encourage you to use Wi-Fi instead. You may also consider doing a 'full reset' by going to Settings > About > Reset your phone. Make sure to backup your files to avoid data loss. • Lumia 1020 contacts shown partially

    Hello
Just purchased Nokia Lumia 1020 few days ago and I'm still struggling to get all my contacts from Android to Windows Phone.
I've tried these import methods so far:
Backed up my contacts on Android to SIM and imported those contacts to Windows Phone contacts
Used Transfer My Data on Windows Phone
    Both cases showed no errors.
Weird thing is that if I try to import from SIM again it says that they are all in Contacts and when I search for contacts they are all there*, but when I browse my contacts only very small portion of all my contacts are shown
I need to see them all
    * - All contacts are also shown in Windows 8 Mail client under People
PS Some things I don't like about that phone:
    Battery is not replaceable
My BT headset isn't working that I used with SE Arc, yet my ancient (8-9 years old) BT headset works with Lumia (didn't work with Arc), but it's just an earpiece, I can't listen music with it. (Could be Sony Ericsson restriction, headset and Lumia hands free BT profiles are both 1.5)
No HDMI output for a high-end phone ?
Can't add additional storage in the form of a SD card or some other card
    Solved!

Some of your contacts will probably be on your google account. Export them from there
    Log in to http://contacts.google.com
export contacts to a .csv file (more>export)
Download and install Windows Mail from the Windows Essentials
Log in with your Microsoft account
    Import the .csv file
Your contacts will sync to  your Microsoft account and your phone as a result
If you are not on Windows 8 then Windows Mail is actually a pretty convenient mail client to manage your calendars and contacts on your PC.

  • How to connect lumia 1020 to projector

hi! somebody knows how to connect lumia 1020 to projector??? maybe exists any programs for it? i want to make a presentation in a real time direct from my phone Lumia 1020!
    Thanks in advance

The Lumia 1020 does not support tv or video out via cable. You can play media stored on the phone via wifi to a DLNA enabled player. This won't work for Powerpoint.
A possible workaround is to use the Nokia Beamer app to share whatever appears on your phones display to an internet connected tv or display.

  • Cannot update my nokia lumia 1020 fully...

    Hello all,
I have contacted Nokia recently and all they suggest is a factory reset, but firstly the only computer I have is a WINXP computer(which is not supported for backup) and secondly,I don't want to spend hours(If I could backup) reloading stuff back on the phone for an update issue!
Hope you guys can help..Here is my scenerio...Completely NOT my fault
I have two phones on my account,BOTH are the same exact phone models, which are Nokia Lumia 1020's.
When the update FIRST came out for Cyan a while back,I was one of those ones (foolishly now I might add)to jump right on the update and download it when it first became available(within two days)...It went through and installed successfully, phone came on..no problem or so I thought...However,I was missing the "Cortana" feature on the phone! Everything else was there except for "Cortana"...It wasn't listed under the "applications" either.
Now this is where it gets funky. My wife who has the other SAME model phone decided to WAIT to update her phone until 3 days ago. Guess what? It went through with no issues as mine had,but she now HAS Cortana installed on her phone!!!
The only difference in the settings for phone information between my phone and her phone is the "Hardware Revision number" which for me is 3.3.0.2.    Hers is 3.3.0.3.
Everything else including the OS version,firmware,etc..etc...is exactly the same on both phones.
I contacted Nokia and the only thing they could tell me was to check my date and time and region on the phone, which was already of course set correctly to US and the proper time zone and date.
If I go in and try and run the "check for updates" now on my phone,it tells me that there are no updates available, and my phone is up to date.
    GRRRRR!
Now they recommend a factory reset and a "Tool" on their website which will erase all data on the phone and put a spanking new OS reinstall on my phone, but it will wipe out all my contents. Like I said before,I cannot backup because of my XP system which is not supported. Why should I have to format anyway, since this was SUPPOSED to be a simple OS upgrade which should not force me to do this. If they tested it extensively before they shot it out to the public when they first released it,they would have seen that "Cortana" was missing. Evidently they have fixed that bug,but I am still upset because I basically want Nokia to send me (or to email me)a link to download a executable file to my phone that could reinstall the OS without going through this factory reset crap. They won't do anything like this...This is their muckup, releasing a incomplete update. How was I supposed to know that the update they released for download at that time was incomplete?  Since this is clearly their issue,I believe they should help me resolve it by "pushing" a force reinstall on my particular phone without having to go through an unnecessary factory reset, and then the major pain of putting everything back on the phone(and that's if I had the proper computer in the first place!)  I know Nokia could do this if they wanted to. All they need is the hardcore details on my phone.
I'm not very happy with Nokia service on this, and thought they would help me to a greater extent than this.  I guess my only other option is to "WAIT" for them to put out another update for the phone, and then try and install that. But who knows when that is going to be? I can't enjoy a nice feature on the phone for all this time, but my wife can. This sucks. After this fiasco,You can bet I'm surely not going to download it immediately after release as I may run into the same problem and bugs are still in it.
Anyone with any ideas/suggestions/support?  I'd love to hear from ya,thanks to all for reading.
    Mike

  • Is it possible to sync Lumia 1020 with Windows Con...

I was considering a Lumia 1020 (or perhaps an upcoming version with same camera capability), but something seems to be wrong there.
For now I am still using a Nokia N8 together with Nokia Suite. I can sync my Windows Contacts *including the contact image for each contact* (where available). Also, when I am on my desk, I send and read received SMS messages exclussively on PC, phone connected via bluetooth. No cable, no cloud involved, I even don't have to touch or look at phone itself.
Some time ago, during one of the Nokia Suite upgrades, I remember it said something like „added compatibility with Lumia phones”. However, these days I read that Lumia is only compatible with Zune, which AFAIK is merely a multimedia sync platform.
I don't want to upload my contacts in cloud (any cloud, regardless the owner).
I don't want to install Outlook. I seem to remember that the Outlook version I already have cannot use the xml Windows Contacts, but only the older Address book or something. As for contact pictures, no way.
So, question: assuming I own a Lumia 1020, can I use Nokia Suite the same I was used to ?
If not, Zune is able to handle the Windows Contacts in same way ?
What about sending and reading received SMS messages using the PC ?

That I begin to understand. I don't care much about what brand, but for my work I do care about a very good phone camera with xenon flash and a good associated PC application where I can copy and paste strings to and from SMS messages (among other things). So it seems I have to look elsewhere.
Too bad. Nokia 808 was a perfect thing for this purpose, but unfortunately it was never marketed in my geographical location. Now things only gets worse.
        paulheu wrote:
actually IMO no modern day Smartphone OS would be really.
Wrong. I tested direct contacts sync between a Samsung Galaxy tablet with my PC using their dedicated application, Kies. The contacts imported well into the tablet, *including contact pictures*, which is what I am looking for. I didn't checked the messaging since the tablet was not a phone, but I suspect that it also works. Unfortunately the actual photos taken with Samsung phone cameras that are equipped also with xenon flash are of lower quality than those taken with Nokia 808 or Lumia 1020.
        paulheu wrote:
If you feel this way you should actually not be on the internet anyway.
No really. I'm on internet since 1995 when only meteorological clouds were in existence and I didin't encounter any problem browsing the internet then because of that. In 2004 the software that accompanied my Motorola E398 was able to do both address book sync and handle SMS messages just pure and simple, via cable or BT. Then my Nokia N73 and later Nokia N8 were able to do same things through Ovi/Nokia Suite, still directly, including contact pictures sync if on Windows Vista or later.
Today (2015 already) I've been told that things have evolved, so I can no longer exchange some trivial information between two devices located near to each other, but instead I have to use thousands of miles distances, to have an account somewhere, to be logged in, etc., only to transfer something between myself and myself, actually the same something as yesterday.
Frankly I'm glad to hear that this internet is not for me.
Without wanting this specifically (on the contrary), it appears that I am forced to consider also this company not (or no longer) compatible with me.

  • Lumia 1020 not detected via USB on Windows 7 PCs

Hello - I hope you can help.
My new Lumia 1020 is not detected on any of 3 Windows 7 PCs I have access to. When plugged in the phone will begin to charge but the PC does not detect the phone at all  - it doesn't appear under device manager in any guise (no portable devices or unrecognised devices).
    OS 8.0.10517.150
    Windows 7 64 and 32 bit
I have follwed advice on similar threads and been through the nokiatechsupport.co.uk troubleshooter on the issue which took me through the following:
Install Windows Phone app for Desktop
I just get the 'connect your phone' screen despite restarts of both phone and PC. Also tried switching the phone off and then plugging in = same result.
    Factory Rest
Same result - phone is not detected, nothing appears in device manager.
I've also tried installing the Nokia software recovery tool but that doesn't see the phone either.
Have tried different USB ports on all PCs.
Any help much appreciated, otherwise next step is talking to my network support I guess?
    Thanks
    Iain
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Use the USB cable that came with the phone.  Have you always done this?
A device that is under lock screen may not be detected and drivers will not load.
The desktop phone sync program provides nothing that will help the phone be detected.
The phone has to be seen by the PC and identified. When this happens the drivers are downloaded from the internet for the phone. Having the drivers does no good if the phone is not identified by the PC.
If you have access to other Win7 or 8 PC's try connecting to them. If you take it to anybody that is the first thing they will do. This helps determine if it is the phone or the PC.
If you take somewhere use Nokia Care.
One thing I saw today, user having the same problem. On the phone, start an app that connects to the internet, like a news app. Then connect the phone to the PC.
There are phones that won't connect.
You should see it in windows explorer. It should install in 'portable devices' in the device manager.

  • Remove 802.1X icon from Internet Connect menu?

Is it possible to remove the 802.1X icon from the Internet Connect menu?
When you open Internet Connect, you will have a window with couple icons on the top: Summary, Bluetooth, Airport, VPM, etc. Is it possible to remove the icon 802.1X?
I've tried command drag it, which does make it disappear, but when you quit Internet Connect and opens it again, that icon will re-appear.
Does anyone know the trick to remove this icon?

    Hi Kuo,
This icon doesn't show up at all on either of my macs. Further, I don't seem to be able to add or remove any of the icons that appear in Internet Connect.
It sounds like it might be something added by third-party hardware or software. I say that because 802.1x is the same connection protocol used by Airport. The only difference is that Airport is an Apple trademark. Do you use a third-party wireless card? Or have you done so in the past?

  • "Add MMS APN" option?

    Hi Verizon,
I'm looking to configure my Verizon HTC 8X (Windows Phone) to work with an international SIM I bought. I was told to configure the MMS APN settings from the Settings > Cellular menu, but I cannot find the "Add MMS APN" button. Am I missing something? Has it been removed from Verizon phones?
    Thanks,
    -Julien

Hey Arnett -- Unfortunately the international carrier has referred me to VZW once more. I'm currently in the US and I cannot get MMS to work on my 8X with this sim card. However, I can confirm that the sim card is not the issue -- I've plugged into other VZW phones and it worked fine only after I changed the MMS APN settings on these other phones.
The VZW 8X I have does not seem to have the option of changing the MMS APN settings (even though 8Xs on other carriers do, as I mentioned previously).
    Thanks for your assistance,

  • Micro SD Card for Nokia Lumia 1020

I work in a photo printing lab and over the years technology has changed in many different ways. Customers have moved from the old film cameras to digital cameras. But now they are moving from digital cameras to phone cameras. This move is because of the improved image quality.
I was very excited to hear of Nokias new release the Lumia1020. The image quality of the 1020 has far surpassed anything else on the market. This was the phone that I've been waiting for.
But as I work in a photo lab and deal with many customers with many different types of camera phones. I see the difficulties most of them have with printing a few pictures. Bluetooth is very slow. Using a cable works only 5% of the time. infrared doesn't work anymore on most of the new machines.
But 50% of the phones use SD CARDS. Its simple, fast and the most efficient way of printing your images.
The phone that I've been waiting for, the Nokia Lumia1020, does Not use SD CARD. I hope I've received the wrong information about this phone. For me it is essential to actually print the photographs that i take. And without the use of an SD CARD i would find it difficult to do this.
If the Nokia lumia 1020 specifications are correct. Then I'll have to wait a little bit longer to upgrade my phone. If anything happens to my Nokia N8. I'll have some serious decisions to make.
Can anyone prove me wrong on the Nokia lumia 1020 specifications?

    jimmyireland said:
"Not strange at all that lower end support sd .Built in memory vs sd card is all cost."
I still would say that a more expensive line should be worth the cost since as customers we are paying a premium for it. So although it is "all cost" customers deserve more since we are paying more.
    garym11 said:
"Most memory cards are mounted internally which requires removing the back cover and in most instances the battery."
If Nokia would put their minds to it Im confident that their clever engineers would be able to provide a hot swapable solution somewhere externally at the same time make it look good and not interfere with usage ie needing to take battery out. Woulnt this just showcase another of Nokia's engineering prowess?
"I can upload my pictures to skydrive..."
If you were to take many hidef pix, movies etc, how long would it take to upload to skydrive as compared to transfering an sd card onto your pc? Or even putting in a blank memory card a making immediately available huge numbers of GB?
"Removing a memory card to transger data is old school"
I have to go the other direction. Adding memory card support only adds more fuctionality to the phone. Adds more room to install apps, add more room to store music, vids that you can keep with you. Adds the ability to add virtually unlimited storage to your phone. And dont forget the cost of data from your network provider when your away from your wifi.
Scenario I like to have my phone stocked with the apps I like. Now this uses some space. I have pics and vids of nice memeories I like to keep with me on the phone and I like to keep a lot with me thus reducing the fixed storage of the phone. If Im outside taking pictures/vids, the more I take the less my avaliable storage becomes. Isnt it a very practicle thing to do that I whip out a memory card and viola 64GB of storage without needing to shut off the phone.
Now isnt that a big plus? If more space does not equal a plus then why would MS charge you more for more skydrive space? Its because its a premium. You might say "how on earth are you gona use all that space on the phone and on skydrive?" Years ago people also thought 200GB was massive for a HDD. You will find a way to use it. And if you cant use that space others will.

  • Lumia 1020 | High battery usage

    Hi,
I´m wondering if 20% battery usage while doing some whatsapp messaging and internet browsing per hour is the normal behavior of the Lumia 1020?
I only have battery sense, Bing weather and Whatsapp activated as background tasks. Bluetooth and NFC is turned off. I usually close my apps after using them so I only have one or two apps running. Screen Brightness is set to low.
    Thanks!

Genrally I just use anything I like when I have access to top up, ie sat at m,y desk using usb charger, if out and about tend to turn off most apps and radio antenna to save power, or carry mobile charger with me. As you proved either flight mode or not using the phone drastically reduces power consumption. My phone generally lasts the working day even if used heavily, if I am busy actuallt working and not playeing on my phone it will have over 60% left at the end of the working day and that's with Twitter, FB and two mail accounts running along with a couple of other apps, Bluetooth , wifi and 3G.
If whatsapp is the culprit , just turn off when you know you will not be able to get a top up charge.
    Good Luck
