Lumia 1020 rattle sounds

Hello!
Is it normal for the camera module on a Nokia Lumia 1020 to make a rattle sound when shaken lightly, like there would be a bead loose inside, when the phone is completely turned off?
I know it is normal for the OIS to make such sounds, but does this apply for the situation when the phone is powered down?
Thank you.

  • Lumia 930: rattling sound

Hello, I just received my Lumia 930. When I gently shake it, it makes a rattling sound (if that's the right word), like something small inside is loose. Is this normal?
Somebody mentioned to me this is the camera unit. But not sure. Should I return it?

  • My Nokia Lumia 1020 camera not working anymore

I bought this my Nokia Lumia 1020 with so much excitement, and it arrived on Saturday...got to it on Sunday night and dived in to the camera...amazing! I said... Just this evening wanted to take an interesting night composition, pressed the camera button...instead of it to come on, was greeted with a humming sound.... Of sort... The app wouldn't open, tot it was d app with the problem...den turned on my flashlight app, but also greeted the d strange sound...also the light won't come on... I am really disappointed and getting forstrated by Nokia...
    what can I do?

    Hello, victovic2000.
Thank you for posting and welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions.
Sorry for the inconvenience it is causing you. By the way, how was the phone now? Is it still doing the same thing? Is it happening to the default camera only or same with the other camera app? Did something happen to your phone prior to the issue? Is your phone's software up-to-date?
You may check if there's an available software update for your phone by going to Settings > Phone updates. Note that a stable internet connection is needed. We encourage you to use Wi-Fi instead. You may also consider doing a 'full reset' by going to Settings > About > Reset your phone. Make sure to backup your files to avoid data loss. • Nokia Lumia 1020 Recording Questions

I'm planning on recording a show that I am involved in with a Nokia Lumia 1020 (which I haven't actually got yet), but was wondering whether it's possible to use the 1020 as just a camcorder and live capture/save the video file to a laptop?
I've heard ways of doing it with a camcorder and live capturing it straight into Sony Vegas.
But getting a new phone sounds much better than getting a new camcorder or camera.
Also, one other reason for me thinking of using the 1020 is because the previous cameras we've used to record shows haven't been great at recording in a theatre and seem to get a bit drowned in light, since the theatre itself is dark (especially at the back where the camera will be) and the stage is flooded with bright stage lights, it often makes the dances and dancers look bad.
Do you think the Lumia 1020 would be alright with this situation?
    So, two questions there!
    Thanks,
    Joe!

I would be sure that you have nothing on your device memory to ensure that you have enough memory. it is going to record in 1080p unless you choose otherwise. so the file is going to be big.
I do not believe there is a way to record using your 1020 and have it live save to a memory outside of the device memory. at least, I have not heard of or seen anything to say this is possible.
coloring, imo, should be pretty good. so long as there isn't any lights aimed directly at the camera. I have been very happy with its videos that it creates.

  • Spotify on Lumia 1020 (Denim) extremely slow and buggy

Hi, Does anyone have the same problem and got rid of it? I just got the Lumia 1020 with the Denim Update (previously Samsung Galaxy S4) and it is so slowly - it needs 20-30 seconds to open the app. Moreover, changing between Playlists needs more time or even does not work. Thanks for your help, cheers

    Hi heissahussa, I have Lumia 735 with latest updates to Denim. I have been using Spotify for year now at Lumia. In the beginning it was OK. But for many months now it has been painstakingly slow. When opening, there always loading indicator going for ages. This issue may have everything to do with Denim update. I frustrated so much that I did uninstall the app.Then decided to give it ago, and installed it again. Did not help. Almost every time some operation goes stuck loading...loading.... Lumia's MixRadio works better, that's the only way for me to listen to something (and sync offline). If I don't want to wait forever, I mean. There is problem with bluetooth, too. When listening offline tracks over bluetooth with car stereo, sound is stuttering. With Samsung Android 4 it worked perfectly. I'm not going to stick with Spotify much longer, almost had enough. cheers     <script>// if (typeof(lpcurruser) == 'undefined') lpcurruser = ''; if (document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt') && document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value != '') { lpcurruser = document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value; document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value = ''; } if (typeof(lpcurrpass) == 'undefined') lpcurrpass=''; if (document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt') && document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value != '') { lpcurrpass = document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value; document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value = ''; } var lploc="1";var lponlyfill=null; if (lploc==3){ var lpdontsubmit=1; var _lpdoc=document; var _frm=_lpdoc.getElementById('js-login-form-email'); var _lu=_lpdoc.getElementById('login-username'); var _lp=_lpdoc.getElementById('login-password'); if (_frm && _lp && _lu) { if (_lu) _lu.value=lpcurruser; if (_lp) _lp.value=lpcurrpass; } if (!lponlyfill) { _lpdoc.getElementById('login-button-login-submit').click(); } } lpcurruser = ''; lpcurrpass = ''; // </script> <script>// if (typeof(lpcurruser) == 'undefined') lpcurruser = ''; if (document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt') && document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value != '') { lpcurruser = document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value; document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value = ''; } if (typeof(lpcurrpass) == 'undefined') lpcurrpass=''; if (document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt') && document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value != '') { lpcurrpass = document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value; document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value = ''; } var lploc="1";var lponlyfill=null; if (lploc==3){ var lpdontsubmit=1; var _lpdoc=document; var _frm=_lpdoc.getElementById('js-login-form-email'); var _lu=_lpdoc.getElementById('login-username'); var _lp=_lpdoc.getElementById('login-password'); if (_frm && _lp && _lu) { if (_lu) _lu.value=lpcurruser; if (_lp) _lp.value=lpcurrpass; } if (!lponlyfill) { _lpdoc.getElementById('login-button-login-submit').click(); } } lpcurruser = ''; lpcurrpass = ''; // </script> <script>// if (typeof(lpcurruser) == 'undefined') lpcurruser = ''; if (document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt') && document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value != '') { lpcurruser = document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value; document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value = ''; } if (typeof(lpcurrpass) == 'undefined') lpcurrpass=''; if (document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt') && document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value != '') { lpcurrpass = document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value; document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value = ''; } var lploc="1";var lponlyfill=null; if (lploc==3){ var lpdontsubmit=1; var _lpdoc=document; var _frm=_lpdoc.getElementById('js-login-form-email'); var _lu=_lpdoc.getElementById('login-username'); var _lp=_lpdoc.getElementById('login-password'); if (_frm && _lp && _lu) { if (_lu) _lu.value=lpcurruser; if (_lp) _lp.value=lpcurrpass; } if (!lponlyfill) { _lpdoc.getElementById('login-button-login-submit').click(); } } lpcurruser = ''; lpcurrpass = ''; // </script> <script>// if (typeof(lpcurruser) == 'undefined') lpcurruser = ''; if (document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt') && document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value != '') { lpcurruser = document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value; document.getElementById('lpcurruserelt').value = ''; } if (typeof(lpcurrpass) == 'undefined') lpcurrpass=''; if (document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt') && document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value != '') { lpcurrpass = document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value; document.getElementById('lpcurrpasselt').value = ''; } var lploc="1";var lponlyfill=null; if (lploc==3){ var lpdontsubmit=1; var _lpdoc=document; var _frm=_lpdoc.getElementById('js-login-form-email'); var _lu=_lpdoc.getElementById('login-username'); var _lp=_lpdoc.getElementById('login-password'); if (_frm && _lp && _lu) { if (_lu) _lu.value=lpcurruser; if (_lp) _lp.value=lpcurrpass; } if (!lponlyfill) { _lpdoc.getElementById('login-button-login-submit').click(); } } lpcurruser = ''; lpcurrpass = ''; // </script>

  • Lumia 1020 SIM card error after WP8.1 update

I updated my wife's Lumia 1020 to WP8.1. Ever since there has been random SIM card errors. The phone just drops the network while it's idle (not during the phone calls) and gives an error message "SIM card error".
Anybody who has experienced the similar thing after installing WP8.1 update???
If there's someone from Nokia/Microsoft support team reading this: what should be done in order to get rid of this aforementioned thing?

    Sensonic wrote:

The cause, yes. However, that firmware update might have – a guess – broken the hardware forever. Again, it could just be coincidence. I am not able to rule that out from the distance. You have two options: Wait for a firmware patch (which might do a lot of magic and repairs hardware) – or go for Nokia Care Centre.
    Sensonic wrote:
Taking the phone to the Nokia Care Center and replacing the mother (main) board is not (IMO) a reasonable cure for this problem.
The first step of bug fixing, is getting aware of the bug. Nokia Support Discussions are designed in such a crazy way, that this step might not have taken by this thread. I am just an end-user like you, but there are very different statements whether this board is monitored by internal support.
By the way, the next step is to reproduce this bug – for this, Nokia requires a faulty unit, normally. Therefore, I recommend to go for the Nokia Care Centre option – because waiting – until your warranty might be gone – might not be a good alternative.
Or stated differently: Sit and wait might end in catastrophe in this case.

To double-check, we have Nokia Care Centre.

  • Disappointing Lumia 1020 OIS night photos

Has anyone else had disappointing results with the Lumia 1020 OIS?  I have an 808 and whilst it does not have OIS, the sensor on it is massive so loads of light floods in even when the viewfinder looks pitch black, and holding it still enough produces wome nice results.  Trying similar tricks with the 1020 just results in reklatively blurry and dark photos.  The OIS apears to be doing something...it rattles when the cam is not on and spins/hums when it is.  I've also tested in with video and it appears to be smoother and hence doing what OIS should do (when compared to a Blackerry Q10 it was less shaky, which is what I would expect).  But night photos just don't seem to be up to snuff.
Am I expecting too much then?  Seems to me that low light with my 1020 just produces high noise, blurry photos, is there some way I can perform a diagnostic or compare it to soemone elses photos?

actually, seems i can attach directly. These were taken in low light, you can see that even the not-so-blurry photos are not exactly blur free

  • Lumia 1020 Won't Recognize Headphones

I have a Lumia 1020 and a Nokia Purity Pro headset/headphones. Ever since I paired my 1020 to my Purity Pro, the headphone jack has stopped working, and the only way to listen to music has become my Purity Pros. Which is fine, except my car doesn't have Bluetooth, so I rely on an aux cable for music.
Anytime any type of headphone device is plugged into the 1/8" jack on the top of the phone, there is the solid 'pop' in the speakers, bu then nothing happens.
The 1020 just plays sound out of the speakers as if nothing were plugged in.
This is the 3rd Nokia Lumia I've had issues with the headphone jack. I'm not sure if it's a software issue or a hardware issue, but two of my previous 920s have had headphone jack issues.
Thankfully those both occurred within the first 25 days, so I was able to get AT&T to swap it for free. However, my 1020 is now almost 3 months old, and AT&T wants a 199$ deductible to do anything about it.
Does Nokia offer any type of support for these issues? Searching the internet gives mixed messages of horror stories of people sending in their devices only to never see them again or have them immediately returned, or wonderful stories of Nokia sending a new device before they even receive the defective one.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi d_savov,
    Welcome to the forum!
Is this for a Lumia 1020 as well? Have you tried using your headset with other phones if possible? This will help verify if your headset is working fine. Have you also checked if there's something stuck in the phone's headset port that might cause the issue? Your headset is a Nokia WH-208, right?
BTW, are you getting the same audio quality with the music or calls when the sound is received via loudspeaker? Also, when you say 'the phone isn't recognizing your voice', does it happen when using both the headset and the phone's mic?
Try to verify if the phone's software is updated by going to Settings > Phone update. Try also to check if the system apps are up-to-date by scanning the QR codes shown at this link, especially the ones for Accessories and Audio: Nokia Windows Phone 8 App Updates. You may also reboot the phone by simultaneously pressing and holding the volume down & power keys until it vibrates and restarts.
    We'll wait for your feedback.

  • Msi 5870 1gb reference design rattling sound

    Hello everyone,
I just joined MSI forum to get some help.
I have MSI 5870 1GB reference design and I had this card about a year now.
Few days ago I started to receive rattling noise coming from my 5870.
When I play intensive graphic games, I get this rattling sound once in a while. I found out that I am getting a rattling noise when I start or stop intense graphic use.
I started MSI kombuster and I get little rattling noise at the beginning and I also get rattling sound when I stop. I keep repeating to use msi kombuster to start and stop to get rattling noise.
I hold the side of the card (not the fan) with my one finger and rattling sound was gone. Rattling will come back again, but whenever I touch the card, rattling sound will be gone.
I am just worried if my fan is dying or if this is something else. I don't want to touch the fan while running. Please advice.
    Thanks in advance.

Take a cardboard tube, like from a paper towel roll, and make sure the sound is coming from the vid card.  I know you said that if you touch the card the rattling stops, but let's make sure it really is coming from the card.  Next, with the power off, pull the video card and blow it out with compressed air.  Re-seat the card firmly and re-connect the power cables.  Turn on the machine.  Does it still rattle?
Thanks for you reply. Now I have to wait for rattling sounds to come back lol. I have rattling sounds 2 or 3 times a day, so I probably have to play some games and wait for those rattling sounds again. If I get a rattling sound again, I'll use paper towel rolll to make sure it's the card.
I don't have any problem with my card though. Performance is awesome and never having any problems playing games. Maybe I am just very sensitive.
I'll update you guys later tonight.

  • Lumia 1020 Freezes, Battery Heating Up, OS Crashes...

Hi there everyone, this is my first post here, I hope I can get some help from you guys regarding my problem with my lovely Lumia 1020.
10 days ago, I received my Lumia 1020 ( it was a gift from a friend from Norway), I live in Iraq. So warranty isn't provided here cause I went to Nokia Care in my country, they checked the IMEI and they told me that this phone wasn't imported by them, so no warranty is provided for it.
Once I powered up my phone, completed settings,  it checked for an update and asked me to download it. And sure I did download it at once!. Kept updating until it reached the latest Lumia Cyan Update. Checked and saw I have a WP 8.1 phone.
Took some photos, here and there, everything was going good. Plugged in the charger to charge my phone. Then an hour later I went to check the charge and I was surprised to see my lovely Lumia 1020 heating up like crazy!!! .. I'm talking about severe heating, not a normal one due to charging.
Plugged out the phone from the charger ( original Nokia charger provided with the original box ), and I tried to unlock it, but no way! it doesn't respond to anything at all, Glance screen was stuck at the time of an hour ago. Quickly opened my laptop and googled the issue and did a soft reset at once. Then put the mobile in front of the air conditioner until it cooled down. Time/Date was reset ( very annoying ) but everything was normal ever since until at some random time, the phone freezes. Sometimes it doesn't heat up, I wait for 5 minutes or so and the phone reboots by itself. But there are times that the phone is stuck for hours ( no heat though ) so I have to soft reset it manually. And there are times when the phone freezes and heats up like crazy and I soft reset it on purpose being afraid that something might happen to the phone.
Googled everywhere, tried everything: Replaced charger, Replaced SIM card, Tried Airplane mode, Factory Reset, Nokia Software Recovery, Disabling Background apps, Disabling/Enabling Location w/wo NFC, Deleting FB & Skype, Disabling Glance & Double Tap to wake, Downgrading to WP 8 ( both Amber & Cyan via Nokia Care Suit ), ... etc everything software related has been tried. And the phone still freezes randomly. Which leads me to say that it's definitely a hardware defect that is causing these issues as my friend has the exact phone, everything enabled, and not a single freeze.
I'm desperate here, if anyone of you could give me an advice, I would be thankful.
Thanks and sorry for the long post!

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles with it.
As you mentioned here, you've done everything that can be done to your phone software wise, and it still plays up.
And as you further mentioned, it's related to hardware failure.
As your device is not covered by warranty in Iraq, you will either have to pay for the repairs down there or send it back to your friend in Norway who can then send it in for warranty repair/replacement.

  • Nokia Lumia 1020 power consumption

    Hello,
On 5th of October 2013 I bought from Vodafone Romania a Nokia Lumia 1020. OS version: 8.0.10328.78. Firmware revision number: 3049.0000.1330.1001. Manufacter Name: RM-875_eu_hungary_298.
I'm syncing Microsoft Account daily (contacts only, no e-mail), one Outlook Exchange account every 15 minutes, one Google account every 30 minutes and one Yahoo! Mail account every hour.
I have also configured Twitter account, Facebook account and Nokia account. The Facebook application (the one developed by Microsoft) has notifications turned off. For Twitter I'm using Rowi application and this one also has notifications turned off. On home screen I have the Me tile which displays notifications when there are new items on Facebook and Twitter.
    The Facebook settings are:
    - Notifications: No notifications
    - Lock screen: Off
    - Location : Off
    - Enable shake to refresh: On
In Settings > Applications > background tasks > advanced I have:
    - AccuWeather
    - Battery Performance
    - extras+info
    - Facebook
    - HERE Drive+
    - Nokia Care.
I never leave applications running in background (the multitasking list is empty).
I'm on 3G. My data plan does not allow me to use 4G.
For the most part of the day I'm at work, in the office, and I'm not using my phone. It stays idle. Glance screen is configured on Peak so my phone's display is turned off most of the time.
I have WiFi turned off, NFC turned OFF, location turned off, XBOX syncronization turned off, music and videos syncronization turned off, find my phone turned off.
Today, I have received no phone calls, I have not dialed anybody, and my phone stayed on my desk for almost 9 hours. I did not take any pictures with my phone today.
And yet, for the most part of the day (from 09:00 AM to 07:00 PM), the Battery Performance application showed a steady discharge rate of 2% per hour.
Is this normal for a new Nokia Lumia 1020 in those given circumstances?
    Thank you.
    Cosmin Petrenciuc

Totally normal mate, you should get a wireless charger + shell and use your phone more and enjoy it between placing it on the charging plate on your desk!!

  • Lumia 1020 isn't recognized by Windows 8.1

I just installed Windows 8.1 and when I plug in my Lumia 1020, it isn't recognized.  In Device Manager it shows up under "Other Devices" as "Nokia Lumia 909 (RM-877)".  I understand that the 909 and the 1020 are the same so no mystery there.  When I right click and tell it to update the drivers, it says that there are no drivers available.
I read in another thread where someone was having a similar problem and powering off the phone and then reconnecting it via the USB cable seemed to cause it to be recognized.  I am not having any success doing that.  I have gone through the steps listed by Microsoft also without any luck.
I also have a laptop running Windows 7 and my phone is recognized by that computer without any trouble at all.  So, I don't *think* it is a hardware problem.
I went so far as to re-install my OS.  I patched it, updated the BIOS and didn't connect or install anything else (besides the patches) before connecting my 1020.  Once I hooked up my 1020, still nothing.  Can't update drivers from the internet or from the downloaded drivers.
    What is going on?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Look at other devices that are not loaded correctly.  Not the USB
If your operating system did not come with Windows Media Player, install the Media Feature Pack for your version of the operating system.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/download-windows-media-player
Use the USB cable that came with the phone.
Connect the phone to the PC.  Turn it all the way off, hold power button and slide the screen down. The phone will turn back on and it will be detected, drivers should load.
You should see it in windows explorer. It should install in 'portable devices' in the device manager.

  • Lumia 1020 is not seen by Windows 7 64-bit

    Hi,
When I connect my new Nokai Lumia 1020 to USB, my PC (which is Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate) is not able to install the correct driver.
When I connec the mobile, Windows installs driver for a device named as "RM-875|Nokia 909". It then says "
There is no driver selected for the device information set or element."
I have then updated the mobile's software to the recent version, but with no luck.
I searched Nokia site for a driver and found nothing.
How can I explore Lumia 1020 in Windows 7 64-bit? What can I do to troubleshoot this issue.

  • Lumia 1020 auto focus in video when used in apps.....

Hi. If I want to take a video clip up close using the Nokia Lumia 1020 on WhatsApp or Skype, the auto focus just will not fire. It stays zoomed out, and is only useful for taking clips really far away. This is incredibly frustrating given that I bought this phone for the camera.
Is this a bug in the phone? or is my phone broken?
Auto focus only works when using the actual camera app. Skype and WhatsApp seem to ignore the "auto focus" setting that I've turned on in the default camera app and the Nokia Camera app...
    Really disappointed.
    Jez

not sure as i haven't used those apps myslef, but for example, if you use Vine, there is a setting in there that allows you to lock the focus. it appears to me that auto-focus isn't automatically enabled / enabled at all in certain apps. you will need to contact the developers of the apps themselves for further feedback, as this is a user to user forum only for Nokia products and services.
