Lumia 1020 slow data speed.

I have an unlocked ATT Lumia 1020 that is currently on T-Mobile service. Recently I had the speed be horribly low on LTE, it was usually running at 3,000 Kbp/s but now I average around 30 Kbp/s. I went to T-mobile and they said the slow speed is not on their end but probably because of the phone. I looked up for solutions but I can only find solutions for users that are in the UK and didn't work for me.

Try going to Settings > mobile network > Highest connection speed. Make sure that you're not using a modified SIM card and it is properly inserted in the SIM card slot. If the issue persists, reboot your phone by pressing and holding the power and volume down keys simultaneously for 15 seconds. You may need to set the date and time after this operation. Also, check if all system apps are already updated. See this link. If the same thing happens, try updating your phone's software by going to Settings > phone update > check for updates. Let us know the outcome.

Slow data speed while in calls but not off calls.

I switched my 3GS for a 4 about 3 months ago on AT&T. I've notice recently that while I'm on a call the data speed is extremely slow compared to off call speed. I didn't notice this back on my 3GS.
I tested my phone as well as my wifes phone several times in different locations and in a different state recently.
Speed while not on a call is between 3.0-4.5meg down with .40-1.0 up.
Speed on a call is always about 0.5 down with 0.2 up.
Have others noticed this? Can others test and post their results. I don't think its AT&T since friends with android phone don't show this, but who knows.
I feel this may be a serious issue Apple may need to address if it is affecting others.
I use the speedtest.net speed test app with my phone sitting on the table.

Has nothing to do with my account. If it was account related the slow speed would be consistant not only during a call and back to normal after I got off. Secondly, my wife and I don't have the same account.
This is something that isnt happens by chance. I can recreate it over and over at will. Its not some, "oh it feels like slow speed", it is slow speed. As I've stated, those are the readings taken back to back, over and over. Two different phones, two different accounts.
I asked for other to test on their phones and post results. @startxxinsanity If you have the iphone 4 and don't have that issue please say so. If not stop committing on something you know nothing about.

Slow Data speeds on Sprint

Hello I am in Austin, TX and the data speeds on Sprint is very slow, I can barely download text based sites. Is anyone else having this problem? what can i do?
Is Sprint doing anything about this or are they one of those companies who takes your money but does not provide the needed services.

I thought they had made some progress toward correcting this now, but there have been complaints about data speeds on Sprint from the first day they got the iPhone. If resetting the network settings, as diesel suggests above, doesn't help, then I also recommend contacting Sprint.

Sprint slow data speed & poor battery life on iPhone 4S

I am very disappointed in the data service provided by Sprint 3G! I have had my new iPhone 4S since launch day. The data speeds are miserably slow, if any exist at all. I travel for work and have been in 5 different cities (poor data speeds in all of them), currently on Maui, Hawaii. It took me 3 attempts to text a picture and once it finally went through over 10 minutes to upload one picture! Mean while my friend who has a new iPhone 4S on AT&T, is sitting next to me, texting pictures non-stop. I left AT&T for Sprint, I now feel I have made a huge mistake.
While, I understand that the AT&T iPhone 4S is faster for data, this is ridiculous. My aunts tracphone is faster.
Sprint I will give you a chance to correct this issue since you are supposedly working on this issue with Apple. No fix by the time the iPhone 5 is released and I will be leaving, as realiable consistent service is more important to me than price.
But, the really sad thing is I had to use my AT&T iPad 2 to even post this to the sprint site, as I can not even get my sprint iPhone 4S to bring their site and my phone is showing 3 bars within a supposedly 3G coverage area.
The other issue is battery life! From day one, I have not been able to go a full day without charging my iPhone 4S. Took the phone to the Apple store & they exchanged the phone. (Thank you Apple for the awesome customer service) but the battery issue continues even with my second phone.
With poor data speed on sprint & poor data service on the phone itself, I am very unhappy!

Slow data speeds and AirTunes problems???

This is a bit weird.
Lately I've noticed that my wi-fi speeds feel very slow. Downloading files, software updates, etc., are very slow. When I plug in via an ethernet cable, everything is nice and fast.
But here is what is also happening - I have numerous Airport Expresses around my house that are only used for music (some have wireless turned off and are connected via a cable and some have wifi turned on, but only for receiving music - none act as a wifi access point). I only have one wifi access point, and that is my Airport Extreme. All of a sudden, I can't stream music, via iTunes, from a computer connected via wifi to a computer on the wired network. But, if the computer is on wifi and the Airport Express is also on wifi, streaming works fine. Vice-versa also doesn't work (i.e. if the computer is on the wired network it cannot stream iTunes to a wifi Airport Express but it can stream to wired Expresses).
Something is very weird, and I think it has to do with the Airport Express not functioning properly. But, I have all the latest firmware updates on it and I'm getting a green light in the utility.
Weird - I know.

It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference that has been introduced recently in the immediate area that is preventing your AirPorts from providing a good clean signal.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like MacStumbler or iStumbler to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible.

NYC/NJ Slow EDGE Speeds?

YES. In Manhattan..I couldn't believe it...it took me almost 10 minutes to load Yahoo! last night...I almost wish I had the 3G (but I'm sure I wouldn't have reception then)
Once I put in "Airplane Mode" for about 20 secs then back, big improvement with the Edge speed but the loading lag has happened a lot this week.

How to increase data speeds

I am experiencing slow data speeds. The cellular provider is telling me that clearing my Safari history and cache will improve data speeds. Is this accurate? How does that work that way? If not, what needs to happen to improve data speeds. I don't want to lose the pages that I have open, currently. It's already aggravating enough that they are advertising 4g coverage (1 GBps) that doesn't exist, yet. Providers may not even be providing 3.5g, yet. They definitely don't have the ability to provide 4g. I may not even b getting 3G speeds.

This is all at your provider's end unless your device is malfunctioning (take it in for service.) Your data speed is whatever you get when connected per the specs provided by your provider.
If your caches or Safari history file is too large this will impact on the use of the device's volatile RAM causing your device to function slower when loading pages from the Internet.

Lumia 1020 - No Speed Dial

Having just moved from Android SGS4 I am shocked to find that the Lumia 1020 (possibly the most expensive mobile phone on the market) does not have speed dial under the phone pad keys. Forget about the inconvenient pinning of a contact to the home window which requires nine tiles to replicate the keypad version found on almost every other phone in existence! If the message bank number can be stored under key 1 then there is no reason why up to nine other numbers could not be stored under the other keys. IMO this is a serious failure with this phone especially for a business user. I hope that a software update might fix this issue.

Spotify on Lumia 1020 (Denim) extremely slow and buggy

Hi, Does anyone have the same problem and got rid of it? I just got the Lumia 1020 with the Denim Update (previously Samsung Galaxy S4) and it is so slowly - it needs 20-30 seconds to open the app. Moreover, changing between Playlists needs more time or even does not work. Hi heissahussa, I have Lumia 735 with latest updates to Denim. I have been using Spotify for year now at Lumia. In the beginning it was OK. But for many months now it has been painstakingly slow. When opening, there always loading indicator going for ages. This issue may have everything to do with Denim update. I frustrated so much that I did uninstall the app.Then decided to give it ago, and installed it again. Did not help. Almost every time some operation goes stuck loading...loading.... Lumia's MixRadio works better, that's the only way for me to listen to something (and sync offline). If I don't want to wait forever, I mean. There is problem with bluetooth, too. When listening offline tracks over bluetooth with car stereo, sound is stuttering. With Samsung Android 4 it worked perfectly. I spent 2 months in china with my old iphone 3gs. Both China Unicomm and China Mobile were accessible through my US phone. (for you other users, yes my phone bill was sky high, but it's a small price to pay when you get instant access to your wife while you are gone... and to be able to use the google translate app). I had a GSM phone (obviously) and had the ability to choose what carrier I wanted my phone to connect to (the same thing was available when I was in italy as well).

general-> network> then there was a new field (that does not normally show up when in the US) that listed the available networks to connect to. my phone always attempted china unicomm first, and switched to china mobile only when unicomm was unavailible.
but if wjosten is correct (and i imagine he is), cdma phones may not be able to choose what network to connect to.

SuperDrive slow Data Transfer Speeds

I have several home movies DVDs I would like to loadback onto my mid-2011 27" iMac but it is taking for ever to complete the transfer. One DVD disk takes 6 hours because the transfer speed is crawling. I read up onthis and info says my HL-DT-STDVDRW GA32N (FirmwareVersion KE06) is made by HLDS and they have implemented riplock which slows the data speed way down to preserve SuperDrive life expectancy anddecrease noise level. How can I disable this riplock to restore the data speed. I bought this fast/expensive machine and the SuperDrive of all things is slowing medown. Completely unacceptable.

I was having a problem ripping store bought CD's to ITunes and opened a case with Apple for suspected hardware issue. Turns out the problem was Norton AntiVirus by Symantec which was blocking my external drives. Even though the CD is internal it was killing it. Once I shut off Norton everthing started working.
The way I came to figure out it was a Software and not hardware issue was that the Superdrive worked perfectly under Windows 7 inside of VMWare Fusiion.
If you have any sort of AntiVirus, try shutting and down and using the Superdrive.

Hi, ckamfung. Welcome to Microsoft Mobile Community! When did you start encountering this? Does your phone's date+time reset after it reboots? Try disabling the apps running in the background. Go to Battery Saver > select an app > turn off the "allow app to run in the background" option. And then, monitor the phone's behavior. You may also consider checking if there's an update available for your phone: Settings > phone update > check for updates.
For the date+time issue, it will change to the default values if you reset the phone by pressing down the power button for around 10 seconds. Data speed slower using both wifi & 3G on Iphone 4 Ios 4.0.1

The data speed seems to be slower on the Iphone 4, say for example I type nytimes.com, it loads for 2 sec then I have to hit refresh for it to load fully.
I did a test by opening a video on youtube both on Iphone 3G and Iphone 4 using wifi and 3g. The 3g phone seems to open and load the video faster.
Any idea?

If I understand well, I have to :
- restore my iPhone as a new iPhone and so fix the Push feature
- after that, go to iTunes to restore iPhone Backup with the current backup (without push feature)
I'm not definitively sure, but I think I try that last week and that the iPhone Backup has restored everything, even the issue with the push feature...
Have I well understood ? Are you sure ?

After updating to 5.1 data speed gets really slow

I did update to 5.1 this morning and the data speed for internet and app gets really slow.
I can not use internet and apps like usual at all.
I called att customer service twice and they just said there is no problem.
I reset my phone several times already and nothing get better.
Now i have 4G network sign next to the signal bar and is that because of my phone (4gs) doesn't work for 4g network?
What should i do?

try restarting your iphone. then if still slow, try reset network settings. <-- this should fix your problem.
if still not clear your cookies and cache.

Slow Wifi speed when transfering data from USB drive?
