Lumia 1020 sms tones

I succeeded to add new ringtones to my Lumia 1020, but how to add new sms or e-mail tones?
Solved!

GDR3 is the windows Phone 8 latest update version, Nokia Black is the latest Nokia firmware, you need to update your phone to get that functionality. Make sure your battery is charged and that you have a stable wifi connection. Go to settings > phone update > check for updates

  • Lumia 1020 SMS Issue.

Been having issues for a few months now and haven't been able to find any solutions online. I'm having an issue where I can not send messages to certain numbers and I am just receiving the "Can't send" message as if I had no signal. What's even more confusing is that I have no issue receiving messages from these numbers, I am just incapable of replying. Currently this is only affecting a few contacts, but obviously this is an extremely annoying issue. If you have any advice or tips to solve this issue I would greatly appreciate it. Oh and I've just carried out all possible updates and still the problem persists.
-Thanks for taking the time to read this, MuirC

    Hi MuirC,
We appreciate your effort in posting your concern on the forum. By the way, are you still experiencing the SMS issue? If yes, have you tried using another SIM card if it makes any difference? Make sure to use the  original Micro SIM  and not the modified one. You may also try checking this Nokia Lumia 1020 - Troubleshooter for a possible resolution. Any update is very much appreciated.

  • Is it possible to sync Lumia 1020 with Windows Con...

I was considering a Lumia 1020 (or perhaps an upcoming version with same camera capability), but something seems to be wrong there.
For now I am still using a Nokia N8 together with Nokia Suite. I can sync my Windows Contacts *including the contact image for each contact* (where available). Also, when I am on my desk, I send and read received SMS messages exclussively on PC, phone connected via bluetooth. No cable, no cloud involved, I even don't have to touch or look at phone itself.
Some time ago, during one of the Nokia Suite upgrades, I remember it said something like „added compatibility with Lumia phones”. However, these days I read that Lumia is only compatible with Zune, which AFAIK is merely a multimedia sync platform.
I don't want to upload my contacts in cloud (any cloud, regardless the owner).
I don't want to install Outlook. I seem to remember that the Outlook version I already have cannot use the xml Windows Contacts, but only the older Address book or something. As for contact pictures, no way.
So, question: assuming I own a Lumia 1020, can I use Nokia Suite the same I was used to ?
If not, Zune is able to handle the Windows Contacts in same way ?
What about sending and reading received SMS messages using the PC ?

That I begin to understand. I don't care much about what brand, but for my work I do care about a very good phone camera with xenon flash and a good associated PC application where I can copy and paste strings to and from SMS messages (among other things). So it seems I have to look elsewhere.
Too bad. Nokia 808 was a perfect thing for this purpose, but unfortunately it was never marketed in my geographical location. Now things only gets worse.
        paulheu wrote:
actually IMO no modern day Smartphone OS would be really.
Wrong. I tested direct contacts sync between a Samsung Galaxy tablet with my PC using their dedicated application, Kies. The contacts imported well into the tablet, *including contact pictures*, which is what I am looking for. I didn't checked the messaging since the tablet was not a phone, but I suspect that it also works. Unfortunately the actual photos taken with Samsung phone cameras that are equipped also with xenon flash are of lower quality than those taken with Nokia 808 or Lumia 1020.
        paulheu wrote:
If you feel this way you should actually not be on the internet anyway.
No really. I'm on internet since 1995 when only meteorological clouds were in existence and I didin't encounter any problem browsing the internet then because of that. In 2004 the software that accompanied my Motorola E398 was able to do both address book sync and handle SMS messages just pure and simple, via cable or BT. Then my Nokia N73 and later Nokia N8 were able to do same things through Ovi/Nokia Suite, still directly, including contact pictures sync if on Windows Vista or later.
Today (2015 already) I've been told that things have evolved, so I can no longer exchange some trivial information between two devices located near to each other, but instead I have to use thousands of miles distances, to have an account somewhere, to be logged in, etc., only to transfer something between myself and myself, actually the same something as yesterday.
Frankly I'm glad to hear that this internet is not for me.
Without wanting this specifically (on the contrary), it appears that I am forced to consider also this company not (or no longer) compatible with me.

  • Is the iPhone 5 better than the Samsung Galaxy S4/Lumia 1020?

Is the iPhone 5 better than the Samsung Galaxy S4/Lumia 1020?

Like almost everything in this world is a matter of choice, but, if it is to logically make a choice here are a few criteria you should consider before picking up a smartphone:
    Do you really need it? - if not, the money will stay better in your account;
Set up the budget and consider the fact that smartphones get upgrades faster than computers and laptops, will you be able to upgrade?
Which operating system are you familiar with?
What are your needs and expectations from the smartphone?
    What type of person you are (email/chat/SMS/Social Media-man aka. communications, multimedia, productivity, gamer, etc.) this will help you chose the appropriate hardware and check out what are your options regarding the existing applications for your needs;
    Are you always on the run or work in an office? - this will help you decide from the battery life point of view;
If you own a tablet you might just need a simple smartphone.
Samsung does not really innovate in terms of functionality and usability, they only copy what others do and make it their own way. Android is not a mature operating system, yet. I like some of its features, of course, but I can rely on it when it comes to productivity as I'm a person who sends 100's of emails per day and need to easily manage the messages.
You can have the best hardware in the world but that's useless if you operating system is bad at managing those resources, you will not be able to exploit the device to the fullest and you might cry over the money you've spent :-) Nevertheless Samsung has a large market share, makes good phones, but not quite smart, they are rather... intelligent, a smartphone is smart from the day you buy it, you don't have to put it in training mode :-)
As about Lumia, I don't have much to say, it's what iPhone had at the iPhone 4 version minus the 40MP camera and the operating system. If I want a good camera then I buy a camera, a Canon or Nikon :-) Yes, the Krait CPU, so what? That CPU is managed by a Wi*dows OS and that should say everything. I'm not against Micr*soft, they had/have their part in technology progress, but I'm more into stable operating systems, I'd chose Android over Wi*dows, yet Nokia were always great at hardware and batery life. Bad choice for Nokia, look at their sales and you will understand.
That's just my two cents, but iPhone is the choice of millions when they chose their first smartphone: is user friendly, solid, great hardware specs, lovely screen, wonderful support, high-level security, multimedia at its best, a design that catches the eye, looks and feels great in your hand, it's light, you have millions of verified apps in the store and a nice community to tell you all these :-)

  • Lumia 1020 Freezes, Battery Heating Up, OS Crashes...

Hi there everyone, this is my first post here, I hope I can get some help from you guys regarding my problem with my lovely Lumia 1020.
10 days ago, I received my Lumia 1020 ( it was a gift from a friend from Norway), I live in Iraq. So warranty isn't provided here cause I went to Nokia Care in my country, they checked the IMEI and they told me that this phone wasn't imported by them, so no warranty is provided for it.
Once I powered up my phone, completed settings,  it checked for an update and asked me to download it. And sure I did download it at once!. Kept updating until it reached the latest Lumia Cyan Update. Checked and saw I have a WP 8.1 phone.
Took some photos, here and there, everything was going good. Plugged in the charger to charge my phone. Then an hour later I went to check the charge and I was surprised to see my lovely Lumia 1020 heating up like crazy!!! .. I'm talking about severe heating, not a normal one due to charging.
Plugged out the phone from the charger ( original Nokia charger provided with the original box ), and I tried to unlock it, but no way! it doesn't respond to anything at all, Glance screen was stuck at the time of an hour ago. Quickly opened my laptop and googled the issue and did a soft reset at once. Then put the mobile in front of the air conditioner until it cooled down. Time/Date was reset ( very annoying ) but everything was normal ever since until at some random time, the phone freezes. Sometimes it doesn't heat up, I wait for 5 minutes or so and the phone reboots by itself. But there are times that the phone is stuck for hours ( no heat though ) so I have to soft reset it manually. And there are times when the phone freezes and heats up like crazy and I soft reset it on purpose being afraid that something might happen to the phone.
Googled everywhere, tried everything: Replaced charger, Replaced SIM card, Tried Airplane mode, Factory Reset, Nokia Software Recovery, Disabling Background apps, Disabling/Enabling Location w/wo NFC, Deleting FB & Skype, Disabling Glance & Double Tap to wake, Downgrading to WP 8 ( both Amber & Cyan via Nokia Care Suit ), ... etc everything software related has been tried. And the phone still freezes randomly. Which leads me to say that it's definitely a hardware defect that is causing these issues as my friend has the exact phone, everything enabled, and not a single freeze.
I'm desperate here, if anyone of you could give me an advice, I would be thankful.
Thanks and sorry for the long post!

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles with it.
As you mentioned here, you've done everything that can be done to your phone software wise, and it still plays up.
And as you further mentioned, it's related to hardware failure.
As your device is not covered by warranty in Iraq, you will either have to pay for the repairs down there or send it back to your friend in Norway who can then send it in for warranty repair/replacement.

  • Nokia Lumia 1020 power consumption

    Hello,
On 5th of October 2013 I bought from Vodafone Romania a Nokia Lumia 1020. OS version: 8.0.10328.78. Firmware revision number: 3049.0000.1330.1001. Manufacter Name: RM-875_eu_hungary_298.
I'm syncing Microsoft Account daily (contacts only, no e-mail), one Outlook Exchange account every 15 minutes, one Google account every 30 minutes and one Yahoo! Mail account every hour.
I have also configured Twitter account, Facebook account and Nokia account. The Facebook application (the one developed by Microsoft) has notifications turned off. For Twitter I'm using Rowi application and this one also has notifications turned off. On home screen I have the Me tile which displays notifications when there are new items on Facebook and Twitter.
    The Facebook settings are:
    - Notifications: No notifications
    - Lock screen: Off
    - Location : Off
    - Enable shake to refresh: On
In Settings > Applications > background tasks > advanced I have:
    - AccuWeather
    - Battery Performance
    - extras+info
    - Facebook
    - HERE Drive+
    - Nokia Care.
I never leave applications running in background (the multitasking list is empty).
I'm on 3G. My data plan does not allow me to use 4G.
For the most part of the day I'm at work, in the office, and I'm not using my phone. It stays idle. Glance screen is configured on Peak so my phone's display is turned off most of the time.
I have WiFi turned off, NFC turned OFF, location turned off, XBOX syncronization turned off, music and videos syncronization turned off, find my phone turned off.
Today, I have received no phone calls, I have not dialed anybody, and my phone stayed on my desk for almost 9 hours. I did not take any pictures with my phone today.
And yet, for the most part of the day (from 09:00 AM to 07:00 PM), the Battery Performance application showed a steady discharge rate of 2% per hour.
Is this normal for a new Nokia Lumia 1020 in those given circumstances?
    Thank you.
    Cosmin Petrenciuc

Totally normal mate, you should get a wireless charger + shell and use your phone more and enjoy it between placing it on the charging plate on your desk!!

  • Lumia 1020 isn't recognized by Windows 8.1

I just installed Windows 8.1 and when I plug in my Lumia 1020, it isn't recognized.  In Device Manager it shows up under "Other Devices" as "Nokia Lumia 909 (RM-877)".  I understand that the 909 and the 1020 are the same so no mystery there.  When I right click and tell it to update the drivers, it says that there are no drivers available.
I read in another thread where someone was having a similar problem and powering off the phone and then reconnecting it via the USB cable seemed to cause it to be recognized.  I am not having any success doing that.  I have gone through the steps listed by Microsoft also without any luck.
I also have a laptop running Windows 7 and my phone is recognized by that computer without any trouble at all.  So, I don't *think* it is a hardware problem.
I went so far as to re-install my OS.  I patched it, updated the BIOS and didn't connect or install anything else (besides the patches) before connecting my 1020.  Once I hooked up my 1020, still nothing.  Can't update drivers from the internet or from the downloaded drivers.
    What is going on?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Look at other devices that are not loaded correctly.  Not the USB
If your operating system did not come with Windows Media Player, install the Media Feature Pack for your version of the operating system.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/download-windows-media-player
Use the USB cable that came with the phone.
Connect the phone to the PC.  Turn it all the way off, hold power button and slide the screen down. The phone will turn back on and it will be detected, drivers should load.
You should see it in windows explorer. It should install in 'portable devices' in the device manager.

  • Lumia 1020 is not seen by Windows 7 64-bit

    Hi,
When I connect my new Nokai Lumia 1020 to USB, my PC (which is Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate) is not able to install the correct driver.
When I connec the mobile, Windows installs driver for a device named as "RM-875|Nokia 909". It then says "
There is no driver selected for the device information set or element."
I have then updated the mobile's software to the recent version, but with no luck.
I searched Nokia site for a driver and found nothing.
How can I explore Lumia 1020 in Windows 7 64-bit? What can I do to troubleshoot this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Lumia 1020 auto focus in video when used in apps.....

Hi. If I want to take a video clip up close using the Nokia Lumia 1020 on WhatsApp or Skype, the auto focus just will not fire. It stays zoomed out, and is only useful for taking clips really far away. This is incredibly frustrating given that I bought this phone for the camera.
Is this a bug in the phone? or is my phone broken?
Auto focus only works when using the actual camera app. Skype and WhatsApp seem to ignore the "auto focus" setting that I've turned on in the default camera app and the Nokia Camera app...
    Really disappointed.
    Jez

not sure as i haven't used those apps myslef, but for example, if you use Vine, there is a setting in there that allows you to lock the focus. it appears to me that auto-focus isn't automatically enabled / enabled at all in certain apps. you will need to contact the developers of the apps themselves for further feedback, as this is a user to user forum only for Nokia products and services.

I bought this my Nokia Lumia 1020 with so much excitement, and it arrived on Saturday...got to it on Sunday night and dived in to the camera...amazing! I said... The app wouldn't open, tot it was d app with the problem...den turned on my flashlight app, but also greeted the d strange sound...also the light won't come on... I am really disappointed and getting forstrated by Nokia...
    what can I do?

    Hello, victovic2000.
Thank you for posting and welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions.
Sorry for the inconvenience it is causing you. By the way, how was the phone now? Is it still doing the same thing? Is it happening to the default camera only or same with the other camera app? Did something happen to your phone prior to the issue? Is your phone's software up-to-date?
You may check if there's an available software update for your phone by going to Settings > Phone updates. Note that a stable internet connection is needed. We encourage you to use Wi-Fi instead. You may also consider doing a 'full reset' by going to Settings > About > Reset your phone. Make sure to backup your files to avoid data loss. Here's how: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/how-to/wp8/basics/back-up-my-stuff.

  • Nokia Lumia 1020 with three hot pixels on the CCD....

Okay, i have a two weeks old brand new Lumia 1020 and noticed that whenever i took a photo or record a video, i get an L-shape of three hot/bright pixels somewhere in the middle of the photos or videos themselves, which could mean these hot pixels are burned on the camera's CCD directly. I can also see them live on the Lumia's screen, though if i zoom in on the live view passed a certain level towards the maximum zoom, they vanish. But, on most zoom levels and of course when no zoom is used, i can see them clearly, unfortunately...
The attached image shows these three L-positioned bright pixels...
Also, check the video below for better understanding; i'm just shooting the black plastic frames in-between my two monitors, to get a dark area for easily spotting the three bright pixels. When i zoom in and out, you can see that passed a certain zoom point, they dissapear and reappear. Also, when i move the camera around, they follow along the movement. The video is a cropped-down version of the 1:1 1920x1080 original version, just to get a smaller file size: https://www.dropbox.com/s/g9zfcy3vivb1nku/HotPixels.mov
    So, i'm wondering...
Is this serious hardware mulfanction problem valid for a phone replacement, or this is something that warranty may not cover ?!
    Thanks...
    Greg

It's hardly deep hacking. The repair facility opens the phone, takes out the camera module and puts a new one in.
Your warranty does not entitle you to a full replacement unless the phone is not repairable (in genral) and this should be a painless and easy fix.
While in some countries you would be entitled to a new phone if a fault is detected shortly after buying the device you said you bought it a week ago which would generally be too much time gone by for that so I anm pretty sure it's a repair.

  • Lumia 1020; app update error 80073cf6 after cyan ...

I updated my Lumia 1020 to the Nokia Cyan firmware today. Most of the app updates went fine but now some updates from the store are stuck with the error code 80073cf6.
I tried restarting the phone but that does not help. Any ideas?

The "error code 80073cf6" in Windows 8 on PC's suggest trouble in the store cache on the device, and there are procedures to reset and clear this on a PC - but this is only possible on Windows Phone by performing a factory reset.
I hesitate to advice a factory reset of the phone since it is a lot of work, and may not solve the problem! Also, since this is trouble between the Store and the phone, it may be solved in an update of the phone or the store later.
I would sit tight for a while (days or weeks ...) unless the apps are important here and now, and keep an eye on new updates to the phone, and retry the download once in a while, but it's your decision whether to try a factory reset.
Microsoft have information of devices failing to download apps from the store, and if your specific trouble affect enough people, changes are likely to be made (days or weeks ...)
