Lumia 1320 screen flickers.

I have a Lumia 1320 and I've noticed a slight flicker on the screen. The flicker occurs only when the screen's brightness is low, no matter what I'm doing on the phone. It flickers even on glance screen. After some research online, I found that other people have this problem aswell. Is this software or hardware related? Is my device faulty?
I found a video demonstrating the same issue but on another device. The flicker is the exact same on my L 1320.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slwkFhpiYbs
You can see the flicker clearly at 0:15 sec. It is more noticeable off camera.
After some research online, I found that its not an issue only on 1320 but on other devices aswell.  Cmon Nokia, this phone has been on market for over a year. Issues like this should be fixed already. What should I do? Should I go on Nokia Care Center and ask for a new device? Screen replacement?

http://forums.wpcentral.com/nokia-lumia-625/247981-screen-flickering-auto-brightness.html

The thing is though that from what I've read online other people have this issue aswell. Which means that I don't have a faulty device. Which leads to the conclusion that it's either software related or a general hardware issue of all (or at least a batch) of L1320. Either way, this device has been on the market for over a year. Shouldn't this issue have already been addressed?
I've read on another forum that a fellow owner of a L1320 with the same issue changed his screen twice on Nokia Care Center, and the device still had the issue.
PS: Nokia Support replied to me this morning on the e-mail that I've sent them regarding this issue. You won't believe what they told me in response: "Set the display brightness to high to stop having this issue". Unbelievable.

Lumia 1320 has the same problem, lots of people in vietnam got it. My 1320 is also bad, it's really pathetic to browse, navigate on IE or app.... since i cannot touch properly with the screen especially with a small finger like pointed finger.
I own Samsung focus, Lumia 1020 and 720 and have no problem at all with these phones.
Please take a look at the problem.

First step is to ask on here, next is to speak to Nokia asap and keep asking.
Problem is they do not want to admit to any fault...no company does due to sales, so they sell stuff and fix after we buy it...or maybe not, so best thing to do is speak to them/complain as its your right, this will speed up any fix on way.
I would rather they said "yes we know of a few issues which we are working on and will fix asap" that informs me, that buys them time and helps people, what does not help is the whole "what issue, odd you are the first person to mention this issue, I will pass it on to our tech dept" that been a lie, that makes me want to go right back to android.
Always keep your customers in the loop....or see them turn away.

    Hi, Saymukh.
We completely understand your situation. This issue is still occuring on your phone, is that correct? The latest software released for a Lumia 1320 in India is Lumia Cyan. Can you confirm that the said software has been installed on your phone? Go to Settings> extras+info to check. For your system apps, go to Store> ...> downloads and see if there's pending updates.
If your have confirmed that your phone's software and system apps are up-to-date, try using the Nokia Software Recovery Tool and see if it will make a difference. See: http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/mobile/support/product/lumia1320/faq/?action=singleTopic&topic=FA1429.... Make sure that you back up your personal files to avoid data loss.
After this workaround, monitor your phone's behavior. We are hoping for a positive outcome. ;-)

  • Lumia 720 Screen Flickering/Jumping

About a month ago, my lumia 720 was suddenly started flickering. I tried all the possible ways to fix it including
    1. Soft Reset
    2. Hard Reset
    3. Make touch sensitivity to normal.
    4. Auto adjust brightness off. etc
None of them worked at all. Then Finally after 3 days of suffering, I got an idea. I removed the screen protector and then I realized the problem got solved. I was very happy.
But after a Month now the problem came back. Its now even more serious. I tried all the steps previously did and all failed.
Isn't there any possible solution except going to Nokia Care? Because the problem does not occur all time.. so even if i go to nokia care, i may not be abble to show them the problem.. Plz Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi, PelicanPils.
The Nokia Software Recovery Tool is only compatible with Windows 7 OS or newer. Are you able to use it?
Your phone has one year manufacturer's limited warranty. After 12 months, you will be charged for any repairs from any Nokia Care Point. It is your discretion if you will continue with the repair process or not. To know more about the Nokia Manufacturer's Limited Warranty, see this: http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/guides/WC_B9229743_EN_1.pdf.
If possible, you can also visit a different Nokia Care Point for a second opinion. To locate one: http://www.nokia.com/in-en/store-locator/.

  • Lumia 1320 Screen

    Hi,
I have bought new Nokia Lunia 1320 just 3 months back. It is working fine. All of a sudden today, screen has turned unresponsive/ dead and does not recognise any of my commands - via touch or pressing side buttons.
I can hear the call ringing, but cannot answer/ call back. I am unable to switch off & restart the mobile as well.
    Any sugsestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    regards,
    ilesh

Hi, Paras625. I believe you're using the same phone's model as Ilesh. If yes, do you get a similar behaviour? Does it manage to respond when you're trying to charge it? This is to test if it has something to do with the battery. Can you remember if you've downloaded an app before that happened? You may proceed to step 3 if rebooting didn't help. Check it here: My phone does not work or respond as expected. The given link is intended for the US, but still applicable regardless of your location.

  • Lumia 2520 Screen Flickers

I'm experiencing a screen flicker with my Lumia 2520. It only happens when I try to play certain games. I've tried turning off the auto brghtness, but it still does it. Previously, if I closed the app and went back in it would fix it. Now it doesn't. Very annoying. Any suggestions on what to try?

    Hi TheGimper,
    Welcome to the forum!
You mentioned that the issue only happens when playing certain games. Are these games downloaded from the Store? If yes, have you tried removing and re-installing them? This step will help us determine if the issue is caused by these games.
Here are some other troubleshooting steps that you may try:
    1. Restart your tablet. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen. Select Settings, hit Power, and then tap Restart.
    2. Refresh your Windows system. Refreshing your Windows system will reinstall Windows without removing your personal files, settings, the applications that came with your tablet and applications that you have installed from Windows Store.
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen and tap Setting. Select Change PC Settings > Update and recovery.
Under Refresh your PC without affecting your files, select Get started and follow the instructions on the screen.
    3. Check if the tablet's SW is updated. See this link for more information: Nokia Lumia 2520 - Update your tablet software.
Let us know how it will go.

My lumia 1320 display has broken,,but the phone is still 100 percentage functional ,,,but there seems to be a lot of cracks on the display...so...what should i do???
should i replace display or digitizer or front glass screen lense cover...please help

Hi, as this is the official discussion forum, we cannot discuss warranty voiding actions such as self repair.
What I would suggest anyway, is that you bring it to a Nokia care point to have it repaired. It will cost you, but you get it professionally done.
    Good luck!

  • Lumia 1320 Crash problem

Yesterday, I got a brand-new Lumia 1320 that came with cellular service plan from a telecom provider in my country.
It was working fine until this morning, I was charging it via USB connection to my Windows 7 PC when it suddenly "crashed", showing random vertical colorful lines on the screen that changes from time to time. The back, start, and search panels stopped working. I could turn off the screen and it would show the normal turned off screen, but when I try to unlock it, I can't.
I wasn't able to take a picture of it because I panicked and restarted my device right away.

    Hi
Even I suffered the same problem. I was out and when I checked my phone it was switched off. I tried to switch on by pressing the power key but it dint start. After a while it started and colorful vertical lines came up. After that I pressed power key many times and finally the phone started but many settings were changed. I am so panicky

  • I am suffering by Lumia 1320

17-May-14, I purchased a Lumia 1320; after a couple of days I noticed that I am having trouble whiling receiving calls. I need to press the power button twice to swipe the screen to get the text "Answer" as active. In this scenario I took the handset to Nokia Care on 7-June-14. Day-before-yesterday was 23-Jun-14 when 16 days passed, but I did not get proper solution, yesterday the nokia care representative was telling me that I have to use the phone without flip cover or make a hole in flip cover on the part which covers the sensor. I saw a colleage of mine who is using lumia 1320 with flip cover and without making any hole. What do you think, isn't it a faulty handset? Is it a good customer service?
What should I do, please suggest me.

Thank you very much for your reply. I have checked and see my feedback.
Make or receive a call with the phone. -OK
Once the phone is in a call, place your hand 1cm above the screen and the display will switch off. - Display does not switch off when I put my hand 1 cm above. No change
Remove your hand and the display will switch back on. - No change
Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3 three times to verify the proximity sensor function.
Please tell me what I can do now?

how is battery performance and how is the performance then lumia 1320

    Hi navendukumar100,
Welcome to the Microsoft Mobile Community. Regarding the touch screen technology, the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL has a capacitive multipoint touch screen. You can control the screen by touching it with one or more fingers. This type of a touchscreen relies on the conductive properties of the human body and can sense even the slightest touch. While the Lumia 1320 has a super sensitive touch screen. It can detect touch even if you are wearing gloves.
Regarding the battery performance, the Lumia 1320 is much better. The battery capacity of this phone is 3400 mAh compared to the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL that has a battery capacity of 3000 mAh.

  • 10.6.5 and screen flickering on MacBook Pro Mid 2010

Ever since i got my 15" laptop (about 2 months ago) i would get screen flickering on external monitor once in a while (once or twice an hour). This did not bother me that much and i just accepted it. Flickering issues always happened only on external monitor. I keep my laptop closed, so internal display is off.
10.6.5 upgrade escalated this issue from one or two an hour to one flicker every few seconds. This is annoying. Very annoying.
I tried to delete all caches (user, library, system), reset PRAM, re-applied 10.6.5 combo update, repair permissions and delete windowserver preferences (user and library). Nothing helped. Unchecking "Automatic graphics switching" makes no difference.
The only thing that made a difference was to open the lid. Once i have both (external and internal) working, flickering stops.
Any ideas on other troubleshooting things to try?

I have quiet similar problem as described but it is on my macbooks screen. It blinks while I am working and sometimes blinks instead of dimming the display. It also flickers at 40% to 50% brightness while going dim, which camera won't capture.
I am sending you links to the two videos I was able to make, most of the time it won't blink when I video it.

Lucky to have some proof. But Apple guys still denying it to be a problem at this stage, I have got its display changed twice and logic board replaced. But the problem persists.
Help! me to understand and explain the issue.

  • MacBook Pro screen flickers and freezes after Snow Leopard/Safari 5 updates

    Hi guys,
I have a silver 120GB 15-inch MacBook Pro from Summer 2007 with 3GB RAM and 25+GB free space which has recently begun to freeze irrecoverably. The first appearance of these symptoms seems to coincide with my installing the Snow Leopard 10.6.6 update via Software Update.
I'm not particularly well versed in computer technology, but will try to describe my problem as detailedly as possible.
    What happens is this:
    1. I start the computer as per usual, with only a couple of startup items. Everything's fine.
    2. I start working. Use a lot of Safari 5 for browsing websites, often with some kind of Flash or "Flash-type" content such as banner ads, videos, even full Flash designs. I may also have programs such as QuickTime, VLC or an image editor open, if not necessarily "actively" doing anything. Everything's still fine - I'm able to both browse websites and watch videos as usual.
    3. After a while of active working - say, 1-3 hours - I notice browsing websites gets a little choppy. Display features such as the file list view in Finder may or may not appear properly. The rotating wait cursor may or may not appear from time to time.
    4. Immediately after symptom no. 3, the next time I start to watch a video, either via Safari 5 (say for example something on DailyMotion.com) or a file via QuickTime, something goes wrong.
Following no. 4, one of three things invariably happen:
5a) The video freezes and the entire screen flickers from black to the screen view very quickly two or three times, after which the computer or screen appears to freeze. The cursor still moves, but nothing reacts to it - open windows become completely unresponsive, nor does the top or any other menu react in any way to clicking. The "menu row" of application items, which normally appears when I move the cursor to the very bottom of the screen, doesn't appear. Restarting "blindly" by pressing the Off-button once and pressing R doesn't work. I'm forced to do a hard reboot, after which the computer is once again fine until the next two hours of active working. This usually happens ONLY when I try to watch a video in Full Screen-mode.
5b) I notice the video freezing only just in time, and am able to pause it and "esc" out of Full Screen-mode, and the computer remains operational. However, as soon as I again try to play video in Full Screen-mode, everything described in 5a. happens.
5c) The video stops playing, and the screen reverts momentarily to pale blue before switching to the login screen. I login again with my details, and everything appears to be fine again until the next two hours of active working. The computer "starts up" a lot faster than with a hard reboot. This usually happens ONLY when I've tried to watch a video in its original size, i.e. when not in Full Screen-mode.
This happens 1-4 times a day, and it appears to depend directly on how much work I've been doing on the computer. The less I use it in the course of a day, the longer it takes until the next time it freezes.
So, in a way, I'm able to replicate this problem. 95% of the time the screen has frozen while watching or starting to watch (usually already when starting to watch) video footage, but it has also frozen a couple of times just switching between e.g. Safari 5 and an image editor or browsing a website with a Flash banner ad or embedded video content (which however hasn't necessarily been playing); today, the screen froze when I tried to open a website made entirely with Flash.
Although it could be just a coincidence, I believe this issue first appeared when I updated Snow Leopard to 10.6.6 via Software Update alongside some other pending updates, including as far as I recall one for Safari 5. The update process appeared to have gone well at the time, though, and was not interrupted in any way. I have never had this specific problem with the computer/screen before, though.
I've read a couple of threads here regarding very similar issues with newer MBP models than mine, in which it has been suggested that the fault may lie in a malfunctioning NVIDIA GeForce graphics card. Now I've had that replaced already once because my screen went unexpectedly completely blank after a forced reboot 1-2 years ago (I don't remember exactly), but according to my System Profiler info the card still a GeForce 8600M GT. Can it be failing again?
I've also had some kind of a RAM card failure once. As far as I understood it, one of the RAM cards had fried and was preventing the computer from starting up. I replaced the bad 1GB card with a new 2GB one and the problem was resolved. Before the computer died, there were also other symptoms, but they were not similar to these.
I'm also doing the Apple Hardware Test tomorrow. Any other suggestions, though, than the graphics card?
*Could this have to do with Flash or Safari 5?* Just hear me out. Even though my computer has frozen from watching a video in just QuickTime, Safari 5 has always been open in the background at the same time, and more likely than not with websites with "Flash" content open. And come to think of it, before I performed the Snow Leopard and Safari 5 updates, I used to have daily problems viewing Flash video in Safari 5, the video content either suddenly showing up as "Plug-in Failure" or crashing the browser; I've had both Safari 5 and the Safari 5 Flash plug-in "quit unexpectedly" countless times in the past, almost daily. Sometimes the "Plug-in Failure" could be fixed just by refreshing the browser view; at other times, Safari 5 would stop showing Flash content altogether - Flash banner ads (such as Google ads), YouTube and other Flash videos, everything - until I quit and restarted Safari 5. BUT - since the day I updated everything via Software Update, I don't remember this happening; it never gets to "Plug-in Failure" now. Could it be worth trying to use e.g. just Firefox for a while or is there something (e.g. Adobe Flash) that I could try reinstall? Or am I just clutching at straws here?
Thanks for reading this long, long post!

Do you have access to an Apple Store? If so, it may be worth making an appointment at the genius bar and having them run the test for the NVIDIA problem. Since your replacement logic board still has the NVIDIA GeForce 8600 M GT video chip, it could be starting to happen to your replacement logic board.
I also agree with all of CMCSK's suggestions. Freezing is often associated with hard drive problems. You might also want to run SMART Utility:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/smartutility.html
You can download the demo and run it several times for free. It will give you a very comprehensive view of the physical health of your hard drive. If you still have the original one from 2007, it's getting pretty long in the tooth and may be approaching the end of its average useful life of 3-5 years. I just recently had to replace my original 2007 Fujitsu drive.
If your drive is headed south, and is also too small, it may be time to upgrade to a larger and faster drive.
The software update probably didn't cause the problems, but it may have exposed problems that were already in existence.
    Good luck!

  • TS3232 I have the mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter firmware 1.03 and I still have screen flickering issues

I have the mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter firmware 1.03 and I still have massive screen flickering issues on a Mac Mini 2012.
I am using a Dell 30" monitor (it's the Samsung screen just rebranded) connected to a WD 4TB Thunderbolt drive connected to the Mac Mini.
The screen is usable for the most part when I've just started the computer (although today I started having issues after a fresh restart) but if even just the screen goes to sleep, or the computer goes to sleep and I wake it later, I start to have massive flickering to black and occasionally to snow.
The effect seems to be more likely to arise when I'm on heavy graphics-intensive websites or programs (eg, Tumblr feed with lots of GIF images or working in Adobe Premiere), but once it starts shutting down those programs has no effect, the screen keeps flickering wildly.
The problem improved after the 1.03 firmware upgrade (for a while it was flickering uncontrollably ALL the time and was virtually unusable) but it has not gone away.
Any suggestions would be very welcome, either for how to fix this issue or how to get Apple to, you know, let me TELL THEM that their adapter firmware fix has NOT solved the issue, since my phone support has expired. :/

I have a new Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter to allow my original Apple 30" Cinema Display to connect to the new Mac Pro.  Shipped straight from Apple, it is firmware version 1.03.  I've never had flickering issues, but the display will often go black (possibly after a screen power save) and not come back.  when this happens I am still able to connect to and use the Mac via remote connection.  But the only way to get the screen back is either to unplug the adapter and plug it back in to the Mac, or to shut down and power up the Mac.  This may be a separate issue, so I'll also post it standalone...
