Lumia 620 - connection speed to router ( BT (UK) H...

I have a UK BT Home Hub 2b.
My nettbook connects to it at either 54Mbps or occasionally 104Mbps, as reported by the router. The speed is usually 54 but occasionally when close to the router (or maybe on 'low noise' days) it hits 104.
My 620 always connects at 39Mbps as reported by the router never faster and never slower. Even if I'm right by the router or at the other end of the house, its 39Mbps as reported by the router.
This seems odd to me that the netbook, a few years old now, seems to connect faster than a phone purchased in the last month. I know 39Mbps is probably fast enough in reality for a phone, but was wondering if others have seen this speed differenece or if I have a setting somewhere incorrectly set (either on the router or the phone), or maybe the phone is faulty?
The networks is set for 'n' working. I have asked BT who were of little help.
Any ideas?
Any Lumia 620 people on a BT hub of any type getting similar speeds (39Mbps) or connecting at faster speeds?
Thanks in advance.

aleisha11,
Thanks for the reply. I was more hoping that others would share their typical connection speeds. I realise its not (probably) possibly to make direct comparissons between a netbook and a phone, but they are the only two bits of wireless kit I have.
I only asked, because tucked away in the NOKIA FAQs was this gem:
When connecting Nokia mobile device (e.g. N8-00) to a WLAN access point using the IEEE 802.11n mode, connectivity issues have been observed with access points from certain vendors. Problems have been observed with at least the following WLAN products:
FritzBox 7270
Livebox 2
BT HomeHub V2.0 Type B
Netgear DGN1000
The issue is related to a WLAN chip used in these access points. To solve the problems, it is recommended to upgrade the access point firmware to the latest version.
If there is no firmware update available or the update doesn't help, the workaround is to disable the 802.11n mode and force the access points to use just the 802.11b/g mode.
And as it doesn't mention the specifics or the BT HH2b software level, I just wondered if the lower speed had an impact on my main issue - http://betalabs.nokia.com/trials/play-to-for-wp8/Discussion/Play-to-lumia-620-DLNA-panasonic-video-s...
I'd still be interested in anyone typical router connection speed if they would care to share.

  • Lumia 620 & Windows Phone App Connection Problems

I've been having problems with a Lumia 620 connecting to the Windows Phone App on my Windows 8 laptop. The App keeps reporting that the phone has a problem and is not playing nicely. I've eliminated the laptop as the issue as my Lumia 920 connects without a hitch. I'm guessing the issue is with the Lumia 620's software as it was recently updated in the past two months. Any solutions out there apart from resetting the phone?

you could try to uninstall the windowsphone app from your laptop and reinstall it to see if maybe it wasn't connecting and loading the drivers correctly.

  • Lumia 620 wifi connection problem

My Lumia 620 disconnect wifi few times a day, few hours everytime, whenever I go to the wifi settings, either  there are just wifi(without mine) with no signal or nothing at all. Restarting phone and router won't work

    Hi sengyau,
Thank you for posting and welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions!
Does the issue only happen with a particular Wi-Fi? Is the behavior same when connecting to other Wi-Fi networks? Try rebooting the phone. Don't forget to remove and replace the battery. If you have a phone cover, remove it for a while and connect the phone to the Wi-Fi to test it. Covers may block the Wi-Fi antena from receiving signals.
You may also delete the WiFi profile saved in the phone. Go to Settings, and then Wi-Fi. Tap and hold the Wi-Fi network that's having issues, and then delete. After that, reconnect the phone to the same Wi-Fi network.
It's also recommended to keep the phone software up-to-date. Check it by going to Settings, and then Phone update.
Failing still, try to restore the original settings of the phone. Go to Settings, and then About. Hit Reset device. However, this step will erase all data stored in the phone. Kindly create a backup under Settings, and then Backup. You may also transfer your media files to the PC via USB-MTP to avoid data loss. Consider resetting as your last resort.
    Hope this information helps.

  • Lumia 620 fails to connect to car bluetooth - coll...

My lumia 620 did initially connect to my ford focus car audi/phone successfully.  However after about a week it failed to connect and I haven't been able to connect since. Defeats the object of hands-free!
Steps taken (which work with previous phones of various makes/models):
    Turn bluetooth on in car
    Turn on phone bluetooth connectivity
Car display finds my phone successfully and provides a PIN to enter in the phone
Phone bluetooth status says 'unable to connect to ford audio system' and times-out.
I've noticed that the 'tap to pair' message doesn't appear as it previously did and I can't find anywhere else to look for bluetooth settings.
A colleague who has an identical phone can successfully connect - it does show the 'tap to pair' message.
I have updated the ford audio system software and checked the other phone connects ok. I have also tried removing the phone battery several times but still no joy.
    Help please - thanks

  • Should connecting to a router affect speed of Internet connection?

I have a Netgear router and I have connected it to two MacBook Airs that I have.
I have cable internet, a line that comes out from the wall, and which I stick into the computer using the USB ethernet dongle.
But now that I am using a router, I connect the cable line into the router and use the ports to connect to the computers.
    My question is:
What is the correct IP address that should be showing?
    Network System Preferences show:
    Status: Connected
USB ethernet is currently active and has the IP address 192:168.x.xx
The usual IP address (when I am not using a router) is usually 185.xxx.x.xx.
Is this OK, that it's showing the routher IP address?
The reason why I am asking is that the internet speeds seem to be slower when I am on the router.
It might just be my imagination and also because I am checking the speed a lot more than usual.
Should connecting a router affect the speed of the internet?
The router's maximum speed is 300 mbps and the cable internet's speed is 100 mbps.
I have noticed that the speed of the internet with the router is very variable: about 12 - 80 mbps.
    Should I not worry?
I know that the internet speed with cable internet can fluctuate a lot more than with DSL.
    Thanks for any replies.

I am connected to the router by LAN cables. I am not using wireless. I am using cable modem.
The cable from the wall goes to the router into the WAN port. Ethernet cables go from the router's LAN ports and to the two computers.
When I wasn't using the router, the speed of the cable internet could go as high as 100, occasionally as high as 200 (100 was the advertised speed of the cable internet).
Now, with the router, it's around 30. But I have gone as high as 80 while I have been testing with the router connected.
I think I am worrying for nothing, but I just want to know generally --- does a router affect the speed (assuming it's a  router that can handle maximum speeds of the cable modem and that it's connected correctly, etc)?
I read that cable speed can depend on how many people are using it at the same time in that area and that sort of thing. I know the cable speed does vary a lot. But usually it's good during the daytime, about 90 mbps.

  • Lumia 620 unable to connect to PC

My lumia 620 is unable to connect to my win 8.1 pc. Whenever I plugin my device it starts getting charged but nothing shows up so that I could access the files in my mobile. It was working all right till a couple of days back; then I came across this "Project my Screen app". As I was unable to project my device, I follwed the instructions as posted here . I deleted my drivers associated with windows phone just in hope to get it working, but I failed. I looked for troubleshoot and got this . I tried the each step mentioned but it didn't materialise. Kindly help me out.

  • USB connection Lumia 620 and Peugeot 5008

    Hello,
my Lumia 620 is not recognized by my Peugeot 5008. The display of the car reports : fault USB device. Because the phone is not recognized, it will not charge either. My phone is equiped with 32 Gb SD card (removing the card is no option because my navigation data and music is installed on the SD card). I have been to the garage to check the USB software of the car. This was the latest available. Can anybody help? Must Nokia change the 'authentication' of the phone or must Peugeot update there USB software? The Peugeot dealer told be there were more problems , also with HTC phones. Please help...
PS: connecting the phone to the USB of a laptop will charge the battery. For the time being I have a USB sigaret charger which also works.
    Thank you in advance,
    Remco

  • Lumia 620 can't connect to internet after system u...

I have a brand new Nokia Lumia 620, I've only had it for about a month. I saw there was a new system update this past Saturday, so I updated my phone. With the update came Data Sense, the option to block numbers from calling/texting me, and some other new options in the Settings menu. However I've noticed that I can't connect to the internet though my data plan anymore. I have 500 MB included on my plan and suddenly I can't use it. Connecting though wi-fi works fine. I looked through settings, it says my 3G connection is on and everything. I don't really know what to do.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Next thing to try involves a little more work. You need to contact your network and get the apn settings. Once you have the settings, goto Settings>Access points>+, then set up access point using the apn settings you got earlier.  Once you set it up, make sure to activate it and see if this works.

  • How do I tell what speed (wireless) the ATV is connected to my router at?

Just swapped one 'n' router for another (Netgear DG834N for DGN2000) and am finding that syncing media between iMac and ATV is suddenly taking 10x as long so wondering if my ATV is connected at full speed. I've confirmed that the iMac is connected to the router @ 130Mbps - should that be 270Mbps for 'n'?
...devices are all very close to router for testing purposes and signal strength is excellent.
    Cheers,
    Adam

The tv should operate at the fastest network speed available.
130 Mbps is what I would expect from a base station that is transmitting at 2.4 Ghz 802.11n with 802.11b/g compatibility.
If you have changed a 802.11g router to a 802.11n, then you may or may not see improved performance depending on your connection between the base station and the mac/pc, but if your performance is worse you may want to examine the router settings.

  • WRT54G Very Slow connection speeds away from the router

I have installed my router in the living room. The connection speed is perfect in the living and dinning area , as we move away from the router to the inner rooms (bedrooms) the signal strength remains fine (very good) but slowly the internet speed drops untill it stops. The signal strenght still shows as very good. Doing a "repair" - switch off and "switch on" -  on the laptops wirelss adapter brings back the connection speed for a while before it falls off again.
Any suggestions for this prob please!!!

Make sure that the firmware on the router is up to date. If not then download the Firmware from the Linksys web site. Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Open the setup page of the router. Got o Administration tab and click on firmware upgrade sub tab. Upgrade the latest firmware on the router.
After upgrading the firmware, it is recommended that you should reset the router and reconfigure the router.

  • Lumia 620 video format - Panasonic TV

I had previously had problems with DLNA streamiing - http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nokia-Lumia/Lumia-620-quot-Play-To-quot-app/td-p/1772318http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nokia-Lumia/Lumia-620-quot-Play-To-quot-app/td-p/1772318 and have now been in discussion with Panasonic.
They seem to be claiming the Nokia Video format is not compatibile with their TV sets ( well mine anyway, a TX-L37DT30B ).
The Panasonic manual seems to say it can handle MP4 files of type H.264 BP/MP/HP with AAC/MP3 audio.
The Nokia web site for the 620 says "Video recording formats: MP4/H.264" and "Audio recording file formats: 3GP, 3G2"
The Panasonics DLNA "file manager" can see the video and reports it as 1280x720p MP4 file, but it stutters badly when played back via the 'Play To' Beta app.
    So the questions basically are:
    Am I missing something,
    Are these video/Audio formats compatibile?
And more importantly, should the Lumia 620 be able to play back video on a Panasonic TV? (Any other panasonic users out there).
    Thank you

Beta forum - that will have to wait then. I've had two attempts to post to it (from different browsers) and both failed. After pressing <submit> to make the post it gives a message "server unavailable" (or some such nonsense).
    I tried to post:
I'm trying to stream Lumia 620 video to a panasonic TV using DLNA via a BT Home Hub 2B. The phone connects wirelessly to the router, and the TV connects via powerline Eth adapters to the router.
Whilst I can connect and see photos on the TV, video is just a stuttering slide show.
I originally posted here - http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nokia-Lumia/Lumia-620-video-format-Panasonic-TV/td-p/1810002 and was advised to post on the Beta discussion as well.
The video stutters when played by DLNA, but the same video transferred to an SD card via a PC, plays OK in the TV.
I've been on touch with Panasonic and they seem to be blaming the phones video format for not playing in the media server, yet their brochure for the TV claims it can play 720p MP4 videos.
    Any ideas?
Should the Lumia be able to stream its own videos to a Panasonic TV?
    Thank you.

2 year old W7 PC. PC works with WiFi
Phone can see the network, but tells me 'password incorrect' (This password works with the PC)
I have tried ... slowing the data rate on the router ... switching the WiFI to 'unsecured' ... carefully entering the password so there are no keying errors or timeouts ... switching off the PC's WiFi (it's the only other wireless client) ... MAC filtering is disabled ... ensuring the router's WiFi channel is 'auto'

Because Windows Phone is totally different, you cannot make the assumption this is your cause.
Unfortunately, you have to debug your issue with the administrator of your Wi-Fi. He has to log the traffic and debug on which protocol layer the failure happens. WPA-Enterprise is a very complex thing and we cannot help you virtually. Most use WPA-PSK. With WPA-PSK doing several checks on your own, is quite ‘easy’. In the extreme (rare) case, you have to replace the access point.
However, with WPA-Enterprise the problem could be the RADIUS server, the certificate, the access-point, or even your credentials must be provided in a special way. This needs an expert at your premises.
