Lumia 720 and Skype problems

Hello there,
I keep on having problems with brand new 720 an Skype app. It does not happen everytime, but:
- I'm able to freeze the device just by making few calls (ie. to test service).
- sometimes also anwering a call breaks: voice is active but phone screen shows black screen with "Loading..." text.
Anyone else experiencing similar problems ?

You can try the following tips:
1. Close any running applications in the background that requires internet connection. This can also be one of the reasons why the phone freezes.
2. Make sure you have a stable connection to avoid disruption of calls and showing the black screen with "Loading..." text.
If the above mentioned tips didn't help, you can also try pressing and holding both the volume down button and the power key for 10 seconds to reset your phone. Note that your files are safe while doing this.

Lumia 720 and ipad don,t pair

Why don't Lumia 720 and ipad pair via Bluetooth? My ipad says that "this device is not supported"? I heard the same problem with Lumia 820. I'm very disappointed.

What are you trying to do? Bluetooth in Windows Phone will not support a constant (streaming) pair for things like file transfers. You can use the Objext Exchange profile for that.
Be a bit more precise on what you are trying to do. If the iPad has proper Bluetooth support it should pair and accept a transmitted file if you start this on the phone (share a file through Bluetooth)

Lumia 720 pixel row problem and warranty

Hello,
I have a 6 month Lumia 720 that has developed a problem in which a complete vertical row of pixels doesn't work in blue, green, yelloow, and other background colors.
I took it for warranty and they told me that they must exchange it for a new unit but they don't have 720's in stock.
THEY WANT TO GIVE ME SOMETHING LOWER THAN EVEN A LUMIA 630, I consider that totally unfair, given that even the 630 is a total downgrade.
How can that be possible? What can I do?

Lumia series and antenna problems - true?

Just found a very odd recently made study of mobile phones antenna performance. It seems to be serious science, but the results are most definitely not in Lumia's favor. Actually Lumia 925 is rated as the phone with the worst results - which seems ludicrous to me. It's the first I've heard of antenna problems with the series. Can anyone confirm or deny problems with the antenna on recent Lumia models? What are your experiences?

It is normal for the signal bars on the phone to fluctuate as it jumps between different cell towers, and both the cell towers and the phone adjust their transmit power all the time. Different phones have different behaviour of the signal indicator. The actual antenna performance can only be measured in a controlled environment, like the nerds from Aalborg University do in the PDF link in the first post.
In real life the antenna performance of my Lumia 720 is on par with my N8. In poor coverage they both give up in the same places. The behaviour selecting 2G or 3G is different though, since the N8 favour 2G when talking while walking or driving, where the Lumia always want to hang on to 3G whenever possible.
Regarding the Aalborg University antenna test, these people are independent and serious about what they do.
Please read the whole PDF, so you'll see that the poor performance is only when held in a phantom hand towards a phantom head, in the right hand, as seen in the cover picture, and that it mainly affects the GSM900 (2G) frequency band, on the devices tested at the time.

Lumia 720 and RAM size

Dear All;
I was quite happy when I heared about Lumia 720 which was matching my requirement in terms of dimentions, weight and battery, but it was a shock for me to know the RAM is only 512??!!!!!!
I'm concerned about the performance and the future support for WP8. Will such small RAM be sufficient for the phone to perform without any lags??? ant what about the future support for WP8 as microsoft stated very clearly in their website that some apps and fetures will require 1 GB RAM, see link below (end of the page)

Well, it's good to see you are still here then.. That said, could you elaborate on what 'one of those' means and why you think that would suit you better? What we have now is 'Would having 512MB RAM be an issue' to which the answer basically is no, except you may not be able to use some of the more resource hungry apps like some games. It will not in any way prevent the phone from everyday use.
We would assume you refer to Android phones and in the same price range you'll get a decent mid range phone but not with a feature set the 720 offers. That said if you prefer that, that's perfectly fine and all the best with that, but so far it would seem you reason and decide based on specs alone which would IMO be not the best way to choose your weapon of choice.

MSN and Skype problems on 8320

I am using 8320. I have been having problems with opening websites and accessing MSN and Skype (Yahoo Messenger works) recently. The technical officer from my ISP just solved my website browsing problem by doing a hard reset but MSN and Skype are still refusing to work. For MSN, I always to log in but right after that it says there is an internal error and I should try later. This has been going on for a couple of weeks so I don't think it is a server problem. I was also able to use Skpe one week ago.
What should I do now? The technical officer said I am left with my last option, which is to do a "wipe_handheld" (everything will be erased!!).

that will allow you to connect to the MSN network.

Lumia 720 - gps altitude problem

Hi, I have a problem with gps altitude, on my lumia 720. While tracking it randomly drops the the altitude value to nearly 0. I've noticed this in every app I tried.
Does anyone noticed this bug? Is there any way to fix it?

Lumia 720 touch screen problem Bought Today!!!!!!

Earlier today I bought a Lumia 720 on contract with o2, I got home and turned the phone on. Everything seemed fine as I set up my microsoft etc. However I noticed it began to open tiles itself. When I was using the phone the screen would change like, well like somebody else was using it too. I went on calculator and when I took my hands away from the touchpad I noticed that something was setting off the touch screen, setting off all of the buttons on the calculator. It looks like something is setting off the touch screen without anything actually being near. I have factory reset the phone but it still continues. I will return the phone to o2 if I can't find a solution.

Just return it back to the store ASAP thats what id do.

FaceTime and Skype problem

Hey guys, I need help cos I'm seriously getting ticked off ! I moved from the UK to Florida in March .. Up til then my FaceTime and Skype worked perfectly as I was using both to talk to my now wife every day for hours. Since March and updating to iOS 6.1.3 and now the new ios7 updates neither one will work when calling any other apple device. This has also stopped working on my ipod and iPhone. If I FaceTime anyone it freezes instantly and no call lasts longer than a few seconds. Same with Skype. But if I use my iPad to Skype a PC then it works fine. This is really frustrating me and have tried all the normal fixes even spoke to Brighthouse on the weekend as Apple told me that it could be my router, but as Brighthouse stated, my speed of internet is just over more than what I pay for and if my PC will Skype to Skype plus if my iPad will Skype to PC then it's not the internet. Anyone else come across this ?

Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them.
From the application's menu bar, select
File ▹ Restore Standard Fonts...
You'll be prompted to confirm, and then to enter your administrator login password.
Boot in safe mode to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.
Also note that if you deactivate or remove any built-in fonts, for instance by using a third-party font manager, the system may become unstable.

Lumia services and application problem

Dear sir,
I am using nokia phones from last 10 years. I have lumia 820. Before lumia i have nokia n8 which is too good. Problem with lumia series is as under
Not enough applications like flash transfer, prper Maps, file manager and many more.
Size of the appilication is too big compare to android.
Application only save in phone memory not in SD card big problem.
Not have hdmi support which should be available in these kind of phones.
We can not tranfer selected contacts from lumia to other phone via bluooth.
Some time hidden services access processor and battery.
There are others
Sir, if you lounch new series than old facility of the phone should be there and have some extra. After N series lumia can not gain big market because of these kind of limitation.
Please do needful in these matter.

Instinctively, you are right. However, Nokia was never able to do that. When they introduced Symbian/S60, Series 40 was much more mature in many regards. When they introduced Maemo, Symbian was much more mature in many regards – and now with Windows Phone it is not even the fault of Nokia anymore. There you go …

Photo booth face time and skype problems

Hello i have recently updated to mountion lion 10.8.5 but the problem is everything works except my photobooth .facetime... and other video/ camera options ...
tried resetting the smc...taking the battery out ..etc and i also know it isnt a hardware problem because it was working just fine before the update..Is anyone else having this same problem?

if you've done an SMC reset and the issue still persists in all the applications that use the internal camera there may be a hardware issue.
you need to see if the internal camera is listed in the system profile:
click on black apple, about this mac, more info, system report and under the hardware section. click on USB look to the left and make sure the HD facetime camera is showing up there if it's not the mac needs serviced so take to apple store or service provider to have it looked at for repair.

Ipad and skype problem

When I use skype on our new Ipad my video works, but the person I can not see the person I am shatting with. It just continues to say "initating contact". I have read about other having this problem, but is there a solution? Thanks!

Ok I just talked to support via chat and apparently this is a known iPhone mobile App issue. This is exactly what he said to me: "I was informed that this issue already have a ticket to our engineers and they are already working on this one. This has something to do with the latest version of Skype for tablets and mobiles. We may release another version of Skype app so once an update is avaialble, update the app on your phone ASAP." Hope this ease some frustration.

Lumia 720/520 Availabilty and Price in Singapore, ...

All the news articles about Lumia 720 and 520 say that the phones will be available first in Singapore, Vietnam and Hong Kong in Q1/March 2013 - which would mean, well, right now.
The Nokia's Singapore & Vietnam web sites already display information about these 2 models, but have no mention about the price or whether they are actually on sale in their countries' stores already. The Hong Kong web site still has not update.
Anyone know if the actual phones are already on sale in stores in those countries and what are the prices?
