Lumia 720 Internet Connection

Hi,
I'm using Lumia 720 now and the latest version is WP8 Amber. The internet connection is getting a problem for me. When I'm connecting to internet data, the 2G speed is normal but 3G is getting connection problem. Sometimes I can connect but sometimes no. My operator is Digi and I stay in Kota Samarahan, Sarawak. My friends data connection is no problem but only me. I just bought this phone are one month. And previously there is no this type of problem with my old phone. So I think either is the phone 3G antenna or the software of this phone. Can u check for me what is happening to this? Is it my phone will have this problem or to other Lumia 720?

This is a user to user forum, so we can't check your phone for you. You can however, get your phone checked out at your local Nokia Care Point.

  • Nokia Lumia 720 internet sharing DNS problem

    Hi,
I am using Nokia Lumia 720 (OS version 8.0.10517.150) for internet sharing and have had DNS issues lately. When connecting to hotspot with my laptop I get DNS server is not responding error. Phone has data connection and I can browse the internet through phone but cant use it to share the data connection. When I connect my laptop with other wifis it works fine also so the fault must be in Lumias hotspot generation.
Had the same problem few weeks ago but then restarting the device and changing hotspot settings helped but it does not do the job right now.
    Any ideas?

    Hi kalverk,
    Welcome to the forum!
Have you tried using your micro-SIM card with other internet sharing capable phones to verify it the issue is network or device related? Aside from your laptop, have you tried sharing your Lumia 720's internet connection with other phones?
Here are some tips that might help you resolve the issue:
    1. If enabled, switch Battery saver mode off: Tap Settings > battery saver > Off. You can also just connect the phone to the charger.
    2. Check the signal strength on the phone screen. To increase the signal strength, move around or move towards a window if you are inside a building.
    3. Keep your phone in the idle mode. Incoming or outgoing call will interrupt the data transfer until the call ends.
    4. Check the cellular data indicator (E, 2G, 3G, H+, 4G) at the left side of the phone's screen. Change the mobile network's highest connection speed from 3G/4G to 2G and back again to make sure that your phone is connecting to the network correctly. Go to Settings > mobile network (or mobile + SIM or cellular or cellular + SIM).
    5. Make sure that the internet sharing security type (if not selectable, WPA2 is used) and password settings match between the connecting device and your phone (Settings > internet sharing).
    6. Make sure that the operator mobile data plan subscription allows Wi-Fi tethering and your network operator has enabled internet sharing on the phone.
    7. If possible, try to create a connection with some other device or force the connecting device Wi-Fi adapter to use 802.11g standard - disable 802.11n mode. On a Windows PC, go to Control Panel > Network and Internet >Network Connections, and right click your active Wireless Network Connection and open Properties >Configure > Advanced, then select 802.11n and set value to Disabled. Once ready, press OK.
    8. Connect again, as internet sharing switches off after 5 minutes of inactivity.
Let us know how it will go.

  • Lumia 820 Internet Connection Problem

    Hi Everyone,
Today I've noticed that my internet when not connected to Wi-FI, doesn't work. In the top left corner it regularly has 3-4 bars, but doesn't show H+, 4G or anything that it normally has. Could someone please provide any suggestions or answers to this problem.
    Thankyou

Just to clarify. Are you saying your mobile data connection never works or only doesn't work when there is no wifi connection?

  • Lumia 820 internet connection

I cannot connect to the internet through 3G even though it shows at the top. My only connection is through Wi-fi. I have had all the settings and the Sim card checked by my Telco (Telstra) and they all check out ok.

    Australia or New Zealand?

  • Lumia 920 - internet sharing doesn't work: Connect...

    Hello all,
I'm experiencing a serious problem with the lumia 920. It seems impossible to share my internet connection. Something I normally use for several hours a day. If this problem can't be fixed soon, ill be forced to swithc back to iphone or htc.
    Problem description:
    When turning "internet sharing" on:
Connection not shared - There is no cellular data connection to share right now. Check your cellular settings and signal, and try again.
    Important remarks
Belgium - cellular provider is Mobistar
I can browse, sync email, etc over the provider's network ans send and receive MMS.
Provider does not block internet sharing. Have always used this.
    OS Version 8.0.10211.204
    Firmware revision: 1232.5957.1308.0002
    Access point :
     Nokia Access Point version:3.4.1.7 - db 2.0.0.100 - lib 1.2.0.7
The default access point provided in the Nokia Access Point app does not work: can't even browse.
     Using a manually added APN:
Data type (default / LTE) tried both. Everything keeps working - except internet sharing...
     APN pro.web.be  (for professional subscribers)
    MMS APN mms.be
    MMSC address: https://mmsc.mobistar.be
What have i tried to remedy the situatiuon?
updated the Nokia Access Point app
changed language to spanisch using OTA update (silly, but read on a forum this might help)
soft reset of the phone (often!)
deleted the manually created access point
     Hard reset of my phone
I'm interested, of course, in any tips to solve this serieus bug / issue / problem.
(my best guess is that Nokia tries to help their customers with the Access point app, but fails to do so).
Please, if any of you experience the same problem please respond to this post so we can get an idea about how big of a problem this is.

    Hi,
I had the same problem. But I let it go after weeks of corresponding with Mobistar.
Yesterday I went to a Mobistar shop, the guy tried lots of thing I already tried (different apn's, ...).
Then he told me the it's a problem with business clients. They have to use the apn web.pro.be, where internet sharing doesn't work (he doesn't know why).
But, that if I call to Mobistar and ask to activate apn mworld.be on my telephone number, it should work.
Today I called Mobistar Business (you can find the helpdesk number on your invoices), asked to activate mworld.be to have internet sharing access on a windows phone.
Half an hour later, using mworld.be as apn i have internet access, and I can share my internet connection.
    regards,
    Stijn

  • Problems in internet connection in Lumia 710

I have problems in internet connections in Lumia 710... I have to reset the phone everytime for the connection to work properly...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I can let you know this is not a known issue with the Windows ecosystem as the Lumia range of devices, the hardware itself maybe different specification but the ecosystem is the same. Also I myself have 710 and have never had this issue and am based in the UK so the statement from your network provider is false. Who is your network provider?
What I recommend you do is take your device to your nearest Nokia care point to have the device inspected. You can look at the link below for the nearest one:
    http://www.nokia.com/global/support/locations/
Also did you ask your network provider for a new sim? Was the phone purchased off line or part of a contract?
Finally are you 100% sure your data plan is active? Also go into settings and mobile network and make sure data connection is on and highest speed is set to 3G

  • Nokia Lumia 521 - WiFi connected, but no internet ...

I have a brand new Lumia 521 on T-Mobile. I set up the wifi connection and it shows connected. However, there is no internet connection. Cannot download any app or anything.
Trouble Shooting: Rebooted the phone couple of times. Turned on/off wifi. delete/re-connect wifi.
Reboot wireless router couple of times.
Turned off the data service on my phone and only wifi is on now. Checked my router that there is an entery for my Windows Phone, but could not get any logs.
    Nothing helped so far...
Loaded my sim with funds, thinking if something no fund is blocking it somewhere :-D
Everything is fine on my other smartphones.
Did I receive a faulty device?

At least you have 8.1. Those of us with 521 not updated yet, no real answers. Someone at Nokia going to close thread cuz no one posting. What to post, you should've been a politician with the no answer answer. Whole experience makes me rethink Microsoft and Nokia altogether. Both companies I used to believe in and support. Even word and excel don't sync well from phone to desktop. Backup for what? Only if you reset phone. That is backup even DOS using command lines would have been ashamed of (honestly so long ago don't remember if it had backup but I know my 386SX did) Pictures duplicate, triplicate and repopulate after deleted and I have backup to cloud turned off. seems Microsoft thinks differently than I about this issue? It continues to bring back a pic of EX that i hate...Great reminder!!!!. Phone storage eaten and not accessible to delete. Not allowed to delete certain apps that came with phone. Now I delete apps I prefer and no space becomes available? Do not use Nokia cinemagraph. Can't be viewed anywhere but on phone without converting. And what phone/camera has no flash? My parents old 110 (I think) at least had a cube. Poloroid built in...just saying that was the early 80s. Now lock screen and theme (ugly muted colors, btw) not working, can't get space back even when hooked to desktop, use cloud 6 now to keep phone and cloud from changing between app and desktop, have to convert all Nokia files, and most apps not available from what I can gather because Microsoft limits us. Nokia and Microsoft, get your acts together before marketing with one another. And, have answers to these questions. If you can't do it right, don't do it all. Maybe best to walk away from one another. Although, other than poor apps and flimsy phone, I am more disappointed in a guru conglomerate that doesn't care about the user. You keep trying to catch up with Mac and Droid...not at this rate. Excel fave program to use and love outlook. But this is crap on a stick, SOS and plain junk. And, the mighty do fall. I remember original Apple having market, commodore 64 and Tandy? Two of the three no longer exist. IBM was a typewriter back then, as far as I was aware. For Nokia, Here doesn't usually get me to correct place with full addy and zip entered) Not a good platform or flimsy phone. Can't wait to go back to Droid....so, I suggest every time I can't find an answer from one of your sites, you stop asking what I think. Here it is. And, I could keep going and going....atop asking if you don't give a hoot.. and, I'm sure this will never be posted cuz Microsoft determines what I can and can't do with this thing

Trying to set up Blackberry Torch for laptop tethering...bluetooth. I have connection/drivers/etc. but keep getting error message: "Error 720: A connection to the remote computer could not be established. You might need to change the network settings for this connection." Where and what do I chancge setting to so this will work?
I have synched my phone and laptop wirelessly across other internet connection....just cant get this above to work. Anybody know how to fix this? Thanks!

    Hi,
Since it worked previously, a quick solution is to run System Restore and get back to the previous status when the issue didn’t occur.
If system restore doesn’t help, please also try the following:
    1.    Check if you can establish the VPN via other connections except the connection through the UMTS card.
    2.    Reset the PPTP and L2TP WAN miniport with running the following commands one by one in an elevated command prompt:
    Netcfg -u MS_L2TP
    Netcfg -u MS_PPTP
    Netcfg -l %windir%\inf\netrast.inf -c p -i MS_PPTP
    Netcfg -l %windir%\inf\netrast.inf -c p -i MS_L2TP
Then reboot the computer and see how it works.
Meanwhile, I would like to share the following with you for your reference:

    Hope this helps. Thanks.

Does it get sorted if you uninstall the subject application ? If so..the problem lies with the application and not the phone ...
..but before that confirm that you are connected to the Internet .. You may try after rebooting the phone. Also un-install and re-install the application and try again ..

  • Lumia 720 YouTube live streaming problem

I've problem in playing live YouTube videos in Lumia 720 even im using a wifi connection..... Error : sorry, video cannot be played on your device

I am having the same problem with all three windows phone 8 devices. Videos on youtube play fine on 3G/H/H+ network status. But fails to play while connected through wifi. I have set the preference in internet explorer browser for mobile version of webpages.
On cellular network when I type youtube in bing and searched, it automatically sends me to the mobile version of youtube. I searched for videos in youtube srarch window and the results also open in mobile page format. so playing a video from there is not a problem.
Over wifi connection I searched the same on bing and as usually landed on mobile version of youtube page. Upto this everything is fine. But when i browse for videos on youtube page surprisingly it redirects me to desktop webpage format and never redirects to mobile page and in desktop version of youtube, most of the videos (almost all videos) will not play without Adobe flashplayer.
The same problem is occurring for all of my three windows mobile 8 devices.
I think this is a "nasty trick designed by youtube" to receive (steal?) information what kind of networks as well as devices people are using and behave that way, irrespective of the fact that I am using a mobile phone, they will treat me as viewing videos in a desktop computer.
Nokia and Microsoft must look into the matter seriously and should provide us a solution.

  • Nokia Lumia 720 Screen Problem

    Hi,
My 720 Lumia keeps blacking out randomly from hours on end before the screen is back up and runnign again. During this time though the phone is still on and I get texts and calls ook, but the screen is still not on. I tried the restart method to reboot the phone but ut didn't work. I can hit the lock key and the home, search and back buttons will still light up.
I've not a clue what is wrong with it. Any ideas?
    Sláinte,
    Pendtoni93

Hi, Pendtoni93. Are you still having this issue? When you said 'restart method', did you press and hold the volume down and power keys together until the phone vibrates and starts up?
Is the software of the phone updated? What's the current Firmware Revision number of the phone? Is 'Lumia Black' displayed under Settings > Extras+Info? How about the system apps? http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Pool-of-Knowledge/Nokia-Windows-Phone-8-App-Updates/td-p/1640082
If no, please go to Settings > Phone Update to manually check for it. Ensure that the internet connection is active. Verify this by searching via Bing or browsing via Internet Explorer of the phone.

    Help me..

    Hi Anindya1903,
Let us help you with this. Before we proceed with @Abi99's recommendation, take time to answer the questions below to isolate the issue:
    For the downloading of apps:
    • Are you unable to download any apps from the Windows Phone Store?
    • What exactly happens when you download them?
    • Is there any error message or code?
    • Which connection are you using? Wi-Fi or cellular data? Do you have a stable internet connection?
    • Were you able to browse any websites or access any internet-based apps using your phone?
    For the software update issue:
    • Where are you located? See: Software Update for Nokia Lumia with Windows Phone 8 to know the Lumia Cyan update availability in your country.

  • Lumia 720 glass breaks after first fall from 10 in...

    To my sheer HORROR,
My new Lumia 720 slipped outta my hands, landed on my lap, and then slipped from there too, to fall on the floor. The glass was cracked severly.  Even then, the phone is operational, the MIC is off and the phone is not connecting to the PC, although charging is working.
This is a serious design fail from NOKIA who are known for there Product Durability. Most of my previous phones were NOKIA (3310, 1100, 6630, lumia 900) and all have faced many falls but this phone (lumia 720) disaapointment.
Its not even a month old, and I rush it to the nearest NOKIA care centre. (previous visit was after 2 days of buying and a software error while updating). the NOKIA care executives were friendly, but were asking me to burn my pocket (not just a hole) and shelve Rs.8500, for the screen and glass assembly. I was bewildered. Hence i took this to the internet. Lot of reading and back and forth made me realize there is a faint hope in this scenaio. The Nokia care people are happily showing off other lumia 720's with broken screen to me as if they are laughing "look you moron, there are other idiots too, who bought this phone."
Following are my finding on this issue:
The repair cost ismore than half of the cost of the phone.
The damage with such a minor fall, is still my reponsibility as NOKIA warranty policy will consider this as a ACT of GOD (or the customer),
This site provides the digitizer assembly seperately for just $15. that means the actual damge done by me should not cause me more than $20 yet I am being asked roughly $140. that is 7 times more than the actual damage.
I want to ASK NOKIA here, is this  how they are trying to mint  money from the customers. The reason I opted out of Apple, or Samsung, is beacause of our believe in Nokia. But this time it has failed me.
Hello NOKIA, can i file a lawsuit againt you.

    kumararjuns wrote:
same problem with me... fell down from my bed n now its craked.. couldn't believe a mere call like that could break the so called goriilla glass.. the phone works though.. lost the belief i had in Nokia..
Mentioned HERE too .. so where will you go now ???
Finally its a Glass. Its high Scratch resistant ..so leave aside breaking, it MAY get scratched too thru' abuse ..

  • Lumia 720 - Whatsapp. Installed but couldn't verif...

I just bought the nokia 720. All internet connection is up and running, I can browse, skype and read email (meaning internet setting and line stability is good) using 3G.
However, after downloading whatsapp and tried verifying for the 1st time. the first screen under Verification, an error message "Could not connect to WhatsApp. Please check network settings and try again later".
I called the service provider (DIGI Malaysia) and asked for help. However, with all the rest of the apps work, they couldn't help any further.
Whatsapp has no help either. May I know has anyone successfully using Whatsapp on Lumia 720?
I am beginning to feel I am getting a lemon and the old nightmares of setting those silly E series phones again.
    HELP!!! Thanks

    Hi MayurMNaravani,
Don't you think the issue is with the WhatsApp application itself as you manage to browse the web and you are able to use WeChat just fine?
Have you tried uninstalling and then re-installing the application?
