Lumia 720 lacks in options.. WP 8 really needs mor...

Got this lumia 720 on monday, initially got a defective one, but got replaced.. now after few days using it, i find tat it lacks in so many options..
1) there is no copy paste or forward option in texting( SMS, whatsapp)
2) not able to group the applications under menu,
3) I had bad time in synchronising contacts from my nokia c5 to lumia 720, but later found a way and got fixed..
4)ter is no option to create a folder to save important sms,
5) not able to save places ( favorites) in here maps directly, we need nokia acct to synch... ovi maps were lot better...
6) no file explorer.. If you wanted to store private pics or data, you can, but need a pc or laptop to explore them again..
7) background apps dont run always,
8) more browsers and anti-virus need to added to the app store
I'm not a big app fan, but I use the basic apps tat are necessary.. My nokia c5 was extremely easy for customization and you can do whatever you like.. but windows lacks in many options...

1. Try pressing and holding the message you want to want to forward or copy. U should get options for deleting, copying and forwarding the message
2. Latest windows phone OS 7.5, 7.8 and 8 do not allow creation of folders.
3. Creating a nokia account is necessary if u need to use nokia maps. Please do the needful, nokia maps are good and can even be used offline if you download the maps u need.
4. Starting from winphone 7.5, there has been no file explorer provided. This is for security reasons.
5. Winphone OS 7.x and above does not truly multitask. Rather it uses a pseudo multitasking method. Apps get suspended when placed in the background. Plus no more than 5-6 apps can run if placed in the background.

Lumia 720 (mint used) or 532 (new)??

OK I need to finally upgrade from my old C5-00 as the maps aren't really working any more and would like Wifi & skype.
I have the choice of a 720 in mint used condition or a new dual SIM 532 for the same price. I don't game on my phone - am looking for mostly Maps (offline mode) support, skype (hence the choice of two phones with front cameras) , Whatsapp, and some other general apps.
I like the slightly smaller size of the 532, dual SIM, replaceable battery and the newness with warranty of the 532.
I like the camera with autofocus and flash, slightly slimmer and compass of the 720(although i don't really use the camera much on my phones)
Is the 512mb of the 720 going to be an issue?
Is the lack of Compass on the 532 for navigation (mostly bicycle and driving) going to be a problem?
What are evryone's opinions and why ?

Lumia 720 OS

Dear Nokia and Microsoft.
I have owned Nokia phones since they first came on the market as consumer products 18 years ago. I have found as I upgrade my phones the same reliability and similar functions have been available only to have been improved with the technology available.
Regarding my computing preference I have been a Microsoft supporter from W95, W98, XP, skipped Vista and now run my PC on W7. Though I have always found XP to be the best and still use it on my home and other office PCs.
I have never been a fan of apples, berries and other obscure space creature’s operating systems or products although they seem very popular and sell well.
When I found out that Nokia were going to use W8 as the operating system on the new Lumia products I believed it was the marrying of the best of both worlds. I believed this would include the great reliable features Nokia phones have always had over the years with a stable Windows OS and its features to complement.
I upgraded my Nokia E-7.00 to a Lumia 720 recently and have never been more disappointed with a Nokia product. Where have all the standard Nokia features gone?
If you are going to use someone else’s OS at least ensure they have the basic original manufacturers features installed so the product at least resembles the original brand.
You may as well put the W8 OS on a no-name brand as far as I am concerned.
I have posted some of my frustrations on this site and feel that many of the suggestions given as to why it doesn’t work the way I expect it to are given by people who do not own or use the product. Some of my queries have yet to be answered with an appropriate solution for the issue.
I purchased a Nokia because I wanted it to work like a Nokia. I do not bother comparing it to other brands OS and expected it to at least have the basic Nokia features. It may be worth your while collaborating with Microsoft and their OS people to at least include some of the basic Nokia features.
Some of my pet issues are:
When you receive a text message you have an option to attach or reply only. If you scroll up the screen then you can delete the thread only. If you tap on the message nothing happens. What ever happened to “Forward, Save to folder” or all the other options you had on previous models, never mind the ones you had on the wind up phones?
Now for the issue of my mail being removed from my server when accessing it with my phone, there does not seem to be a feature when setting up a POP3 email account, where you can retrieve Headers only or Msgs and attachments. I need my mail to go to my office PC besides being able read them when on the move. On the older version in the Sync content section when setting up a new account you had the choice. The W8 version removes the mail from my servers.
I gather I will just have to come to grips with the lack of being able to place the curser wherever I wanted but the feature on a keyboard is good and will be missed. It should be on the keypad.
And my all time favourite, the alarm clock. I don’t want to compare my phone to other brands and their OS, every Nokia I have owned so far had an alarm clock, and it worked when I turned my phone off, which I do every night, and I don’t care if it is in a deep sleep mode, I want it to work the way they always did.
I did add the Lumia storage check App so that I could move things to the Micro SD card; this should have been in the original OS though. It does work.
Please pass this on to product development and the guys who work on the OS as well as give them a few older Nokia models so they can at least give the Lumia a Nokia feel.

Microsoft came back with some replies to my queries and concerns, here are 2.
Hold your finger down on the message to get the forward/delete option for that message. There are no folders for SMS/Facebook chat/Messenger since everything is now based on conversations.
The phone is a reflection of the server. All modern smartphones behave like this. And it also further shows how ineffective POP3 is as a protocol in 2013. Switch to IMAP if you can.
You have to hold your finger on the message, not tap it.
They should be built to survive a 3M drop.

In Some part Touch is not Working in Lumia 720

I got my lumia 720 three months back.
It was working fine.
Suddenly day before yesterday my 3 touch keys(back,search,windows) didnt work.
So i reset my phone.
And after that i found that, From bottom to about 2.5 cm touch is not at all working throughout that area.
Please help me.
After reset two options ll be there. Emergency call and get started. M not able to select any. Because it is within that area where touch is not working

What reset did you perform? Is this by going to Settings > About? Did you also try to press the down volume and power keys together for 10-15 seconds?
If the touch screen is completely unresponsive, sending the phone to a Nokia Care Point is what I'd suggest.

How to get my Lumia 720's broken screen repaired?

Hi,
My Lumia 720 just fell out my hand on to the soil, and it's screen just broke today. This is really bad news from a Nokia Phone.
I want my screen to be repaired at the earliest and in the cheapest way.
I am looking for some serious suggestion, and not just trivial expensive stuff.

PS: I am losing my hope in the physical strength of Nokia Phones.

Lumia 720 - Highly Unreliable - phone, NOKIA servi...

I bought a new Lumia 720 from Spice Mobile Nokia dealer about 4 days ago and it has started giving problems now. My phone went dead even with full battery. It was really unexpected and disappointing that you buy a Rs. 18000 phone with no reliability of the phone or service. The dealer shirks of his earlier claims that he will replace my phone in the first 7 days of anny problem. He now clearly says no - such cheats you have your dealers as. They dont even know your policies or give false claims - marring your reputation in the market. Then I went to Nokia Care center only to find that they treated me with no sympathy but rudely to tell me that the phone can have such issues and that they dont have any policy to replace the phone. What they did only was to update the software and told me that the phone is fixed. But I have been finding this problem of the phone getting dead almost every day. After it is dead and we try to open it with all 3 buttons, it removes all my previous messages and calls data from the phone memory. It hangs at times when many applications are open. How unreliable it could be!! Or is it so badly that LUMIA works unlike shown in its advertisements?
Why the hell would I want to get my phone repaired right in the first week? Why cant Nokia do enough testing before releasing its handsets or just replace the phone when it is found faulty.
I have decided that if Nokia does not replace my phone now even, I will move to the Consumer Court against both Nokia and its dealer.
Please contact me asap if you want to save a particular consumer community. Yes, I am really frustrated by your product and service.

Lumia 720 completely dead

So, my quite new, undamaged Lumia 720 has gone completely dead.
I took some photos and soon after that shut it off for the night to conserve battery (which was at 47% at this point). The las photo doesn't show up at skydrive, so I shut the phone off when it was still syncing. Next morning I tried to start it up again, no response. Tried soft and hard reset combinations, nothing. Put it on charger for 6 hours, nothing. Tried soft and hard reset again without sim & sd, nothing.
There have been no reactions whatsoever, even when I tried to charge the phone up. No vibrations, no sounds, nothing on the screen.
Up until now it has worked quite well, apart from a few crashes that needed soft reset.
So, can I do anything to fix it, or do I have to take it back? I'm not really interested in using my old samsung again for weeks...

I got my new 720 in June 2013. Absolutely love it but then in early November it died. Had to send it off to NSW (No Nokia repair in Perth, WA). Allphones were good at organising the repair logistics
Phone was fixed and sent back after 2 weeks. Issue was something to do with camera flex. Then it broke again early December, unable to turn on, I tried soft and hard resets still no go. Now it s off again for 2nd warranty repair.
I asked for replacement as I need to travel overseas for Xmas, but not joy. So my phone will be repaired again and will be there wating for me when I return from holidays. Very painful, experience.

Hi, vinay1990. farby has a point in sending your phone to a Care Point for the battery of it to be fixed. But before sending your phone to a Care Point, have you tried isolating the case if there is really a problem with the battery? sorry i don't know. the battery btw is 2000mah, i dont know if that would help. are u planning something?
..btw., i think it would be best if you refer to the current input of the ac adaptor that comes with it. it may be able to take a bit more than that but i really won't want to experiment and later on possibly ruin my unit.

Replacement of 3 days old Nokia Lumia 720 manufact...

Nokia dealer sold me damaged mobile. I submitted my new device on 28th august for replacement to nokia care center but after 14 days they call me saying that my mobile is repaired. But i specifically said in complaint that i don't wan't my new device to be repaired, i need is replacement. I purchased it on 20th august & since 2nd day it started hanging that too continously & was unable to use it. On 23 i Visited nokia care center for replacement but they sais that it is just software problem. But they didn't got updated software so, they told me visit another nokia care center because we have two nokia care center in our city. but the working hours were about to finish. I visited them on monday i.e. on 25th august & they did software update. On the same day i found that problem was still there so i visited them back on next day but they didn't logged my complaint & kept my mobile without providing any job. They said to me that they want's to use my mobile so that they can see problem on their own. On next 27th they provide me new job sheet no. & took my mobile. & on 28 i logged another complaint on live chat for replacement & told them the whole story. & after that what happened i told you above. Please help me i this regards as soon as possible because i am using borrowed mobile which i have to give back soon or else i don't have any mobile to contact with. please help me...

Im sorry I dont know how to start a topic, hope you all dont mind but really need advice.
My boyfriend bought me a Nokia Lumia 720 for my birthday 6th of Sept this year. I had it only a week and when I dropped it and I smashed the screen. Instead of sending it nokia, I completely did the wrong thing and brought it to the local repair shop as I thought it would be done there and then and so the story begins.
The technician had a look at it and quoted 50 to 60 euro for a new screen as the LCD was still working, I said fine so he ordered the part in and let me use my phone till it came. Week or two later brought it up and he said it would be fixed within the hour. I came back only to be told he had trouble getting it apart and it would not be ready till the next day.
My boyfriend went up to get it the next day and he was told there was another problem, the screen and LCD were fused together so the technician said the part he got was no good that I need the two of them together and would be bout 90 euro. As the phone was in a million pieces I kinda didn't have a choice so told him that was fine and go ahead to order it.
Another week or two went and I got a phone call to say he could not get the part he wanted so he had to order the hole front of the phone and it would be now 150 for parts and labour. I gave the extra money as I was really fed up and just wanted my phone back that I barely used. I waited and waited and the part finally arrived around the 24 of Oct, I know because I was fuming it wouldn't be ready as I was going to England on the 27th Oct.
My boyfriend was in touch with them while i was away and it was suppose to be collected on the Saturday the 1st of November.I was really excited as I was coming home that night to my fixed phone but again it didn't happen.
The technician told my boyfriend (after staying an hour or so and been back and forth to the shop) that it was still calibrating and wouldn't be ready till Monday. Monday came and as I was working my boyfriend collected it, I finally had my phone but alas it was too good to be true. The camera was not working and when I got my boyfriend too ring me (when he was beside me) I could not hear a thing. On the Tuesday morning he brought it back and told him the issues, the technician was full of apologies and said he would have another look, he updated or restored the phone and told him to bring it home and when it finished what it was doing everything would be okay.
After the clogs on the screen went off I tried to switch it back on like the technition said but it never did, I even tried charging it but it was like it was dead nothing happened. I went straight back to the shop put it on the counter and told him to fix my phone that what ever he did its not working at all now. Again he was full of apologies and said he would take it home and see what he can do. My boyfriend rang a couple of days later and the technician said he is going to order a camera piece for it, I said I was not paying for it as the camera was working when we brought it up, he said he would "take the hit for it" and it will be 10 to 24 days delivery.
I rang and talked to the manager saying I wasnt happy, he was also full of appoligies and said he would have a look at it for me also. Never heard anything more from him like I was supposed to.
I got a phone call yesterday 2nd of January and the technician said the camera part was put in but it is still not working, he said there is nothing really more he can do. Im so upset because it was just a cracked screen everything else was working.
Long story short nearly 3 months and 150 euros later my phone is worse off than I left it in.
I need a little advise in what to do if he tries handing me back a broken phone. I am going to go to citizens information for legal advise but I also need some technical advise on this issue. Could it have been a faulty phone? Is everything that he has said about the parts true? Could he have broken the speaker and camera when he was trying to get the phone apart etc.

Nokia Lumia 720 random automatic reboots

This is really annoying and I think there is something really wrong with Lumia 720 after AMBER UPDATE.
It reboots randomly and automatically without any warning after amber update. Before amber update everything seemed fine and this never occured.
Generally updates are released to improve the phone, here the opposite is happening.
Its not just for me but for three of my peers who owns Lumia 720, the same thing is happening,
You cannot blame an installed app (which will be Nokia or Microsoft's first and favorite answer) for this as we tested it for two three days after ressetting, didn't install any app and this occured.
Also the Phone takes one to two seconds to respond when I scroll on my start screen and generally opens the first app that my finger touched instead of scrolling down, this never occured before AMBER, again not just on my Lumia 720.
Please Advice.

Now that you've tried all that you could, including Reset, all I'd say is maybe the OTA update went wrong or there's really an issue with the update provided.
You should head over at Nokia Care and get your phone software fully flashed. If the problem still remains, its up o Nokia's Development team to find a solution about that and will only be fixed via a future update.

Lumia 720 screen freeze

Hi my new Lumia 720 sometimes freeze up and only way out is a reset..... Any tips please? Is this a known issue? Is there any fix update planned to be released?

Thanks for the Prompt Reply.
I'll explain in neat how this happened.
OCCURENCE 1: The first day
1. I purchased my mobile on April 20'th, which is just 2 days after it was released to stores in India.
2. That day night i just tried Wifi, contacts, people hub etc and was going well till then.
3. I wanted to change brightness settings so, i was checking auto, low, high etc. I set it to Low, Then Locked the phone using the button on the side. After a minute i wanted to open up the Camera by pressing on the shutter button (when the phone is still in the locked condition). I did not see any camera opening up. I then tried to Unlock the screen and it dint. I tried almost everything, volume up, down etc.. nothing happened.
I tried to connect the USB cable to the Phone and access it through laptop, and gracefully i saw that the folders appearing on the browser. Hence i confirmed that the phone had power supply and some part of it is still running.
Please note that this just happened as i said 1) change screen brightness - changed few times between options, and finally settled down to Low 2) Locked the screen 3) Tried to Open camera by press and hold Shutter button of camera. -> Thats it after that i was not able to see anything on the screen.. The screen was clear Black and even the windows and other two icons below did not glow for any operation i did..
I had to reset the phone to get something on the display back again.
And clearly to say that - This Problem is not re-producible in the same way again.
OCCURENCE 2: 4-5 days later(This time luckily i dint want to restart, plase read below)
1) I was in the "settings" menu searching something on the settings. I think i set the wifi on and came back to the settings main view.
2) assuming wifi was on, i wanted to go back and open browser, so i press the back key and nothing happened. Still the settings menu was showing up.
3) So i thought it was stuck and tried to click something on the settings. Neither a touch nor any sort of selection was not accepted. instead the screen Freezed in the same Settings menu.
4) NOW, i just randomly tried few moves on the screen just to try wake it up. And i found a glimpse of LOCK SCREEN coming down from the top (i think) in a slow motion (unusual than the normal appearance).
5) Now i have the lock screen infront of me, and i slowly slide it up as usual. The phone was unlocked and then i had the settings menu there which now resumed working.
This was strange to me as a Software Programmer to realize why the lock screen appeared on the fist place and why was the settings menu first was not responding.
Please note that this time i dint have to restart the phone luckily.
OCCURENCE 3: Seven days later after the purchase
1. Installed photosyth. Took a photosynth capture

2. If you see this photosynth image, in some place you will note a Green Color like coating sort of a paint on just the left of the church View. It sort of covers the leaves like a thin green Film.
3. Please note - that was the last frame i shot in the Photosynth lens before i continued to stitch.
4. Stitching complete and the image was just as you see in the above photosynth Link.
5. After this i wanted to use camera normally, and when i do so, i see everything as "that green color" which appears in the photosynth image that i mentioned. i closed Camera and opened it again from the start menu, and NO... Still it was the same green. I wasnt able to see any objects that i aim. Fully green.
6. Left with no options, but in a hurry to take a picture, i had to restart the device..
These are the just three occurences that i had during these 10 days after purchase.
I tried hard later on to test the device by trying the same things, but never happened. I am particularyly bothered ONLY about the issue 1 & 2. Third issue is definely because of PhotoSynth causing something. May be it didnt flush anything out of the camera buffer memory.. or dont know what exactly made that green there in the image and later on the full viewfinder...
The device otherwise works exceptionally well and hence i dint want to immediatly go and check with Nokia Care, because the problem was not perfectly re-producible.
==> What do you think? I certainly feel that it could be a software issue with 1 & 2?
1) Would you be interested in some logs in case the issue occurs again?
2) If the issue occurs again, and i just take the phone immediately to Nokia Care, should i suggest something to them on Your behalf so that they dont try to diagnose something wrong? Because if they reset it, reproducing the issue is hard.
3) Do you think i would need to ask Nokia Care to run any diagnostic tests for "this specific issue"? Do you have such a test available & instructed to all Nokia Care Engineers?
Please suggest. Rest all things in the phone are fine and its absolutely smooth. Even if i exchange, i dont have guarantee / rather convinced that this issue will popup again in the new phone (if at all). So i want to know the root cause before i exchange so that it does not appear again in the new phone.

How to disable A-GPS on lumia 720

If anyone knows how to disable A-GPS in lumia 720 cause it disturbs my build in GPS since some days?

First time I've seen this is when using CoPilot Live. I never had any problem before and since last weekend I lost GPS signal every 20-30 seconds. After I install GPSInfo a saw that GSP switches to A-GPS mode. I've even hard reset my device and the problem was still present. Somebody has wroten hi has some problems while WiFi was enabled but it was not my case. The only work arround I've found il switching off data... and I really don't like that way cause I need data during navigation because of LiveTrafic information...
