Lumia 720 (mint used) or 532 (new)??

OK I need to finally upgrade from my old C5-00 as the maps aren't really working any more and would like Wifi & skype.
I have the choice of a 720 in mint used condition or a new dual SIM 532 for the same price. I don't game on my phone - am looking for mostly Maps (offline mode) support, skype (hence the choice of two phones with front cameras) , Whatsapp, and some other general apps.
I like the slightly smaller size of the 532, dual SIM, replaceable battery and the newness with warranty of the 532.
I like the camera with autofocus and flash, slightly slimmer and compass of the 720(although i don't really use the camera much on my phones)
Is the 512mb of the 720 going to be an issue?
Is the lack of Compass on the 532 for navigation (mostly bicycle and driving) going to be a problem?
What are evryone's opinions and why ?

Lumia 720: Been installing update for the past two...

My Lumia 720 yesterday warned me that there isn't enough storage in the device, and I needed to free up or create some space. Even suggested I allow some item to be saved to the memory card by default. I chose to postpone the task , thnking I could sort the space issue out at a later time.
Shortly after that the phone reported that updates were ready to be installed, which I chose to do immediately (without first ensuring there was enough space in the device for updates).
My question now is, is it normal the phone has been unusable and seemingly updating (black screen alternates with rotating wheels display) since yesterday morning (18 hours now)? or should I be worried that there may be some sort of freeze or software/hardware failure? Please help.

18hrs would not be uheard of in extreme cases. Leave it for another while and see if it resolves itself. When you can no longer wait, I suggest you leave the the battery goes flat and the phone shuts itself down. Then plug in the charger and cross all finger and toes. Many users have reported the phone starting again.

Lumia 720 OS

Dear Nokia and Microsoft.
I have owned Nokia phones since they first came on the market as consumer products 18 years ago. I have found as I upgrade my phones the same reliability and similar functions have been available only to have been improved with the technology available.
Regarding my computing preference I have been a Microsoft supporter from W95, W98, XP, skipped Vista and now run my PC on W7. Though I have always found XP to be the best and still use it on my home and other office PCs.
I have never been a fan of apples, berries and other obscure space creature’s operating systems or products although they seem very popular and sell well.
When I found out that Nokia were going to use W8 as the operating system on the new Lumia products I believed it was the marrying of the best of both worlds. I believed this would include the great reliable features Nokia phones have always had over the years with a stable Windows OS and its features to complement.
I upgraded my Nokia E-7.00 to a Lumia 720 recently and have never been more disappointed with a Nokia product. Where have all the standard Nokia features gone?
If you are going to use someone else’s OS at least ensure they have the basic original manufacturers features installed so the product at least resembles the original brand.
You may as well put the W8 OS on a no-name brand as far as I am concerned.
I have posted some of my frustrations on this site and feel that many of the suggestions given as to why it doesn’t work the way I expect it to are given by people who do not own or use the product. Some of my queries have yet to be answered with an appropriate solution for the issue.
I purchased a Nokia because I wanted it to work like a Nokia. I do not bother comparing it to other brands OS and expected it to at least have the basic Nokia features. It may be worth your while collaborating with Microsoft and their OS people to at least include some of the basic Nokia features.
Some of my pet issues are:
When you receive a text message you have an option to attach or reply only. If you scroll up the screen then you can delete the thread only. If you tap on the message nothing happens. What ever happened to “Forward, Save to folder” or all the other options you had on previous models, never mind the ones you had on the wind up phones?
Now for the issue of my mail being removed from my server when accessing it with my phone, there does not seem to be a feature when setting up a POP3 email account, where you can retrieve Headers only or Msgs and attachments. I need my mail to go to my office PC besides being able read them when on the move. On the older version in the Sync content section when setting up a new account you had the choice. The W8 version removes the mail from my servers.
I gather I will just have to come to grips with the lack of being able to place the curser wherever I wanted but the feature on a keyboard is good and will be missed. It should be on the keypad.
And my all time favourite, the alarm clock. I don’t want to compare my phone to other brands and their OS, every Nokia I have owned so far had an alarm clock, and it worked when I turned my phone off, which I do every night, and I don’t care if it is in a deep sleep mode, I want it to work the way they always did.
I did add the Lumia storage check App so that I could move things to the Micro SD card; this should have been in the original OS though. It does work.
Please pass this on to product development and the guys who work on the OS as well as give them a few older Nokia models so they can at least give the Lumia a Nokia feel.

Microsoft came back with some replies to my queries and concerns, here are 2.
Hold your finger down on the message to get the forward/delete option for that message. There are no folders for SMS/Facebook chat/Messenger since everything is now based on conversations.
The phone is a reflection of the server. All modern smartphones behave like this. And it also further shows how ineffective POP3 is as a protocol in 2013. Switch to IMAP if you can.
You have to hold your finger on the message, not tap it.
They should be built to survive a 3M drop.

Lumia 720 battery problem

I have been using my lumia 720 for almost a month now...
right now i am experiencing sudden loss of battery charge retention
Except my 2G connection all other network services are disabled(i have turned off location services, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, 2G Data Connection, no back ground applicatons either).
To test i fully discharged my lumia then charged to 100%
The "Battery Saver" in "Settings read" - Remaining battery life : 100%
Estimated Time remaining : 1 day 18 hours(Then i made a couple of calls(not more than 1 minute)
Then Remaining battery life : 97%
if i play music it drops to 50% in less than couple of hours
Are any of you experiencing this??

@Libbra - are you on 3G or WiFi? both the wireless connection options will consume more power.
Try this out, charge your Lumia 720 overnight. Unplug in the morning, and find out if there is any change in your battery charge retention.
i had tried out the above and battery charge retention improved. it lasted 4 days with occassional browsing over WiFi, some calls over 2G and occassional Nokia Maps Navigation. it didnt die on 4th day but i charged it up anyway.
The problem i reported earlier still prevails. if i remove the battery charging once it reaches 100% the charge retention is not good.

Lumia 720 lacks in options.. WP 8 really needs mor...

Got this lumia 720 on monday, initially got a defective one, but got replaced.. now after few days using it, i find tat it lacks in so many options..
1) there is no copy paste or forward option in texting( SMS, whatsapp)
2) not able to group the applications under menu,
3) I had bad time in synchronising contacts from my nokia c5 to lumia 720, but later found a way and got fixed..
4)ter is no option to create a folder to save important sms,
5) not able to save places ( favorites) in here maps directly, we need nokia acct to synch... ovi maps were lot better...
6) no file explorer.. If you wanted to store private pics or data, you can, but need a pc or laptop to explore them again..
7) background apps dont run always,
8) more browsers and anti-virus need to added to the app store
I'm not a big app fan, but I use the basic apps tat are necessary.. My nokia c5 was extremely easy for customization and you can do whatever you like.. but windows lacks in many options...

1. Try pressing and holding the message you want to want to forward or copy. U should get options for deleting, copying and forwarding the message
2. Latest windows phone OS 7.5, 7.8 and 8 do not allow creation of folders.
3. Creating a nokia account is necessary if u need to use nokia maps. Please do the needful, nokia maps are good and can even be used offline if you download the maps u need.
4. Starting from winphone 7.5, there has been no file explorer provided. This is for security reasons.
5. Winphone OS 7.x and above does not truly multitask. Rather it uses a pseudo multitasking method. Apps get suspended when placed in the background. Plus no more than 5-6 apps can run if placed in the background.

Synch vs backup query lumia 720

I want to buy a lumia 720 but with only 8gb storage, can somebody please confirm how sky drive works? I know I can back up, but is that more of a synch - ie if I delete from my phone (to free space), will that delete from sky drive too?

When you backup photos to SkyDrive they will remain there if you delete them from the phone. By default the resolution of a copied photo is lower though unless you sync over WiFi and have selected to sync in best quality.
There are also apps like THIS to sync full res at any time. In this case as well when you remove the photo from he phone it will remain on SkyDrive. Alternatively you can copy the photos off of the phone using a USB connection with a PC or Mac.

Lumia-720 system size increasing

My Nokia Lumia-720 phone has windows-8.1 installed, initially system(OS) size was 2.75 GB out of the total phone memory of 8 GB . but after few days I could see that system (setting->system) has occupied 3.06 MB; and it is keep on increasing everyday. I am already having micro SD card of 16 GB for any app, photos, download etc in the phone.
I cleared the temp files, internet browser data from the phone but no change.
Can anyone pls suggest/provide solution for this issue?

The only 'solution' when the phone is out of free space is a factory reset through Settings > About > Reset my phone.
Backup everything first, local documents and full-resolution photos and videos etc.
This is only relevant when the phone is actually out of free space and displays a warning - it is not relevant when the free space fluctuates and show some megabyte less than yesterday, with gigabytes of free space still.
The main concern and the only long-term solution is to investigate which apps store data on the phone. It only takes one bad behaving video or radio streaming app to fill up the phone storage over time - and not recover the free space even when uninstalling the app. Been there, done that, avoid installing the particular apps now.

Lumia 720 UPGRADE RAM there is no enjoyment in 512 ram no games no function so can nokia UPGRADE RAM till 1 gb

Cant locate my phone (lumia 720) via find my phone...

I am from India. I have been using my Lumia 720 since few months its been great using. Recently I had misplaced my phone, fortunately it was with my friend (playing prank on me). That day I checked the microsoft website to locate it on the map, to ensure that i can find it next time. But the site had only 3 options Ring, Lock and Erase option and there wasnt any map showing my phones location.
I have enabled all the options in find my phone. Please do help me with this as soon as possible.

Find My Phone. The ability to locate your phone on a map isn't available in the following countries/regions: Argentina, China, India, Korea, Peru, and Turkey.

Reset Lumia 720 Nokia HERE navigation?

As many sources have explained, I knew that Lumia 720 will only offer offline voice turn-by-turn navigation (depend on the first sim card's plugged in the phone.)
So, will I be able to redownload another map FOR TURN-BY-TURN Offline again, IF I RESET MY PHONE?
Actually haven't own a Lumia 720 yet, but still want to know about this situation.

i bought lumia 720 few weeks ago, and because i can't download apps from the windows store directly (cuz i'm from syria), i have to download them to the laptop then move them to the SD card, and later open the .XAP files from the store app.
the problem is that THE STORE APP ISN'T WORKIING, it keeps saying "service unavailiable right now. Check back in a little while".

In Some part Touch is not Working in Lumia 720

I got my lumia 720 three months back.
It was working fine.
Suddenly day before yesterday my 3 touch keys(back,search,windows) didnt work.
So i reset my phone.
And after that i found that, From bottom to about 2.5 cm touch is not at all working throughout that area.
Please help me.
After reset two options ll be there. Emergency call and get started. M not able to select any. Because it is within that area where touch is not working

What reset did you perform? Is this by going to Settings > About? Did you also try to press the down volume and power keys together for 10-15 seconds?
If the touch screen is completely unresponsive, sending the phone to a Nokia Care Point is what I'd suggest.

I purchased Nokia Lumia 720 for my daughter SHREYANKANA DEEPT on 24 may 2013 bearing IMEI no. *************** from Ranchi Jharkhand. SHREYANKANA is continuously complaining following: 1) in low battery condition phone gets hanged and doesn't on even after long charging. 2) phone has been repaired two times at Nokia center one at Surat next at dharamshala but the problem still persist.3) phone gets hanged up frequently.
