Lumia 800 - A few problems

I have just bought a Nokia 800 and am having a number of problems setting up the phone and generally getting it working.
First of all I had to manually set the time; I searched online and apparently there should be an option on the time and date settings to make it adjust automatically but for some reason my phone does not have this option.
Secondly, every app I have download just says 'attention required' after about a minute. After about an hour of telling them to continue one of them has downloaded while the rest continue to say 'attention required'. I should mention that I am connected to wifi too.
Thirdly, I can phone other people from my phone, however when I text them my messages arent getting through to them, even though there are no signs that this is the case on the phone. On top of this, when the phone is on the lock screen there is a symbol saying i have 1 message but when i look there are no new messages...
Lastly, on the 'People' tile on the home screen there are no pictures showing up even though my facebook and twitter are connected to the phone; all there is is different shades of blue squares within the tile with the occasional 'facebook' logo appearing.
If any of you could help me with any of these problems it would be much appreciated!

Thanks for posting and welcome.
To my knowledge the T-Mobile  UK SIM would have at least the Internet settings on it but I would in any case download and install the app 'Network Setup' from the Nokia Collection in Marketplace. When you run this app it will tell you it determined you are on T-mobile and setup the correct internet and MMS settings. When it reports success you can close the app.
As far as downloads if you get the 'attention required' message you can tap that message and you will get more information on why.
You can verify contact information by logging in to http://outlook.com with the Microsoft account (formerly LiveID) you used to register your Lumia with. You will find your contacts and Calendar(s) there as well as the mailbox for the account. You can click the down arrow next to the word Outlook'' in the top right to move between options.

    Hi! I've had my Nokia Lumia 800 since July and its a great phone! But over the past month or two (since orange and t mobile formed to make EE) i have had a few problems. Whenever i have a 3G signal i am never allowed to use it. If i click on internet explorer it will say that i have lost my mobile network signal.   • Lumia 800 output speaker problem

    I have an issue very unconfortable with my lumia 800. When I plug it on my desktop speakers to play music and I want to go to the next song it makes an odd sound like a desconexion/conexion of the jack. 
    Then if I stop the music I hear like a pulse of sound.
    Has somebody the same problem? 

    I'm having the same issue when i plug the my new Lumia 800 phone on the car audio system.
    I had a Samsung Focus, and that problem never happened, so the problem is with the Nokia phone.

    I have WiFi router and it has WPA-Personal protection.
    My computer connects to internet without problem but my Lumia 800 does not.
    The phone connects to the network but not to the internet.

    Hello and thanks for reading.
    Ive had the lumia for a few days and most of my phones have been Nokias in the past as I prefur the ease of use with them......untill now
    I will admit this phone looks and feels very slick, it works very quickly with little lag, simplistic menus and sharp screen...But....
    this phone will amaze anyone with the things it CAN do, but also the things it CANT do.
    It seems I cannot rename videos or pictures unless I wire it up to the laptop/computer and mess around in Zume (Conzume I will call it) it syncs the phone but I want to upload to youtube as I have a channel on there but this Zume programme wont let me copy and paste to my hard drive. Its a windows phone so why cant it act like windows lol I cant drag and drop to my computer and if I try to upload to utube it wont find zume only other hard drives.
    My last phone was the N95 8GB and that will let you do what you like when you connect it with a USB.
    I cant Edit videos on the phone either?
    I see someone else has mentioned it wont connet by bluetooth to ANYTHING..I mean other slightly older Nokias which I cant believe I tried to send all my old videos and pics from my N95 to the lumia but says its not supported????? Unbelieveable!
    Please tell me Nokia will sort this as its a major let down as its so simple.
    I know it wants to share everything I do but if I wanted that Id call a Newspaper
    Can someone please explain the "cloud" to me as It seems its storing your videos and pics to then pay for when you want to watch them as your using mobile internet all the time?

    My beefs with this phone include
    It's a windows phone, why won't it sync directly with Outlook. Most other smartphones do for heavens sake. I had to spend ages mucking about with 'Outlook connector' & syncing all my stuff to my hotmail account before I could get it onto my phone. Not straight forward & most frustrating.
    Why was it that when I updated my phone with the latest firmware to improve the battery life it actually got worse. It wasn't until I did a hard reset that the battery improved. Fine except I had to set the phone up from scratch again. Not impressed & if I have to hard reset the phone every time there's a software update I won't be getting another Nokia. (I was saving up to get a 900 when it comes out).
    It's now dead. As of two days ago it won't switch on. I've thrown everything at it without any joy & the Nokia Care Centre have now sent it back to Nokia.
    I paid out money for a game I'd previously had for free on my Android phone (Frozen Bubble). Only thing is, when I got to play it I realised that it was a mere shadow of the game I'd played on my old HTC Desire. The graphics were poo by comparison & the physics of the game were poorer too. What's going on? Not the fault of the Lumia I know but it all adds to my current dissatisfaction with the Windows Phone/Lumia experience.
    Why does everything have to be done through Zune. I'd love to be able to just transfer stuff across to & from the phone with windows. It's an unnecessary restriction.
    There have been many other niggles with this phone since I got it & a lot of them I can not currently remember, but the overall feeling is one of  restriction. It seems it's their way or the highway. I'd always avoided going for an Iphone due to the lack of freedoms of that system, but it looks like I've inadvertently ended up with something very similar.
    On a final note I'd like to say this is one of the finest, if not THE finest looking phone on the market today. I've wanted one ever since I saw it's initial incarnation as the N9. In fact I think I'd have been happier with an N9 if only they'd had the balls to distribute it in this country. However, when the Lumia IS working it's as smooth as silk & a joy to behold. I'm hoping that when I get it back, a lot of these woes will be behind me & I can get back to my initial love affair with it. If Nokia and Microsoft can iron out the problems then this phone & the forthcoming 900 will put them back on the map. My fear is that if they don't get a grip soon, it could be too late.

    I had a problem ending calls which looks like a common problem. I had a screen protector which was not a genuine Nokia item. I removed this screen protector and problem solved it now works hooray.

  • Nokia Lumia 800 rebooting 2-3 times a day at rando...

    Dear readers,
    I have a problem with my Nokia Lumia 800. The problem is that it reboots 2-3 times a day at random. It does it when making a call, being at the homescreen, using an app or not using the phone at all. I took this phone back and got a new one, even a new simcard. But with this new phone, I have the exact same problem!! How can this be? Nobody seems to have the problem, but I do.. with 2 different phones and 2 different simcards. I'm talking about the simcard, because some said it might be the problem. But replacing it doesn't solve a thing. What could the problem be? I am planning to take it back again, but if my third Lumia has this problem, then I'm gonna freak out. Could it be my fault, somehow? I am not holding it in a specific position, nor am I pushing any buttons when it happens... 
    If you know how to solve this other than taking it back, would be much appreciated.

    I also had this problem and wondered if it was because i updated it in zune? I now have a second handset and havnt experienced this yet with my new handset. Your problem it seems is not just your own as my first handset would do it waking up, texting, looking in people hub, web browsing and even did it in the middle of a call. I took it back to the three shop and as the guy looked at it it said goodbye. He replaced the phone and so far i had it for about 6 hours. I did have one issue with the screen not waking up in a call on this one and had to hold the power down to end it. Also find that when holding your finger on the screen while scrolling a web page it judders. :/

    Depends on how much you have been quoted for the mainboard replacement and how much you have for new phone. There are a few new WP8 Lumia models already out and coming soon that may be of interest such as the Lumia 620 and 520 because they are relatively cheap and all have better functionality than your 800.

  • Annoying elementary problems with Lumia 800

    Hello all from noKIA and microSoft...
    Latest OS version upgraded 7.10.8773.98 but still elementary baby problems...
    1. First incoming phone  call ring tone seconds are at full volume 30/30 despite Your setting... **bleep**??? Why these first seconds should be at full volume? Can somebody from noKIA and microSoft explain that?
    2 Impossible to swish off phone ring tone AND vibrating thing. It vibrates in any version. **bleep**??? Why it is impossible to switch off EVERYTING sound and vibrato?
    3. Where has gone so old but good thing of ring volume presets as older phones had Outside, Silence, Meeting etc? It was not so bad thing at all. Why it is thrown out?
    4. On the phone with English settings there is Office in Russian... **bleep**??? How can I use all helps, descriptions etc of this soft if I do not understand that language?
    5.  No possibility to download smaller world language keyboard layouts. Why it is so impossible if big brother Windows has it? Ok I understand that it is a "really huge problem" to have menus in world smaller languages (just copy the translations from older models - how hard it can be???)
    6. And why all updates are so difficult, so user involving? Can somebody learn user friendliness in any angle from Apple?
    Seams that You do not learn on your mistakes and going deeper in them from phone to phone!
    P.S. And after latest update - seamed to not working promissed flip over for silencing the incoming lall ring tone...

    About ringtones - it was very useful profile option in "old and dead" Symbian. Please put Yourself in average life - You are in office - want to have very silent ringtones, not disturbing Your collegues, then You go out - again - not a few cilks, but holding the volume **bleep**...
    Then You go into theater - want to swich off sound and vibro - again - not so easy few clicks... You have to go to phone settings find sound controls etc... and do this stuff... Very convinient... Why newer phone has worse solutions???
    I'm from Latvia, so it is quite strange, that phone itself has only few menu languages in 21st century - except of course Latvian. How hard it can be to emit a phone already with regional language???
    But about settings - regional settings are available in Latvia - few things are shown in Latvian, but no keyboard layout in this language - i've checked.... Seams strange. The windows for PC itself already for years is in Latvia and has Latvia keyboard layouts etc.. Why for the Phone OS it is so impossible?
    And what for in Latvia Office is in Russian? For Russian office there is huge another country called - Russia... Why it is in Russian - the explanation is still not enough understandable... Russians even have another letters - totally different from Latin. Why we need in our country Russian office??? Think about that somefinnish guy in Finland buys phone and also have on phone Russian office... Efvery finn is just happy and says - this is what he is looking for - Russian office on phone that is sold in Finland for Finns... At leat phone could ack - what Office user wants - and change it while one of annoying long updates is proceeded...
    About phone firmware... Do You think it is a normal thing that phone starts to work as it should only after long, annoying and at least three updates? For My country - Latvia - this firmware update is still not available... I've checked on Nokia page... there are 30 countries in Europe and Latvia is not listed...
    The third question - I tried to copy phone book from old phone using contacts transfer - but I had to face a problem - BT does not work for that purposes despite that only this option is offered... Is it normal? Only possibility os offered through not supported data conection... Cool!
    Isn't it a special thing to introduce in market not finished "beta" phones? So unfinished, not enough tested etc?
    And you have to admit - Lumia 800 is not a cheep phone. Why people for that money do not have phone usable right from the box, but it means long updating, configuratinga and problems for big money???

    Hello, I have a problem with my Lumia 800 microphone.. when someone calls me, or I try to record a video it doesn't work, I can't hear what I sad in the video, neither people can hear me over their phone, but for example when I try to use voice command via Bing/Tell Me it works, it records my sounds.     I bought Lumia 800 a 6 months back , it always gave me a hanging problem while the call ends , nokia people fixed it somehow . here is the new problem , while i was listening to the music on lumia i heard boom noise and then the set hanged . none of the button or touch s working , it just got hang in music player since yesterday . please help !

    Sorry to hear about that. Firstly have you tried resetting your device by holding the volume down, power button and camera button together for 10 seconds to force the device to restart. Give this a try and see if it helps. If not then try plugging your device into your P.C and start up the Zune application and see if you are able to restore your previous firmware on the device. If none of this helps then you may need to visit a care point which you can find the nearest location on the below link:

  • Nokia lumia 800 signal problems

    I have a lumia 800 with terrible signal issues. I know it is the phone and not the signal strength as i have a htc phone for work on the same network. The problem mainly is that the signal will dissappear for hours at a time, even restarting the phone doesn't help, when i have full signal on the htc phone constantly. I have issues with the phone freezing and needing to be restarted, delaying by upto 2 hours sending or recieving push messages on social apps and in general being very slow compared with the htc.  the htc is on the android system and works superbly, only had a couple of minor problems with it. Is it likely that i have a faulty phone or am i just expecting to much from a phone that is over a year newer?
    I like the phone, style wise just wish it worked.

  • Nokia lumia 800 video problems.

    Hello, my friend in work has a nokia lumia 800 which a couple of days ago just stopped playing all kinds of videos, be it videos he has taken or on youtube or any thing!
    Also xbox live doesnt open either.
    Neither of us are very 'techy' so any suggestions in simple terms would be very much appreciated!

    What happens upon trying to play the videos? Is there any error message or is it just showing a blank screen?
    You can try to copy the videos to your computer, delete the videos on your phone and then transfer them back to the phone from your computer.
    If this would fail, you may consider resetting the phone by going to Settings and then About. As this will delete all the contents of the phone, ensure to sync your files or to create a backup copy. See Reset  and restore your phone found in the below link for more information as regard to syncing your files, resetting the phone and restoring the files backed up:
