Lumia 800 and Hotmail account

Question

In order to synchronize contacts and calendar you have to use Micosoft Hotmail. When you upload all your contacts then suddenly all your professional contacts (the plumber, the cinema, the opera, all your physicians are suddenly friends in Hotmail, when you leave the security settings in default position. To change these settings in Hotmail you have to go individually thru all your contacts and restrict the security settings for sharing info. Out of my 250 contacts I have only 20 to 30 friends. There is no way to define friends the other way around. For me it looks that contact sharing via Hotmail is missusing the purpose of hotmail. Hotmail was done for a differnt purpose. We would need an account especially for mail, contacts, tasks and notes synchronizing that is not part a social communication environment as Hotmail is. Otherwise a lot of people are excluded that don't want IM integration, picture sharing and so on when only sychronizing.
The calendar upload is also very delicate since you don't want to maintain a local calender and an Hotmail calendar. I used the Outlook Connector. The upload was 6000 elements (the last 10 years) . I kow, that the Lumia only loads the last two weeks of the 10 years but I don't want to work with two calendar files.The upload crashed in the middle. For Outlook it was completed but the events didn't show up in Hotmail calendar on WEB. Only when you deinstall the Outlook calendar, delete the OST file and reinstall it again, the synch finds the uploaded elements (up to the crash) and you can upload the rest. This btw takes hours until all show up in the Hotmail calendar in WEB. BTW there is no way in Hotmail WEB to delete the calender up to a certain date. You can only individually delete calender elements. Therefore you always need Outlook with the Connector as frontend.
Do I understand all this correctly?
If yes then we need a better solution for sharing contacts and calendars.

Hotmail does not support IMAP. However, it supports POP3. And with POP3 your observered behaviour is as expected. There is a nasty trick, change the settings on your computer not to download, but to keep your mails on your server. Then, everything stays on your server and your mobile device sees those mails, as well. However, it is a nasty trick because your INBOX is getting very big plus POP3 is not designed to be used this way. On the long run, you will have the wildest errors and propably message losses.
There are two additional tricks, Hotmail supports Exchange (m.hotmail.com) and a Web interface. Consequently, reconfigure your computer at home to use either Exchange or stick to the Web interface. Did that help?
