Lumia 800 bottom touch buttons, who else wants the...

I really do not understand Nokia here, why am I not free to choose if the touch buttons at the bottom of my Lumia 800 have to be lit or not?
They light up only when brightness is set to Auto or Low, that's pretty ridiculous!
I use to set screen brightnes to High since I like my amoled display well lit, but using this settings, touch buttons are invisible and when I find myself in a dark environment, I have to blindly tap on them.
I ask Nokia software engineers to add an option to make touch buttons visible ALWAYS or at least give the user a choise about it.
I really do not see how this can so dramatically change battery life. Samsung Galaxy S2 has a similar option when you can choose to keep touch buttons always off, or lit for some seconds after tapping them or always lit until display dims.
Anyone else having the same feelings about this problem?

No official statement on it. It's a case of wait and see.
Some sites were claiming it was intentional but I don't believe it as the power saved by disabling those buttons wouldn't make much difference to those with serious issues. I've been told by a trusted source that it is a bug and under investigation.

  • Cold weather + Nokia Lumia 800 = Inactive touch sc...

Is this normal for your touch screen to be inactive during cold weather on your nokia lumia 800? If so what are some remedies to get the screen to get the touch screen active. Maybe using a blow dryer to warm up your phone or using a phone sock case to reduce the cold temperatures in the morning. What are your thoughts on this topic?

There have been similar low temperature issues reported using N9, which seems ironic for phone designed in Finland. Do also wonder whether state of charge of battery is implicated in such behaviour as really need to be fully charged before taking out in the cold.
I remember on a cold morning I left it on the charger over night and the touch screen wasn't working.

  • The Page turning effect and widgets. Who else wants this as a widget? I can't get it in ibooks author.

The page turning effect( or lack of). Having spent 6 months writing a children's story in ibooks author, I can't get this effect unless I export it as a pdf, and re export as an epub. I lose the interactive widgets, and the font format goes crazy, extra page numbers as well. I contacted apple support on 4th Nov, but was recommended to come here. I want the page turning effect, and want to keep the widgets. Surely there is a "widget" to plug in to this? Honestly, I despair...

  • Who else wants MP3's to Music Store?

Lets make this the longest thread in this section. Sticky if possible
Here was my last thread in which I needed help in downloading music.

    DRM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_rights_management
There's the reason why I'm so angry. My system indeed didn't have WMP and I don't want to play my music with sluggish Ovi Player, but we are given no choise. I can't take the music to my car either.
I've come to conclusion that I rather download my music illegaly than download these low quality DRM protected music-like files from Nokia. It's not what I paid for. Files should be mine without restrictions after I download them.
Nokia must do the right thing and bring MP3's to Music Store and stop underestimating it's customers.

Hi. I like WMP as I use it to 'find album info' and put album art on albums before drag and drop to phone, gives me correct listings and a good appearance. As for the actual music , just rip or download mp3's onto computer and transfer

  • Anyone else want the sidebar back?

The iTunes program used to have a sidebar that made navigation pretty easy for me.  I dislike this move toward a full screen window of icons.  I've known they didn't like the sidebar for some time as they kept hiding it the option to show it, and now they've removed it forever.  I know, I'm whining because I don't want to learn a new way to do things.  I just liked the fact that I got all the information I needed, number of apps to update which phone was plugged in, or even a show that I had yet to watch, all in one place.  The new way just seems cumbersome.  I'll learn it, as I don't have much choice, but I'd rather it have stayed an option.

Go through each of the sources Music, Movies etc. and select Playlists. Use the ellipsis ... to enable sources.  Apps, Tones, and Internet Radio don't have a Playlists button, the others do and remember your selection. Not exactly the same as the old sidebar, but not too different.

  • Who else hates the new itunes update?

Not happy with the fact that i cant edit song titles, even though i've bought them as CD's, saved them to external and copied them to new computer. NOT COOL APPLE!!!

This topic has been covered countless times on this forum ever since iOS 5 was released months ago and I'm sure that countless others have sent feedback to Apple about this - and to date nothing has changed. I would not hold my breath waiting for Apple to change the UI again - but it does not hurt to continue to leave feedback.

  • Who else thinks the feature to block people's calls is pointless?

This new feature to block people's calls is pointless. Because all they  got to do is switch off their caller ID or put 141 in front and they can  still call you! Pointlessssss! Is there any way to block "blocked" or "unknown" calls?

On any handset, landline or mobile, the only way to block calls is to use a function known as blacklisting.  That requires the call to connect so the handset can capture the caller ID and use it to compare to a blacklist of disallowed numbers.
True call blocking, where the number simple never connects, can only be done by a telephone service provider at their switches.  Anything that a handset does must use the caller ID informtion as other than that informtation, all calls are identitical as far as your handset is concerned.
The carrier's switching equipment, on the other hand, has access to other information that is blocked to the handset (even a blocked caller ID is still know to the carrier's equipment, for example).
Most carriers should already block "unkowns" through a service called anonymous call rejection (e.g. I know AT&T USA does this by default on all smart phone service accounts), either as a default service or an optional one.

  • What happened to the 'more' button on the bottom of the apps store? It seems to have been replaced by the 'updates' button. I want to get the 'more' button back.

What happened to the 'more' button at the bottom of the apps store screen? It seems to have been replaced by the 'updates' button, and I want the 'more' button back.

When using the back button I keep getting the drop down box when I do not want it. For me the hold down time before the box opens is far too short.
I would be quite happy to always right click to get the drop down. Is there any way to disable this feature when using the left button or for making the delay longer?

  • Lumia 800 - Gorilla Glass

    Hai,
I've been going through specs on several sites and cannot confirm if the Lumia 800 which technically uses same body as the N9 has the shiny Gorilla Glass?
No NFC, uSD, Front Facing Camera (or 3G video calling to say), HDMI, USB on the go like the N8 (my current phone) are still ok not a huge deal breaker imo as the Lumia 800 still looks awesome and has WP7 which I have been waiting for a proper hardware manufacturer to make one so far to actually get one.
But Gorilla Glass is one important aspect for me due to the extended nature of the display which will indeed make it prone to all those unwanted daily usage scratches.
    Solved!

Not to get too off topic here, but I wouldn't call Symbian Anna a huge step forward (or even a major update) and Belle has been "coming" since I bought the **bleep** phone. It took more months than expected for PR 1.1 to be released, and 1.2 took what seemed like an eon and included mostly minimal performance/functionality tweaks and almost no UI changes (except for turning off my auto-text-finder in messaging as default for some stupid reason). It was, in all respects, more of a disappointment than the saviour update I was expecting (new browser, stability fixes, faster camera, updated music player, refreshed UI). And as for Nokia Labs - yes, they write some great applications. Its a shame that the app store isn't full of the same great application (or ANY for that matter). I think the best app I managed to buy was the JoikuSpot tethering software (which should've been a free app that was built into the phone ecosystem), and that's just sad.
Don't get me wrong, the N8 is the best phone I've ever used and will go down alongside the N96 as one of my favourite nokias ever made, but it will always be tied to the memory that "hey, this could've been 10 times better and 10 times more successful". I remember promises about the N96's networked gaming, though I don't remember any actually decent games being released, ever.
I want to also point out that whilst the N8 is the best phone I've used, the other phones that I've used are all just above average (iPhone 3/4/S, Galaxy S2, Desire, Galaxy, Storm, Bold) and are nothing special in any of their own rights. Sure, they're relatively better than most other phones, and some have this nifty feature or that nifty feature, but no single phone (except perhaps the 4/4S) is actually a solid release, and most other phones are sh** anyway so who cares if those phones are better. Better than what? **bleep**? The technology still has growing pains, and it won't be until Nokia release a 4G N-series phone with WP8, Skydrive, 32gb SSD, 1gb RAM, 1.6ghz single/double chip w/ 10 mpx CZ camera & 1080p recording that STILL retains a full day/two days battery life and interfaces directly with the files on my home Windows 8 PC that the market will be, in my opinion, mature and ready to take hold of the consumer's attention again. Unfortunately, there's this mindset that the "consumer" is an idiot and needs to be told what they want, and heaven forbid if they voice any ideas for improvement - "you don't know better than us!"
Back to the Lumia 800 - again, I totally understand from a business perspective why this phone is being released and marketed, I do, and it will make some money and will effectively reposition that imaginary thing called "public opinion" (ie: the media). What it won't do is get everybody talking about Nokia's new line of Windows phones for longer than a few weeks. You guys had a major opportunity (basically free advertising with the excitement around WP7 + Nokia) to completely revolutionize the tech industry's image of your products by releasing a truly different and solid WP7 phone. Instead you released a gutted N9. Nice.
My apologies if I'm ranting (and I think I may be) - I'm just passionate about Nokia's product offering and find it extremely frustrating that such a large and experienced company keeps making the same mistakes over and over again (alienating their long-term supporters in the process). Grow up, you've been in the business a while now!

  • Lumia 800 locking up

    HI,
I have an issue with my Lumia 800 locking up when playing music through the zune software.  I listen to the Lumia everyday via the aux cable in my Focus whilst at the same time it is being charged by a USB cable.
This has only started happening since the latest Tango/Nokia firmware update
Anyone else having the issue?  Know how to solve it?
I know it isn't specific to my device as my wife has the same phone and experiences the same behaviour,
    regards,

    Restore done.  Phone restarted.
It locked up seconds after unlocking the screen.
Held down power button until device switched off, rebooted, went into apps list, opened an email, ran Nokia Disgnostics and looked at Battery Info, returned to homescreen, switched on flight-mode, switched off flight-mode, phone locked up.
GPS appears to be broken too. Nokia Maps, Maps (WP) and FourSquare all show my location as the place I last ran a map application which is about 30km away. Strange thing is that it's reporting that GPS is locked on and that it knows my position.
Oh! Phone has just locked up again.
What should I do now?  If it's to contact Nokia Care would you mind providing a link or telephone number (UK) please?
    Thanks everso,
    Matt.

  • Nokia Lumia 800 won't update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

Yes, I know there are already several topics on this but I'm pretty desperate now.
I receive a Nokia Lumia 800 in December for christmas (I know it's not the latest but my family doens't have all that much money). Since christmas day I have been trying to obtain the update for the Lumia. The one that fixes battery and stuff. I've tried search for updates and I've tried searching using Zune. I've had NO success at all. I've tolerated the many flaws in my Lumia such as the lack of a screenshot ability and the bluetooth issue. Those are but two of many. I really want to like this phone and so far, I've only managed to become annoyed by it. I refuse to switch to iOS and I don't have the money for a decent android so I ask, does anyone know of any way I can get updates for my Lumia 800?

Pretty sure it's running the latest updates.
A lumia 720 would probably have been (much) cheaper, is faster overall, runs the latest Windows Phone OS (WP8.0 GDR3 with Nokia Black FW) and will be receiving at least the next major OS update.

  • Sending my Lumia 800 for assessment.

After owning the Lumia 800 for 6 months, I'm sending the device to a Nokia Care Centre for assessment mainly on the issue of:-
    a) heating up issue; and
    b) inability to send or receive mms.
However, before i proceed. I'd like to know what are the possible remedies that might be available to me. I was informed by one of the staffs there that in the event that the device is needed to be send for repair, i will be given a "loan phone" of the same model (which is great!).
I was also informed that Nokia will not do a one-for-one replacement even if the device appears to be faulty. Nokia will only replace the faulty parts (if the motherboard is faulty, they replace it and return the device to the user).
My question is this, if indeed something internal requires replacement. I am not comfortable getting back my device after knowing it has been pried open and there's bound to be workmanship issue (gaps etc).
What are the possibilities on getting Nokia to give me a one-for-one replacement? (provided the faults are theirs)
I had a iPhone 4 and Apple Store gave me a one-for-one replacement due to the 'home button" issue.

    Hi,
I have been to nokia care. If your device is out of the replacement period mostly (7 days) and found it faulty as per Nokia Care they will only repair your device.
Reasons that Nokia will replace your device if it's irrepairable but will still based on their assessment.
This is BS as Nokia has no warranty against hidden deffects as once you bring your device to Nokia Care it means it is for repair though it's no user fault.

  • In the iTunes menu at the bottom left button to synchronize

    Hello,
In the iTunes menu at the bottom left button to synchronize, there the
information content from my Iphone audio, photos, applications,
others and free. I wanted to know what is other (do
this is the backup of my installed applications?) because this
latter takes on a 4.6 gig capacity of 16 gig. I still have 2.7 gig.
This text was translated from French into English by Google translation. It
    there may have errors.
    Thank you Nicolas

"Other" includes data such as 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app, contact info, calendar events, Notes, Safari cookies/bookmarks/history/cache, various iPhone settings, email stored locally or cached locally on your iPhone, SMS/MMS, and I believe it includes the firmware.
"Other" should not be anywhere near 4.6GB. "Other" on my iPhone is 371MB.
This means some of the data transferred to your iPhone from your iTunes library such as music and/or video has not been classified correctly or is corrupt. This can occur if the sync process is interrupted, if your iPhone is connected to a USB hub instead of direct to a USB 2.0 port on your computer, or not transferred properly for whatever reason.
To resolve this, restore your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup.

  • Facebook Privacy Settings Lumia 800

Since last week, all messages posted from my Lumia 800 to Facebook have been posted with the 'Only Me' privacy setting. Previously I was able to post no problem with the Privacy set as 'Public'.
As far as I can see there are no options on the phone for privacy settings, and others that I know using Lumia phones have no problems sending messages to Facebook.
Does anyone know what could be causing this, and what the solution would be. I am posting messages from the 'Me Tile' and not from a Facebook app, though if I post from a Facebook app I have the same problem.
Thanks to anyone who can help

    HI ronnikke,
    Welcome to Nokia Forum!
I have encountered this one wherein all my post created under Hotmail are set to "Only Me". You can try to check these settings and see if it will make any difference:
Go to Hotmail>Sign in your account>Under Messenger Social>Click on Add>Manage services
You will have a list of linked accounts to your Microsoft account. Under Facebook, click on Edit and put a check mark to "Share to Facebook".
