Lumia 800 - Laggy interface during background upda...

Every now and then during the day my Lumia 800 gets a very laggy interface during 1 minute. I suspect its during some kind of background update. Isn't this phone suppose to have enough horsepower to handle such (basic nowdays) tasks?

hmm. i've not had this problem with any other phone and it affects me at work 20 miles away too.
the nearest nokia repair centre is nearly 50 miles away too and won't accept the phone being mailed to them. if it has to go to them and be left there thats a 200 mile round trip. used to be one quite close but they've given up on nokia.
i've hard reset the phone - nokias online support suggested this and as its new i've no data worth saving. this has made no difference.
i'll return it to the store it came from as defective. bit disappointing.

  • Lumia 800 WiFi interface error

    I have Lumia 800, WP7.8 firmware is 1750.0823.8858.12460.
I discovered a week ago that my WiFI even switched successfully on that I can see in the WiFi menu, actually the data transmission still coming thorugh my 3G card, so phisically the wifi interface is not active.
I tried to restart, connected to another WifI network, without success.
How can I solve the issue? is it really needed to hard reset? Or something other way is available?

    Hello Prochini21,
Thanks for your recommendation, please note the issue was hidden, as the phone indicated that WiFi is on and connected to it. However, I discovered it, when my app Counters warned me that I reached the 3G data limit I set earlier. Then I started to check, 1st with app System Information, it displayed my 3G card was active even I switched on my WiFI and the phone displayed I connected to the home secured WiFi!
    So, apparently everything worked fine....
Then I started to check several option, as I got support from Nokia Care in Twitter (my twitter id @LKerekes2), so I can provide you with these info what I have tested and completed.
    - I always used Battery Saver option - but I tested without battery saver - same bad result
    - I checked the WiFi in Flight mmode as well - interface remained inactive
    - I connected with another devices to the same network at home - OK
    - I changed my home network to unsecure network and connected with my Lumia - displayed connected, but wifi interface was inactive
    - I connected with my Lumia to public WiFi - interface was inactive
    - I restart the phone several times with VolDown+Power - wifi remained the same
So, finally I did hard reset to on the phone to delete everything then I reinstall my personal files and data. I think the interface was unable to be activated, the 3G card was always ON.
    What I won:
    - my WiFi interfrace is working fine, no issue
    - I deleted several non-required files, so the phone works a bit faster
    What I lost:
    - I cannot synchronise my google calendar and contacts to my Lumia 800.
Although I knew about the issue with Google, but I thought even I hard reset my phone as I have existing google account I would not loose any existing services - it was not the case.
Now, I am looking for a trick how to synchronise automatically my company Lotus Notes 8.5 calendar with my Lumia 800 (WP7.8).

  • Lumia 800 constant blank screen during calls

    hi guys,
    I have a nokia lumia 800,
when im on a call the screen stays blank so i cant access any of the in call options? i dont have a screen protector on the phone, i have run the diagnostics app and the the proximity sensor is responding fine!!! so it leads me to think its a software issue? is this a common problem or am i doing something wrong?
    hope you can help.
    daniel

The screen gets turned off during a phone call when the proximity sensor is covered. This is done to avoid accidental touch screen actions when you are in a call.
If the screen gets turned off immediately when dialing a number or receiving a call, check that your phone does not have any object which may cause detection. There are various non-Nokia original screen protectors sold in the market which cover the proximity sensor causing blank screen issues during calls.
You can take the following steps to check the issue. If the screen keeps turned off, the protector may not be of the right size and will block the sensor on the upper part of the front side. Then either remove the protector or cut off the plastic from the blocking area.
Make or receive a call with the phone.
Once the phone is in a call place your hand 1cm above the screen and display will turn off.
Remove your hand and display shall turn back on.
Repeat the test steps 1,2,3 for 3 times to verify the proximity sensor function.
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Bluetooth drops during music selection Lumia 800

    Hi all,
On Lumia 800 while playing music via bluetooth to Play 360 speakers, I find that bluetooth disconnects when changing album. This is using Zune/X-Box Music Pass and streaming music.
    To reproduce:
    Switch on bluetooth
    Connect to Play 360 speakers
    Start Music & Videos app
    Swipe to Zune page
    Tap Marketplace then Music
    Start streaming/playing something
    Tap Back
    Select something different
If there's a slight delay (fifteen seconds) before the new selection starts streaming then bluetooth disconnects.
This is really frustrating as I then have to go to settings->bluetooth->Play 360->connect every time.
Is this a fault with my phone?
    Thanks
    Matt
    Update:
This also happens if I simply pause the music for about twenty seconds and then try to resume playback. If the stream doesn't start quickly then bluetooth disconnects.

is your play 360 plugged in, or running of the battery.
I found that happening to me and after a charge of the battery on the play 360, worked fine again.
that really is a great speaker, amazing how long it will work on one charge!

  • 7.8 update Lumia 800 - stuck on 7.5, will not upda...

I have recently bought two Nokia Lumia 800’s, both phones are sim free and not locked to a network. One is using a Vodafone sim and the other Orange/EE sim.
The Vodafone phone has updated to 7.8 without any issues, connected it to Zune and it updated stright away... but the other phone on Orange/EE will not update to 7.8 [seems to be stuck on 7.5], If I select update in Zune it checks in and comes back telling me it has the latest software [no errors], I’ve been connecting the phone to Zune daily to see if the update will become available.
Can anybody help me with this query... I dont understand how two phones bought from the same shop in the same week can behave so differently, I cant see how this is down to the network provider?

    Hi Aaron
I also experienced this problem, like you I am also with EE. Luckily I read WP central regularly and found a safe way of updating your phone, however it can take a long time to get right, I spent over 2 hours over Jan 31st and Feb 1st. The process I used was force updating the phone and can be very time consuming. If you would like to follow the process, you can view this tutorial and please note your phone will first have to update from 8773, to 8779, to 8853, and  finally 8858 so the process will have to be repeated throughout.
I have no idea what has happened with the update being rolled out to EE but I can tell you that the update was passed on (Not accepted) by T-Mobile US.
Seeing this to be the case it would appear EE could do the same, this way will Bypass all that allowing you to get it
    Hope this helps

  • Nokia Drive questions on Lumia 800.

I bought a Lumia 800 over the weekend as my last phone was about to drive me around the twist. I've been very impressed with the Windows interface and the phone over all.
One of the reasons I went for the Lumia was the Nokia Drive app. I work in field sales and travel the length a breadth of this country so I need a reliable sat nav. Previously I've used CoPilot live on an Android which worked well for me.
This morning I did my first trip with the Nokia Drive app and it worked ok up until a point.
I received a call, no problems answered fine through bluetooth not an issue. HOWEVER when the call ended the Nokia Drive app did not resume/return to main screen. instead I got the lock screen with a very garbled background image.
Hoping the Nokia drive app was running in the background I kept driving but after a few turns it was planly clear that the app had closed. I therefore had to pull over to restart the app. Once I unlocked the screen the app did resume. I was just glad I was making a trip I was familiar with and testing the app functionality.
I take/make a lot of calls while travelling I need a nav app that I do not have to re-setup everytime I hang up a call. Can this be addressed in Nokia drive or can someone suggest an alternative app to use instead?

There already are same issues reported here

  • Nokia Lumia 800 what's happen?

Hi i have a lumia 800... I charged my phone and when is 100% it's only 1 day and 2 hours written....  My phone i ready to work only 15-19 hours....I use it normaly it's mean : 20min talk, about 20-30 sms and 10-20 min internet.... everything I off except email ( take email- immediately) localization is off the same with many aplication.... I have a new soft and still my phone go only 15-19 hours.... your lumia 800 also work 15-17 and then on battery you see heart??
    thanks for answer

Yes I have a Lumia 800 but not using it since I got the Lumia 920. I usually get 2 days during the week and maybe 3 days during a quiet weekend. Same with most of my other smart phones.
You cannot compare the latest smartphones to the 3310. Smartphones have big colour screens, wifi, touchscreen, emails and messages always synching, more powerful processors. The power consumption is so much higher. 120-220mA is high for idle. Probably because your phone is doing something in the background.

  • The most systematic analysis of Lumia 800 battery ...

Hi, don’t mean to be arrogant, but I’ve read many threads, forums, posts etc.  There are tons of info, someone tried a table, etc. but no one has attempted to summarise the relevant parameters.  So here goes:
    1.     I have a Cyan 800, bought locked at “3” UK, then unlocked.  It’s beautiful and makes iApple UI look, well, jurassic or geriatric in comparison.  The screen is so beautiful that I switched the thing on just to marvel at the ease of reading the glorious white on black (real black, not grey) and I am smitten by the ascetic aesthetics of the UI that put function over form (I simply can't stomach the saccharine animation of Apple, it is an eye candy for a while, then becomes bothersome, at least to me.
    2.     Initially, I noticed that the battery life was not great, but it did not seem disastrous, and I read all the gleeful Apple worshipping media trying to fan the battery issue, but I thought that it was a storm in a tea cup and just the usual attempt to put-down any competition to Apple.
    3.     Until a couple of days ago I noticed that I have less than ½ charge after only a few hours off the charger without really doing almost anything.
    4.     I panicked, read as much I could the forums, etc. (including probably the most technical – XDA-Forums) but got there only one real advice, the “diagnostics” mode (dial ##634# - I also downloaded an App (called Diagnostics) that does bring you straight to the relevant page without the need to “dial” the ##634#).
    5.     I then tried to see what was draining the battery, I stopped 3G connection and “presto”, the drainage stopped and I thought that I resolved the problem (at least for me, there were clearly problems with a certain hardware code, see below).
    6.     For one day, the battery was very durable.  Even though I had some reasonable With-Fi browsing and calls (GSM, not 3G), there was more than a 1/3rd of the battery left after about 20 hours of the last charge.
    7.     Then, today, the morning began very well (in terms of the battery), it was losing less than a few percentage points every hour.  I used it for light browsing and a bit of Bluetooth listening.  Them my 7-yr old played some X-Box games for a bit, but the battery was way above 2/3rds.  I then noticed that the phone was warm even though it was not on.  Initially, I thought that it was warm because it was on my body, but then I noticed very fast fall in the battery level.  Check:
    a.      the 3G again, no it is still off
    b.     wi-fi and Bluetooth off
    c.      I even checked what Apps were in the background (though I know that it is NOT draining)
    d.      - nothing helps, the drainage was high, even when the phone was closed (i.e., not used).
    8.     There was nothing I could do, until I shut the phone down completely and switched it on again.  Then, the drainage returned to the “good” level, i.e., a few percentage points per hour.
    9.     So bottom line, I think that there was something going-on “in the background (that is why the device was warm even when closed) – the problem is that this seems to be intermittent/random and very difficult to put the finger on what causes this problem.  I hope that Nokia resolves this problem and not only the “low” battery capacity (see below) that Nokia acknowledged.
So after this long intro, what do I see as the “hard-points” here? The most important parameters for the story seem to be in the following screens:
    1.     “Diagnostics” (##634#) “Battery Status” screen;
    2.     “Settings”/”Systems”/”about” screen, have to press the “more information” button;
    3.     “Settings”/”Systems”/”battery saver” screen;
    4.     The battery icon and its remaining capacity representation on the main screen.
The “Diagnostics” (##634#) “Battery Status” screen:
It seems to contain the following info:
    ·       “Charged” – seems to display ALWAYS the figure “65535%”;
    ·       “Voltage” – seems to show figures of between 3.700 V (i.e., volts) to 4.1 or 4.2 volts
    ·       “Current”, followed by “charging” or “discharging” and the current, usually between 130 mA (i.e., milliamp) and 500 mA.
    ·       “Full Charge Capacity” – showing different figures for different people, usually between slightly above 900 mAh (i.e., milli-Amper-hours) and slightly above 1,500 mAh.  Although in this should logically be a fixed-for-ever, or at least in the short term level, the figure seems to fluctuate slightly, see below for more detail.
    ·       “Remaining Charge Capacity” – clearly the most important parameter, showing the remaining mAh in the battery.  Although in theory, the level immediately after long charge should be equal or very near the “Full Charge Capacity”, in practice, it almost never is (remember, I take this not only from my case, but also from numerous reports that I got from the various forums), see below for more detail.
The “Settings”/”Systems”/”about” screen, the relevant info items:
    ·       OS version – it seems that the latest one (as of late dec 2011) should include “7740” in it.  apparently, Nokia promised some respite from the battery bugs in this “7740” update, but from what I read in the forums, there was absolutely no difference.
    ·       Firmware revision number – interestingly, the firmware revision number includes “7720”, though I am not sure what it means.
    ·       Hardware revision number – this ends up with “xxx.3” or “xxx.4” – as below, I wonder if this is a different OEM factories designation, but it seems to me that it is the “xxx.4” that has one type of problem (low “Full Charge Capacity” of under 1,000 mAh).
The “Settings”/”Systems”/”battery saver” screen – what is relevant for us is under the “battery information” – you must unplug the phone from charger to see three lines:
    ·       “Remaining battery life”: supposed to be between 0 and 100% of course (though in this context, calling it “remaining battery life” is misleading, or at least inconsistent with the “remaining charge capacity” of “Battery Status” screen.  Perhaps it would be better to call this “remaining charge”
    ·       “Estimated time remaining” – measured in hours, in my case, it is always under 15 houts.  There is no explanation what it means, I would guess that this is “how many hours will your phone work in stand-by mode”, but then it is way way below what Nokia said – measured in hundreds of hours.
    ·       “Time since last charge – measured in hours.
So below I summarise my findings, but first, my unit parameters:
    Color: Cyan (does not seem to make any difference to people out there – problems “cross” colours;
    OS: “7.10.7740.16”
    Firmware: 1600.2475.7720.11414
    Hardware: 112.1402.2.3
    So, in MY case:
    1.     “Battery Status” screen:
    ·       “Charged” – seems to ALWAYS display the figure “65535%”, like all others on the forums.  This must be some kind of mistake because it does not change or update and makes no sense, now that we are in this so deep, I hope that Nokia explains what the hell this means, if at all;
    ·       “Voltage” – seems to show figures of between 3.700 V (i.e., volts) to 4.1 or 4.2 volts.  When the battery is low, the voltage seems also to fall below 4.0;
    ·       “Current”, followed by “charging” or “discharging” and the current, usually between 130 mA (i.e., milliamp) and 500 mA.  When the battery “plays nice”, i.e., there is no “problem”, this figure is under 150 ma, usually going seesaw between 140 and 155.  When 3G is on, it is above 250 towards 270 mA
    ·       “Full Charge Capacity” – showing for me usually above 1,500, constantly changes, though less frequently then other figures in this screen.  Strangely I noticed that when it is cold (I was jogging and it was in an external pocket with about 7C outside), this number went lower, under 1,500.  Perhaps the battery when colder can hold less charge?  Nokia should explain.  I think that in case of Hadware versions that end in “x.4” the maximum in this parameter is reported under 1,000.
    ·       “Remaining Charge Capacity” – in my unit this never reaches the “Full Charge Capacity” (which is usually slightly above 1,500 mAh), it stops below 1,350 mAh.
    2.     “Battery Saver Screen” and the battery icon on the main screen:
In my case, because the “Remaining” charge never reaches close to the “Full Charge”, when I disconnect the phone from charger, I get straight that “Remaining Battery Life” is “94%” (1350/1500 or so) – and the icon is never 100% “full”, rather “almost” full.  “Estimated time remaining” never really above 15 hrs.
So, there seem to be (at least) two major issues/problems in relation to battery/working-time:
    1.     Firmware revision (probably) “x.4” may have a faulty battery that would not charge above 1,000 mAh (950 mAh is mentioned by many, or about 1/3rd less than intended by Nokia (unless it is a software bug, which will be huge relief for all, especially for nokia);
    2.     Firmware revision “x.3” may have escaped the “crippled” battery of revision “x.4” guys, but from time to time it can lose battery charge at least 2 times faster than otherwise, most likely due to some background processes that can be felt as the device becomes warm even when not switched on (i.e., in stand-by mode).  This seems to be intermittent or random and can be stopped by powering-down the phone and then powering-up again.
    3.     In all cases, the claim that the phone can be several days in sand-by mode, must be wrong and Nokia must address and explain this.
So in summary, at least in respect of battery, there is a mess.  Will be interesting if some people with other WP7 devices can chip-in and say whether it is similar in their cases, but Nokia should be open and explain and even admit mistakes, I hope that this can be rectified by software, or at least it is not a “terminal” complication for Lumia 800, which is a beautiful device.

I would like to thank all the people here who have taken the time to put all this info together for us all and hope it is of help to the folks who are having trouble with battery life. I'm not doing to bad on battery life myself as it always last me though the working part of the day when I don’t have access to a charger and I will soon be updating my car cradle to take the Lumia so will have access to a charger though the day to. Personally I have come from the N900 and that phone also had some battery issues when it first came out which where pretty much sorted over time, as for manufactures claims on battery life, I always read these figures the same way I would read expected miles per gallon that car manufactures put out, meaning that there would only be a very select few that would ever get what the manufactures say you can get the rest of us will all get a very wide variation on these figures. I know that Nokia have acknowledged that there is an issue with battery life and not all of us have this issue, at this moment in time I'm not to unhappy with the battery life, but if it improves then I will be pleased. From all the posts I have read on this site it does seem that some people do read manufactures specifications as if there are set in stone, I'm not criticizing anyone here would just like to say that they are trying to sell you something so have a good look at the figures and maybe check them with other independent sources if at all possible. My only disappointment really is that we have to rely on other people and not Nokia themselves to let us know what’s going on, I wish the manufacture would be more open and quicker to let us know what’s going on and what they are doing to sort out problems and some sort of time frame that we could expect something to come out to fix a problem. I know bugs can me very difficult to find and ever more difficult to fix sometimes but if Nokia put out a weekly report about how things where going on bug fixes or forth coming updates it would help everyone in deciding where they are going with their chosen product.
Again many thanks to all the people helping us all out and wish you all a happy bug free new year.

I have installed many applications and games in my Lumia 800 (windows 7.5), but I am worried whether installing many applications in a windows phone will ultimately slows down my mobile?

Actually I heard that microsoft designed the Windows Mobile OS in such a way that there will be no any background application running while running a particular application. So I don't understand how the mobile device will perform slow in case of a large no of aplications installed in it, because the RAM memory space will not be occupied by additional applications because of no background process.
Could you please shed some light on this technical thing if I am wrong?

There have been similar low temperature issues reported using N9, which seems ironic for phone designed in Finland. Do also wonder whether state of charge of battery is implicated in such behaviour as really need to be fully charged before taking out in the cold.
I remember on a cold morning I left it on the charger over night and the touch screen wasn't working.

  • Lumia 800 & Error code 80180048

Having waited patiently for EE/Orange in the UK to come up with the 7.8 update for my Lumia 800, there was great rejoicing when Zune finaly showed it as available - then gloom as the update only gets so far before throwing up an 80180048 Error Code.  I've tried a hard reset but still the same problem, and also tried it on a different PC (both Windows 7). Any suggestions please?

    Hi odseybod,
Thank you for posting and welcome to the forum.
Provided the error code, you can try these troubleshooting steps for us to resolve the issue. Before we begin, please see IMPORTANT NOTES.
    • DO NOT use the Windows Phone Support Tool if your phone's operating system (OS) version is 7.0.7390.0 or higher.
Note: To find out which version of the operating system your phone has: On Start, flick left to the App list, tap Settings > About > More info. Look for the number next to "OS version".
    • Zune software version 4.8 or later versions are required for the latest version of the Windows Phone Support Tool.
To determine which version you have, open the Zune software on your computer and then click: Settings (top of screen) > Software (upper-left corner) > General (left column) > About Zune. Look for the number next to "Version".
The following steps show how to download the Windows Support Tool and use it to resolve your installation issues.
    1. Begin by reinstalling the Zune software. To automatically remove and replace your Zune software, a Fix It tool is available:
You may be able to resolve this problem automatically. Click the Fix this problem link. Then, click Run in the File Download dialog box and follow the steps in this wizard.
    Fix this problem
    Microsoft Fix it 50577
    Notes:
    • This wizard may be in English only; however, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.
    • If you are not on the computer that has the problem, you can save the automatic fix to a flash drive or to a CD so that you can run it on the computer that has the problem.
    2. You may have to update your computer:
                  a. Visit the following Microsoft website: http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate
                  b. If you have not previously done this, click to "opt in" for Microsoft Updates.
                  c. Click Check for updates.
    3. Unplug the USB cable from the phone.
    4. Download the Windows Phone Support Tool from the Microsoft Download Center:
               • If you have a 32-bit system, download the WPSupportToolv2-x86.msi package.
               • If you have a 64-bit system, download the WPSupportToolv2-amd64.msi package.
Note:  If you're not sure whether you have a 32-bit or 64-bit system, read the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
827218 How to determine whether a computer is running a 32-bit version or 64-bit version of the Windows operating system.
    5. Complete the online steps to install the Windows Phone Support Tool.
    6. When you're finished, click Start, point to All Programs, and then from the list of programs, click Windows Phone Support Tool.
    7. Restart your phone: Press and hold the Power button until you see Slide down to power off, then flick down. After it’s off, press the Power button again to turn on your phone again.
    8. As soon as the phone turns on, press and hold the Camera button until the connect-to-PC screen appears (shown at the end of this step). It may take a few moments for this to appear. As soon as the screen appears, release the Camera button .
    9. Reconnect your phone by using the USB cable that was included with your phone. Your phone will be detected by your computer and the Zune software may automatically start. This process frequently takes several minutes.
Important: If the Zune software DOES start, close the program.
    10. In the Windows Phone Support Tool, click the Recover button.
    11. The Windows Phone Support Tool will install an update that fixes the problem and restarts your phone. If your phone is locked, enter your password when you are prompted.
Note: If you receive an error after you click the Recover button, repeat steps 1-4 to make sure that you have the most recent versions of the Windows Phone Support Tool and the Zune software before trying again.
    12. When you see "The device has been updated" text, located at the bottom of the screen, close the Windows Phone Support Tool and disconnect your phone.
13.Reconnect your phone to the computer by using the USB cable included with your phone and install the latest Windows Phone update. To do this, click Settings, Phone, and then Update.

    I've had my Nokia Lumia 800 since 1year 4 months~
I've dropped it a few dozen times during this time.
So last time I dropped it, the screen got loose.
So I wonder, is it safe to just use some very strong glue in the corners and press it in again?
The glue will be put on the backside of the panel
I hope you understand what the problem is

  • Lumia 800 - Tethering doesn't allow access to Inte...

    Hello All,
I've just updated my Lumia 800 to Tango. I now see the Internet sharing option. I can switch it on, other clients can see and connect to the WiFi hotspot.
I tried to tether my Windows 7 laptop to the phone, but no luck - I cannot actually use the tethered connection to browse the Internet.
I don't have any restrictions on my Internet usage plan.I can confirm this because with the same data plan (and SIM), my E6 (with Joiku hotspot) can share its Internet connection without any hassles.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    -Thanks!

    Hi all,
    Thanks again for your feedback. Could you try to do the following;
Disable Wi-Fi on the Lumia so it only has a Mobile data connection.
Disable Wi-Fi access on the laptop
Enable Internet sharing on the Lumia
Enable Wi-Fi access on the laptop then find and connect to the Lumia access point.
If you do not get internet access on the laptop please send me a personal mail with the following data:
    Phone carrier and country
    Laptop brand and model
Used operating system (including any service packs!)
The speed of the connection from Wireless Network Connection Status on the PC
The following settings for the Interface on the PC (Wireless Network Connection Status>Details)
    IPv4 address
    IPv4 Default Gateway
    IPv4 DHCP server
    IPv4 DNS Server
I will forward these toward the investigation.
