Lumia 800 not picking up 3G T-mobile network

Hi there, I am having problems picking up the T-mobile 3G network with the Lumia 800. The phone works fine on the 2G EDGE network...but data connection is soooo slow!!! I think the phone may not be compatible with the 3G network. Anyone having the same issue?
Thanks in advance.

When you sday T Mobile, you mean T Mobile USA or one of the many T Mobile's of Europe?
In Europe T Mobile uses the same frequencies as the other operators. In the USA, T Mobile uses a unique frequency band called AWS only used by them, and a canadian operator (and one in Chili I understood).
In total there are 5 3G frequency bands used in the world, and 4 GSM bands. Almost no phones have all bands. (In fact Nokia Symbian3 models are almost the only models that do.) Most phones have a subset only.
The Lumia 800 has 3 of these five 3G bands. But there are two models.
1) The European model (still sold through Amazon or other channels in the US,) has the 900/1900/2100 band, which makes it work in Europe, most of Asia and on most of AT&T's 3G network.
2) The US model, which has the 850/1900/2100 bands, which makes it work on AT&T, and most of Europe and parts of Asia.
Neither of these two models work on T Mobile USA.
The 710 model, when you get the US model at least, does work on T Mobile USA though.

    Hi Jenniferrl,
    Welcome to the forum!
Have you tried charging the phone through a PC? Please note that it may take time before the phone will switch on. You can also press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds. Check this link for other troubleshooting steps:

  • WRT54GX2 does not pick up time from the network...

I have a WRT54GX2 running firmware 1.01.14 and it does not pick up time from the network. I have PacBell (now AT&T) as an ISP and a DSL link. My old Netgear router picks up the time immediately. I am trying to figure out if I have a defective unit or if this is a firmware bug. Without the time, I can not use any of the scheduling functions, nor measure uptime.
Does anyone have this router with the time working? I have set the appropriate time zone.
    Thanks,
    Martin

    Thanks for you ideas.
The backup file appears to be binary. However in searching through it I did see 3 time related text strings, namely: clock.stdtime.gov.tw, time-b.nist.gov and time.nist.gov. I can successfully ping clock.stdtime.gov.tw and time.nist.gov. This reinforces my belief that my ISP (AT&T nee PacBell) is not blocking access.
however ntp works on TCP port 123. ping works on udp 7 afaik. if your old netgear works i guess this is a router problem.
have you reset the router yet? afaik press reset button for 10 seconds.
you will however loose all settings and need to enter them again. it may however fix the issue.Message Edited by linksysinfo on 07-09-2006 03:09 AM

  • Lumia 800 not switching on. Dead?

I have had my Lumia 800 for a little less than a year and 6 months without any major problems besides the typical battery issues. Few days ago, I restarted my mobile (long pressing the hold/lock button till the goodbye message appears) only to never switch on again. I tried every possible key combinations, tried charging through the power outlet & the PC yet the phone wouldn't switch on. Please help.

Was the battery  fairly when you rebooted it? Is it possible that the battery is dead? If so you could try charging with a high output charger, such as one for a tablet.
Other than that, have you tried rebooting the phone again by pressing and holding the power button for at least 10 seconds or so?

    Hi kleen120,
    Welcome to the forum!
Do you mean the phone is now stuck on the Nokia screen and won't go through? Note that using third party apps to restore the phone's software will void its warranty, but you can still try the steps shown at this link to further isolate the issue: Troubleshooter for Nokia Lumia 800 - My phone doesn't work as expected.
Note that this link is for a specific region; it's best to try searching the troubleshooter page in your local Nokia website. Check this link for the Nokia global support page: Nokia Wayfinder. This link might also help you find a local Nokia Care Point in case the troubleshooting steps didn't work. However, charges will apply for out-of-warranty devices if repair is possible.

  • Lumia 920 not working on 3G, **bleep** mobile ... ...

I have purchased Nokia Lumia 920 month ago. First loaded with Lyca SIM (providing service on telstra network), phone call and messages were working fine but mobile data never worked on the phone. I thought it might the issue with Lyca network. First of all, it was not showing the 3G in the status bar, instead it was showing up pointing triangle. According to Nokia manual it is a sign for roaming data. Though it was a roaming it should work because in setting I set data on roam. I hope it should work but it was always complaining about the data network not available. When I was using that sim with my iPhone 4; though it was slow, it was still working. So I never bothered to make it working with Lumia 920.
Recently I moved to Kogan Mobile SIM (Providng better service than Lyca on telstra network), which really have good data connectivity. Now it is showing 3G symbol in Lumia 920 status bar but whenever you try to open any application, or even a browser it says no connection. And the same sim card I place in iPhone 4, it is working with good speed and better connectivity.
Can someone tell me is that the phone settings issue, that I havent set something properly or this phone it self is **bleep**?
I appericiate some responsible & helping response from the Nokia staff or customer service.

As this is a peer forum and not a 'Direct to Nokia' one you can go here to get a response from Nokia if you must.
First of all the Triangle indeed means you are roaming. Roaming means nothing else but that your are not using the network belonging to your operator but that you are in fact using another carrier's network as a 'guest'. In your case the network belongs to Telstra and lyca is the operator. Depending on how the operator sets up te network they will either appear to roam or appear as the 'main' carrier. For you this makes no difference but if so you would have to have the option to allow use of data while roaming set in Settings>mobile network>Data roaming options
In addition you will need to set up the correct access point in Settings > access point which should be the network for your operator, not  for the host network. If you see the settings tap them to activate or add the Internet (and MMS) settings manually if not. The correct settings should be available through your operator.
If you do not yet see the access point settings option in Settings go here to download them.
If you have any further questions feel free to ask and remember.. deep breaths..

the powe/lock key for my lumia 800 is not working, i have to use the camera key to unlock the phone, please can anyone tell what to do. thanks

Try getting in touch with Nokia Care as it would seem you may have a hardware fault.

  • Lumia 800 not reading microsim

I just received a second hand Nokia Lumia 800 from a friend. The problem is doesnt seem to read  microsims (tried several other than my own). Is this something repairable? The phone is out of warranty. I think.

Cold be one of these reasons:
    1. Phone is locked to a different network than your sim, ask your friend.
    2. Phone has been reported as stolen and black listed, ask your friend.
    3. It has been dropped or moisture damaged, ask your friend.
A Nokia care point may be able to help you, give your nearest one a call.

  • Lumia 800 not accepting a charge

Well the really bad experience I've been having with the phone's WP7 os has been joined with the phone developing quite a large problem. If I plug the phone in to charge it I get the symbol to say that it is charging (the heart on the battery) but it puts no charge into the battery. As the phone auto turns on when the charger is connected it emptied the battery by trying to recharge it. (still don't understand why you can't turn the phone off to charge it quicker like you can with pretty much every other phone). When I'd let the battery drain totally before, then put it on to charge you get a big picture of a battery with a red line at the bottom, but once there is no power left it won't even do that.
My issue really is that if I plug the phone into the laptop, the laptop recognises that the phone is there and try's to install it as a disc drive but it still won't accept a charge. Is this a common problem with the phone, it is just over 1 month old and I wouldn't expect it to have this kind of problem yet? It's just that if this is a known problem then I don't want to have the same phone again and will push the retailer for a different one.

When plugging your L800 to you PC, you need to install the program Zune. There's no PC recognition for this phone every thing is synced w/ the Zune program. I suggest you update your phone firmware using Zune, to fix all the bugs on your phone. Charge your phone on a wall charger for a few hours. Another thing to do is install the diagnostic tool, to do this on your dial keypad press ##632# and the tool will be added to your app list. You can check your battery status along w/ other tests on this app.

  • Wi-Fi not working if Data Services (Mobile Network) is OFF

Today I had some issues with the Wi-Fi connection..
The problem is that under Manage Conections > MOBILE NETWORK Settings there is an option that says: "Data Services"... As it is under MOBILE NETWORK settings which is related to my network carrier, and I don't have any Data Plan I guessed that i could turn that to OFF...
So then a few minutes later I tried to use What's App, and there was no connection... so I tried using the Browser also without lucky.
Then after looking for something that could solve my problem without finding something usefull I decided to work on it by myself, so I rebooted the BB, my Home Router, cheking for Connection Diagnose under Wi-Fi options, but nothing seemed to work until I decided to turn ON the Data Services setting I was talking about before... and voilá it started working...
I'm not sure if this is an actual problem or something else.. but I think that an option under Mobile Network should not being interfering with the Wi-Fi connection, just makes no logic at all...

Being under "Mobile Network" you would think it wouldn't affect it but it does.  In order to use wifi you have to have Data Services turned on.  It's always been this way...

  • HTC Rezound Will not Connect to Internet via Mobile Network

    Hi,
I recently provided my phone to my youngest son so I went to Verizon and got a new sim card and had them set it up.  Everything worked for about a week or so.  Now the phone will not connect to the internet via the mobile network.  The only way he can connect to the internet is via the WiFi.
I have checked all settings and it all seems fine.  I also did 2 factory resets and still no go. I removed the Sim card, booted up phone and turned back off, re-installed the sim card and booted again.  Still same problem.  Signal strength is good but the 4g or 3g doesn't show up like it used to.  When I click on internet it says network not available and tries to bring up the WiFi.
Do I need a new Sim card?  Is the phone messed up?  Anyone have any idea?

I was having the exact same problem and it was driving me crazy. After reading some other threads, I removed my original SIM card and started up the phone until the home screen tells you the SIM card is missing (Emergency calls only). Switch it off, put the SIM card back in and restarted the phone. Got my mobile internet (4GLTE) coverage straight away.
Hope if works for you too!
    Good luck.

  • Lumia 800 not restarting

Hi i bought this phone 6 months back, couple of days back while on the call it suddenly swtiched off and was not restarting, i tried always to restart the phone. Next day i took it to service center and they told that there are water frengs track on the phone and if it needs to be repaired and would cost extra as it is not covered under warranty. Was told in next 2-3 days the mobile would be ready.
I agreed for this hesitantly as the device was always away from water and that it got switched off while on call and was far away from water, after a week i called the nokia care to find if my phone was ready. To my surprise they told the engineer is working and after 2-3 days it would be ready. i called them back to know if it was ready they again told the same. i called them back after a week to know that still my mobile was not ready as the device was not able to BOOT and they have ordered for some cable and after it comes the device would be ready in next 2-3 days.
But would like to know if the BOOTING of the device has got something to do with the water frings on the side.

If the device has been exposed to moisture (water, steam, sweat, rain, condensation etc). then it could well be the damage caused by the moisture that is preventing it from booting. Any form of moisture can damage the internal components.
All you can do for now is wait and see what happens. If you are unhappy when you eventually get it back you will need to submit a complaint to the repair company or to Nokia in your country.

  • Lumia 800 not connecting properly to ZUNE

I'm getting a message on my phone that an update is available. So when I connect my phone it recognises it and launches Zune, but I am unable to do anything with the content that is on it or load the update.
On the "Summary" page of ZUNE it says "(phone name) is using your device. To see sync, close that program."
What does this mean? What program do I need to close in order to run the update and delete music from my phone?

I have exactly the same problem.
I already tried reinstalling Zune & rebooting pc / phone.
How can I solve this? It's urgent, I can't upload anything...

  • TS1398 Hi...My wifi is not working. It is not dimmed out. When I turn it on it does not pick up any of the networks around me (I know there are a lot of networks available) I have tried resetting my wifi with the steps above but it still does not work. Pl

I have the most recent update.

That you are getting the BONG is a good sign, it's unlikely to be hardware if you are able to hear that.
Start by running SW update. It's not that there is a specific fix, but when updating it may rewrite some system files which may get this going again purely as a side affect. Worth a go, and should not harm the system.
Try reset the PRAM - Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Hopefully one of these quick fixes works, otherwise we'll need to try isolate the issue next - so if still having a problem, I'd try create a new user and login as that user to see if the issue persists (which will tell us if it's system wide or user specific)
