Lumia 800. Windows market place

My brother in law has a Lumia 800 and Microsoft market place no longer works.
The app icon is still on the phone and when you press it nothing happens. Any ideas why?. Is it possible to reinstall it? He is not very tech savy! Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, first it'd be nice to know whether the phone is still WP7.5 or has it been upgraded to WP7.8?
Some tips he could try:
1) make sure the internet connection of the phone is working
2) make sure the Windows Live / Hotmail password is still valid
3) restart the phone. If that doesn't work:
4) make a soft reset. If that doesn't work:
5) make a hard reset. All the data will be wiped away and the phone will have a fresh start.

I have come acrossed an issue in my L920. Windows Market place in the phone is not showing update for any app i have installed in my phone for around amonth. I was hoping that this problem will be solved after release of GDR2+Amber update, but the problem stil stands, i have to keep watch on the blogs like wpcentral and windows phone blog for any update of the apps i have installed as well as for the system apps which consumes lot of time. Can you check if you have an active connection? What type of connection are using? If you are using cellular data connection, try to use Wi-Fi and check if the app updates will appear on the Store. Also, do you have multiple phones registered under your Microsoft account? The App update push notifications may not be shown if you have multiple phones running with the same account. If this is your case, try to remove a registered device from your Microsoft account, please follow the steps below:
Use a desktop browser, sign in to your Microsoft account by clicking on the link www.windowsphone.com.
Once signed in, and then hover a mouse pointer over your name at the top right corner of the page.
On the drop down menu, you will also see the list of devices that are registered on you Microsoft account.
Select a device that you would like to remove.
Once you have selected the device, move a mouse pointer over your name and then select Account Settings on the drop down menu.
At the top left corner, you will see the name and model of the Windows Phone you would like to remove.
Click on Remove.
Confirm the action by clicking on Remove on the pop-up window.
The back-end change to remove device association takes up to 72 hours to replicate through the systems.

i bought Nokia Lumia 800 on Dec 2012, till now i have received only one update (windows 7.8).
even we are part of lumia family and we are not able to access the full features of Windows.
In my case, i'm not getting any updates and now SKYPE is also not available in my phone.
in my view all customers are equal. we have also paid a good amount to buy it. I have been a part of the Nokia family for almost 10 yrs and has used verious models (nokia 3310,1100,6600,6233,5233,6233,lumia 800).
As a request, kindly help us with new updates like you are providing for windows 8 mobiles and solve the Skype issue as we all use SKYPE for video chatting.
Indirectly i have done marketing for nokia phones as i was happy with the functions and i want my friends also to use the phone and has helped you in increasing the sales.
Kindly help me with a solution regarding this as i think customer as the king and loyal customers as the best promoters for any product.

I have installed many applications and games in my Lumia 800 (windows 7.5), but I am worried whether installing many applications in a windows phone will ultimately slows down my mobile?

Actually I heard that microsoft designed the Windows Mobile OS in such a way that there will be no any background application running while running a particular application. So I don't understand how the mobile device will perform slow in case of a large no of aplications installed in it, because the RAM memory space will not be occupied by additional applications because of no background process.
Could you please shed some light on this technical thing if I am wrong?

Sync Lumia 800 to Windows 8.1

Hi,
I have a Lumia 800, running WP7.8. I sync music, photos & videos to my PC using Zune. The PC currently runs Windows 8.
I am considering upgrading my PC from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. However the Upgrade Compatibility Assistant informs me that Zune is incompatible with Windows 8.1.
Does anyone know if this is actually the case, and, if so, how I could sync my phone (running WP7.8) if I upgrade to Windows 8.1?

There are a growing number of tech forum posts around the net that are just starting to uncover this problem. It appears that MS issued Windows 8.,1, (the "good" version and not the recalled version) and is offering users of Windows 7 a paid update, and Windows 8 users a free update to Windows 8,1, but so far the current version of Zune (ver 4.8) is not compatible. Certainly past versions are also non-compatible,
People with Zune media devices and users of Windows Phones are finding that after upgrading to Windows 8.1 their Zune software will not work properly if it launches at all. So far, posts elsewhere are showing that a reinstallation of Zune is not corrrecting the problem.
Of concern... a copy of Zune I downloaded in March of 2013 came in at about 131 MB in size. A copy I just downloaded 24 hrs ago is showing 270 MB. However, both versions of the software are displaying the same version number (4.8.2345.0). This is very fishy.
As of the date of this post, there are no solutions, or official statements, from Microsoft which is responsible for windows 8.1 as well as Zune.
On further examination it appears that MS has abandoned Zune as a program interface and formally speaking it ended under windows 7. While it works under windows 8 as an x64 foundation, it may not be fully supported. Some Zune pages are now redirecting people to their Xbox service for music and media needs. So far, there is no info evident whether this will also serve the Windows Phone market. It is unlikely since Xbox appears to be a cloud service and not a device interface which is needed for Windows Phones.
There are two "hacks" being bandied about at this time but they are dependent on being an advanced user.
One is a registry hack that will change the phone to be seen as an external storage device. It functions but not all media details will be retained. I will not post specifics.
A second suggests uninstalling Zune and reinstalling the latest version (which is questionable per above) and running it it in Windows 7 or Windows XP compatibility mode. As of this post, there have been no reports on how many people have been successful with either. In any event, should we have to run this in compatibility mode? Should they not fix it?
It seems this problem only just started to arise sometime in late September 2013 when the Windows 8.1 preview was available, and as more people are taking the update they are unwittingly also killing Zune and other programs.
MS is offering a Windows 8.1 compatibility wizard that one can download and run to see what will, and what will not work under Windows 8.1 but it is quirky. When I ran it the first time it immediately showed that Zune was NOT COMPATIBLE. This is Microsoft's own checker. It also showed 66 apps to be functional under Windows 8,1. After updating a few apps to the latest versions, the list fo non-compatibles dropped as expected but Zune also disappeared from the list even though it was not updated. Also dropped were 50 of 66 apps that it had previously said were OK, even though none of those were updated or changed. So I have to question its reliability.
This is not Nokia's fault.
This is a blunder on the part of Microsoft, and what is now needed is for software and hardware partners such as producers and sellers of Windows Phones to pressure MS for a fix. This will not be resolved in this forum.
MS needs to issue a fix and a definitive statement on how to address this, especially the installed Windows Phone user base that now finds itself dead in the water after taking an update that was buggy.
If anyone has successfully updated to windows 8.1 and has Zune working, it will be beneficial to get the specifics. As of right now I am holding off since I need my phone connectivity since it doubles as a camera and vocorder for me.

Lumia 800 Cannot Download a single App from Market...

I've just bought a Lumia 800 on July 20, 2012 from a retailer in the Philippines and am using it in the same.
I downloaded Zune for Windows 7 on my dual boot mac. I downloaded all updates till Zune said there was no more available on the Windows 7 partition. It succesfully installed. I am up to date according to the latest firmware as noted on Nokia firmware and MS OS as of today.
I have not been able to download a single app since I got the phone. I use the marketplace app on the phone and have also tried "pushing" the app from the marketplace on Firefox/Chrome on my Mac and PC.
The phone goes to marketplace downloads, says "Pending" starts to says "Downloading 0%" till it says "Tap here" then I have to retry download. Been trying this all night, and have been reseting the phone by holding the button below the volume control till the phone says "Goodbye" then I boot it up and the same still happens.
I've also tried a hard reset, formatting to factory settings. That did not let me download a single app either. Since I needed the phone, I restored my data. I have been using a wifi connection with broadband at home. I can surf IE on the phone, check mail, but the marketplace has always been off for the few days I've owned the darn thing. I can open the marketplace app, I can see apps, I can browse them, and I can click install, reinstall (for some reason Windows Live thinks its already installed).
Am I missing something? I tried cancelling all other downloads except Whatsapp and still no dice. I've cancelled all downloads, restarted and tried again and to this day, I have an app phone that can't get apps from it's own marketplace.
I tried setting my windows live ID to jive with my region and language, all the same, US or Philippine english, nothing.
I've tried writing emails to Nokia Philippines support and after typing all this they just told me to 1. open marketplace app, 2. Click Download (Arrgghhhh talk about canned STUPID RESPONSES, the guy obviously did not read my email that I did the same.)
Please help me.

Hi kosh, Yes I have done a hard reset even at the risk of losing all my contacts. I've also tried creating a new live ID to sign in after the hard reset was made. Sadly such did not work so I eventually just restored my contacts. I find it disappointing that groups does not sync so if ever I do need to change live IDs I'll have to remake all the groups again. Such is the loss of a loyal Nokia customer who has to pay for Symbian going and ms entering. I find it odd that I would even have to create a new live account as the one already designated as the primary account attached to the phone was created upon first boot of the phone. But I guess there's no loss trying one more time since accounts are free. I'll have to do it some other time as I am currently mobile and had to leave the phone cause the total lack of apps has rendered it insufficient for my needs. I will update the forum once Nokia and/or Microsoft contacts me. Really hoping they just replace the darn thing since I bought the phone open line out of carrier making this feel more of a waste, and I wouldn't want a phone like this sent for repair this fresh or given a refurb.

Lumia 800 BlueTooth pairing with Windows 7 PC not ...

Today i tried pairing up my Nokia Lumia 800 with Windows 7 PC, the bluetooth pairing is not working. The Nokia Lumia 800 is saying my Windows 7 PC as 'not supported'. I quite dont understand this behavior, earlier i tried to pair with my other Android phone, same issue. Am I missing anything in this.

At this time there is no information on availability of this update although Microsoft has stated during the announcement of the Windows Phone 7.8 update that this will be some time after the release of Windows Phone 8.

Cannot upgrade Lumia 800 to new Windows 7

Hi, I have been unable to upgrade my Lumia 800 to Windows 7.5 or higher so I could use the tethering feature. The Zune software simply doesn't see any update past the one I have. I'm opting to skip backup, so space for that isn't the problem. Can anyone help? Handset was bought in Finland this spring, unlocked.

What exactly do you want?
At first sight it looks like you're telling people to download Windows 8. Microsoft might not be too happy about that.
If you're asking where *you* can download it then that's a different matter, although it's irrelevant to these forums.
Maybe you want to know where to download Windows *PHONE* 8?
Short answer: you can't.
Longer answer: your phone either comes with it or not. The latest Lumia phones already have it so there's nothing to do. Older Lumia phones such as the 800 or the 900 originally shipped with Windows Phone 7.5 "Mango", which was later updated to Windows Phone 7.8. These phones will *NOT* be updated to Windows Phone 8.

Lumia 800 MMS Settings

Hi, I have never been able to send or receive pictures since I bought this phone. I am with T-Mobile and they have said that the settings should be automatically applied when I first send a picture. They have also re-sent me the settings which I accepted and it still doesn't work. They have said it is an issue with the phone. From previous posts here I have tried both the Diagnostics app and the Network Setup app, neither of which seem to do anything. Can anyone help here?

Ok. Finally this week ( Aug.1st 2012) Nokia released the Network Setup application that helped me to configure my MMS for AT&T on Unlocked Lumia 800.
Here is what all Lumia 800 unlocked users should do to get MMS working with AT&T:
1- Download Network Setup app from Market Place
2- Run it and manually ADD a new connection. I gave it a name like “ATTMMS”
3- Define this info in the window provided:
a. Internet APN: wap.cingular
b. Leave other fields blank on internet settings.
c. MMS APN: wap.cingular
d. Proxy address: wireless.cingular.com
e. Proxy port: 80
f. MMSC address: http://mmsc.cingular.com
g. Leave other fields blank
4- Now select this new connection as Operator by tapping on it’s name and that’s it!
5- On phone setting, Cellular setting, same wap.cingular APN need to be added too and Data connection should be ON!

Annoying elementary problems with Lumia 800

Hello all from noKIA and microSoft...
Latest OS version upgraded 7.10.8773.98 but still elementary baby problems...
1. First incoming phone call ring tone seconds are at full volume 30/30 despite Your setting... **bleep**??? Why these first seconds should be at full volume? Can somebody from noKIA and microSoft explain that?
2 Impossible to swish off phone ring tone AND vibrating thing. It vibrates in any version. **bleep**??? Why it is impossible to switch off EVERYTING sound and vibrato?
3. Where has gone so old but good thing of ring volume presets as older phones had Outside, Silence, Meeting etc? It was not so bad thing at all. Why it is thrown out?
4. On the phone with English settings there is Office in Russian... **bleep**??? How can I use all helps, descriptions etc of this soft if I do not understand that language?
5. No possibility to download smaller world language keyboard layouts. Why it is so impossible if big brother Windows has it? Ok I understand that it is a "really huge problem" to have menus in world smaller languages (just copy the translations from older models - how hard it can be???)
6. And why all updates are so difficult, so user involving? Can somebody learn user friendliness in any angle from Apple?
Seams that You do not learn on your mistakes and going deeper in them from phone to phone!
P.S. And after latest update - seamed to not working promissed flip over for silencing the incoming lall ring tone...

About ringtones - it was very useful profile option in "old and dead" Symbian. Please put Yourself in average life - You are in office - want to have very silent ringtones, not disturbing Your collegues, then You go out - again - not a few cilks, but holding the volume **bleep**...
Then You go into theater - want to swich off sound and vibro - again - not so easy few clicks... You have to go to phone settings find sound controls etc... and do this stuff... Very convinient... Why newer phone has worse solutions???
I'm from Latvia, so it is quite strange, that phone itself has only few menu languages in 21st century - except of course Latvian. How hard it can be to emit a phone already with regional language???
But about settings - regional settings are available in Latvia - few things are shown in Latvian, but no keyboard layout in this language - i've checked.... Seams strange. The windows for PC itself already for years is in Latvia and has Latvia keyboard layouts etc.. Why for the Phone OS it is so impossible?
And what for in Latvia Office is in Russian? For Russian office there is huge another country called - Russia... Why it is in Russian - the explanation is still not enough understandable... Russians even have another letters - totally different from Latin. Why we need in our country Russian office??? Think about that somefinnish guy in Finland buys phone and also have on phone Russian office... Efvery finn is just happy and says - this is what he is looking for - Russian office on phone that is sold in Finland for Finns... At leat phone could ack - what Office user wants - and change it while one of annoying long updates is proceeded...
About phone firmware... Do You think it is a normal thing that phone starts to work as it should only after long, annoying and at least three updates? For My country - Latvia - this firmware update is still not available... I've checked on Nokia page... there are 30 countries in Europe and Latvia is not listed...
The third question - I tried to copy phone book from old phone using contacts transfer - but I had to face a problem - BT does not work for that purposes despite that only this option is offered... Is it normal? Only possibility os offered through not supported data conection... Cool!
Isn't it a special thing to introduce in market not finished "beta" phones? So unfinished, not enough tested etc?
And you have to admit - Lumia 800 is not a cheep phone. Why people for that money do not have phone usable right from the box, but it means long updating, configuratinga and problems for big money???
