Lumia 800 won't charge

I have a lumia 800 and not used it in a few weeks so the battery discharged.
I have had it on charge for around 24 hours and the only thing that shows on the screen is the battery icon showing that the battery is discharged, battery meter shows just a small red bar at the bottom, and the phone will not charge up.
I have tried using the charger supplied and also attaching it using a spare cable to a USB port on a PC and the phone will still not charge.
It looks like it is dead!!!
Any help or suggestions welcome.

This is the reason why I always advise anyone against fully discharging the battery. Lithium batteries are rendered unchargeable if the voltage drops below a critical level. There is an internal circuit to help prevent this but they don't always work.
This can be fixed using specialist chargers but unfiortunately most of us do not have access to one. Anyway, this is what I normally do when this happens. Find the most powerful USB charger you have. Tablet chargers are a good starting point. Use this charger and connect and disconnect every few minutes until your phone shows sign of life. Not sure how it works, but my theory is every time you plug it in, it pushes a bit of charge in before the circuit stops the charging. So done enough times, it has always worked for me. No guarantees but worth a try.

My Nokia Lumia 800 ran out  of battery while I was at work (not the first time) I take it home and plug it in, after 20 mins of the red battery screen it vibrates and springs to life, but it never got past the white 'Three' welcome screen (one of three screens that flash up when the phone is first turned on, others are Nokia screen and Windows screen).
It's been charging for over 10 hours and it's still stuck on that white screen. The phone feels cold (not stone cold, but not warm either) so clearly it's not charging. I've tried a different charger, different plug, and plugging it in to the computer. When I unplug it, it dies after 20-30 mins and I go through the whole process again the next time I charge it.
When I plugged it into the computer it behaved very strangely. It rapidly connected/diconncted itself, not giving Windows time to recognoise the device was plugged in and install the driver software. Before evneutally diconnecting itself and going back to that white screen.
What's wrong with it? It's not the first time it's totally ran out of battery (although I don't let it happen very often).
The phone is only 4 months old!
    What do I do?
Nokia Care on Twitter was useless, asked me to do soft resets (already tried, many times, the phone turns off briefly, vibrates, then back to that white screen).
If I have to send it in for repiars how do I do that? I live in South West England, my nearest Nokia Care store is in central London, several hours away.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
The white screen it's stuck on looks just like this: http://www.techwatch.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Three-Logo-235x276.jpg

You should contact the nokia care point and they will organise the device to be collected.

  • Nokia Lumia 800 won't update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

Yes, I know there are already several topics on this but I'm pretty desperate now.
I receive a Nokia Lumia 800 in December for christmas (I know it's not the latest but my family doens't have all that much money). Since christmas day I have been trying to obtain the update for the Lumia. The one that fixes battery and stuff. I've tried search for updates and I've tried searching using Zune. I've had NO success at all. I've tolerated the many flaws in my Lumia such as the lack of a screenshot ability and the bluetooth issue. Those are but two of many. I really want to like this phone and so far, I've only managed to become annoyed by it. I refuse to switch to iOS and I don't have the money for a decent android so I ask, does anyone know of any way I can get updates for my Lumia 800?

Pretty sure it's running the latest updates.
A lumia 720 would probably have been (much) cheaper, is faster overall, runs the latest Windows Phone OS (WP8.0 GDR3 with Nokia Black FW) and will be receiving at least the next major OS update.

  • Nokia Lumia 800 won't boot after region+language c...

I just got my Nokia Lumia 800 and attempted to switch region+language to English(US) from English(UK).  It said I had to restart the phone to make the change.
The phone turned off and turned back on, but it is now stuck at the NOKIA logo and has been for the past 10 minutes.  I tried turning it off and back on, but it still did not boot.
I'm totally stuck with a bricked phone here.  Any suggestions?  Keep it on and wait it out?
    Thanks,
    Ken

    @kanno41
You could try a "soft reset" by keeping Volume Down and Power buttons down until the phone vibrates three times; the phone should successfully restart with the Nokia logo after a few seconds.

  • Totally ridiculous.... Lumia 800 won't sync my con...

I've been having this problem for a while now (~1month) with my company phone I use for business and would need this basic functionality to work to be able to change my broken Lumia800 (speaker is kaputt) to a new one (which I already have sitting on my table).
Anyway. The phone will not sync my contacts to my Windows Live account. Firstly I received error message 86000108 and after discussing this with Nokia support they supposedly did something to my account and the sync issue got a bit further. But now the error code is the same and the message reads "Filed as: LastName, FirstName,  This contact couldn't be updated on server" and there are three of these contacs.
Still my Live-account email syncs just fine, but the contacts will not. And now the Nokia support has also been silent for a while.
I've tried to google this and tried every trick i've been able to find. Even removing the troublesome contacts from my phone and Live-account won't help, the error message remains the same even if the contact in question does not exist anymore.
So, are there any experts out there or someone who has found a solution to this problem. Pretty soon my Lumia800 will be the last Nokia phone i will ever own. And i will have to transfer my contacts to my new phone by hand.... totally ridiculous!

    Hi Kosh,
and thanks for the quick reply.
Yep, the contacts are linked to Windows Live account in the phone. And actually I tried to add a contact and added it to my company's Outlook account in the phone. As a result the one contact syncs fine to my Outlook in company laptop.
No contacts are synced. I can also change my Live-account password to any random string and the error message in the phone stays the same, so it seems that the phone does not even ever try to contact the Live-account. Which points to the thing that there is something wrong related to the phone software and the way it handles the contacts.
I have also tried to remove all other accounts from my phone, Outlook, LinkedIn, Gmail and Faceboo. Does not help.
To sum up: remove the contacts in question from the phone and change the phone's Live-account password to totally wrong one => error message stays the same. Same three contacts, not even existing anymore, are mentioned.
As I was in contact with your support (code 1-12508480052) earlier, something happened and I was actually able to get the sync process a bit further. Earlier error code was the same, but the message was "Windows Live error, not updated, error code 86000108". And after talking to your support, the message changed to what I wrote earlier. So something happened, was it some higer power or your support, I don't know.
An yes, i've tried alla methods mentioned in your link to MS support page.
I issued a new support request today, as the earlier went dead for some reason. The new code is 1-12651397458.

  • Lumia 800 UK Mains Charger

Anyone else have issues with the white mains charger supplied for the UK. Unlike other mobile chargers its small and completely smooth. Very difficult to grip to remove and an accident waiting to happen in my view as you need to place fingers slightly underneath to pull from socket.
The sides should be indented somehow to aid removal, or design as old Nokia/Samsung micro usb charger.
Like the phone, only had 2 days...some obscure things or items seem not to work correctly, I'll check other posts first before submitting.

    @yern6
Whilst I can see where you are coming from accessibilty for disabled users goes out of the window when designing most compact packaging for shipping. As output is only 5v there is little risk even if you poke your fingers into the USB outlet on the bottom:
Must confess that I tend to use an AC-10X which delivers 1200mA!

  • Urgent - Lumia 800 cannot be turned on

    Hi Lumia Experts!
Probably because my Lumia 800 was not charged overnight, the phone today cannot be turned on at all. Tried all sorts of Volume + Power + Camera things to reboot the phone but nothing helped.
If recharged via USB, the dead phone first shows an empty battery with only one red bar at bottom, after that just a white NOKIA stays on screen. Then, nothing more, it responds nothing to my operation, just like a brick.
    Any suggestion? Please help!!

    Hi Merengues1945,
    Welcome to the forum!
If you cannot switch on the phone and charging the phone through your PC doesn't work, you may want to try the hardware key combination. Let me just remind you that this process will delete all of your data. First, press and hold the Volume down and Camera keys. Then press and hold the Power key. When the phone vibrates, release the power key but continue holding the volume down and camera keys. Keep pressing those keys until the phone reboots.
I Hope this solves your issue. Otherwise, you may need to have it checked by our technician at the Nokia Care Point.

  • Nokia Lumia 800, Depleted battery Won't start up.

Hi,  After being away for home for 5 days with no charger for my Nokia lumia 800, I foolishly allowed it to run out of battery, Unaware of the problems this can cause due faulty hardware, thanks to Nokia I returned home and plugged the phone into charge. I have allowed my Phone to run out of battery many times before in the past as you wouldn't expect any problem to come of it. After many hours of the phone being on charge I went to turn it on, it vibrated and came up with the phone providers image then no further, it stayed on this image for hours until I held down the power button and  it would turn itself off. Not being to worried at this point I went online to the many chatrooms, helpline, youtube videos you name it to source a solution. Having tried absolutely everything, about 10 times nothing has worked to multiple button combinations, heating the phone up, plugging into PC with zune - everything. Now slightly worried as I really do want this phone to work and not have to buy a new one at a great cost.  This is not a problem I have cause, it's a problem with Nokia, and the manufacturing of the phone, So if no one on  here will be able to aid me in fixing the phone, once I return to the UK I shall take it into a Nokia store to get it looked at, which i won't be happy to do as many of the Nokia outlets are in unconventional locations such as Glasgow.
Thank in advance for any Help which is much appreciated,
    Lambtj

  • Lumia 800 (12070) won't power on - Infinite reboot...

    Hi everybody,
I will explain my problem in 2 versions : 1 long, and 1 short.
    Short version :
    Phone :
Nokia Lumia 800 that I got sent by Nokia 2 weeks ago to replace my ex Lumia 800 which wasn't able to boot. (Different problem). Updated to the latest 1600.2487.8107.12070 version via Zune.
    Problem :
Lumia 800 can't boot, it only vibrates and then turns off 0.5s after the operator screen pops. It does this in loop, random way, but sometimes it manages to boot. Whatsoever, it always turns off randomly, whenever, whatever I'm doing or not. Today it worked fine the half of the day, the other half was spent in rebooting.
At the beginning of the problem I was able to trying to boot it, holding the power button was making him reboot etc etc, but not anymore. Now, since today, holding the power button doesn't give any response. Only connecting it with a cable makes it reboot etc.
    Symptoms :
Totally random, I can't even know if the battery status is real, sometimes it says empty but seconds later it says full. Was working fine before yesterday. Nokia Diagnostic Tool doesn't show the Full Charge Capacity neither the information improvements that other are talking about, I have the 1.13 version I think. It is like it is still the old version. And it isn't always the same, sometimes it turns off, sometimes it reboots, but in all cases it is sudden, without "goodbye".
Trying to stay in offline mode doesn't worked, without microsim neither, neither soft reset, neither charging all night, neither fully discharging, neither none of any tricks worked.
It is my 2nd Lumia 800, and the 2nd that cannot power on. I'm affraid to send it back again to a Nokia Care, because of the 2 week I will have to wait.
    Anyone, solution, help ?
    Long version :
This is my 2nd Lumia 800, the last one was rebooting in loop, then it got stuck at the "Bouygues Telecom" (french operator) screen. No way to charge it or boot it. Got replaced by sending to the Nokia Care in 2 weeks.
So they sent me this new Lumia 800, which I updated to the latest version : 1600.2487.8107.12070 with Zune of course.
Everything was working fine, until yesterday it suddently turned off while I was reading LeMonde app (french newspaper app). Note : No "goodbye", direct.
So I tried to turn it on, it vibrated one time, and once it got on the "Nokia" screen, it rebooted. Did this 3 times, then it booted properly.
Later in the evening, I entered again in "LeMonde" app and it did the same, except it rebooted much more before booting succefully.
I thought it was the app, so I uninstalled it, but it rebooted again while I was chatting, this time.
Then I thought it had something to do with the network, as I had read things like this on the web.
So I tried to stay in offline mode (Plane mode) and it seemed to work a moment, except that in the end it did the same, loop reboot.
I charged it to my PC to boot it, no way, loop reboot. I disconnected the cable, tried to turn it on, it worked.
But it always turn off or reboot after a while, may be minutes, hours, etc..
Today it worked fine until 1h pm, it turned off, tried rebooting, no way, connected to the pc, no way too, was rebooting in loop, 10mins later it booted while still connected. Then, around 7h pm it began to loop reboot again.
Now it is almost 11h pm and it still won't boot. It vibrates, the white "Bouygues Telecom" operator screen appears then it turns off (in 0.5s), and then it do the same, it never stops.
Note : Sometimes when I manage to boot it, it boot with the "in charge" indicator (the big one), but it isn't connected to any cable... Or sometimes it boot with the empty charge indicator (the big one) but then boot succefully and shows decent charge.
Note : Nokia Diagnostic Tool doens't show the full charge capacity, only voltage and current discharging, which is around 100mA, but can jump to + 200mA. Version of Diagnostic Tool is the 1.13 I think. Some on the web are talking about a new version with improved informations, but mine is still the old one, I can't understand why.
    Anyone, solution, help ?
    Thank you for reading.

well it turns out that I experienced the same problem here:
    - have a Nokia Lumia 800, latest updates, French operator: Orange
2 similar UNWANTED REBOOT problems I have had for the past weeks, and mostly very recently:
    - in France, it randomly reboots, apparently more especially when I travel (mostly in high speed train, but also underground or once in a big mall). I suspect it's caused by the device looking for a new BTS or losing signal, but it's not consistent. Sometimes, it just loses signal and my phone stays on.
for this problem, I could not find any solution, similar bug, something to help. I live with it, which is quite annoying but not killing me
    - this week-end I was abroad (UK). In the Eurostar I mechanically set it to airplane mode, to prevent the battery consuming network scanning process. When arrived, I have tried to deactivate the airplane mode and, well, each time I turned it off, the phone asks me for PIN but quickly reboots before I can enter the PIN. Tried it with and without Wi-Fi, charged, plugged, entering the PIN code very quickly, without SIM card, underwater... no way.
I should have roaming activated but I don't think that is the issue. I have tried to deactivate 'time auto-update' but that did not change. I could not modify to Edge or 3G, neither any other operator parameter because... well because you can't while in airplane mode.
well clearly I was lucky I switched to airplane mode, otherwise it looks like I would have suffered from constant reboot... (i could use mine in Wi-Fi)
But NOKIA, please explain/fix this !!

  • Lumia 800 not accepting a charge

Well the really bad experience I've been having with the phone's WP7 os has been joined with the phone developing quite a large problem. If I plug the phone in to charge it I get the symbol to say that it is charging (the heart on the battery) but it puts no charge into the battery. As the phone auto turns on when the charger is connected it emptied the battery by trying to recharge it. (still don't understand why you can't turn the phone off to charge it quicker like you can with pretty much every other phone). When I'd let the battery drain totally before, then put it on to charge you get a big picture of a battery with a red line at the bottom, but once there is no power left it won't even do that.
My issue really is that if I plug the phone into the laptop, the laptop recognises that the phone is there and try's to install it as a disc drive but it still won't accept a charge. Is this a common problem with the phone, it is just over 1 month old and I wouldn't expect it to have this kind of problem yet? It's just that if this is a known problem then I don't want to have the same phone again and will push the retailer for a different one.

When plugging your L800 to you PC, you need to install the program Zune. There's no PC recognition for this phone every thing is synced w/ the Zune program. I suggest you update your phone firmware using Zune, to fix all the bugs on your phone. Charge your phone on a wall charger for a few hours. Another thing to do is install the diagnostic tool, to do this on your dial keypad press ##632# and the tool will be added to your app list. You can check your battery status along w/ other tests on this app.

  • Is it ok to charge my Lumia 800 overnight?

Hi guys, I want to know if its ok for me to go to sleep and leave my Lumia 800 phone charging.  It will be fully charged in 2 hours (when Im sleeping) but I want to know if its ok for me to leave it plugged until I wake up 8 hours later.
Will this affect my battery, or is it ok.
    Thanks.

There is really no issue leaving any modern smartphone plugged in overnight, the phones hardware won't allow overcharging and you don't tend to get memory effect on modern batteries, I've always charged my phones overnight

    Hi,
I haven't got no more the original charger that was in the nokia lumia 800 box and I bought an original nokia ac-10e charger. All was ok until I made the update 7.10 (8170) yesterday. If I put on the charger the phone will charge for 1-2 minutes and the shut down -> switch on again -> shut down again, not charging the phone. If I link to pc it's ok.

  • Charging Lumia 800 since the 7.8 update

I have four ways to charge my Lumia 800:
the dedicated mini USB power outlet
    the USB cable,
    a car cigarette lighter
a Nokia small pin charger with mini USB adapter.
Since the 7.8 update (or so it seems) I cannot charge the phone with anything other than 1 or 2 unless my battery is at a certain level (less than 25% it seems).
If my phone is totally dead, 3 and 4 will do nothing other than show the red battery - they wont revive the phone. Yet if I need a top up, they seem to work
Is it possible the new firmware had altered the amount of charge the device needs and thus is ignoring other methods?
When charging with 3 and 4, the Diagnostics tell me I'm connected but it fluctuates between (Charging) and (Discharging), never getting more that 90 mA charge. 1 and 2 give a permanent (Charging), averaging 260mA.
My adapter charger has a 350mA output and has always worked before now.

  • Lumia 800 PAYG what are these daily £1 charges?

    Hi
I would like some help with my Nokis Lumia 800
Ive set up the WiFi entered in my key etc etc ( and yup it is switched on,) yet every day (while i am at home) i see a pound comes off my credit, i thought maybe it was because i was opening my phone while i was still in say my mailbox and in those seconds i was connecting to wifi i was being charged, but even left in my home sceen i still get the charges....but then my mailbox is constantly being updated .....
how do i avoid these costs without buying conracts
i assumed it would be like setting up my I pad (at home at least) set it up & good to go with no more charges????
I am with o2 and they sell cheap £3.00 month bolt on which gives  100mb (????is that right????) data with no wifi? Huh i thought wifi was free
that is why my user name is stupidgirl

Wifi and mobile data are separate ways of connecting to the internet. All you need to connect via wifi is a working phone and a usable wifi point; there are no charges unless you're using a commercial point such as a hotel. Mobile data is subject to whatever charges apply under your phone contract.
You'll need to ask O2 what the £1 charges are, but I suppose it could be that you connected via the mobile network instead of wifi. Unless you want permanent connection to the internet for some reason (do you really need to read your emails as soon as they arrive or examine Farcebook every few minutes?), why not keep both wifi and mobile data switched off until you need them? You can then choose how to connect depending on whether you're by a usable wifi point. Saves battery use also.
