Lumia 820 and sync with PC

Ok had major issues with Lumia 820 which I got yesterday, as I wanted to upload my contacts and ringtones and music to the phone, now reading the guide I thought this would be so straight forward, insert the USB cable and bingo should sync straight away, well the fun begins.
Inserted said cable and found phone but that was it came up in explorer but couldn't see anything, well after trolling all the web sites and saying you need Net framework, Zune, this software that software, and after doing all these things still no go, so tried a different laptop with W7 and installing some more software still had same problem, so now thinking it must be the phone.
Removed battery, done hard reset (thanks Nokia for loosing my photos) still nothing, then removed Sim card still no go, then removed the the SD card and BINGO the phone would sync.
So it would seem if you have a SD card inserted then the phone won't sync this as wasted hours of my time just to get this to work.
Put the SD card back into my old HTC and that would sync ok.
Perhaps Nokia would like to comment.

Sorry to hear of this. First off, this is a user to user support platform so if you want to address this with Nokia I suggest you contact your local Nokia Care.
Losing your photos honestly is not Nokias fault in any way. You have the option to have them synced to the SkyDrive attached to your MicroSoft Account and they might even be there.
Whether or not this is an issue with the phone or maybe the SD card (what make/type?) is another matter, but as this would seem to be an isolated incident I would not be to quick to blame Nokia for this.
And your Lumia 820 will not require Zune at all, You need to have Windows XP SP3 or later installed for MTP to be available which is what is used to make the phone available in Explorer. No additional software required.

Lumia 820 and applications with Skydrive

Alright, I'm having a quite irrtating problem with my Lumia820.
I'm using apps that have skydrive support, each of them worked flawlessly on lumia710 with wp7.5, now however they fail to work correctly on wp8. The problem is that I cannot access any contenct from skydrive:
blue tomato and purple cherry refuse to connect with skydrive no matter if I'm on data plan or wifi
vNES doesnt connect, and throws "Invalid numeric literal." error when I try to refresh it.
Nokia reading throws "We weren't expecting that - Something's gone wrong. Please check your connection and try again" error, how informative
I have contacted one of the devs and his answer was that "it works on my lumia 920". From what I googled up it might seem that me being from Poland mixes something out in language code or whatever (source) but obviously i would like to have some solid answer from phone's manufacturer.
Also it seems that not all applications are concerned with this error, for instance bookviser works OK.

At this point I would guess it's app related. Keep jogging the developers on this, maybe get onto Nokia Betalabs or Nokia Developers site to get more information.
Besides users having the same issue it seems there is not much you can find out about this here.

Lumia 820 Music Sync issue.

I installed 16GB micro SDHC card into my Lumia 820 and set as default for music and pictures. I try to sync music between my mac and phone. But the end of the sync, error message comes up which says all the music can't be copied. When I check the storage section on my phone. Music and video shows 0 and seems like all the music is in "Other" section. Couldn't see anything under "Music". Tried Google and can't find any solution. Please anybody can help me. Thanks a lot.

I have also experienced the same issue and wasted about 4 hours of my life yesterday attempting to deal with it.
Music syncing to SD is horribly broken on the 820, on both 1232.2109.1242.1001 (original) and 1232.5951.1249.1003 (portico) firmwares.
I have ended up in a state where I have had to factory reset to fix the mess on 2 occasions now, on both original and portico firmware. This issue is definitely not fixed in portico.
For some obscure reason, particularly when using the desktop sync app, if it fails and tries again the music app gets very confused and displays an array of duplicates. If you perform an SD card format whilst in this state, the music app still 'thinks' that some of the music is still there and displays it as such. The only way to fix this erroneous display is to factory reset, which is far from ideal.
A workaround to the duplicate issue is to *not* use the desktop Windows Phone app, which seems to be horribly broken.
The Metro app often says that it 'Cannot copy the file to your phone' but it actually has without any issues, go figure.
I also noticed that some SD cards simply don't work properly in the 820.
I firstly tried a brand new Samsung 32GB which intermittently stopped working when syncing, dragging and dropping, and downloading on the phone causing the store to refuse to open necessitating a reboot.
I'm currently using a Transcend 8GB which does not exhibit that problem.
I tested the Samsung on my PC and it works fine, but I returned it to Amazon as faulty and exchanged it with a Sandisk 32GB, so I'll see what happens with that when it arrives I guess.
I don't know if this is a Nokia issue or a Microsoft issue. But someone needs to step up and fix this, because a 'switcher' from another platform will return the device immediately.
I've been a Windows Phone user for some time (Omnia 7, Lumia 800, then 820), but seriously, this issue was really making me consider my choice of platform.
Music syncing to SD *needs* to work and it needs to work reliably.

I have been transferring files no problem from my pc (xp) to my 820 but all of a sudden the pc no longer recognizes the phone.....it was working fine but now....nothing!
It's driving me crazy!!! Any idea's?

Staying on the subject of Windows XP, does Lumia 820 working okay with windows xp? I am about to enter the world of Nokia Lumia 820 after reviewing the iphone5, Samsung S4 etc but my bigger concern was the ease and compatibility of Windows xp since th ephone is operating with Windows 8. Do all apps work fine and is that a great phone for web browsing, GPS, camera use and video recording use and can these be transferred onto a PC very quickly.
WOuld you recommend an alternative better phone to the 820? The contract i am comparing th edifferent options with is the one with unlimited data.
New to this so thank you all for your comments.

Lumia 820 and BH-111

I have recently bought a Lumia 820 and tried to pair it with a BH-111 headset (which I already had). The headset was earlier paired with my older phone Nokia E-75.
The two devices were paired without too many problems, but then the ring-tone on the handset (which is a custom one) and the one I hear on the headset (which is the default nokia ringtone) is different. Why does this happen? Is there any solution for this?

You face a software-interoperability issue, caused either by the Audi MMI 2G or Lumia Cyan.
A Nokia N8 used Symbian as operating system. Symbian supported the Bluetooth profiles HFP and SAP. Your Audi supports HFP, that for sure. However, it was possible to order your car with HFP+SAP. Therefore, I am not sure if you had used SAP with your Nokia N8 – a Nokia Lumia 820 supports HFP only. You can test yourself, if this is the cause: Nokia N8 » Menu » Settings » Connectivity » Bluetooth » Remote SIM mode » Off. Then re-pair your Audi and your Nokia. Does the Nokia N8 behave the same now? Then, this is ‘normal’ behaviour of the Audi MMI.
No? The Nokia Lumia 820 uses Windows Phone 8 as operating system (software) and Lumia Cyan as drivers (firmware). Windows Phone 8 has a complete different implementation of the Bluetooth profile HFP compared Symbian. You hit a implementation glitch, a software bug, a interoperability issue. One bit in software is enough to cause things like that, a single 1 or 0 at the wrong position.
Because I do not own a Audi MMI 2G myself, wild guessing starts:

Lumia 820 and non-Nokia Bluetooth headset

Hi,
just got a new Lumia 820 and paired my Sonyericsson bluetooth headset HBH-DS980 supporting the v2 A2DP bluetooth profile. Result is that phone calls are working but listening to music over bluetooth is not possible.
Doesn't the Lumia support the standard A2DP bluetooth profile ?
I have used the Headset with Sonyericsson phones, PCs and Android tablets for several yeards so I am bit reluctant to blame the headset in this case ...
Does the Lumia have a non-backwards compatible or proprietary bluetooth stack
In that case I would question the intelligence of the design ...

Issue resolved
Restart of phone + restart of headset and voilá we have sound.
Otherwise OK except for a high pitched whining background noise.
It seems like windows phone is like normal windows, no driver & HW update possible without system restart

I am at a new office that uses Outlook (not Outlook Exchange) which does not sync with my mobile... I just got iCloud set up on my PC to sync my contacts, calendar, reminders, etc... The sync worked (not without flaws, but the other issues seem solvable... I think), so that i can now see all my appointments on both my phone and on my PC. The problem I am having is that iCloud moved all of my calendar items from Outlook into iCloud calendar and now when I send out meeting/calendar invites the recipients may accept them, but the meeting does not get added to their calendar. This is a huge problem and may mean that i need to turn off iCloud.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

I am replying to my own post here as I seem to have fixed the problem.
I do have some calendars that are shared. Some of those are shared with users who have time zone support turned on. So i activated time zone support on my iphone, then deleted my icloud subscription. I then signed in to icloud again and voila... problem solved.
It is a weird one as the other calendar views were always fine and when you opened an event that appeared in the wrong day (on list view), the correct date of the event was shown in the information...

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

New computer--do i erase ipod and sync with new itunes library?

I downloaded itunes on my ancient pc and that's where I synced my ipod. i finally put that pc out to pasture and now have a new laptop. i downloaded itunes to the new computer, and when i hooked up my ipod i got the message "the ipod is synced with another itunes library. Do you want to erase this ipod and sync with this itunes library?" So do I want to erase and sync or not? I'm scared I'm going to mess everything up if I erase it.
One more question: my daughter got a new ipod; once i figure out this syncing issue with my existing ipod, do I need to set up a new account for the new ipod, or can i sync it with the account i already have?

Hello. I recently had to restore my computer (as if it was new due to, to many viruses) Afterwards itunes was still there but the music i have on my ipod was not previously purchased through itunes but they were on my computer and placed in itunes library and sent to my ipod. Well after restoring my pc, itunes opened up when i connected my ipod and it asked me to update. So i updated to itunes 10. Now it is telling me that this ipod is registered to my fiance' and it is running off a different itunes library, and that I would either need to erase and sync to the new library in itunes 10, or transfer to itunes 10 library. I tried transfer and restarted itunes, but it just asked me the same questions again. It wouldnt let me create new place lists either. im scared to erase bc i have so many songs i wont remember what there all were to go back and download if it actually erases all my current songs or applications. I assumed when itunes updated to itunes 10, it would update with all my information. And although the ipod is registered in his name or however he did that, I also have sum form of account with apple/itunes because it uses my email address and my credit card during purchases for this ipod (his name is just there). i dont understand what I am suppose to do to fix this problem. These songs are still on my computer and the program where i downloaded them from but since i had to restore the whole computer, its like they are probably hidden files and arent being detected i guess. I really dont know. I have been reading and I see many ppl with the same issue. Any suggestions that wont cost me anything or a little of nuthing to resolve? I heard of Tansee Ipod Transfer but it charges you to move your files from your ipod, into a folder, to your computer, and then to be added to your itunes. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I can't delete them. I've tried unticking all the music that was on the ipod via itunes and re-syncing, which in theory should delete all music from my ipod. It does except for the 5 ghost songs.   So at present I have no music on ipod except the 5 ghost songs.   Has anyone got any ideas how I can get rid of these?
I had no problems with my ipod touch 4th, which I had for years.   Any help would be great.

You will need a SIM to activate it. There is no way around that. The SIM does not have to be active, but it must be from the correct carrier if the phone is carrier locked. Once activated, it can be removed and used like an iPod touch, but if you ever have to restore or update iOS, you will need the SIM to re-activate it.

Why ON EARTH would I want to do this?? Come on Apple, copy protection aside, this is the stupidest prompt in the history of prompts.
The basic problem (if you Google it) that many many many many legitimate purchaser's of music are running into is this prompt. And here is why:
1. We have an iPhone with a bunch of purchased songs on it and was at one point working with another iTunes library.
2. For whatever reason our computer crashes, the computer is gone/sold, not available, dead, pick your poison, it happens.
3. We setup a new computer and install iTunes and get a prompt to "Authorize" this computer (apparently we get 5 authorizations total).
4. We try to get all the songs from our iPhone back into iTunes and click the Sync button and ...
5. We get the following:
The iPhone "Your iPhone's name" is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?
An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library.
Really? This is what I have to do, wipe out all my purchased songs so that iTunes and sync with a new library? At what point did Apple think this idea was even remotely in the best interest of their customers? Seriously?
So now I'm stuck with an iPhone with songs on it, a computer with songs on it, but neither able transfer songs ... Happy Happy Joy Joy. This is NUTS!? Why punish people that you can verify they've purchased their songs with this bizarre scheme ... and further more, what if some of my songs on my iPhone were brought in from a valid CD purchase?
So my only way out of this craziness, is to use a 3rd party app that will hack the transfer for me? This is good how? I'm sorry, but at what point did Apple's $40 Billion (yes Billion) profit for 2012 instigated this sort of treatment to valid paying customers?
So ... here I am, anyone have a solution to this using "valid" means (without losing all my music) or is 3rd party hacks my only option?

Not with iTunes as your only tool, no.

No you need a third party tool that will copy your other non-iTunes purchased media and photos not in the cameral roll across to your computer. (Some are listed, you can search the web for others).
When you have recovered all the media you want you can then backup the iPhone to the computer (this backup ONLY includes application data and settings, and the cameral roll. After you have backed up this data to the computer you can then immediately restore the recently made backup to the iPhone. The data in the backup will obviously be copied back but all media must have been added to the library or it will be removed from the device.
Your lost computer will count as an "activation" as will the new one. Apple devices don't add to the count. You can reset all your activations (including those you can't physically access) every 12 months should the need arise.
Am I the only one that thinks this is the most crazy and bizarre process of simply moving a music file from one of my devices to another of my devices? Especially ones that were imported from CDs.
You still have the CDs? You can import them again. You sold, gave away, threw away the originals? Technically you no longer have the right to listen to the tracks you ripped. Is it inconvenient? Sure. One might argue that the very reason Apple & iTunes were able to drive the move to digital music to start with is that their system was designed to prevent the casual use of their devices as a means for "the kids" to simply "gift" their music libraries to each other without the tediously time-wasting efforts that the previous generation had to go through with home-taping. This no doubt helped get the content owners on board. Of course memory sticks and portable hard drives now make it trivially easy to copy content from one computer to another and indeed to simply backup your own content against a disaster but most people don't do either. Likewise they don't read instructions or terms and conditions until they are inconvenienced, and then complain. You and I might both wish iTunes made it easier, but it doesn't. And this isn't the place to complain about it. Use iTunes Feedback. You want help, it has been offered. Please read and inwardly digest it all properly this time. It does explain what you need to do to recover your data and safeguard it for the future.

I just bought an I-Phone 5S. When plugging it to my Macbook for the 1st time to copy music from my I-Tunes, this message comes up: "The iPhone is synced with another iTunes library on “localhost". Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?"
Pls help. I'm always so scared I can loose all my contacts if i am to answer "yes". Also, why am I being told the IPhone is synced with another ITunes Library when it's litterally not been connected to any at all? I dont get it.
What shall I do?

This would indicate that you bought a Used iPhone and/or have Connected it to another iTunes Library.
By design an iPhone can only sync to One iTunes Library at a time.
