Lumia 820 mono sound on headphones!

I got my new Lumia 820 today, and when I tried listening to music using headset the sound was mono, and only came out from the right headphone. The problem isn't in the headphones, since I tried both the Nokia ones that came with the phone and others. They all work just fine on my iPod. Has anybody had the same problem? Any suggestions? I couldn't find settings concerning wether the sound is mono or stereo.

If your using any apple product the sound was never right cause they simply do not work correctly,ensure the headphones are fully inserted.

I too am experiencing this issue after upgrading to Mavericks. Headphone audio balance seems to always stick to the far right. When moved to the center, it still only outputs sound to the right side. I have to constantly adjust the setting a little to the left of center for both sides to output sound equally.

Audio quality during call on lumia 820 is terrible

Hi i have noticed that audio quality through headphones on my lumia 820 is terrible. On full volume , the sound is very low and its really tough when you are outside your room. Without headset its little better but i have checked with other headset and its same. People are not able to hear my voice on the other end of calls with and without headphones. I heard this is a common problem with everyone. Please do let me know that it is the problem with my phone ir in general with lumia 820.

Hi, That's unfortunate for you. My Lumia 820 headphone audio quality is great. That is true that the sound level should be higher as in sometimes I have to crank the volume level up to 30/30 to get good and loud sound output. Still, I have no personal complaints about 820 audio quality. Perhaps they'll update the output levels higher in next patch.

Mono sound only

This is a really annoying problem: I only get mono sound with my headphone jack - the builtin laptop speakers are doing fine, though. I had this problem a few days ago, I asked for help in another forum but right after that (after a reboot) it worked again. After I used jack server for a while I noticed that there was mono sound only again, system-wide, and it couldn't be fixed with a reboot. I think I should mention that I had the same problem on ubuntu before (about 5 days ago; installed arch linux afterwards) too.

Maybe it will be gone when I'll do some reboots, there are often problems without any cause (that makes sense, at least; today my laptop died for 3 hours, i couldn't turn it on anymore, and when i took it to a repair service, when i explained it to the guy he tried pressing the power button and it just worked again)

It went away for a while and came back right now, I don't know how to reproduce it, I don't know the cause. This is really bothersome.
The built-in speakers work normally, by the way.

Mono sound unchecking itself after reboot

Hello all,
I primarily use headphones for sound and as I have near-total hearing loss on one side I use the mono sound option in Universal Access. Every time I reboot my Mac the setting undoes itself and I have to go back into preferences and recheck it. Is there anything I can do to lock that setting into place?

Try trashing the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.universalaccess.plist (when System Preferences is not active, of course), then resetting your Universal Access preferences.

Vertical streaks on Lumia 820 display

I see very distinguishable vertical banding and streaks on my Lumia 820. I first noticed them on dark grey backgrounds but now also on e.g. Nokia TV menus. Is this normal?

no this is not normal at all. have you tried performing a soft reset (pressing the volume down and power buttons together until the phone vibrates)? Failing that, it sounds more like a case of hardware failure so you will need to take your phone back to your point of purchase...if they are being less than helpful, then you will need to take your phone to your local Nokia Care for inspection: http://nokia.com/support

Lumia 820 video playback problem

I've recently bought a Lumia 820, my choice partly influenced by the 2 to improve video recording, in particular at live music gigs. Whilst it does seem to be avoid the "wind tunnel" sound effect I've had on previous phone videos, each one I've played back has major blocking on both the picture and the audio, with neither being in synch, and therefore virtually worthless. I tried yesterday just filming a small crowd gathering, so no amps or loud noise, and have exactly the same problem. I'd set the video to record in high spec, so should I opt for the lower 720 spec, or is it a different problem altogether? And how do I solve it, before I get increasingly frustrated at having messed up and missed out on some valuable footage?!! Thanks.

What is the file format of the video you are trying to play? You can try to reset the device (soft reset). To do this, press and hold the Volume Down key and Power key until phone vibrates. If no improvement, I would recommend updating the device. You can set the phone to notify you when update is available through these settings:
Settings>Phone update>Place a check mark to "Tell me when updates are available for my phone"

Lumia 820 customise text notification

I have recently purchase the Lumia 820 and wanted to customise my text alert notification sound.As this is available on nearly every other mobile wonder if it is hidden. Going through all the user guides this is not possible..or is it?

X-FI 3D positional sound through headphones with CMSS

Please respond to this thread and try to sort this issue. Is bad sound from "headphones"+CMSS On due to a limitation of the hardware (is the sound quality degradation compared to "2/2. speakers"+CMSS On due to a much more complex algorithm of 3D positional sound mixing)?
Is there a way to adjust the speaker angles in Calibration tab of THX Console to more than 60 degrees (I would definitely consider a hexediting hack as a viable solution, whatever works)?
I have this problem with X-FI Fatalty. Maybe someone knows what to do about it... I'm trying to get 3D positional sound to work through regular stereo headphones using CMSS 3D. The way I have it set up is as follows:the win xp Control Panel is set to 5., X-FI audio console is set to "headphones" or "2/2. speakers", and CMSS 3D is enabled at default settings. It does work - the 5. sounds from, say, a game is downmixed to stereo with 3D positional effects mixed in (sounds coming from behind are of a different tone, and actually sound like they come from behind). There are problems however.With "headphones" setting, the sound quality is atrocious - the sound is muddy and boomy. The 3D positional audio effects work great - I can pinpoint every direction from which the sound is coming fairly accurately. Note that without CMSS 3D, the "headphone" setting sounds great.With "2/2. speakers" setting, the sound quality is normal (sounds great on my HD555 headphones), but the 3D positional audio effects are not good - audio control panel in X-FI software allows only a maximum of 20 degrees setting for the angle between the speakers, whereas 80 degrees would be required to simulate 3D effects through headphones (X-FI software has two settings for that actually, (+/-)60 degrees maximum for each speaker, with the reference angle of zero degrees being directly in front of the listener - directly in between the two speakers).So my questions is this. Has anyone figured out how to either improve the quality of the sound with "headphones" setting, or increase the angles of the speakers to (+/-)90 degrees (80 total) with "2/2. speakers" setting?

The only possibility that I can think of is that 2/2. mode is NOT as simple as headphone mode with crosstalk cancelation. Perhaps the HRTF only kicks in for sound sources outside of the arc directly in front of the listener. If that were the case, you wouldn't percei've any distortion for sound sources in front of you.
Also, you are wrong regarding DirectSound3D. Keep in mind that Direct3D and DirectSound3D are not the same. The whole point of OpenAL and DirectSound3D is that they present an API to the programmer through which there is NO specification of the number of speakers. When using OpenAL or DirectSound3D, the only thing a programmer can do is specify the location of a mono sound source in 3D space relati've to the listener. The speaker settings for your DirectSound3D or OpenAL device will then determine how this sound is "rendered" by the soundcard. It is not under control of the game. For example, if you have 5. speakers and the 3D position is behind you, the SOUND CARD will make the decision to use the rear speakers. If you use headphones, the SOUND CARD will decide to apply an HRTF to create the illusion of a rear sound source. The point is that the game does not have control over how many speakers you will get sound from.
However, to further complicate the situation, there are SOME games (HL2 is an example) where DirectSound3D is used, BUT the sound output of the game itself IS a function of the Windows speaker settings. This is not how programmers are SUPPOSED to use DirectSound3D. I've written about this countless times. There is a good post on [H]ard|Forum about this. Do an "advanced" search with my username (thomase) looking for the terms "hl2" and "cmss".

Lumia 820 Screen Unable to Power Up

Hi,
I'm facing this problem and I've been trying to debug the issue for the past few hours of whereby the screen will not power up but the phone is definitely working(the buttons will lit when I press the power button, the phone will ring and vibrate when I call it, there will be a sound when I take a screenshot, and the phone will vibrate when my phone receives an email).
I was using this app http://www.windowsphone.com/fi-fi/store/app/the-ssh-client/e8aa1299-e011-486c-9f61-3232c892b17b before the screen failed to start(but I've used this app for quite a while before in other days and nothing happened).
Phone Condition:
1. Screen is not turned on(failed to start)
2. Phone is working(read above)
3. My computer(Win 7) can detect the device, but there are no files inside the Lumia 820 drive(there are files inside it before that).
4. Battery was ~50% when it had problems and now its ~29%
Things that I've tried:
1. Soft Reset - Holding Decrease volume button + Power Button
2. Holding all four buttons
3. Holding power button(weird, but this doesn't seem to reboot the device anymore)
Things that I have not tried:
1. Flash it
2. Charge it
Well, any other viable solutions?
p/s: I've browsed through here and some other sites as well before asking here.

Did you try this key combination for your 4 button reset?
Step 1- Make sure the charger is disconnected.1. Switch the power Off.2. Press and hold the Volume down and connect the charger, if succeed an exclamation mark (!) is shown on the screen.
Step 2 - Then input the keys in the following order:1. Volume up2. Volume down3. Power4. Volume down
Step 3 - The phone will reset and boot up automatically. Please note that this may take several minutes.
Please note you will lose all data doing this.
If the above doesn't work then it is likely a hardware issue and you should have it checked out at your local Nokia Care Poibt.

Lumia 820 + Creative WP 350 bluetooth headset issu...

Hi,
I have tried using Creative WP 350 bluetooth headset as hands free, but the microphone sound is unclear and speech very hard to understand. Sound is muted and fuzzy. Voice quality is much better with couple of other brand phones (Android 2.3 and S40)
I have tried resetting the headset and all the official updates have been installed in Lumia. Is there anything that can be done, or will this headset be incompatible with Lumia 820?

Lumia 820 freezes

"Upgraded" to the Lumia 820 about a month ago from the Samsung Focus (WP7) and everything worked great for a couple weeks until the phone started freezing. Also noticed that once the freezing issue started, everytime I would unplug the charger the phone would play a sound even though I have the ringer off and vibrate on. I complained to ATT and got a replacement. Things worked great for a week, no freezing and no sound played when unplugging the charger. Then there was a notification for updates for approximately 6 items, and I believe this is when the problems occurred again. The phone freezes and a sound is played when the charger is unplugged from the phone like before. The phone freezes when it is in standby and I try to wake it up by pressing the power button.
Anyone else have this issue?

I've heard of low expectations but the 820 is not a cheap phone and you deserve better. A phone which freezes in your pocket can cause you to miss calls. You should be able to use it as an alarm clock without wondering if it will wake you up. But if enough users like you consider it no biggie Microsoft has no need to fix it.

Serious Issues with Lumia 820

I am very sorry to inform you that i have been using Nokia Lumia 820 since past 3 months , and every day i am facing new problems . Few problems I already mailed you before ( Service request no : 1-6KQPRQV )
,which started persisting within the 7 days of purchase . It is a very bad experience for a genuine customer like me , as nokia is like a family to me . Every one including my mother , father , brother are using Nokia and never faced problems since we started using cell phones .
Apart from problems i mentioned before ,few serious problems I have been facing past few days are as below :
* People i speak with are not able to listen me properly (my voice reaches them very low) , the problem is not permanent though but it rises anytime .
*My volume key button do not respond , as i cannot change volume of the songs for hours even though i can see the volume rising and falling in display .
**** and the most important problem which i faced today is very upsetting and i am in real pain because of it , my phone dropped from a height not more than 1/2 feet ( i mean it) and my lowermost screen is damaged . I was not believing my eyes when i saw it . How can be the the screen of a phone which costs me Rs 23,800 be so soft .Thank god display is working but i am unable to use windows key button .
I am very upset because of it . Being love with Nokia i borrowed it on installments , half of which are still pending and I am in no position to spend money on my 3 months old phone .
Please suggest me what to do , hoping for your early response .

Sorry to hear about the problems you are experiencing. Does sound like there are issues with your handset because it is definitely not behaving normally. Your first port of call should be your local Nokia Care Point. They should be able to assess the issues with your phone and advice you on the options available to you.

Recent upgrade screwed my arch (mono sound, no screensaver..)

sorry about that, on the gnome panel volume applet, open volume control and i had to put the left bar in master up, and restarted arch. At least i think it was that..
