Lumia 820 moving battery

Hello all. I got my Lumia 820 last wedesday.  when I use the device I can feel the battery moving inside.  This is really annoying.  I went back to retailer who opened a new unit and to our surprise the same problem is there.  Eventhough the device is working fine so far but I am really disappointed with this battery issue which does not affect the operation of the device but it is really a let down.
I went to the nokia care center when one of the employees suggested to put a sticker on the battery in order to hold it still. I was furious with his answer and told him that I did not buy a brand new phone to put a sticker to hold the battery from moving. Then he went inside and spoke to his supervisor and his reply was shocking "my supervisor told me that a moving battery inside the device is a NORMAL thing"
I really disapointed and unhappy with the phone and care center, and I regret buying it

Hi, my experience agrees with the original poster.
We unboxed a brand new Lumia 820 yesterday and the battery is definitely loose. You can actually hear it clunking around inside the chassis.
You do not need to shake it hard: imagine picking up a box of matches and wanting to know if there are any inside: give it a little shake back and forward. That's all you need to feel the clunking quite clearly. It feels badly engineered, or like someone has installed a cheapo replacement battery which doesn't quite fit.
There are several reports about this on the web, for instance http://forums.wpcentral.com/nokia-lumia-820/202508-loose-battery.html
I'd guess this is because they needed to leave some room for the optional wireless charging stuff, but I'm just guessing. If that's the reason, then it's not an excuse. If the recommended fix is for customers to insert some kind of sticker to stop the rattling on a brand new device, then I'm really qute disappointed. I would expect better build quality from Nokia.

  • Lumia 820 major Battery Drain issues

Having used my Lumia 820 since last December it has been great but in the last 2 months I've suddenly found my Battery draining really fast. I replaced the battery thinking as it is 7 months old and I am not the best at charging properly it might have an issue but the new battery is exactly the same immediately.
I've isolated it to two things - playing Music via Audiocloud or Nokia Music (triples battery usage such that 75-80 minutes of playing flattens my battery, and using Here Maps route navigation which give about 60 minutes before flattening a fully charged battery. On a recent road trip even with the phone being plugged into a charger the whole trip several times the phone switched off as all power drained.
    Any suggestions?

No they aren't. Any application / Game or other such thing that requires higher processing power will result in generating more heat thereby making the phone felt somewhat WARM and will also drain the battery relatively quickly. Only if the phone is getting HOT, you may get the device inspected by Nokia Care technician ..

I am not so happy with the battery Life of My 820... I have seen a mugen 3600mah battery from mugen for the 820... I am very interested in getting one... Does anyone already gave one and like to share their opinions on It... And also, would using the batterypack void the Nokia warrenty?

As an un-authorised accessory any discussion of such is likely to be removed by the moderators for such reasons, but have used their products with a variety of Symbian devices in the past.

  • Nokia Lumia 820 Back Battery Cover

    Hi there!
So I recently had my phone replaced by Nokia but I wasn't aware that I was supposed to not include the back battery cover as well. I still have my battery and sim card but just not the back of my phone. I've asked numerous places to see if they had the back of my phone and no one has it. I looked on Amazon and its $23 to get the back of my phone and I thought that was unreasonable just because it was free to have my phone fixed. Also, they are shipping from other countries and my parents are not comfortable with that.  If anyone could please help with just getting the back of my freaking phone that would be wonderful. Thank you!

    hi mate,
sorry but you are going to have to persist with Nokia Care about this issue: http://nokia.com/support

strange behaviour indeed. first time that i've heard this issue reported. well, it is never recommended to let your phone battery run out, as part of good general battery use practices, so perhaps try replacing the battery with the spare when the battery life is still at 10 or 15%. i agree that the phone shouldn't make errors in reporting the new battery as having no juice.
have you also ensured that you have all the latest Nokia system app updates installed from the Store? and possibly try performing a soft reset (pressing the volume down and power buttons together until the phone vibrates).

  • Nokia Lumia 820 battery

    Goodevening,
I have the impression that the battery of this smartphone is inadequat.
I just did the test :
    - no apps running
    - no calls in or out
    - no messages in or out
    - no search on internet or whatever
The smartphone was 100 % loaded and 24 hrs later, it only shows 40 % !!!
This means that if you are a quit busy user of the smartphone, this means that you have certainly to charge your battery every day, even when your smartphone is new.
What kind of **bleep** smartphone is this ??????
    Regards,
    Karl

  • Lumia 820 battery drain after "Black" update

    Hi all,
Yesterday I finally received the black update on my NL820. After applying the update successfully I charged the phone to %100. Before I went to bed I had:
    Battery at %94
    Wifi - Off
    Data services - Off
    Location services - Off
    Bluetooth - Off
    Battery Saver - On
This morning I wake up and it is unusually bright outside - the phone powered off, the alarm didn't go off and I overslept for work. I haven't touched any other settings after the update. Everything is the way I used it before. What is it that could drain a battery in the space of 8 hours from almost full to power off? I've had this happen on the same phone twice prior to the upgrade as well but then I thought I've forgot data services on or something. This time I'm sure everything was off.
    Please advise.
    Martin

I have been using Lumia 820 since 1 year and have never faced any issues. But after the recent "black" update... my mobile battery drains out within few hours after i charge it 100%. I have to charge it 3-4 times in a day ..
    1. I dont have any GPRS connection.
    2. I use wifi at home (only evenings). The rest of the day.. I use it only for calls and texts.
    3. I have tried hard reset, but that dint help.
    4. After hard reset, I dint update my mobile software.
I charge it till 11pm and when I wake up at 5 am .. I see the mobile is switched off and I cant depend on the alarm to wake me up . That makes me so nervous.
Please bring out some solution to this problem. It is so irritating to charge the mobile for so many times in day.

  • Lumia 820 / battery drain while charging

I have the Lumia 820 with the Navigon navigation app installed.  I went on a trip this past weekend and noticed a strange battery drain while driving to my destination. The drive was a little over 2 hours and I was charging the phone the whole time. I figured I would test it on the drive home. I charged the phone completely before starting the drive home. I was camping so I had to use the lighter jack in the car which is always on and charged the phone from less then 10% to 100% overnight.  Again the drive was a little over 2 hours, had the Navigon app open and running the whole time and the phone was plugged into the lighter and the charging icon was registering a charge the whole time.  The only other thing running was cellular data. NFC, Bluetooth, Wifi, Nokia Drive, all off. When I arrived home the phone was at 45% and was very hot.
I upgraded from the Samsung Focus and using the Navigon app in the same car never ever had less power when I  I ended a trip to when I started a trip.  I use the Navigon app all time so this is a real issue.  I am also going to post this on the Navigon website.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

I didn't have any problem with charging the phone, but I have another problem with the battery, I noticed that sometimes my battery started to drain so fast (I mean from 100 to 10 in less than 2 hrs!!!), even when I'm not using the phone! and when I pick the phone the area on the right hand side of the rear camera (which I believe the CPU located) is warm (it's not hot but warmer than rest of the phone). I managed my background tasks, etc. but didn't work. It seems that there is bug which sometimes the OS won't release (terminate) the processes (even after closing the app). I tried turn the phone on/off but didn't work until uninstalling the last application that just installed or opened. It happened 3-4 times and the last one was today when I opened my Nokia Music. At first I thought may be it's because of the 3G usage, but even after switching to the X-Box music to stream from my Micro-SD card the battery was draining fast.

  • Lumia 820 - battery reserves

    Hello,
after two replies from the Customer Service I decided to ask if the Community has the same problem as I.
My phone is Lumia 820. Works fine, no problems. The battery lasts for approximately 1.5 day (ypu can say not bad - ok). BUT - after the battery runs out, the telephone switches off (automaticly due to low battery), when I try to switch it on, there is a red battery blinking sign - ok. But If I wait four hours (without touching the phone) the phone not only will switch on but the battery shows bettween 20%-50% and - what is very weird - it is sufficient for the whole day of normal work (phone calls).
     Can anybody check this issue?
      Regards,
         Tomasz

Yes, I've done tests on the newest software. I've also done "reset to factory defaults" few times.
It was also done by the Customer Service (twice) - the first time they checked only battery and software and said everything is ok (they've held the phone for two days), second time I've described them what they should do (Charge the phone to full, insert sim card, wait until the battery runs out and phone switches off, wait couple of hours (4) and switch on, repeat the test) - they have held the phone for two weeks and said no fault.
It's also weird to me, as the phone, apart of that, works fine.
A moment ago I've performed the soft reset as you said - I switched the phone off, held both buttons, the phone vibrated, waited a second, switched the phone on. Before the reset battery showed 21%, after the reset now shows 61%.
Is this a problem with: the battery, the software or the phone?
None of my friends has such a phone, so can anybody perform the test?

  • Moving photos or music to SD card Lumia 820

    I own a lumia 820 and recently bought a SanDisk 32GB Class4 SD card.
I tried to move all the photos from phone memory to SD Card memory as described below:
    1. Inserted new SD card
    2. Selected all photos from 'Camera Roll' and choose 'save to SD Card'
    3. After the copying is finished, i see a new album created with all the photos i chose to copy in step 2 with album name 'Date when i copied them'.
    4. I selected and deleted all the files from 'Camera Roll' album.
    5. After 1hr or so, i see that new album created on SD card has multiple copies of same photo. This was seen for few photos and not for all photos in the album.
    6. I manually selected duplicate copies of the photos and deleted.
    7. After few hours i see that original photos in new album are not seen. These lost photos are the same photos which i thought were duplicate(as seen in album) and deleted as mentioned in step 6.
Coz of this i have lost many photos and i cannot get those moments back.
Mean while i had also copied all the music files from phone memory to SD card memory similar way.
I see duplicate music files for half of my music collection. I am not willing to delete these duplicate files which will lead to deletion of original file.
I see that number of duplicate copies of same music files increased, ex; i see 28 duplicates for s same music file. this is annoying and makes music browsing an irritation.
Does anyone face this issue, have found any solution, did Nokia has acknolwedged such bugs.
Since i have a old macbook from 2008, i cannot connect my lumia 820 to my laptop. So backup is not a primary solution for me.
Any suggestion or help is most appreciated.

Hello, I have a Lumia 620 and I had same problem with contacts and I've found out that they were sync to Windows Live which keeps in memory even what you have deleted, so pratically you're not deleting anything on the server but you can actually restore anything of what you think had be permanently ereased!!!! I didn't try to move pictures from the phone to the SD card, I do it with the computer and it works no problems. Are you sure it's not messing up with the sync? Probably I'm not of great help...anyway

  • Please help!! problem with rebooting lumia 820

I only got my Lumia 820 yesterday and it was fine then today the camera stopped working, i tried taking the battery out, and putting it back in then switching it back on - still no luck. Then i went on the nokia website and looked up the troubleshooting advice where it advised a reboot. I tried the reboot, seemed to be going fine but now it wont switch on properly!! when it gets to the switching back on part of the reboot it vibrates then the nokia logo comes up on the screen but stays like that and nothing else happens!! please help, really dont know what to do!
p.s i stay an hour away from the nearest  phone shop otherwise i'd have popped in when it was just the camera not working!

If you tried the advice from guide return it back to point of purchase and get it exchanged.
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • WP8.1. on Lumia 820 is permanently synchronising G...

    Hello,
My Windows Phone 8.1 at Lumia 820 is draining my battery. I think I found the cause: it is permanently synchronising one of the Google accounts I've set up. As it is syncing I can't open the account nor remove it - let alone edit the settings of the account. The other Google account is creating no such issue. I can't find anything weird in the settings of the Google account itself.
My Lumia 820 is fully up-to-date it says.
    What can I do?

Which is of course something I would have liked to avoid. However, it seems to be the only thing left as the soft reset didn't work either

  • Volume & Back Button Bug Lumia 820

    Hi all,
I bought my wife a Nokia Lumia 820 about 2 months ago and up until now she's been extremely pleased and impressed with it. However yesterday she encountered a weird bug which we cannot fix.
Am not sure how she managed it, but the volume display now remains visible always at the top of the phone display and volume is set to 0 and cannot be changed. In addition the back arrow (bottom left) no longer works in any app as it now just tries to close the volume display in the header.
I see a number of people have reported issues with low volume but I could not find anyone else who has the same specific issue with the volume display always showing.
Steps taken to try and resolve this:
Rebooted phone (holding power and volume down)
Backed up the app data etc and did a factory reset
    Removed the battery and rebooted
Ensured that the phone had the latest updates
After the first reboot the display did seem to resolve itself until I then clicked on the volume controls on the side of the phone. This then caused the volume to go straight down to 0 and then the display stuck and had the same problem again.
Also on some of my attempts to reboot the phone, a white exclamation mark showed up after the reboot and the phone was frozen so only way to try and get past this again was to reboot again and again until it disappeared.
Something is obviously wrong but am not sure whether it's a software glitch or an issue wiht the handset.
Can someone help shed some light on this else I'm going to get a lot of earache from the wife soon?
    Thanks a lot, Matt

We have 3 Lumia 820 and one of the handsets behaved like you folks describing..
Did some resets, soft or hard, cant remember, but finally gave the handset to the shop and they sent in in for a reflash by Nokia.
Working without this issue after that and for about 4 weeks now so, reflash it...
