Lumia.820. phone home?

Hi,
every two hours, my Lumia 820 connects to the internet via WiFi.  I can recognize this by the router' log file. What is going on? I tried to disable all of the automatic reports, background tasks, synchronisation etc., but without effect. The phone seems to be rather obstinate.
Is there someone who has an idea why this happens? My phone is one of those rebooting every now and then, especially overnight. I sent it to a so-called repair shop, and after watching the phone two weeks long, they sent it back to me. Next night it rebooted again...  I suspect the automatic connections to be the cause of these reboots, but I can't identify the causal app or service. Despite from hacking the router, there seems to be no way to track the connection. Any hints?

since you sent the phone to a so-called repair shop, there's no telling what they have done to the phone, so i would recommend that you take oyur phone to Nokia Care for inspection: http://nokia.com/support

  • Lumia 820 won't switch to 4G

    Hi,
I have an Lumia 820 phone.
My provider had recently upgraded it's network to 4G, but my phone won't connect to it.
When I manually search for networks, I can see my network with 2G/3G/4G. I have set the max speed to 4G, but the highest speed my phone gives me is H+.
I have been to a shop where they have tested my sim in an Lumia 920 (they didn't have a 820 in stock) but it
    would connect to 4G automaticaly.
My provider uses LTE 1800, wich should be supported by my 820.
Is there an configuration that I missed?
Is there a way to force the phone to use 4G iso 3G?
Is there something else I can test/do?
    I live in Belgium.
    I have version 8.0.10328.78
    revision hardware 1.0.0.0
    Thanks allready!

Yes, the only thing I haven't tried (besides going to my carrier as suggested by Nokia Customer Care) is the master reset. My old phone is a Lumia 900, it has no problem picking up a 4G or LTE signal. When I put my SIM card into the 820 all I get is 3.5G.

  • Nokia CP-556 for Lumia 820

I would like to order a Nokia Lumia 820 Phone (white color).
As an accessory I want to have a white leather flip case. I found the Nokia CP-556 (fits the Lumia 800) but now I'm wondering it will fit also the 820 as it is larger.
Are there leather flip cases available for the 820, preferably in white? If yes where can I order these (supplier for Belgium)?

Its valid for 1 year during which you can download unlimited no. of songs without paying to Nokia. Bear in mind that your Service provider will charge you according to your Plan. After that you need to extend the subsciption thru' a Renew Voucher ..

  • Phone contacts issue (Lumia 820)

I recently got the Lumia 820 loving it but there is one thing I hate and can't figure out how to solve.
(I've searched the forums but couldn't find a clear answer)
I imported my contacts throught the Import contacts from sim option
But now all my hotmail contacts are in my phonebook and I don't want them there. If I disable hotmail they are all gone.
My hotmail account is from my xbox so I don't even have the phone number of the people added on there, so you can guess it's pretty anoying trying to find who you're searching to call
(Only have option to show hotmail contacts and facebook contacts, if i disable them both i don't have any contacts in my phonebook anymore. Not even those who are on my sim)
Short said, I only want my contacts who are on my sim to be in my contact list on my phone
    Solved!

Your Windows Phone sits under your Microsoft account just like your Xbox does. IF you do not want to see the Xbox contacts but still want to have access to the functionality you get from using the account as your primary account you will have to do some juggling to get this to work.
If you have not set up your L820 completely yet the easiest way would be to create a new account at outlook.com, then reset the phone and register it using the new account. Now when you  import your contacts they will sync to the new outlook.com account.
Now reset the phone again and switch back to the hotmail account as primary. Then add the outlook account as a second Microsoft account and allow syncing contacts (and calendars). You can now disable the contacts from the People hub for the hotmail account through PEOPLE > ... > settings > filter contacts and disable for hotmail.
This way your Xbox account will still sync with the games and achievements on the phone while your contacts are on the second account. When adding contacts select the second account for them to sync to..
If you have the phone set up you can go to outlook.com, create the new account then logout and log back in with your hotmail account and export the contacts to your PC. Open the CSV file in a texteditor and remove all the original hotmail contacts. Then log in to te new outlook.com account and import the CSV file into that to get the contacts there.
You can link the two accounts (hotmail and outlook.com account) to easy switch between them fro there.

  • Volume & Back Button Bug Lumia 820

    Hi all,
I bought my wife a Nokia Lumia 820 about 2 months ago and up until now she's been extremely pleased and impressed with it. However yesterday she encountered a weird bug which we cannot fix.
Am not sure how she managed it, but the volume display now remains visible always at the top of the phone display and volume is set to 0 and cannot be changed. In addition the back arrow (bottom left) no longer works in any app as it now just tries to close the volume display in the header.
I see a number of people have reported issues with low volume but I could not find anyone else who has the same specific issue with the volume display always showing.
Steps taken to try and resolve this:
Rebooted phone (holding power and volume down)
Backed up the app data etc and did a factory reset
    Removed the battery and rebooted
Ensured that the phone had the latest updates
After the first reboot the display did seem to resolve itself until I then clicked on the volume controls on the side of the phone. This then caused the volume to go straight down to 0 and then the display stuck and had the same problem again.
Also on some of my attempts to reboot the phone, a white exclamation mark showed up after the reboot and the phone was frozen so only way to try and get past this again was to reboot again and again until it disappeared.
Something is obviously wrong but am not sure whether it's a software glitch or an issue wiht the handset.
Can someone help shed some light on this else I'm going to get a lot of earache from the wife soon?
    Thanks a lot, Matt

We have 3 Lumia 820 and one of the handsets behaved like you folks describing..
Did some resets, soft or hard, cant remember, but finally gave the handset to the shop and they sent in in for a reflash by Nokia.
Working without this issue after that and for about 4 weeks now so, reflash it...

  • Lumia 820 turns off by itself

    Hi everybody,
I've had my Lumia 820 for about 2 weeks. At the begining everything was fine, but recently I've had several problems with the device as I mentioned in the title. It turns itself off time to time. It doesn't matter if I'm using it or it's being charged. I called Nokia Customer Service about this issue, and they said I had to give the phone to the service to be repaired. But I heard that the new one also shuts down. I sent some feedback to Microsoft too, but no reply so far. I just want to know if it is about the software or hardware. Does anybody have an idea about this issue?
If the problem is about the hardware I'm sure I'm not gonna buy another Nokia phone in my life. If it's about the software, I hope Microsoft will release an update ASAP.
In my opinion, both Nokia and Microsoft had better find a solution about this issue immediately just before they lose their new enthusiastic customers. Soon it could be so late...
I just can wait for a couple of weeks, then I'm done with both....
By the way, I heard that Lumia 920 and HTC X both have the same problem. So I think it's about the Windows 8 OS.

    mgspan wrote:
I have the same issue with my (old) Nokia 3120c.   Customer service has tried to solve it a few times, with no success.  Just runarounds, like (1) it couldn't be, (2) try updating SW version (didn't help), (3) clean battery (didn't help).
What I have discovered is that (1) it is very dependent on location.  Never happens at my rural home, but often happens in big cities.  (2) If I put it in a Faraday cage (like a metal box) it never happens.  (3) It happens even if nobody touches or moves the phone.
At work it happens often.  I find that if I put it on a large metal plate, it stays on, but cannot receive calls.  But if I
put it about 1 cm above the metal plate, it stays on and is still able to receive calls.
Possible conclusion, at least for the Nokia 3120c, but probably for other Nokia phones too, at least in some cases:  it is seeing some sort of RF overload and shutting itself down because of this.
One other point...a different phone of the exact same model which I tested shows the same thing, but much less often.  That is, it is much less sensitive to the suspected overload.
Is it a software issue?  Hard to say.  It could be that the software sees the RF level too high and shuts down the phone as a protective measure.  OR, it could be that some hardware mechanism is operating that shuts down the phone without any software intervention.
I see that there are hundreds of posts with various phone models which complain about this issue, but I have not seen any reply by a Nokia employee.  Frustrating to say the least.
Your experience is very interesting. But I don't think my problem is the same. By the way despite all my feedbacks, no one from Nokia or Microsoft reply me... The most interesting thing is that, I think. I'm considering to change my phone if the problem goes on...

  • Nokia Lumia 820 issues after Lumia Black update...

Before updating to the Lumia Black update:
    1. Was able to connect the Nokia Lumia 820 to my home PC using Windows 8.1 and it was able to see the device and files on it as well as sync music from Windows Media Player to the device.
    2. Was able to connect to the Nokia Lumia 820 from one of my Office PCs using Windows 8.0 and was able to see the device and files on it.
As well as to manually install Windows Phone 8 applications or install the Windows Phone 8 applications via Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate from either PC.
After the Lumia Black update, Neither PC can see files on the Nokia Lumia 820 nor can any application send files to the Phone's Memory Card or Second Memory Card. (SD Class 10)
Very frustrated with the Lumia Black update. Lumia Amber worked just fine.
I haven't changed anything as far as I know on my Nokia Lumia 820 device to cause said issues nor have I abused the device in any way.
    PLEASE HELP!!!
    Thank you,
    BillNew
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Simply wanted to add 3 new audio tracks to the Music files via Windows Media Player but cannot even connect the device like it did less than 45 days ago when everything was working properly.
All my music files are on the SD Card because the file space needed is more than the 7.3 GB on the base memory for the unit. (Something like 8.1+ GB at the present time of 29.8 GB... which is the formatted size of the 32 GB SD Class 10 card.)
When the Nokia Lumia 820 is connected to my home Windows 8.1 computer, Windows knows about it but cannot finish the handshake to see the device and the 2 memory areas on the device.
Have to determine which programs that I have installed after the initialization that I want to restore.
The problem at the moment is that turning off the unit loses ALL Music Album Data but the songs are still there. This seems to have been caused by Lumia Black Update but not sure if that is true or not.
Have a lot of stuff to backup before resetting the device. Perhaps could upload everything to SkyDrive / OneDrive then restore the data after a full reset of the device.
I have all my cell phone contact data backed up but would like to backup all text messages too.
I have 2 custom applications that I have developed but are not yet setup using the Windows Phone 8 Development License as released products... that will be done soon.
Cannot backup the latest pictures on the phone... not many since the last backup but there are pictures that are not restorable that I would like to keep.
Would rather not have to do a complete reset but may have no choice.
    Thanks,

  • Lumia 820 frequent crashing Music

    Hi,
I have a new Lumia 820. I use Xbox MusicPass, which I must admit works terribly between my new WP8 and my old Win7/Zune setup (none of my music can sync) and the Win8 app interface is woeful. But that is an aside.
My real problem is that when I use bluetooth headsets, I am getting frequent crashes with the standard Music app. The phone is brand new (4 days old). Often it is just the Music app that freezes and crashes back to the home screen, but sometimes i need to soft reset.
    This is really a pain!

Have you tried to full reset phone it maybe the only option

  • NFC - Disconnecting problem on Lumia 820 and Lumia...

First, we have 2 Lumia 925 and 3 Lumia 820 all on Amber and latest updates. and having problems with connecting by tapping the phones with NFC tagged headsets which are:
    Nokia Essence BH-610
    Nokia Bh-221
    Nokia Purity Pro Bh-940
and also JBL Powerup and JBL Playup.................
Every time when tapping the above headsets or whatever with the Lumia phones mention above I have to retapp the the phone so they reconnect and bluettoth start to be activated.
This has been going on for a while now and it is frustrating to use NFC which is far better implemented on my 808 Pureview which never fails this easy task..to connect and stay connected...without the hazzle...mentioned..
There are also other audio and sound problems which have stopped our progress for going further with Lumia phones here and actually reconsider ...
The gasply Tunein reconnecting and restarting playing after pausing and not hearing incoming sms and phone when connected to a bluetooth enabled NFC headset (if not the headset is on the head (purity pro) or in the ear (BH-610) at the time the incoming sms or email arrives of course)
There are more examples and I can clearly see in this forum that Microsoft and Nokia dont have it all figured out considering there are a lot threads about sound, volume and that kind of problem related things.
And this thing about not being able to have different audio levels for music, calls or whatever...come on...gosh.
    Solution?

Same problem on Lumia 620, connecting by tapping to NFC-enabled headset like Nokia Essence BH-610.....disconnects almost directly and then tap again, connecting and firmly connected after that.
Well, also worth mention not to be ok is that when disconnecting the headset by tapping the phone is that bluetooth doesnt switch of automatically. "On real" smart phones like Nokia 701, 700 and 808 Pureview bluetooth then disconnect.
Time consuming all this.....not to mention all the hazzle when on the run...
An example the other day after listening to Tunein radio, coming to a meeting and pushing pause and disconnectyed the3 headset.....a minute after that the Yunein-radio starting to play loud and clear through the phones loudspeaker....emabarrasing to say the least.
Not reliable at all....lives on it´s own terms, not mine....

  • Lumia 820 battery drain after "Black" update

    Hi all,
Yesterday I finally received the black update on my NL820. After applying the update successfully I charged the phone to %100. Before I went to bed I had:
    Battery at %94
    Wifi - Off
    Data services - Off
    Location services - Off
    Bluetooth - Off
    Battery Saver - On
This morning I wake up and it is unusually bright outside - the phone powered off, the alarm didn't go off and I overslept for work. I haven't touched any other settings after the update. Everything is the way I used it before. What is it that could drain a battery in the space of 8 hours from almost full to power off? I've had this happen on the same phone twice prior to the upgrade as well but then I thought I've forgot data services on or something. This time I'm sure everything was off.
    Please advise.
    Martin

I have been using Lumia 820 since 1 year and have never faced any issues. But after the recent "black" update... my mobile battery drains out within few hours after i charge it 100%. I have to charge it 3-4 times in a day ..
    1. I dont have any GPRS connection.
    2. I use wifi at home (only evenings). The rest of the day.. I use it only for calls and texts.
    3. I have tried hard reset, but that dint help.
    4. After hard reset, I dint update my mobile software.
I charge it till 11pm and when I wake up at 5 am .. I see the mobile is switched off and I cant depend on the alarm to wake me up . That makes me so nervous.
Please bring out some solution to this problem. It is so irritating to charge the mobile for so many times in day.
